He came - he was punctual and gave a detailed estimate, but we found the estimate to be high.

Used excellent quality pain. Finished in a timely manner. Very professional. Was very good about me being picky with color on my window boxes. Overall great experience.

Since we painted the house (and removed siding) 13 years ago, a lot of the prep had been done the last time - the house was scraped down to the wood last time. So, instead of scraping to to bare wood again, the whole house was pressure washed, problem areas were scraped and sanded, and then primer and paint. What I really appreciated was the speed at which the job was done. Other painter I've used show up a couple days and then don't for a few days. This time the whole job was done in less than 2 weeks. It may be because we booked early in he season, but it was refreshing to feel like we were the only customer for this crew

We were extremely pleased with the overall experience. First and foremost, the workmanship is terrific. There is a wealth of experience in the Company. One of the reasons that I choose Gikas is that the Company has an excellent reputation and as I drive through the Montclair, West Orange area I see so many homeowners use the Company. However, when I first started with the work on the home last summer, I wanted to make sure that I made the correct choice and I went out to 5 companies for interviews and price quotes before selecting Gikas. Although, Gikas is very busy (particularly during the summer months), George (one of the owners) spent a great deal of time with me, listening to what I wanted and making suggestions. It was very apparent that he knew what he was doing. A few things that stood out from my experience after 3 different jobs with this Company are: - Experienced painting and carpentry: There is a huge advantage in working with someone who has expertise and the ability to do the carpentry as well as the painting when you are trying to make changes to your home. I have observed that this saves a great deal of time in getting the job done as well as money. I wanted to update the look of the house. This involved significant carpentry work as well as painting (molding around the windows, door and roof line, changing part of the exterior around the front of the house). Of course, I was on a tight budget. As George is an experienced carpenter as well, he worked with me by proposing certain changes that made an unbelievable impact, are in keeping with the style of my home and falling within my budget. It was great not having to contract and coordinate with another company to do the carpentry work on the home. - Price: Given the popularity of the Company and the type of homes that I knew that Gikas had worked on, I expected the Company to be very expensive and actually, I expected that on price alone, I would not be able to afford the Company. These were significant jobs and certainly big expenditures however, what I found interesting is that because Gikas included the carpentry work in the quote, it was actually the most budget friendly. All the quotes I received were in the same area however, 3 of the companies required me to contract with another company for carpentry work. When it came time to price out the other two jobs that I asked Gikas to do, I was comfortable that price was reasonable in relation to the work that I wanted to have done on my home. - Design Assistance: Another aspect that I found very helpful is that the Gikas puts you in contact with a designer to help you select colors (no extra charge). I found this extremely helpful. I find color selection quite daunting. The designer that I worked with did an incredible job in helping select a color scheme. I was more than happy to work with the same designer in choosing the interior paint colors for our home. - Painters and Carpenters: After 3 jobs, I found that the men that worked on my home were extremely polite, very thorough in their work (including cleaning up once they were done) and very responsive to my concerns. I was comfortable having them in my home, was confident in their work, and found them pleasant to work with on all occasions. - Timing: I advise that you set reasonable expectations on this. In my case, the exterior paint job took longer than I anticipated. Certainly, my expectations were unreasonable. For example, I did not factor in the likely fact that rains would (and did) cause a delay in completing the job. Also, I was part of the delay because I could not finalize my color selections. However, the simple fact is during the summer, the Company is extremely busy and has a number of clients. However, and it is no doubt apparent since I have used Gikas for two more jobs after that, due to the fact that Gikas does top quality work and has a great deal of knowledge and experience, these factors alone far outweigh the inconvenience posed by delay. I should also note that I found delay to be an issue only with the exterior paint job. The interior work went extremely quickly; George makes it a top priority to get the interior work done quickly, given the potential for disruption to family life when working inside someone's home. In fact, on short notice, I was able to get the interior painting and and significant carpentry work done before Thanksgiving. Gikas really worked with me in getting the job done in time for the Holiday. By the way, timing is different that punctuality. If Gikas tells you that they will be at your home at a certain time, make sure you are home because they will be there. I have every intention of using Gikas again. In fact, they will be working on my roof (January, 2013 ) which was damaged during the storm. Over the years, I have used so many different contractors and the experience in almost all cases has been extremely disappointing. I have recommended Gikas to my neighbors and a number of them have in fact, based on the exterior job to my home, have contracted with the Company to do work on their homes. The owner, George Gikas, seemed to know his field and his price was in the middle of a few others. His crew did a very good job. My only quibble was that I thought George could have kept me better informed on when the work would be done.

Contacted them for painting estimate. Called back quickly the first time, but did not show for appointment (nor did they call to cancel). When I called to re-schedule, I was told they would get back to me shortly; that was three days ago. Would not use.

