The contractor never responded to phone calls or e-mails from me. Never met the company and I'm glad I didn't.

John came right away with a written estimate, which I apprciated. Other services didn't seem as well prepeared. Had to change schedule and that cause some confusion, but once they were there, the job was done quickly and completely. Workers completely cleaned up area. I would use them again.

I made a call to John (I think that was his name) and he called me back the next day. That day, he came to my house with an estimate. He was very polite, professional, and described in detail the work that needed to be done. He actually came down on the price when I received another estimate. He did the job 3 days later. A++++. Wonderful!!!

They were fantastic. They were timely and they were the best priced. The men were polite and friendly and they listened to all my instructions. They did exactly what I asked and I would certainly have them back.

I called two highly rated Angie's listed tree companies that served Essex County in New Jersey. The first company discovered the job was located in Newark, NJ, then declined the work. However, Friendly's came out the same day I called to give an estimate. They were already working in the area and could schedule my job for the next day. Since the pricing was consistent with similar work as described in other Angie's List reviews, I accepted the estimate and scheduled the work to start the next day. They promptly came out, did the described work and cleaned up afterwards. I am so pleased...it looks like a new place.

The representative who came to the house was pleasant and professional and the estimate was done on a timely basis. I didn't use their services because the price was more than two times what I actually paid for the job by another highly rated Angies List tree service.

Great. Estimator came right away, clearly very knowledgeable about business, made careful and specific recommendations. Price seemed very good. Staff came on time, pleasant, obviously competent. Work done quickly and well, good cleanup. Can't recommend more strongly.

I was amazed that I called in the morning, got a call back within 10 minutes, and John came out for an estimate two hours later. It was not an emergency or anything, and their promptness stunned me. They were more expensive than the other estimate that we received, but I felt significantly more confident in John's assessment of the tree than the other company. I left when they were only midway through the work, and when I came back, I was impressed that I could barely even find a twig on the ground, let alone the huge branches they had cut down.

Friendly Tree Service is one of those companies that you hear about giving great service, but seems to good to be true. We had FTS give us a quote for the removal of a 40ft Spruce in our front yard. When I called, I was given far more options for meetings than I could count. I choose an early morning meeting. I met up with John and we went over the work. He returned to his vehicle and a few minutes later I was holding a printed quote for the work. I was impressed (being a technology guy) that I was handed a printed quote and not something similar to the scribble I had been getting from every other company for all the other types of work we were having done. This was top line professional. A few days later I called and scheduled the work date. Simple easy. On the date of the services, my wife was home until mid-day, but FTS had not arrived yet. She called me to confirm that we had the correct date, we did. She left for work shortly after. I arrived home 3 hours later, and sure enough the tree was gone! I was shocked. You would have never have known there was a tree there, unless you looked at the ground. My neighbor asked me for their number, exclaiming that he has not witnessed such efficient precision executed work like FTS in a very long time. It just confirmed why I decided to go with FTS. We still have some more trimming to do around the property and will be bringing FTS back in the spring when we begin our spring cleanup.

Excellent job. Took a few hours to cut the tree down; the stump/roots grinding took place a few days later. The only issue was they brought their heavy grinding equipment for the branches and leaves onto the lawn near the side of the house, which caused tire depressions in the soft ground that lasted until the following year - but no permanent damage and the grass filled in.

Excellent job. Took an afternoon (3-4 hours) to complete. Only one issue - they forgot to remove a set of debris under the blue spruce in the far backyard. I did it myself. Also, they are very reasonable with the fees. You can negotiate and bargain with them, and they'll work to reduce the quoted price somewhat. I would definitely use them again - in fact, I might use them later in 2012 to prune a few more branches on some of the trees previously done, plus a some more trees in the very back of the yard that have not been worked on yet.

They were very thorough. They came on time. The price was good. Their quality of work supersedes anyone’s work. I would use them in the future.

JL remembered cutting trees down on several years ago (which I had forgotten). Signed contract "on-the-spot". Work done three days later. ALL staff was EXTREMELY A+++!!!!

The supervisor was nice and seemed to do a good job, however, one of his workers who was not directly supervised not only cut branches away from the house (as indicated on the bid) he cut huge holes in the tree off our back patio that have still not filled in 2 years later. Our formerly beautiful, lush Hemlock is bald on one side up to about 6 feet. The supervisor felt bad, but couldn't do much about it, I complained to one of the owners of the company and he basically said "if you don't have a picture from before the trimming, there is nothing we can do." He wasn't prepared to do anything to make the customer happy. He said he would have someone else follow up, but never did. I would never use this company again. Update -- the hemlocks that were improperly trimmed will need to be replaced, there is no way of fixing their appearance. It will cost 2000 to replace our privacy screen. Too big a price to pay for an hourly wage worker who was improperly trained, instructed, and supervised.
