An estimator arrived promptly and gave an estimate that was the price of the job. No hidden costs!. A date and time was set up to do the job. The estimator arrived promptly on the scheduled work day. He, reviewed in my presence, what needed to be done with the foreman of the crew doing the painting. A day was spent repairing the walls and ceiling -- the house is 50 years old! The second day was the painting day. Again, the crew was polite and arrived promptly. My cabinets and floor were protected against paint splatter. The estimator, foreman, and owner of Monk's left their phone numbers with me in case an issue arose. They left my kitchen cleaner than I have left the kitchen for them. The quality of the work done was awesome/ outstanding. I highly recommend this company. After the job was done, the owner of the company called to ask about the quality of the work. I also received in the mail an evaluation form. How many contractors do that?

One of the first things I used was Monk's Home Improvements. I used them two years ago. If you have ever done dry rot it's a bit#h. Trust me it's this stuff you put it on there, it's a water sealer, on cinder block and it's very thick and very goopy. They were good at what they did. Actually I have talked to them about stuff but I have gone with other providers for various reasons and it wasn't for there lack of ability, sometimes it was knowing someone longer.

Replaced deck. Took more than 12 months to complete. Failed inspection even though I pointed out problems beforehand. Left nails in driveway which caused a flat tire. Left materials in driveway that got buried by snow. Too much more to detail. Kitchen backsplash. I bought 20% extra tile, but at the end they were looking for scraps to finish the job. Missed grouting some of the corners. Tried to increase quote by 30% after the job was started. Ceiling crack repair: Told me after the cracks returned that they couldn't be fixed, experts should have known before they took my money. Didn't offer to refund.

The project manager was very friendly and spent 3 hours with us so it was a big surprise that he didn't get back to us. After repeatedly saying they would get back. They never did. Update: They provided a quote for revised work since we went ahead with the demo, plumbing, electrical and structural repair on our own . The the shreetrock alone it was 3x the cost of the next highest quote that we had gotten in the meantime...
Description of Work: They came to our house to assess the work which was to gut three rooms and sheetrock, paint, etc as well as address a porch structural issue and provide an estimate. Never got back to us. Update: Upon reading the review, they got back to us and scheduled time to see the work again and give an estimate on the spot.

I've heard good things about their jobs, and when they visited to estimate several jobs I may need done, I agree. They were punctual, easy to deal with, and their prices are competitive. The 750 is an estimation for the one job I most needed, a large living room painted and cracks fixed. I have no engaged them, and in the case I do not, I want to have a review as a recommendation that their reputation stands up to what I experienced.

Monk's did a great job. They were punctual, responsive, stuck to their estimate and did quality work. While Monks can be a bit more expensive than other companies, they manage larger jobs really well. The carpentry crew, painting crew, and project manager are all in regular communication. Also, once they start your job, they come every day (except Sunday) until it's complete - there's no waiting around wondering if you contractor is going to show up that day. The crews are all nice and friendly as well.
Description of Work: Monks did a variety of exterior repairs and painted the exterior of the house. Repairs were primarily cedar shake replacement with some trim and molding repair. Painting included power washing, spot scraping, priming, and paint.

We had heard that this provider has 2 or 3 different teams that go to different neighborhoods based upon size of homes and quotes differently for those larger homes for same work but did not believe this until we got the quote. (we have a larger than average home, but were not asking for work that was commensurate with this larger overall size...in other words our small bathroom we wanted to have redone is no bigger than one in much smaller homes so it should cost the same.) We never used them because their quote did indeed seem to be extremely overinflated for what we were asking to have done.
Description of Work: Provided quote for some work to be performed on our home. Deck needed some reconditioning, small washroom bathroom was quoted (labor only) without any materials and was more than 4 other contractors quoted us for entire job. House was built in late 90's so wasn't like it was a complete renovation (just floor tiles, a new sink/toilet and shower stall.

