Our contractor referred us to JR's Hardwood Floors to refinish the floors in our living and dining rooms. The owner asked me to text him pictures and room measurements then provided a quote via text. I decided to hire them based on the quote, however I asked him to meet us in person to go over everything prior to his crew starting the job. He didn't listen to our specific requests let alone communicate these requests to his crew. He didn't even bring stain samples so we could select the color we wanted. For example, I pointed out that we have built-in cabinetry in these rooms that are wood stained and I didn't want them damaged during sanding, especially because one of them included a curved shoe mold that I was worried would be expensive to replace. When the crew arrived the next day we asked about the stain colors. They sanded a small section of floor and pulled out half a dozen minwax cans and applied them in small squares for us to pick. We picked our color and they got to work. The next day I noticed they managed to hit all of the bases of the built ins with the sander and managed to splatter the new stain on them. They looked terrible. I spoke with the owner and he said they would take care of it. That night I discovered they decided to paint the curved shoe mold a solid dark brown paint since it was too damaged to fix correctly. They also pulled the preexisting stained quarter round off of the other built in areas and discarded it so they had to go out and buy replacement moldings and install them. However these were now stained to match the floor color and not the builtins they originally came from. I showed my contractor the things they did and he was so upset he immediately called the owner in front of me. Of course he didn't answer and my contractor had to leave a message. Once they completed the job, promising that they applied three coats of poly finish (all in one day) he asked me for the balance of the payment via paypal. He then started bugging me that he didn't get paid. I explained that I had email confirmation from paypal that the transaction was complete, as well as confirmation from my credit card that paypal had charged my account. He wanted me to pay him directly then try to fight paypal to get my money returned. I explained I lived up to my end of the transaction and paypal already has my money. Ten days later I hired a paint crew to paint the walls and built-in cabinet that they had screwed up. The painters arrived, removed their shoes and laid paper and cover tarps where needed. They did tape a few spots to the floor in order to keep the paper from shifting as they worked. When they were done and everything was cleaned up we noticed spots on the floor where the poly finish had come off. I texted him pictures and he basically said everyone should know better than to put painters tape on wood floors and I would have to buff and refinish the floor. I asked if that was the case why would professional painters do it? And frankly why have I been able to apply painters tape on plenty of other wood floors in the past myself without issue. I even reminded him that the painters did not apply tape to all the bad areas. So this guy made a mess of my living room and dining room and now thinks I am going to give him more money to come back and make a bigger mess? Not a chance. I will find a company with a better reputation and more professional approach.

This company came recommended to us. We are in the process of selling this house and wanted to have the hardwood floors redone. On the day of the job, the crew arrived late but seemed friendly enough. Before the job began, they asked how we would like to pay, and since they advertised on their truck that they take credit cards, we took that option. The worker said he would have to notify his boss, which was fine with us. Since the entire downstairs of the house was being done, I could only look in the doorway to check their progress. About an hour before the job was completed, I got a call from the owner, who requested that I provide a check instead of paying by credit card, explaining that his workers didn't have the apparatus needed to take the payment by credit, and he would have to come down to the house himself. When I told him that we preferred to pay by credit card, he then said he would charge me 7 percent more for doing so. I replied that this additional charge had never been mentioned and that it was ridiculous, since they advertise that they take cards. He insisted that he would charge me more, so I finally relented and said I would provide a check. He could have just taken my credit card info over the phone, but this was not an option. Several hours later, when the floors were dry enough to walk on, I entered the house to find that the workers had literally marked or damaged all the baseboards and moldings. They had also removed the doorstop behind the front door (it was nowhere to be found) and as a result, they had slammed the door into the wall, making a hole in the wall where the doorknob struck it. The floor itself seemed adequately done, but it took three of us more than four hours to repair the damage done by the workers. We called JR's to discuss these problems, but they never even had the courtesy to call us back. This was a bad experience from beginning to end.
