Description of Work: My A/C unit was leaking. The Arctic Air technician fixed the leak, tested the unit, and changed the air filter.

Description of Work: I was looking to replace 2 furnaces and 2 central air systems. The heating systems then in place were a 100,000 BTU furnace for the lower level and a 75,000 BTU furnace for the upper level. I had many company's come over for estimates and they all agreed that the size of both systems were just about correct given the size of the house, unless I went to High Efficciency, then I could use slightly smaller units. Artic Air recommended a 70K BTU for both up and down systems. When I questioned the large decrease in output they indicated these were Hi Efficiency Units. I felt even if I went with a 95% efficiency it still would have only produced mid 60K BTUs as oppossed to the 80K BTUs the original system produced. The feeling that I got when they were making such a sigfificant reduction in size was they had excess inventory in that particular size unit and were trying to sell me on what they had in stock, rather than what I actually needed. I also noticed their price was substantially higher than other company's doing the same work. I lost trust in the company after that and used another supplier.

Description of Work: Converted from oil heat and hot water to natural gas for both. Installed new furnace and hot water heater. They faced several challenges in the logistics of the house - where to place exhausts but were able to work with me and accomplish the best result. As with all major projects there are some challenges and difficulties but they were able to resolve any problems to our satisfaction.

Description of Work: We had our heating system replaced from a failing boiler/radiant heat system to 95% efficient forced hot air. They removed the boiler and piping from our utility room, removed the air handler in the attic that was used with the central air system. They replaced it all with a new furnace/air handler/coil/humidifier in the utility room as well as adding a new return and three new ducts to two existing bathrooms and a home office. This included re-ducting the existing main duct works from the old air handler in the attic to the new unit in the utility room as well as moving the AC lines to the new coil.

Description of Work: BACKGROUND: We belong to a HomeOwner's Warranty group where you pay a yearly premium and all appliances are covered for the year for any problems. So on June 12 we noticd that the downstairs ac unit was not working. We finally got the assigned/requested repair company to commit to either VERY late friday or Saturday(6-19) for the repair. They never showed and never called. When we finaly did reach them the guy lied and insisted that he never committed to those days but that maybe, just maybe they'd try and come out then. We made another apointment for the coming week, and again they never showed, We called the many numbers that they had and either got cut off ( with never a call back) or told someone would get back to us.. they never did. The next week they missed another appointment. AND no communication. Fed up I called they home warranty and told them what had been going on. They gentleman listened paitiently and said that he'd get them to call us. Miracle of miracles the place called us and made an appointment for Friday July 2, between 1 and 3. Friday 2:30 I get a calll from their "office" that they guys are running late but would be there in 30 or 45 minutes. Fine I said al long as they come. By 4pm no call I called their office to see what is going on again!! The woman said they're coming from the island, and there is a lot of traffic. By 6PM they are still not here. So the guy calls this time he's on his way but seeing how he hasn't eaten all day they are going to stop first and get something on they way. Fine, how long can a coke and a slice take. 2 hours later the bell rings, it is now 8:05PM, the guy goes downstairs and in under 5 minutes is telling me to check the ducts for cold air. He's done!!!! He does come back to let me know that they'll be mailing me a service contract for regular repairs. By time my wife returns from a late errand, it is obvious that the repair is not done the ac is still not working. We call the place and the woman asks that WE call back after 10AM Saturday. At 10:30 I call and the line is uninteligible. Again I get cut off. Again they don't make any effort to call us. So I call again and I have to leave a message or their mailbox is full(another trick of this unnamed group). Fed up I call they warrantyuts me on hold for 25 minutes. The young lady gets back on the phone and tells me how sorry she is for the long hold, then I get cut off! I call the warranty place back and get this kid that repeatedly tells me that there is nothing he can do. Now I am boiling, the original gentleman made me feel that someone at the group actually cared to follow through, now this kid is reading the script to me and was incapable to think outside the tiny little box where he is so comfortable. I ask for supervisor, sonny runs interference. Back on hold, I go then sonny gets back with a counter offer, the group will put out a call for any repair group they have and hope someone will get back to us. Not happy to leave it at that, sonny has to get his oar in by reminding me that it's a holiday weekend and probably no one will be able to get to us untilTuesday or Wednesday. By the way, this area is slated to reach 100'F Sunday through Thursday. Great, make the call I said knowing full well by this time that the quality of repairman that this group seems to attract will never get back to me. ANGIE"S LIST TO THE RESCUE: I had already began looking into Angie's List for recommendations and found ARCTIC AIR which is very near us. I called them and the woman at their end said someone would be out to us very soon. In under an hour, Chris came and explained to my wife all the mistakes that the other guy including an explanation for the burning smell I detected at 1030PM Friday that caused us to shut down right then. the wrong capacitor. Also several loose wires to round out the picture. In an hour Chris had righted all the sins of the other guy, our AC functioning again, and Chris was on his way. Thank you Arctic Air. We were looking at a week of 100'F daytime temps and I work the overnight shift and need to sleep then. I didn't think we had much hope for any help til at least Monday or Tuesday. Arctic Air was quicker than prompt on a holoiday weekend when most places leave their answering machines or services handle emergencies from existing clients.''' We were new to Arctic Air but still got quick service.

Description of Work: Contacted company to do winter service to two zone heating system as well as to clean and service Skuttle steam humidifer.

Description of Work: What I thought was just a freon replacement ended up being a little bigger job. He tested the system for a leak, he found that there was a leak and traced it. Repaired it. Clean out the system as far as air and moisture from the line. Filled it with freon and tested system out. This would be the short version but this is what he did.
