However Cabinets Direct would not do the measurement because we were eliminating soffits and said we had to open them first to be sure they were empty . We were not ready to open holes in the soffits at that time so wanted until April .
The measurement was done on April 3rd. The designer had previously recommended Wolf Classic which we found did not have good reviews so I called the designer on April 4th & left a voice mail asking to talk about the cabinet selection . He never returned the call.
On April 9th we brought our own measurements to another company and had a beautiful design done free of charge on the spot with a well -reviewed cabinet brand.
On April 15th I got a call from the guy who did the measurement for Cabinets Direct asking me to re-measure
one wall which I did. The same day the Cabinets Direct designer called me saying Wolf Classic would not work and he had to use Wolf Designer because I needed a custom cabinet . I told him that was fine because we did not want the Classic and reminded him of my voice mail and the call he never returned. Having watched how quickly the other company did their design I also asked why this design was taking so long to which he replied- ?well I?m doing it now?.
On April 16th he emailed me the design. Without explanation he priced it with Decora cabinets which were never even mentioned or discussed in any way. Worse yet he put a cabinet in an area that would block the swing of a door and he left wasted space in another area. I emailed him telling him not to bother fixing it as we were going with another company. I received no reply or apology.
Bottom line: slow service, bad communication , poor measurement , unusable design.
I am not mentioning the designer?s name as he was a nice enough guy and it?s not my intention to create trouble for him. But I got the impression we were low priority and little attention was paid on our project . It was a complete waste of time and money. We felt scammed by being naïve enough to pay $175 ?professional design? and ?precise measurement ? sold through Angie?s List. Both Angie?s List and Cabinets Direct should be ashamed for selling a service that others do for free.
4-28-15 based on apology, refund and promise to revise the offer from the owner Dave I have upgraded the review to a "C"
"We always strive to completely satisfy every customer, however, in rare instances, mistakes do happen. Design Selection: All design selections are done in our showrooms because there are over 4,000 options, including many door styles, finishes, molding selections, species of wood, etc. It is impossible to show all of this in a consumer’s home, so all of our initial designs and ideas are discussed in the showroom. Soffits: In homes where a home owner would like to remove soffits, we need to know if all soffits can be removed, so we can create an accurate design. The cabinets may not fit if you do not know for sure if the soffits can be taken down. Additionally, a design may have to be completely redone if soffits cannot be removed. WOLF Classic: WOLF Classic is a quality product made in the USA. WOLF Classic offers great value versus all of the less expensive imports. Here are positive reviews to read about WOLF: http://www.wolfhomeproducts.com/about-wolf/, http://frazzledgrace.com/2013/03/20/kitchen-overhaul-onto-the-cabinets/, http://urbancharmathome.com/2013/05/23/, http://jax-and-jewels.blogspot.com/2014/03/kitchen-renovation-final-cost.html. In conclusion, because this customer was not completely satisfied, and we want to make every customer happy, we gave him a full refund."
Rick Kook of Cabinets Direct did a great job of working with us to redesign the kitchen including the cabinets, trim work and lighting. I know that we cleaned out some ?junk? from our former kitchen but it appears that we have all the cabinet space we need and the detailed design Rick drew up fit together perfectly. Additionally, Rick helped process the successful replacement from the manufacturer of several blemished cabinet doors. We also need to complement the installation contractor, Miro Hegedus and his people as well as Sebastian Baczkowski, the plumbing contractor. Once the old kitchen was gutted, there were several challenges that needed to be met including uneven ceiling joists, pieced out vertical studs, unsupported heating pipes and non-standard electrical installations. Miro and his crew did an excellent job correcting these problems as well as expertly installing the flooring, cabinets, lighting and electrical items. Miro and Sebastian performed very professional work and listened to our concerns and suggestions throughout the course of the project. In spite of some bad weather, there was very little ?down time? and their portion of the project proceeded smoothly and was finished well within expectations. The installation contractor is to be commended for spending time to assure that the cabinets and particularly the crown mouldings were properly installed and the plumbing contractor spent extra time rearranging the gas supply piping to coordinate with the oven/range design requirements. We selected marble countertops, ?glass-style? tile for the backsplash and stainless steel appliances. We are now awaiting the delivery of a ?pub-style? table and chairs to finish off the project. We love the layout and all of our friends and family are very impressed with our new kitchen. We are particularly happy with how the design, cabinets, appliances, flooring and expanded dining room opening have all come together to make for a very successful project.
