The gentleman who came in was very professional and courteous. Their estimate was just way too high.
Description of Work: They were giving us an estimate on painting the entire interior of the house and part of the exterior. They were also going to sand and redo our floors.
Provided estimate quickly but did not start work when expected. Work preformed was done well and messes were cleaned up daily. Inspection process passed over to me after a few missed appointments. Final electrical inspection failed, requiring electrical sub-contractor to return to correct issue. A three week project took two months to complete. Overall result was a beautiful new room and half bath.
Description of Work: Remodel family room in basement, including fixture updates to half bathroom. Lay tile flooring, new electrical work, new dry wall for walls and ceiling and painted interior area.
Excellent. George was quick to come over to provide an estimate. He follow-up with my husband and lowered the estimate a bit after we received another estimate from a competitor. The competition did not follow-up and we felt Monks would provide higher quality. George was involved throughout the process. The workers, led by Manny, were professional and neat. When I came home from work at night, the house was always amazingly clean given how much work went on in the day. They did not deviate from the estimate and even came on a Saturday while we were out. The work looks wonderful!!! They also followed-up after the work was completed and to see if we were satisfied - yes. We are hoping to get our hardwood floors in the kitchen refinished by Monks in the future, the quote of $1200 seemed reasonable - much cheaper than a new floor, more practical in a house of young boys.
Description of Work: Monks removed old wallpaper from our kitchen and hallway and painted the walls and ceilings, including fixing areas where there were surface issues. I would consider it a difficult job, as the wallpaper was old and the walls were not in the best shape underneath. Some areas of the hallway were high and some in the kitchen were a bit complex. Following the wallpaper removal and fixing the walls, they painted with primer and two coats. They purchased all of the supplies on our behalf at the paint store after we provided the colors. They use quality Benjamin Moore paint.

Description of Work: I recently moved into a 4 bedroom house that sorely needed shingles replaced, corners, and window frames replaced, as well as painting of the exterior. I called Monk's in late May-early June, and received a very prompt response from the company (Kurt). Rather than give you a step-by-step description of the process, I will tell you that everything that Kurt said they would do, they did, and they did it when he said they would. Kurt was also VERY accessible during the entire job. All of that is also true about the construction crew and the painting the crew. They replaced several hundred shingles, replaced all the corners and one of the window frames with Azik (sp?). They also replaced the posts at the bottom of the stairs on the front porch. They sanded the entire house down to the wood, put down two layers of primer, and two layers of paint. As indicated above, I called in late May-early June. Once they gave me the estimate and I decided to go with their company we set the job up for the week of July 9th. They contacted me the week before and began working the morning of July 10th with the construction which they mostly finished in about two days. The painting crew was equally prompt and professional. I was not home during the day and left the house open for them with no issues whatsoever. They also stripped, sanded, and refinished the front porch, which is mahogany. They did a nice job on the porch as well, but did better with the house. Mind you, there are no real issues with the porch, I just think next time I will have someone who ONLY does wood floors clean it up, because I want it to look like the living room. So nothing wrong with what Monk's did, I'm just picky about the porch. The crew was prompt everyday through completion of the job, and they cleaned up at the end of each day as well. If for some reason they were not going to be at the house, or were leaving early, they always called me. And the only reason they did not come, or left early was weather related. Overall, I was very pleased with how my house looked when they were finished and a month later I have not found anything that they missed. I have no reservations about using them again, or recommending them to anyone. As for pricing, they were very competitive with other bids I received from other smaller companies. In the end I chose Monk's because I could see it was a big job and I wanted they capacity they had to offer. The warranty didn't hurt either. If I ever have to exercise my rights under the warranty, I will update my evaluation.

We painted my mom's house about 5 years ago, and at that time, it hadn't been painted in YEARS (we discovered that when we found the second coat of paint was immediately absorbed into the previously stained cedar shakes). Well, we finished and considered it "weathered." Yet we know in time, we'd need to go at it again. About a month ago, I decided to see what it would cost to have it professionally painted. Now, as an avid (frugal) do-it-myselfer, I had reservations, and mom has always painted interior and exterior herself, so the thought of someone else painting was unheard of. Monk's had done two houses on my mom's street last year, and was just completing another. We called, had an estimator (George) the next day. He was professional, described the work to be done in detail, materials to be used, how the job would be supervised, and so forth. We reviewed the estimate, and I figured that if we purchased all the needed (high quality) paint, rented the power washer, took the time to scrape, rented a very high ladder, we would spend about half of the cost, and it would take much longer to complete as well. We also knew we needed some fascia replaced in the process, which Monk's also handled. The crew was very polite, neat, efficient. Many of the days were 90 degree+ days, yet they worked throughout. We lost about 4 days to rain, but the project was completed, with repair carpentry, in a week. The quality is excellent, and they do provide for touch up work within 3 years of the job. If we had any gripes they were little things -- related to not knowing the crew would not be coming on a day when it was expected to rain (but not yet raining), and the crew not putting downspouts back up at the end of the day (which resulting in our scurrying around in the rain to put them up to prevent run off and water pooling around the foundation). Now I've not yet seen the final product, as I needed to get back to Ohio, but mom reports it's "excellent.". Our thanks to George and the crew.
Description of Work: Power washed, scraped, and painted exterior of house: siding, trim, doors, soffits, Price included replacement of about 100' of fascia, soffit, and trim board (with Azek composite)

