I feel confident in Ryan and Sons’ knowledge and expertise in caring for my 250-year-old house. They have serviced my water softener, hot water heat, furnace, as well as performed other services that come up in an old house. Their communication is excellent, sending emails and calling so I know when to expect them. With a service plan on my water system, I get a discount on other services , too - you can’t beat that! Highly recommend!

From the initial proposal and questions with Kevin to the installation with Mike and Milt, the professionalism and knowledge sharing was remarkable. To have the owner, Kevin, involved was a key influence in decision, as was our neighbors high positive regard for Ryan & Co. The installation was efficient. Mike and Milt were so organized and kept things neat and clean. They paid attention to detail and fixed the ancillary to the main system where needed. High quality all around. The system is in and can’t wait to see how it works, especially through the tricky up and down temps of the fall season. Farewell to the 35 yr old system.

Customer since 2016. Technicians are great. Typically my experience has been 5 stars as I love(d) the responsiveness and that they send you a photo of the person showing up. Today, totally different story. I had a genuine concern and the woman on the phone for Service/Customer Support was incredibly combative. She refused to slow down and hear me out when I was actually saying the same thing she was. She really didn't care about the direction the call was taking and it was obvious she was standing firm on a useless argument. I'm no huge customer, but I am/was supporting a local business since 2016; today's encounter not only makes me hesitant to ever use them again, but moreso hesitant to endorse to neighbors and friends. Then again, it's Monday; maybe she's just having a bad day.

The worker came promptly at designated time. He asked what the problem was, he listened intently, inspected the area and diagnosed the problem quickly. He didn’t have the part he needed on the truck, so he went out and bought it right away. He replaced the part and explained everything he did and how the part stopped the leaking. Excellent service from a true professional. I would hire this company again in a second. 5 Stars!

Couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Had leaks in the bathroom going down into the ceiling of the kitchen from a bad contractor who remodeled the bathroom. Called Ryan & Company to come take a look and the owner Bill came to take a look later that day. Sent out his technician Brandon, who was at our house at 8 AM the next morning to do the repairs. After fixing the leaking shower, we decided he should check the toilet and sink as well to be safe. Sure enough they both had leaks as well, Brandon was able to fix all three leaks very quickly and even did some extra caulking to enhance the appearance. Both Bill & Brandon were very knowledgable, friendly, showed up on time and did a great job at a fair price. If you need plumbing work done in North Jersey, call Ryan & Company now.

This time the owner Bill Ryan showed up with his guy. Under Bill’s instructions, they carefully examined the issue and showed lots of patience to try out different repair strategies. Although the problem is not completely fixed yet, the condition has been improved significantly. Bill showed genuine courtesy and respect to our home and keep following up the situation after leaving. As they promised while making the appointment, the re-visit was free.

I was very impressed with the service I received. When scheduling the appointment everyone I dealt with was responsive and polite. I had called because our A/C wasn't working and they were able to schedule a technician to come service the unit the next day. The technician (Devin) was very nice and he explained the work he was doing. I had not had the A/C unit serviced for a while (shame on me) so there were several problems. He was able to address them and he also encourage me to get a service contract so we can have the system serviced annual. Overall I was very happy with the work that was done. Thanks!

1 hr 20 mins after appt time for initial visit, salesman called to tell me he was running a little late. I said something like, "A little? it's 1 hr 20 mins late." He asked if he could come over (it was already 6:20pm) and I said I couldn't accommodate that. I asked him to call me the next morning to reschedule and he said he would call first thing. Never heard back from him, so I figured he didn't want the job.

The technician came out and diagnosed the problem. He told us that the unit is very old and that the condenser was bad. The suggestion was to either replace the unit outside or change out the entire system. My air conditioner is a old system that is still using R22 Freon. The cost was substantial approximately 4K for the replacement unit outside or 8K for a whole new system. I decided to get a second opinion. Thankfully the second opinion paid off. It turned out that I did not need to replace the unit outside the problem was with a capacitor. Instead of paying 4-8K I paid about $250. I was very disappointed in Ryan & Company they did not diagnose the problem correctly and would not recommend them to anyone in the future.

