Jim Ivy Contracting

My old boiler was failing and a friend gave me Jim's number. He and his crew, including a very experienced boiler installer, came over and spent a good amount of time examining my setup and explaining the options. He emailed me a written estimate, gave me information about the replacement boiler (a Utica model), was good about answering my nervous questions, and emailed a new estimate when I rescheduled the job. I picked him because he'd done good work for my friend, and was more responsive and a better communicator than the other contractors I spoke to. The work took one whole day. Jim and the three other guys in his crew disconnected and hauled away the old boiler, brought in the new one, put in new water and gas piping, wiring, and a thermostat, and cleaned up some old wiring. They also put in a couple shutoff valves that are supposed allow much easier replacement of the circulator if it ever fails. They were nice guys, patient with my questions, and cleaned up pretty well afterward. It's been warm so we haven't used the boiler much, but the radiators get hot like they should and the system seems to be working well. The boiler is quiet and overall a major improvement over the old one. I gather that Jim's specialty is carpentry but he does electrical and other work as well. I would strongly recommend him.