It was an excellent experience. George (from Gikas) responded immediately to my original call and spent a good amount of time with me pointing out what should be done and making suggestions. He was very thorough. He quickly gave me the estimate in writing and followed up with phone calls to see if we had any questions. Once we decided to go with Gikas he made several trips out to the house to look things over and brought Gikas along to meet us and give his suggestions. They really seemed to have a good grasp of the style of the house and what would best bring out its charm. I informed them of what our schedule was since I knew we would be going away within a couple of weeks and they accommodated us to get the job done before we were to leave. Gikas helped me with color ideas and made excellent suggestions regarding accents, etc. Gikas gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him whenever I had questions or when I needed his input with color and accent decisions as we went along. I contacted him several times and he always came right out and helped me make a decision.He was very hands on. The painters were all pleasant, professional and worked extremely hard over the 2 weeks they were here. The carpenter, Angelo, was excellent and we were very impressed with his work. We are very pleased with how the house turned out. I would use them again and would definitely recommend them to others.

Gikas Painting and restoration is a well known company around the Bloomfield, Montclair, and GlennRidge area. I would see the companies vans throughout the area and decided to write down their number and get an estimate. From day one George the owner answered all of my questions, returned my calls, responded to my millions of emails, and dropped by to check the progress of the house without even being asked to. The deciding factor that made me choose Gikas was the detailed proposal that I received. He told me everything that he was going to do from A to Z. The other two companies that I spoke to didnt provide as much information which made me feel uncomfortable. Gikas was not the cheapest out of the three estimates I received but, I've learved that the cheapest is not always the best. I know that I drove George and his crew crazy regarding choosing my colors and pointing out things that they were already aware of. This was my first time having the exterior of the house painted so I was nervous and wanted things done a certain way. I was acting like I was the painter. Gikas is now my one stop shop! This company has put my boring, peeling, house back on the map! I have neigbors and random people driving by saying how beautiful the house has turned out. My home is now the best looking house on the corner. I'm totally satisfied with the end results so therefore I may possibly use Gikas for other projects such as roofing, masonary work, and more carpentry. I've already recommend Gikas to several people... and I know that they will not be disappointed!.

The house (a Victorian from the late1800's) hadn’t been painted for 15 years. It had shingling that went from a terrible green to an awful “salmon” (which looked more like pumpkin orange). People actually called it the pumpkin house! It was a little embarrassing. Enter George and Gikas. I recall that once my parents hired them to paint the house the two of them stood outside looking and talking for several hours. The house was speaking to them, they later told us. We were anxious to see what it said! Although the house was very nice – spacious and with a great porch – and although I had lived in the house since I was 3 years old, I had never really thought of it as beautiful or something to admire. After all, it was orange. I will never forget the day I came home to see the original clap wood exposed. The house hadn’t a drop of paint on it but the shingles were gone. I cried. It was an amazing site. I felt so moved, so connected to this house, as if I was seeing it for the first time. I was shocked at my reaction but really, it was beautiful! And then the paint was applied – WOW! Nine different colors. A painted lady! The house was transformed and so was my regard for the only home I ever knew. Once the shingles came off people would stop and look and often stand there (in car or on foot) for 10 minutes just looking and talking. If we were on the porch or in the front yard they would even tell us how wonderful the house looked! It was shocking how much attention the house received! It was nice though. The employees of Gikas Painting and Restoration were all courteous and respectful of the property (e.g., tried not to damage flowers, etc). Each day they cleaned up before they left. They worked efficiently and cooperatively. George and/or Gikas routinely stopped in to check on the progress and they kept us all informed. Overall it was a terrific experience! The house recently underwent a touchup painting and it still looks great! All my family members have used Gikas Painting and Restoration for any home projects (the interior of my parents’ house was completely renovated, our floors were refinished, our roof was redone, my sisters porch redone) and we will continue to use them for all of our home renovation and repair needs!

At first it was too hot to work so they started later than proposed, but once they started they were prompt and they cleaned up well afterwards. George recommended that I put wooden frames around some windows that would match the other windows since the previous owner of the house changed windows and they were all different. I was very pleased with the result. Other contractors wanted to do it the easy way by covering the wood with aluminum frames that would not have matched the age and style of the house. The carpenter and painters very nice and professional. Good job.

They are wonderful. They were outstanding in every way. There were no problems at all. They were very accommodating. Their workers were lovely. I really didn't think they would be as great as they were. They went beyond my expectations. We got comparison prices, and their price was great.

We had a great experience with the company. They arrived when they said they would be there and completed all work in a very timely manner. The quality of their work was top notch, and the crew was extremely consciencous and polite. The carpenter was absolutely amazing to watch, working with such precision and efficiency.

Gikas gave a precise estimate and stuck to it. The sanding was done thoroughly. The carpentry was done quickly and there were no disagreements or surprises about what was included in the price. The painting was accomplished efficiently, with sanding inbetween the two coats so that the pain adhered well. The workers were prompt, friendly, polite, hard-working, and had a lot of expertise. Owners always answered phone calls promptly and responded to all questions quickly and gave us good advice about color choices.

Overall the house looks great froma distance. WHile getting closer, you can see, upon careful examination, what they did not do. However, they did a nice job on the carpentry and new gutters.