Response from Ryan & Company
We have tried to reach you via phone and email to discuss your concerns with no response. We are sorry you had a bad experience with our company. We are a family owned and operated business serving the Morris County community for over 30 years and we strive to create the best working relationship that we can with our valued customers. As you mentioned in your review, your HVAC system is quite old. Our technician provided your wife a thorough assessment of that system, as well as the others in your home, one which was not mentioned when the appointment was initially scheduled, as you can see by the notes he included on his work order..."Inspected and tested 2nd floor and basement AC systems for cause of no cooling on the 2nd floor and poor cooling in the basement. The home has 3 systems total. Started with the 2nd floor system. Checked thermostat. Works normally and turns unit on. Did notice a noise from the return grill. Checked and found a large sheet of plexi glass that previous homeowner had installed as a means of preventing cold drafts coming down the return in the winter. However when the blower for 2nd floor comes on it sucks the plexiglass up and blocks off air flow. Removed this from the grill. Checked air handler in the attic. Air filter was clean. Blower works normally. Tested outdoor unit (middle unit of the 3). Found condensor fan running, but not compressor. Tested compressor and found compressor has failed. Due to the age of the unit it is not feasible to get a replacement compressor only. Recommended several options to the homeowner. The first option is to install a dry r22 condensing unit. This would be an entirely new outdoor condensing unit. This option would mean leaving the existing air handler in the attic in place. We would recharge the system with the original refrigerant of r22. This is the least expensive option. The second choice is to replace the entire system, including the air handler in the attic, and the outdoor condensing unit. This would convert the system over to the new refrigerant of r410a. However this is a much higher cost option as it is a much more labor intensive process and can take longer to get all the material and equipment to complete. However this option would eliminate future issues as all of the equipment would have a warranty. If the homeowners choose to go with option 1 of just replacing the outdoor unit, the indoor unit can be replaced at a later date if needed, and the unit can be adapted to run on the older r22 refrigerant. Inspected and tested the basement unit. Again all indoor equipment, filter, and thermostat are working normally. Checked outdoor unit. Found that the condensing unit was replaced at some point in the past. Checked the unit and found system was low on refrigerant. Recharged system with refrigerant to get system back up and running. Left unit working normally upon completion. As a courtesy, also checked the 1st floor system. All is working normally at this time." He spent over an hour and a half going over the system and making his assessments. We are sorry that he didn't just suggest replacing the capacitor at that time. He was focusing on the bigger picture rather than a quick fix.

When the technician got to my house, he quickly added freon to my unit and checked all of the grates to make sure the temperatures were coming out right. I asked him if there was any way for him to look at the air flow difference coming out of some grates in my living room and he quickly was able to find dampers in my duct work. He was able to increase air flow in rooms I had trouble with in the past without any problems. I really appreciate the effort that Brian put in to making my system run at its best. Would defiantly recommend Ryan and Company for any heating and air conditioning needs. I have nothing but great things to say about my experience.

It pains me to write this review because Wm. Ryan and Co has performed several projects in my house over the past 8 years. Prior to today he has always performed the job exactly as quoted and on time. Mr. Ryan has personally provided sensible plumbing advice and was someone I would have trusted with any plumbing project. If he had asked me to write a positive review for his company, I probably would have. Recently, however, we noticed things began to change. We had tried hiring Ryan and Company for a minor repair to the toilet and they never answered our call. We figured they were just a little busy. No problem. My wife and I decided to re-tile the bathroom floor and replace the vanity. Despite the missed call, we wanted to give the work to Ryan and Company. Mr. Ryan's son, Kevin, provided a fair estimate and explained the project. We have an old toilet from 1926 where the tank hangs on the wall. We did not have the budget to repair and replace the whole wall so we opted for a toilet rebuild which required all the parts in the tank to be replaced. Since we were re-tiling the floor, the toilet needed to be temporarily moved. We also discussed replacing the vanity. My wife ordered a vanity online and we were off to the races... The plumber, Tom, arrived on Monday. He didn't have all the parts he needed but he quickly ran to the supply house, got what he needed and removed the toilet without incident. He also removed the vanity as agreed. The new vanity was already in the house. I specifically asked Tom if he had all the parts he needed and if he expected any issues. I also offered to help him carry the new vanity up to the second floor when the time came. The tile project was complete and we scheduled Tom to come back on Friday. When Tom came back he was completely unprepared. He did not have the correct parts on the truck and there were 5 stops to the supply house during the day. During the project, Tom was polite and tried his best. It wasn't the most efficient project but eventually the job got done. The toilet works and the vanity is installed. Our dissatisfaction was with the way the job was left. Tom left a mess on the brand new tile floor and wood trimmings from the vanity in the drawers and garbage in the house. On Friday night we sent an email to Erin from Ryan and Company requesting a phone call from Kevin ASAP. On Saturday morning, Erin returned our call. We expressed our dissatisfaction with the mess left behind. She immediately became defensive. She offered to send Tom back. We did not need to speak with Tom again. We asked to speak with Kevin since he was the person who performed the estimate and understood the scope of the project. We emailed pictures of the condition and we figured we would hear from Kevin on Monday. Literally 15 minutes later, the doorbell rings. It was Mr. William Ryan himself! He arrived to our property unannounced to discuss the situation. At first I was happy that he would take the time to stop by. However, Mr. Ryan arrived angry and defensive. He explained that it was not their job to clean up after themselves. "We are not a cleaning service." He claimed that installing the vanity was not in the scope. It was supposed to be a pedestal sink. ?!? He accused us of insulting Tom and bad mouthing his company. Until now, the only person we spoke with was Erin. We explained that we actually liked his company and verbally recommended them in the past. This behavior was so uncharacteristic of the man my wife and I had met several times before. He literally brought my wife to tears. Clearly, Mr. Ryan disagreed with my our assessment that the job was left a mess. He believes it is okay to leave construction materials on the floor. That is his prerogative. However, there was no need to be combative. He could have easily taken the high road. All we needed was a simple apology. Or even a half a$$ed apology for the mess. He asked that, "We never call him again and that we not recommend his company to anyone." So, Mr. Ryan, I will grant you your wish. I would NOT recommend that anyone work with William Ryan and Co, especially Mr. Ryan. What was once an honest, reliable company has now lowered its standard and feels it is necessary to make excuses instead of solving the problem. As the proverb goes, a fish rots from the head down. William Ryan has lost his way and has lowered the standard to which we were accustomed in the past.