I like everything. They did a really great job. There really wasn’t anything that I dislike except for the elongation of the project which had nothing to do with them. It was a little hurdle that we bumped into during the project when they opened up our wall. It diverted them about a day. What was supposed to be 2 day worth of work ended up being 4 day worth of work because of that challenge. There were some subcontractors also being used. Overall I would say they were really good. I am actually looking to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Monk’s Home Improvements for simple carpentry and managing a construction project which included: recess lighting, home theater, electronic rewiring, switches, recessed TV flat screen mounting, shackling, moving outlets, custom hallway closet to house all electronics for TV, cable, FIOS, wifi router, , I love it, it is my new command central!

Very impressed with the level of professionalism. Kept to the time frame discussed and the work was completed quickly. Workers were professional and cleaned up after the work was completed. I would definitely recommend Monk's for any future job inside or out!
Description of Work: Powerwashed, Sanded and repainted deck and railings plus lattice work underneath the deck.
I have used them in the past and I trust them if it was not done right they would come back until it was done right. They also put in French doors and did a very nice job. They painted and put a bookshelf downstairs and did quite a bit.

They are absolutely excellent. They did the job very well and I was satisfied. I've never had this house painted so well. I found that all the workers were all responsible and considerate of me. there is a lot of mess with painting and they were very discreet and kind. He dispatches a work crew and tells me who the lead person is so if I have any questions I know who to go to. They were absolutely professional. I liked the experience. They did it quickly and did it when they said they would.
Description of Work: They painted my house for me.
I got several quotes and they were one of the highest. I am going to use them on the outside when weather changes.

They were prompt in returning my phone call, scheduling, and the workers were pleasant. However, I never saw the person who gave me the estimate again. After they finished, I noticed several spots on the wall that were not done satisfactorily (did not spackle, or spackled, and the spackling was still noticeable under the paint). Overall, just O.K. for the price.

The person that gives you a quote is different from those who actually do the work. Everyone that I dealt with for the entire projects were excellent. The quote was accurate with no hidden extras. The workers were very courteous, professional, and good at what they do. My only complaint is that the price for the cabinetry was expensive for what I received.

I waited some time before posting this review because I couldn't believe how smoothly everything went. I just knew something would come up, but nothing did. So, it is with delight that I can say from getting the estimate, to meeting the foreman, and seeing the crew over a two week period (a few days of rain in that time), the experience went exactly as they described. The crew was a very pleasant group from Costa Rica who cleaned up their items at the end of each day. Did I mention they worked what seemed to be twelve hour days? They left no mess after the last day. The cedar was hand stripped -- no pressure washing to gouge marks in the cedar -- till smooth and clean, only a few remnants of old paint in the cracks between tiles. The paint looks great and is mildew resistant. About two weeks after the job ended, I noticed one area that seemed a little more dull than the rest, maybe even a little yellowed. I called the foreman who looked at it and said they would re-do that area just to be sure. So, one more day of priming and painting and it looks great. There was no debate, no pushback, just we will do it till you are pleased. Obviously, I am happy with the experience and results. I suspect I paid more than other painters; however, I had a lot of carpentry done to clean up rotten windowsills and the like. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Description of Work: Entire exterior of two story cedar shake house stripped, re-primed two coats, and painted white two coats. Included garage and repair of wood rot, and painting of all shutters.

They did a first class job and the house looks terrific. They showed great attention to detail, even going through our many windows to make sure they open. They started late because of weather delays, but finished quickly once they got going. It had been many years since our last paint job and there was some wood deterioration but their carpenters replaced the unfixable and the sanders took care of the rest.
Description of Work: Exterior painting of 2800 square foot house, including interior of rear porch. Extensive prep work including carpentry ($2,225 of the cost), sanding and primer. Re-painting of shutters and even small details such as metal handrails.