Dear [member name removed], I appreciate you having us out to bid on your project and I certainly understand a customer wanting to get the best deal possible. I would like to categorically say that we do not price based on neighborhoods. We have very specific pricing standards that are based on size, sq. footage and work conditions. We maintain the same people in the same neighborhoods as much as possible. We assign work based on skill sets, not the price a job was sold at. If one bathroom costs more than another bathroom, it is because we feel that one will take more time and effort than the other. If you would like to meet our team and discuss this more in depth, I would invite you to come by our office. I would be happy to show you around, introduce you to our company and go over your quote with you. Ty Monk

Our estimator, George Day, was very thorough and professional. We went around the entire house and he took copious notes about the work that needed to be done. The carpentry and painting crews all showed up on time, were very neat and professional, and immediately dealt with any questions or issues I had. George was also available during the entire 8 day job to help resolve any issues. I was very pleased with the quality of both the carpentry and painting and I would use Monk's again in the future.

We had used Monks for interior and exterior painting many years ago and they were great. We requested that they power wash and seal our ipe wood deck and also to stain one fence gate. We requested a clear stain. Travis Marion said we also needed the trim around the door replaced. He gave us itemized quotations for the work and assured us that they would use a clear stain that would not change the grayish color of the wood. The carpentry and painting of the trim and staining of the gate went fine. The gentleman that came to stain the gate showed me a sample by applying it with a cloth. This showed some reddish color, but not too much. I, mistakenly told him to go ahead. They then applied the seal/coat heavily with a brush totally changing the color of the deck so that it now looks like redwood, instead of the much higher quality ipe. I am very disappointed in the result. In addition, Travis was unresponsive to calls requesting a receipt and the workers showed up a day later than he said they would. Other than telling the worker that applied the stain, I did not contact Monks to complain, as I'm sure there is nothing they can do about it now that it's done. I just have to wait a few years for it to wear off.

Monk's provided superb service from start to finish. Upon receiving our call an estimator was sent promptly to our house to explain the process and charges. Soon after the crew arrived, went to work and accomplished the job of refurbishing the 4-rooms in only three days. Both the sheetrock repairs and the painting were expertly done to our complete satisfaction. It was a pleasure to be able to leave the house in the morning when the crew showed up and come back at the end of the day to see the progress that had been made. We were especially impressed with the crew foreman, Greivin Fonseca, whose professionalism, skill, attention to detail, and to our needs and requests was greatly appreciated. We are extremely happy with the results and feel that the cost of the job was money well-spent on our part. We highly recommend Monk's Home Improvements to any home owner in need of painting and/or home repairs of the highest quality. I should also mention that Monk's had painted my sister-in-law's house about three years ago and she had nothing but praise for the outcome.

Monk's did an excellent job. The most difficult part of painting is the wall preparation and, in this case, we had walls that had been stripped of wall paper as well as wood walls. Monk's was very thorough in preparing the surfaces - spackling and caulking all of the rooms. The overall job was excellent. Throughout the project (from estimate to completion), they were punctual and professional. We would definitely hire them again for another project.

Perfect. Travis from Monk's responded to my call right away. We scheduled a day/time for him to estimate work. He showed up as promised and on time. He provided an estimate within 24 hrs, and pricing was reasonable. He sent 2 men to perform the work. They were polite, respectful of my home, were very neat and clean. They removed sheetrock from walls and ceiling of 2nd floor landing which was damaged from attic HVAC hose bursting. Painting job seamlessly blends with adjacent walls/ceiling. I would unequivocally hire again and recommend even if their pricing is a bit higher than others. They'll save you from the stress and hassles of using less reputable contractors.

After three attempts by Monk's over a period of eight work days and their calling in three different crews of workmen, the entire nature of their claims of being a top professional company of painters remains in question for us. A job that was to take four work days became seven days and then eight over a span of three weeks, as different crews came in to remedy the work of the previous workers. Furniture sustained damage since it was not covered or protected from ladders or other equipment the workmen brought in and out of the house, and items of furniture were sometimes stacked on top of others without protective materials between them. Paint splatters appear on doors, molding, hardwood floors, and furniture, and sometimes glass. Gouges and other damage to furniture which we have maintained in our home for over forty years will take our time and effort to remedy. Spackling in several rooms is still unsatisfactory after three tries, and drips of paint are evident on a bedroom wall. Drop cloths that were used by the first crew were emptied out on our front and back lawns, and the debris was left there for us to cleanup. In fact, Monk's did make several efforts to address the poor quality of their work, and the foremen as well as the owner agreed about the workmanship issues we noted. After the first crew left, one severely damaged chair was taken to be repaired and refinished at their expense and was returned in very good repair and condition. However, after three plus weeks of our home being in upheaval because of the various crews coming in and out, we were no longer willing to accept any further efforts to "make it right". A job should be right the first time, maybe the second, but after a third strike you are called "out". We were somewhat satisfied with a discount the owner gave on our final bill after coming in and reviewing the work. However, we would have been most pleased if the final effort had been a first-rate one. Although their signs appear all over the county, and even though the ratings and comments on Angie's List were all high, we were disappointed in this company overall.

