Gave an estimate. Took a deposit and cashed it within hours. Kept telling me next week I will do the work. Never did the work. Now I am pursuing him via legal action.
Description of Work: Stay away from this person. He took my deposit and never did the work. He is a crook!

We contacted Decastro Roofing after storm damage. Water was leaking through our dining room ceiling. Mr. Decastro mentioned he could easily and cost effectively repair the damage. He came back for an estimate showing a price of $475.00. incl. warranty. After work was completed, however, the final price we were charged was $675.00 and it was claimed that there had been more work than originally anticipated. After the next heavy rain, we noticed that there was still water seeping through the dining room ceiling and now also running down on the inside of the exterior dining room dry wall. Wet spots on ceiling and wall started turning black. We contacted Decastro Roofing numerous times, left voice- and text messages outlining the persisting problem and asked for a call back to schedule another appointment to repair the damage under warranty given. Decastro never called back nor showed any interest or willingtness to deal with the issue that was now causing more damage to our home. We requested a proper invoice and warranty document but all we received was a hand written note on the back of a cardboard door hanger. Having visually inspected the repairs on our roof, all we could see was some silicone squirted into gaps and onto nail heads which seemed to be fairly little for $675.00. As we never received any call back, we asked our HO insurance to inspect the damage as this was meanwhile becoming a bigger issue. The insurance inspector found that despite the superficial repairs, the original damage was still causing water to enter the house inflicting more damage. We are now contracting a bona fide roofing company to repair the roof in a professional manner and for good. In the meantime, we are seeking refund through BBB. Obviously we cannot recommend this company.
Description of Work: Roof damage after hurricane Irene was repaired by applying silicone into some gaps and applying drops of silicone onto nail heads.

We contracted DeCastro in May of 2009, with a deposit of $1,500 given prior to any work being completed. DeCastro removed 3/8's of the contracted gutter and left it on the front lawn. They also ripped up a significant portion of the flashing, exposing the roof to weather and animal intrustion. They did not return, after numerous calls. We had to contract a new firm at double the price in late November. There had been 5 squirrels in the roof, 2 which had died in place. We took them to small claims court, gained a decision nearly equal to the contract price. To this point, 11/10, they have given us less that $500 of the judgment against them. They also didn't remit the deposit we gave them. Never, never, never use this company.

Terrible. DeCastro actually compounded the problem. On five separate occasions over a six week period, throughout terrible rain this winter as our interior wall damage got worse and worse, Al promised to come "the next day, for sure" and take care of it. He never showed and then stopped returning calls. I sued him in Essex County small claims court where, not surprisingly he did not show. I won a judgment which of course, he has not paid. We had to pay another company another $800 to repair the work that DeCastro did. How he can stay in business is beyond me.
Description of Work: They were to repair a leak in the roof that was causing a leak to an interior wall.
