Pillar to Post - Northern Virginia

RUN AWAY. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. MOST UNPROFESSIONAL INTERACTION I'VE HAD WITH A BUSINESS. My realtor initially made an appointment with Pillar to Post (specifically Kevin F. Dougherty). I never confirmed this appointment. I attempted to call Kevin several times for a few days to determine whether or not he would go on the roof during inspection. I was finally able to reach him Thursday afternoon and he informed me that he does not go on the roof. This was an important point for me and I decided to go with another home inspector who does go on the roof, so I respectfully informed him that I would be going with someone else. This was a late cancellation as the inspection was the following day, but I had been COMPLETELY UNABLE to reach Kevin for several days prior to this. He sends me an email stating: "I understand. But will tell you that canceling at 5pm the day before is a rookie move and costs my company money because you took an available slot at 1:22 pm on May 29th. Hope the home collapses under its own weight." See images for the email proof. This is incredibly unprofessional and I stated that I will be posting a review of his company. He responds as follows: "do what you want. Your cancellation at that last minute is about unprofessional as they come. Evidently you don't run a small business." Apparently Kevin believes that cancelling an appointment (which was never confirmed in the first place) is "more unprofessional" than wishing that my home would collapse under its own weight. His words were despicable and completely unbecoming of a small business. Evidently, Kevin does not know how to run a small business. Please do not ever support this company, especially Kevin F. Dougherty.

It was a pleasure working with Kevin Dougherty and his team. It was super easy to get a quote and schedule a session with the support staff and not going to voicemail like other folks. Kevin even arrived a smidgen early and was ready to start right away. He was affable, knowledgeable, patient and thorough. I was amazed with his level of attention to detail. At one point he grabbed the outside balcony railing and shook with all his might - terrified me until he said, "You want to make sure it's bolted well right?" I laughed, and he did it a second time. Very impressed. He even went the extra mile when there was a super stubborn screw in the way from his prying eyes. Totally recommend Kevin!!!

Kevin came early so he could inspect the exterior of the home until my realtor and I arrived. He did not rush through any aspect of the inspection and was very thorough. He went the extra mile getting a well-painted-over crawl space access door open. Kevin had the report back to us the same evening of the inspection. The report included detailed comments and recommendations, as well as pictures. We were able to use this report in our home inspection addendum with the seller of the home. I worked with Kevin based on a recommendation from a friend and was so impressed by his work, his professionalism, and his friendliness that I highly recommend his services to others. My realtor was also very impressed and plans to recommend Kevin to her other clients. Further, with the package that I purchased, Kevin's advise is available to a us for a year after the inspection.

Kevin Dougherty from Pillar and Post (McLean, VA) did an outstanding job with the inspection of my prospective home in Alexandria, Northern Virginia!! Every corner, cabinet and crevice was carefully and completely examined. He welcomed my participation and questions and ensured that I was familiar and comfortable with the operations of the home (e.g. gas, electric, sump pump, etc.) His approach was very thorough and methodical – and Kevin came equipped with all of the items necessary to ensure that every aspect of the home was fully examined both inside and out (e.g. ladder, flashlight, tape measure, gas fireplace key, etc.) The resulting report was 50 detailed pages documenting the current room by room condition of the home and included color photos of all items needing attention. So many of the items he noticed I would have never identified. Kevin also provided insight into items that while currently functional, that I would need to watch/budget for. Kevin’s report was hugely valuable in working with the seller to negotiate what they would fix prior to closing. The remaining items have been put on my to-do list. I would highly and without reservation recommend Kevin Dougherty and Pillar to Post for anyone seeking a very thorough home inspection. Such a good investment prior to purchasing a home and Kevin was so flexible in accommodating my Sunday scheduling needs! What a nice guy too, who really knows his business!

Kevin did an excellent job. He was extremely thorough and professional. He welcomed our participation and was very knowledgable and professional. The home is large and the inspection took several hours. He never made us feel rushed and took his time to ensure nothing was overlooked.