From the first meeting with their estimator, Richard Ressa, several months before the work began, they provided a top quality, professional service. They met their schedules, adjusted their timing consistent with the weather, kept me totally informed. they had several Foreman, depending on whether it was door replacement or house painting who took total control of the job, were supported be very competent workers all of whom impressed me by their eagerness to do a prompt but thorough job.The Foreman were Gerald Fonseca and Oscar Quesada. We had several changes to make and those changes were accepted and promptly completed (always with a smile).

In short, great. I did some research and wanted them to use some stain by TWP (specifically, TWP 1502, a *beautiful* redwood stain, http://www.twpstain.com/) They didn't mind using the stain I provided. Angel Lugo stopped by to do the paperwork, quoted me the best price out of 3 different quotes I got. He was professional, thoughtful and didn't mind all my questions. Unfortunately, I got my quote right at the beginning of pollen season, which Angel advised me about and that they would call me in a few weeks when it was over. Nobody wants all that yellow stuff stuck in the stain! Angel called back a few weeks later, introduced me to his foreman Wilson Duran, and we reviewed the work to be done. Wilson brought his crew out within a few days, they washed the deck, let it dry, came back in a day or two, stained it, and then came back a few days later to touch up missed spots. The deck looks BEAUTIFUL now, and I have no trouble recommending Monk's, especially Angel and Wilson. Great job guys, thanks!

Monk's home improvement was a great experience. The estimator who came out to our house was very professional. She pointed out areas of my home that could be repaired for a reasonable cost that if not fixed could cause further damage. The price was very reasonable for all the repairs. The guys that came out to do the repairs went above and beyond what they needed to do. They did some painting around the work to ensure that it looked good. Great experience.

The carpentry work was all done perfectly - everything looks exactly the same as before the job was done, except those areas of trim that needed replacing look fresh and new - some were done with wood, and some with synthetic. The staining and painting work was done meticulously and professionally, with proper preparation so I expect it to last and look good for a while. Monks also stands by their work and anything that I've noticed that I thought needed re-doing they have come and fixed up - there wasn't a whole lot of that, but when you do an entire house there's bound to be some spots. The crew was on time every day and worked a long day, so they finished in good time. The exterior of our house looks as good as when we did a major renovation back in 2004.

All began very smoothly, and based on the reviews we had received from others in the area and Angies List we decided to move forward with Monk's. Angel came out, gave us a quote and seemed to be on top of his stuff. The service was scheduled and completed in a timely manner. The facade began to crumble (no pun intended) after the work was completed. The first mistake arose when we found out they had actually used exterior paint on the decks instead of stain (may have been our fault for not fully comprehending what they had said during the initial consultation or for not fully communicating to them what we wanted). Normally exterior paint on a deck would not be a big deal however they only used one coat. About two months after the job we began to see chipping and just overall wear of the paint. We called Angel to come back and take a look- he agreed that the decks were not looking like they should so he sent his man back to go over the problem areas. The workers put an additional coat on the smaller of the two decks but didn't touch the other. Again I had Angel come back out to look at the larger deck and he said that he didn't see any issues and that the wear was actually dirt (this was September). We mutually decided that if I marked the spots that he would have someone come by again to touch it up. Well that person never showed up... This spring I come out to the deck and it's a mess. Half the deck is chipped, a table and bench they painted is peeling and chipped but the deck they used the second coat on looks fine (shocking). Needless to say quality was not what we paid for regarding this job. It's a shame because we have a bunch or projects to complete on the house and we will never use Monk's again because of the lack of craftsmanship on a simple project like sanding/staining a couple of decks. I am normally not a big reviewer but just want buyers to beware and watch over the project when using Monk's. I know they have a great reputation, our experience just did not live up to that standard.
