John and his brother Lou did a phenomenal job. Made the house brighter and appear more modern. the project went very smoothly. The price quoted for the jobs was very reasonable. They did all the work themselves (no subbing out). Very professional workmanship and service. pleasure to deal with. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the results.
Description of Work: painted all oak trims and doors white for the entire house. painted 4 bed rooms and 3 baths. work took about 2 weeks.

Very late review but my wife and I were very happy with the work! We moved into a new townhouse in May of 2016. We had Sunlight Contracting come in beforehand to give us an estimate, which we thought was reasonable for all the painting that had to be done. John was very professional, upfront, and honest about the work. Very nice and easy to talk to. Taught us about different types of paint we could use, color matching, etc etc. We needed to have all the painting done within a small time frame before our move and they were very accommodating. We had them come back a few days before our move to paint large portions of the house. They were on time, quick, and thorough. Finished early and cleaned up after themselves as well. We are happy with the work and would definitely hire again!
Description of Work: Painted master bedroom, hallways, dining room, family room and entryway area.

We have hired John and Lou for two jobs and they did an excellent job. We have an older home--early 20th century--and the walls can be a problem. They show up on time, do a great job, and leave the place tidy. We've hired them to paint our bathroom, kitchen, and hallway so far. Will definitely hire them for all future wall paper removal/painting.

Very impressed with the quality work and final results. I did two contracts with them, first one was to paint first floor ceilings. I noticed some spots on living room ceiling, they gladly repainted it when they came in to work on the second floor. They are very punctual and great to work with, I will do business again.

John and Gus were excellent. Responded quickly and came out for an estimate promptly. Said they would begin at 8:30 in the morning on a Monday and they were there 8:20. They worked quietly and were exceptionally neat. The rooms look terrific. I am planning on hiring them again for more painting.
Description of Work: Painted a large master bedroom and master bath, ceilings , trim, walls plus an accent wall. They also spackled and sanded where needed.

John and Lou did work for us a year ago (wallpaper removal) and we asked them back to paint our kitchen. As before, they showed up on time and immediately started to work. (It really is a pleasure to have contractors arrive when they say they will be there.) They did an excellent job at spackling and painting, and they are reasonably priced. They are also very personable. We would not hesitate to have them do more painting for us.
Description of Work: We needed to have our kitchen walls, doors and trim prepped, primed and painted. We also needed a large section of the ceiling to be spackled.

John was prompt in getting in touch with us to set up an appointment to review the painting we needed to have done. john provided an estimate and competitive quote. He worked with us on scheduling to ensure it met our time frame. John and his team were professional, showed up on time each day of the job and worked. The job was well done and completed on time. John and his team cleaned up after themselves. You can count us as a satisfied customer and would hire them again should the opportunity arise.

John called me upon my inquiry. We were in need of repairs and painting prior to a wedding that was to occur in less than 6 weeks. John honestly stated he did not think they had time to fit in the job. However, after a few chats, he said they could do the complete job in time if they could parse the job over a few days. Since we wanted the job done before guests arrived, liked his price and liked John, we readily agreed. They got the job done sooner than expected and did an awesome job. He kept me informed of every detail as the job progressed. In total they were in our house for 4 partial days. We trusted John and left the key for him to do the job. The repairs were well done, the paint job neat and to expectations. All was neat and left in order before they left. We will absolutely be willing to hire the Sunlight group again. We highly recommend Sunlight Contracting.
Description of Work: Repaired walls, primed stained wood. repaired stair risers where carpet had been removed, painted 2 bedrooms, 2 closets and a hall. Painting included all trim, walls, and ceilings.