"Dear [Member Info Removed], Thank you so much for taking the time to write this very detailed, wonderful review! We really appreciate it. We are thrilled that you were happy with Rick and Miro’s work. It is so great to hear that you were, "particularly happy with how the design, cabinets, appliances, flooring and expanded dining room opening have all come together to make for a very successful project.""
So actual execution was very good. The countertop looks great and leadtime was fine. But they were not helpful with logistics.
The price was OK, but HD would have been significantly cheaper if I had liked their colors. This was a relatively small countertop and the nice thing is that some fabricators would not sell small countertops because they would have to buy a large slab and then be stuck with the rest. But with Cabinets Direct it was no problem. So that was really good.

Our experience working with Mike was good - until there was a problem, and there were problems. When I emailed Mike to tell him of the issues, and send him pictures of the damage, he responded with a 3-4 week delay before we got our replacement cabinet. How can that be? Mike told us it would only take 2-3 days with expedited service. Turns out Mike didn't want to pay for the expedited service so we had to wait 3-4 weeks. Needless to say, I was not happy. Then Mike refused to answer my phone calls (and there were several) nor would he respond to my emails requesting information. It's as if he dropped off the face of the earth for 4 weeks, which I know he didn't because I had my contractor call him to see if he would pick up the phone, and Mike, in fact, did pick up the phone so I know he wasn't on vacation or out of the office like the person told me he was when I called only a few minutes earlier.
During the sales cycle, and before Mike got his money, Mike said all the things we wanted to hear. Ultracraft is a great company, their customer service is above average, the quality is top notch, and they address all cabinet issues (defects) within a few days. I brought my contractor with me the day we finalized the kitchen layout, dimensions, etc. just to make sure we were all on the same page for delivery, sizing, etc. My contractor asked Mike at least 5 times, "if we have a problem with any of the cabinets, how long will it take to get a replacement?". Each time, Mike insisted it would only be 2-3 days to get the problem resolved. Big lie. Well, we had a problem with one of our cabinets and it took almost 4 weeks before we got the new cabinet. As I told you above, my contractor spoke with Mike, and got him to admit that it would take 3-4 weeks to get the replacement. My contractor was extremely annoyed, as I was too, because he couldn't finish the job which included getting the town final inspections and be paid for the completed job. Mike didn't seem to care that there were problems, after all, he already received payment for his part of the job which was the cabinets.
We had other issues too. Ultracraft cabinets are frameless. (this is a good thing). That means, when you have under the cabinet lights, like we do, you can see the lights, unless you put a molding/trim on the bottom of each cabinet. Mike was well aware we were doing under the cabinet lighting as I mentioned above, my contractor and myself reviewed the entire plan with Mike before finalizing the cabinet order. Never once did he recommend purchasing Molding to hide the lights. Well, I found out the hard way that I needed molding after the cabinets were in. As a supposed cabinet design expert, I would expect Mike would have known molding was needed and recommended we purchase it. Nope. No recommendation. No mention of it at all. I wound up buying the molding from another Ultracraft dealer.
The last issue, which really infuriates me, is again, Mike is the cabinet design expert. He built the dimensions of my kitchen, reviewed them with me a few times before finalizing the design. I was concerned that the space he was allotting for the refrigerator was only 34 inches. I questioned him a few times asking if a 33 inch refrigerator was a standard size and he insisted it is. Well, 33 inches is not a standard size. 35/36 is a standard size refrigerator. Yes, you can get a 33 inch refrigerator, however, they are smaller and more expensive. One would think 2-3 inches isn't much until you don't have them.
