Fences By Dente

He was apparently a very nice person when he came to give me the estimate. It was pricy, but since he seemed so nice a guy, I decided to give him the job. He did the job with apparently no problems. Then, about 2 years down the road, the fence started to become very unstable, the gate falling to the side. I called him and as soon as I said "there is some problem with the fence", he totally turned into a nasty rude person and directed me to call his office, which I did. They asked for a photo or video showing the damages which I sent- next he sent me an email saying a post was cracked and said that somebody must had hit it and therefore was not his fault. I said the video does not show any crack because there is no crack, and asked him to please come in person to check this out. - He did not answer- Since then I have called him several times and sent him emails, with no answer at all. This person is totally dishonest, shows himself to do the job as if he is this sweet nice guy, but in fact, he is very dishonest and becomes rude and makes up things like "the post is cracked" to avoid responsibility. When in fact, even if it had been cracked, that could had been his responsibility because it could had been due to poor material used. (BTW, I have the video showing the fence wavering in case anyone wants to see it, email me at nydpec@gmail.com) I would absolutely never hire or recommend this person to anyone-

I tried to hire Fences by Dente. They came highly recommended by a neighbor. I visited the location twice and spoke to a very helpful associate. I completed a form on the first visit and was told that I would get a call to schedule an estimate in a couple of days. After a week passed by, I called back to inquire about the estimate. The same associate answered the phone and she was very apologetic. She said someone would be calling by the next day. Four days later, on a Saturday afternoon in early August, the company president called and said he was in the neighborhood and asked if he could swing by in 10 minutes. Although it was a huge inconvenience, I was desperate and told him it was ok. What a huge mistake...the president of the company was arrogant and rude when he walked through the measure and estimate with my wife and I. He said that he would get back to us on Monday with a quote. We waited a week for the quote...I had to email him the next week and ask for the quote. By the time he had gotten back to me with the quote, my wife and I had done some additional research and had some additional questions about the project. When I sent the president an email requesting a conversation about the scope[e of the project, he dismissed me and said that he didn't want to work on this project anymore. Needless to say, it worked out for the best. I can find a more professional fence company that treats customers with respect.

Initially was not pleased with the responsiveness to a gate that wouldn't close properly. Called and left several messages with the receptionist that apparently never got to Gene Dente (owner of the company). As soon as Gene found out about my calls not being acted upon he immediately called my cell and apologized for the mix up, and that he would get a crew out to fix the gate. And true to his word his folks fixed the gate so that it closes correctly. Would definitely use this company again and would recommend to others. Gene Dente is good for his word, don't know how much better you can be than that, good company, good owner use them you won't be sorry.

OK -- here is the saga of my experience with Dente. I first filled out their email form sometime in late May to repair part of a fence damaged by Sandy. Two weeks pass, no response. Then I called and left a voice message. Another two weeks, no response. About a week later (sometime early in June) I called again and got an actual human being who took my information and told me she would "pass it on to one of our guys". No response, but then, another two weeks later, my cell rings around 6:00 at night. It's Gene himself, the president of the company: "Hi, I'm near your neighborhood, can I stop by and give you an estimate?" Not the way I prefer to do business, but I thought, what the heck, we need the estimate, okay. Gene did show up, chat with us and take measurements, and was personable enough. HIs last words were, "I'll call you tomorrow with an estimate." This was over two weeks ago and have not heard from him since. I have nothing good to say about how this company does business. It may be that we just had a small job, and that it wasn't worth his time, but any good business should at least return your calls on time and maintain good communication. Even though they did not perform any work (and who knows, if they had given me a quote, I may very well have paid it, knowing nothing about how much it costs to have a fence repaired) I would stay far away from Dente if you want prompt and professional service and communication.

My experience with them was very good. They were responsive. They were professional. They listened well. They built a quality fence.

They came out and gave me an estimate and they stuck to the estimate. They were not cheap, but they were fair. It was very close to what the insurance company was offering me for the fence. They did a beautiful job, better than I had expected. So I am very happy with them. They came on a very cold day, I don't know how they dug through the ground but they did. The thing that surprised me was just how nice the fence looked and they did some little things to make it look nice.