When we bought our home 32 years ago we were young and as first time home owners didn?t realize that if we left the garage unpainted with just the tape and one coat of spackle the builder used, eventually the sheet rock would brown and the tape would dry up and fall off. Lesson to new homeowners. ? I went to Angie?s List in search of someone who could repair the walls and then paint. Searching with ?repair sheetrock? as my key words I came across Sunlight Contracting and I had them come for an estimate. At that time, May 2015, I wasn?t sure if we were going to have the whole garage repaired and painted, or if we were going to hang a slatwall organization system which would go 7 feet up the wall leaving only 3 feet of wall and the ceiling to be repaired.? John from Sunlight was very nice. We talked about my old car and his memories of his parents having that model. He gave me a reasonable estimate and I told him I would get back to him. ? Then in February of 2016 I found Sunlight was running an Angie's List?special of 40 hours of labor for $1300. I called John and asked if that 40 hours could be applied to the project we had discussed last Spring. I told him that I saw the terms of the deal were 40 hours of painting, but wondered if he would be willing to make it 40 hours of painting and sheetrock repair. I informed him that we had installed the slatwall. He said ?Sure, no problem. We can certainly do that in 40 hours.? I asked if he?d like to come out again and review the project and he said no. So I bought the deal. ? Fast forward to May. We decided to wait until May to do the work to facilitate the drying times of both the spackle and the paint. After 3 partial days on the job, John informed me that he would be painting the next day. I looked at the repair work and saw some tape that was loose and some that had buckled. He also left the center support beam in need of several more coats of spackle. What spackle work he did was sub-standard. It was uneven and inadequately sanded.?When I said that there was more work to be done before he painted he said that was as good as he was going to get it. He told me that wall repair was not his specialty and that the deal I bought was for only painting, not repair work. This is the exact opposite of what he told me he would do on the phone. ? And then he went on to say it was only a garage and that no one was going to notice the quality of the work on the walls because they would be so impressed by the slatwall. And while that may be true, but it doesn?t mean I shouldn?t get the job we agreed on. After spending $5000 to have the slatwall, I didn?t want the walls and the ceiling to look like nothing was done but slap a coat of paint on it and I was willing to pay for it. He then went on to tell me to go find someone else to finish the job and he would then come back and paint it. ? I did find another contractor and he was great. He was appalled at the condition of the garage and the work that was done. He even had to redo things done improperly. He quoted me a price and I agreed. He did such a fine job of repairing the walls I paid to have him paint them too even though Sunlight said they would come back to paint. By that time I didn?t trust the quality of work Sunlight would do. On day one they brought their college age son to paint the trim and he did a rather poor job. I could have done a better job. ? I contacted John and said I wanted a portion of my money back. The second contractor said I should allow Sunlight $400 for the work they did and ask for the balance which would be $900. Knowing John would never go for that, I asked for half, $650. ? The response I got was a totally false recounting of what happened. Not only that, but he felt I really should give him more money for all the work he did that we didn?t agree to. I was shocked! He denied everything that he ever said. ? I feel I was a victim of bait and switch. I was told one thing to get me to buy the deal and was given another. I thought I could believe him. I took him at his word, and now he is denying?everything. ? I am so pleased with the job the second contractor did even though John said no one could repair the damages to meet my expectations. He implied I was unreasonable when in truth he is just incapable. ? My experience with Sunlight Contracting couldn?t be worse and no should consider doing business with them. Honesty is always the number one consideration and there is none here. ? ?

Here is the truth of what really happened . Originally in early May 2015, Mrs [Member Name Removed] saw on of my specials through Angie's List for 16hrs of painting. Mrs [Member Name Removed] called me with questions & I answered them. Then she asked me to come out & take a look at what she needed. She felt it would be much more than 16hrs. I came out a few days later & I called you with prices for what you wanted done & told you that I could do the sheetrock repair by filling the holes & the painting. I told her that I could not re-tape & spackle the entire area because that's not what I do. NONE of my ads suggest that. Taping & spackling is different than sheetrock &plaster repair.Which I do advertise. The estimate I gave you for what you asked for was just shy of $2200. I never heard from you, & i assume you didn't want the job done. Almost 8 mths later in early 2016 you saw an Angie's List Big Deal for 40hrs of paining. You called again with questions which again I gladly answered. You told me that you needed me to do MINOR spackling & a little taping repair, and some sheetrock repair. along with priming & painting. You asked me if the big deal would cover & I said yes. You purchased it & called a few days later. You were put into the schedule at your request for sometime in May when the weather was warmer. When I got there she showed me what she wanted to be done. I told you that the spackling & taping was not my specialty. The few spots that needed to be re-taped & spackled we did & did it well. We did alot of painting. We did excessive spackling, patching &sanding which was not part of the Big Deal, but I did my best to accommodate your wishes. You pointed out a few spots that you were not happy with & I explaiined the way the sheetrock was installed from the builder it would be near to impossible to make it perfect, you agreed & told me you worked for [Removed Personal Info] & they never do good work in the garages. & nothing is never perfect. You then decided that you would get estimates from a professional sheet rocker &taper & then you would call me back about painting. Before I left, you told me you would call back within the hour to let me know if you wanted us to continue with the priming & painting. That's were we left off. Then i received 2 THREATENING emails from Mrs. [Member Name Removed] saying she would post a scathing review ifI didn't give her money back, or do additional work. From day 1 I believe she was looking for additional work for free! And was trying to use a bad Angie's List review to try to threaten me to receive extra work. i have all the threatening emails saved. We always go above & beyond to please our customer's needs, but some people cannot be pleased !!! Respectfully John J. Maranca

We have used Sunlight Contracting in the past, and were again very pleased with their service. Jon and Lou are courteous, punctual and did an excellent job painting (guest bedroom, bathroom, ceiling, trim, and caulk). They responded to our request the same day, and after the job, cleaned up as though they were never there. I have no concerns trusting them in our home when we aren't there to do a quality job. We recommend them and hope to use them again in the future ourselves!