Gikas was perfection from start to finish. They came out and gave me a quote and were able to start on the job the next week, they explained everything they were going to do and followed through on all of there promises. The quote they gave me was spot on and all of there workers were very courteous and would clean up each night after they were done. I plan on using them in the near future and would 100% recommend them to friends and family.

It was an excellence experience, I was a bit skeptical in the beginning because some reviews were not the best about them; but i asked a few of my friends that have used Gikas and they were happy with him, so I decided to use them. It was the best decision that i did, fair priced and very professional. I am starting to think that those bogus reviews are probably from his competitors. Gikas is ACES on my book and i would recommend them to every one.

Overall, everything was done in a professional manner. After we made arrangements with George, the guys showed up and got to work. There was no mulling around or wasted time. The workmen had a good attitude and paid attention to the details. I was also impressed by how well they cleaned up at the end of each day. The Gikas crew filled two small dumpsters (4 yd?) with the waste associated with the job. The driveway was not marred, scratched, or gouged when the dumpsters were initially placed and later removed.

Be prepared for a fabulous experience! George contacted us straight away when we called for an estimate; his professionalism both on the phone and in person was outstanding. We have had houses painted in the past and ended with paint on trees, plants, stonework, screws and nails everywhere, etc. None of that happened with George's crew! Even more importantly, we had a "hiccup" during the project; the realtor's suggestion of a neutral color (we have our house on the market) for some reason looked horrible on the house. Without a single complaint or missing a beat, the Gikas team applied the replacement color. It was as if nothing had happened! Unbelievably, cedar shingles that had been torn off during the October ice storm were replaced and painted as well! We are confident you will find their pricing fair and justifiable, with an equal level of quality work and concern for your expectations. You cannot lose by giving George Gikas a call.

I just bought a new home and wanted to have a few of the rooms painted. I called Gikas, who was recommended to me by a family member. The 2 man crew arrived at my home promptly on time. They were very hard working and met every one of my needs. The crew was friendly and very detailed orientated. They worked non-stop and were very professional. I was very impressed with their work, and have already recommended their company to my friends and family. I will definately be using their services in the future.

Absolutely a great job, standing behind their work and strive for maximum customer satisfaction. I hired Gika's Painting for roofing and everything was handled professionally from day one, till the job was completed. When i first met with the consultant he gave me a proposal on the spot and within a week the work had started. The site was spotless during the entire process, which I loved considering myself as a neat freak. The quality, excellent workmanship and craftsmanship of the roof, has transformed my house to one of the best ones on Main St. I would recommend this company without hesitations, and i hope other customers will be as content as i am.

My friend had called for Gikas services last fall. Since she was very pleased, I decided to call the company. They immediately responded to me. When the company's foreman (George), came into my house, we walked around, made some comments regarding carpentry, and he gave me an estimate and that WAS IT (no surprises)! The job was scheduled as I requested, always on time and very professional. The crew was very friendly, and there was no feeling of having strangers at your house. Everything was cleaned after the job was done each day. The price was too good to be true for the work that had been done. Also, which surprised us, George painted my daughter's room for free because it was her birthday. We were more than HAPPY with the job that Gikas Painting did for us.

Overall working with Gikas was a good experience. They were recommended to us by our clients. We had also seen a lot of their work in nearby Montclair,N.J. And we were Impressed. The roof was done first and their clean-up was great.that job was done in one day. Next was the gutters and sanding of the house. They took care to cover all of the windows so no additional dust would get in the windows. Since January was so nice they were able to paint the outside. A flat roof was the next project that they finished. Lastly all of the trimmings with the doors and windows were done this last Sunday. All of the workers were very polite and clean. We did not have to be on top of them or clean up after them. Great service provided by Gikas.

I was very unhappy with them. When they would get overwhelmed with work, they would just go out and get anyone to paint. I know what a good painter should be, and I just didn't get that. They tried to correct my complaints, but in the end I just wasn't happy. In the end I kind of fired them for the last 3 rooms. I paid them, but I never used them again. It was an ongoing project that was not done efficiently at all. You get what you pay for with them. Their quote was half of what everyone else wanted, but so was their work. The men themselves were wonderful, but they weren't good painters. They painted two rooms the wrong color, and then they had to do them all over. They were here everyday, but it took them forever. The men themselves were responsive, but the problems were never really corrected. They don't care who they send. They are not properly trained. I would never use them again in the future.

The whole experience was pretty annoying after we waited long for Gikas to show up for the initial evaulatoin. If it was this difficult to give Gikas a sizeble job, can you imagine how difficult it would be if you had any problem with their works?

They did a great job with all services - they completed the work in a reasonable amount of time (a few days for the painting, a few days for the front steps). They custom built the lattice for under our front porch to match an existing portion that was all rotted. They did this exceptionally well. The only small complaint we had was that they left a can of paint under the porch and THEN closed it all up with the lattice they built, leaving that can of paint under there for eternity! Other than that, they were great.