I selected Cabinets Direct USA because of the reviews on Angie's List, and because they sold Ultracraft at a fair price. Cabinets Direct USA may be a good company but be very careful of who you work with. Mike Milazzo works from the Orange, NJ store. Buyer beware.
"Dear [member name removed], Our goal at Cabinets Direct USA is to provide the absolute best and most professional service to our clients. After reading this disheartening review, we evaluated the issues that you had mentioned and hope that this note will help to add clarity to these issues. 1- In your review, you stated- “Mike responded with a 3-4 week delay before we got our replacement cabinet. How can that be? Mike told us it would only take 2-3 days with expedited service. Turns out Mike didn't want to pay for the expedited service so we had to wait 3-4 weeks.” Cabinets Direct USA’s Response- On June 6, 2014, you signed the Cabinets Direct USA contract that states, “In the unusual event that a cabinet is damaged in transit, a replacement cabinet may take up to 3 weeks.” We are more than happy to provide you with our signed agreement. You notified Mike via email on August 7, 2014 that your cabinet that goes above the refrigerator was damaged. The next day, August 8, 2014, Mike sent the replacement cabinet order to the manufacturer as a "Replacement Part Order," which is the factory’s fastest way to get a replacement cabinet. The manufacturer sent Mike the Replacement Part Order Acknowledgment that same day, August 8, 2014. We would be happy to send you this acknowledgment. 2- In your review, you stated- “I was concerned that the space he was allotting for the refrigerator was only 34 inches. I questioned him a few times asking if a 33 inch refrigerator was a standard size and he insisted it is. Well, 33 inches is not a standard size. 35/36 is a standard size refrigerator.” Cabinets Direct USA’s Response- Your contractor prepared a measurement sheet that showed a 33” refrigerator. You wrote in an email to Mike on May 24, 2014, “Would you please do a markup design with the info I have attached.” The information you attached was, in fact, the measurement sheet that your contractor prepared with the 33” refrigerator. Once Mike created the final drawing, you signed off on the 33” refrigerator being part of your kitchen layout. We would be happy to provide you with this information. As previously stated, our goal is to provide the most professional service to our clients. It is really unfortunate that you feel that there were problems. However, it seems as if there was a misunderstanding, as outlined above. Please take the chance to review this reply. We hope that you will re-evaluate your thoughts towards Cabinets Direct USA, and we also hope that you are enjoying your beautiful new kitchen!"

"[member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to review us! We hope you are enjoying your new cabinets from Cabinets Direct USA!"
The end result was excellent. We chose a contractor during this process and once the cabinets were delivered he started work within a few days. The process to fit the kitchen and have the granite measured up and fitted and all of the finishing actually took a total of 3 and 1/2 weeks. Dos...Listen to Kathy and/or the consultant team, they really know their stuff and they will accommodate you. Kathy never pressured me to sign anything at anytime, I never got phone calls on whether I made a decision yet. I always felt she wanted me to end up with exactly what I wanted, even if she didn't get the deal. I think that's why we picked them because of her great attitude.
Dos...Obviously pick the contractor carefully. I did have multiple quotes and also requested a quote from the guy who measured us up for Cabinets Direct. I did some checking on the web, and he had good credentials and was the most competitive. Therefore I picked his company and I could not have found a harder working, professional team. I will be separately recommending them on Angie's List. Dos....prepare yourself that there may be an issue or two during this process, but when you have an issue these guys will sort it out for you.
"[member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review! We are delighted that your experience with Cabinets Direct USA "couldn't have gone any better" and that our "responsiveness was first class." We are also so happy that the "end product was exactly what" you "envisioned." This is what we always strive for. Enjoy your newly renovated kitchen!"
"We are very happy this customer likes her cabinets. Sometimes trying to coordinate times for a template can be challenging due to customer's very busy work schedules. We always strive to do our best. The installers we use are fully licensed, highly skilled and very professional. They always make sure all cabinets are plumb and level, ensuring all the doors and drawers function properly, the miters on moldings are perfectly aligned, guaranteeing a beautiful look, all nail holes are filled and all doors and drawers are fully adjusted and all knobs and pulls are installed properly."