This was a prepaid deal for interior painting services. The deal didn't specify that the work couldn't be completed soon, but when I contacted the company they made me feel like I was being unreasonable for expecting that the services would be completed soon (i.e. within a month of prepaying for the services). I don't believe it's reasonable to charge someone the final cost in advance of providing those services if you're not prepared/available to begin working right away. (It would be different if you were only paying a deposit on the work that is to begin in the near future.)
Description of Work: I had trouble connecting with the company to schedule the work. As soon as I was able to speak to them I found out they couldn't come to my house for several weeks. I told them that wouldn't work for me, and cancelled the service package.

Mr. Baha'i purchased a 16 hour big deal On November 11, 2015 from Angie's list for my company. The very next morning I responded through the business center of Angie's list asking for his contact information One day later he provided his information I called him the same day to give him a few dates none of the dates work for him he wanted it done immediately which is not possible we do great work and are honest reliable and hard-working therefore we are usually busy and a couple weeks waiting Time is not unreasonable I did nothing to make him feel uncomfortable I was nothing less than respectful and honest it's amazing how four months later he posted this review Respect fully John Maranca Sunlight Contracting

John and Lou arrived on time and were courteous and professional. They painted 2 bathrooms with3 colors, 2 coats of paint. Each bathroom has bead board 1/2 way up the walls and a 2nd color on the rest of the walls and white on the ceiling. I have used Sunlight Contracting before and received the same excellent work as I received in the past. I recommend them for any painting project you have.

They were puntual and very professional at all times. John and Lou had us Take pictures of whate we needed to paint and began to work as soin as they came in. They worked very neatly and precisely while painting. I will need additional work and I would call them again and recommend them. The price was reasonable and kept us abreast of any additional expenses we incurred due to our high ceilings. Thank you both.

It went very well. John and Lou came on time, covered all surfaces, filled in holes, but not the ones that I wanted to be kept for pictures so I didn't have to measure again to hang them. They worked quickly and carefully and did a beautiful job. I'm very happy with he work they did, and I love the colors we used. And the work was done two weeks before my deadline!

Work began on Monday, 8/17/2015. On that day, the painting of indoor moldings and door frames was done. On Tuesday, 8/18/2015 and Wednesday, 8/19/2015, the work was to have been glazing around the glass on the exterior side of 18 double-hung wood windows. As in the summary above, it was barely visible as to where any glazing was done. In many areas, it looks like no glazing was done. The remaining work, priming and painting over the glazing, was to have continued for a few more days but we had to pause it because an out-of-town family need came up. John Maranca, our principal contact with Sunlight, said he would have to check his calendar to see when the remaining work could be scheduled. After we returned a few days later, I called John to find out if he determined a continuation date. He called me the next morning and said that the first time that would be available would be the first week of November, to do 2-3 days work. He asked me to call him and let him know if that would work for us. That evening, I called back and left him voice mail to say that the first week of November was OK and I asked further if the work could be done in the first few days of that week. (I knew that my wife and I had a luncheon scheduled for Thursday, 11/5). John called back the next day and said that he would be here on 11/5. I called him back and left him a voice mail, saying that 11/5 would be OK. I didn?t say anything to John, but I made contact to cancel our going to the luncheon in order to be home and available when he would be here. On the evening of Wednesday, 11/4, I called and asked him what time he was planning to be here the next day, and he said that it would be between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. At around 9:30 that next morning, I called and asked him if he was still planning to come, and he said that he would not come because there was some rain. I asked why he didn?t call me to say that, and he gave several excuses like he didn?t have my number in his cell phone, he was on the road, and others. He added that if I wanted, I could get someone else to finish the work. He said that he would come the next day, Friday, 11/6. I asked what time he would come and he said between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. He didn?t come. After that, I?ve had absolutely no contact from him. On Friday, 11/6 and Saturday, 11/7, I called both his cell phone (which he said he preferred) as well as his office, a total of at least 6 times, reached his voice mail and had absolutely no return calls. In my final call, I told him if I didn?t hear from him in a half hour, I would be calling Angie?s List about the problem. I called Angie?s List and spoke with Marty Stone who suggested waiting for a response until Monday, 11/9 and if I had no response, call Angie?s List again and initiate a complaint and that they might be able to help resolve the problem. I had no response, so I called Angie?s List on Monday, 11/9. I?ve received two emails with progress reports from Mr. Stone, and now I am taking this approach of a formal complaint. My statements, to a large extent, can be substantiated with pictures, voice messages, and independent physical observation. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I contacted DAP Products, Inc., the manufacturer of the glazing product, DAP 33 Glazing, and they sent me a Technical Bulletin covering how and when the priming and painting should be done. First, John would have been using the wrong type of primer. The instructions specify using a high quality oil-based primer ONLY. He was going to use a water-based primer. Second, the manufacturer states that priming/painting must be done after the glazing has attained a ?firm set?, in ?as little as 7 days after application, but more likely 2-3 weeks after application?. Had we not had to defer completion, he would have done the priming/painting the next day. Third, the manufacturer also referred me to a link that shows a YouTube video of glazing work being performed. The appearance of our windows is nothing like what is in the video. There are now two unopened gallons of primer/paint that were to be used to complete the job. Obviously indicative that the work was not done.
Description of Work: Engagement called for: Painting indoor moldings and door frames. Done satisfactorily. Glazing exterior side of 18 double-hung windows. Barely determinable that anything was done. Priming and painting over all of the glazing. Not yet reached that point.

[Member name removed] purchase an Angie's list Big Deal for 40 hours of painting. Before the final purchase of this deal we got a call from [Member name removed] asking to come out to take a look at the job because he was unsure if the 40 hrs was enough time to get what he wanted done. On Father's Day at his request I went to look at the job. We discussed the fact that the 40hrs would cover the inside painting of the door frames,& the exterior sanding, scraping, & glazing of the windows. He asked for an estimate on the remaining work of the priming & painting of the windows. I told him I would get the estimate to him to. Which I did & he agreed on the work. We made the dates for the work for 8/17, 8/18 & 8/19. Which at that point the 40 hrs were completed, and the work that was left was the priming & painting. When we started on 8/17, I gave [Member name removed] a contract to sign for the additional work after the Angie's List Big deal work was completed At that time he said he was going to sign it when we come back to continue, which was suppose to be the next day as agreed. This is when [Member name removed], with NO notice decided with his wife to take a trip to Virginia. Even though this time frame was scheduled 5 weeks in advance. as we left the 5 days for his job on the work calendar. At this time in person it was explained to [Member name removed] we may not be able to get for a while because my calendar was full. [Member name removed] agreed to a new date to complete the work which was 11/5/15. In the meantime we never received the signed contract for the extra work , which was questioned & called on several times. And still signed contract was never received. I left a message that we would not be starting the job without the signed contract. Never heard from [Member name removed] As far as not returning phone calls, that's not true. we return ALL phone calls, text messages, & emails. [Member name removed] mentioned about us using the latex primer for the outside work.when in fact we used that primer ONLY for the inside & were planning to use oil primer over the window glazing as we always have.

Everything went great. John called the day before to confirm. Showed up on time. Did a professional job, cleaned up and everything they did was done to my satisfaction. The bathroom came out beautiful. I would use Sunlight again for any painting I would need done. Thanks guys for a job well done.
Description of Work: The provider painted my entire Full Bathroom and repaired/patched/painted numerous damaged areas to other walls in other rooms.

2 great guys (brothers). friendly and professional. out of our 3 estimates they were in the middle; our instincts picked them. we were right! they did not rush the job; 4 days to complete. arrived on time; did a full day's work. VERY clean. meticulous work. they also spackle/sand where needed and even some places i didn't think they would, but they did. they moved the furniture to their convenience and put everything back; you wouldn't even know anything was moved. old-school kind of workers which is very rare in this big box day and age - this is a very good thing. Quick to reply to texts and phone calls. Highly recommended. Feel free to contact me for any other details if you're considering them. So glad we chose them!
Description of Work: primed/painted 2 bathrooms, 2 hallways, 2 bedrooms, 1 living room and 1 kitchen, as well as 2 storm doors and 5 interior doors; and all the ceilings of course.

I told John I was postponing the service as I have to go to California and won't be able to schedule. He was very friendly and prompt and they seemed to know what they were doing. I also think they were on another job at the time which may be why they didn't contact me at first, but after I got in touch with them everything was fine.
Description of Work: He was going to paint outside the house.
