Response from Jacobsen Landscape Design & Construction
For [Member name removed]’s design, we suggested a variety of plants that would enhance her front yard and curb appeal on a year-round basis. [Member name removed] specifically requested plants that flower, and unfortunately many flowering plants do not live in winter months. As part of the mix of plants, we suggested and planted a number of Cherry Laurel plants, which flower but which also stay green all year round – this was suggested as the cherry laurels would anchor the planting and the garden would not be bare in cold months. The customer had evergreens planted in the bed before our redesign, and she requested us to remove the evergreens and plant more materials that flower. The comment Mark made about whether he would plant her same planting at his house referred to the simple fact that Mark would not install flowering plants in his front yard anyway, but instead would install all evergreen varieties. Travis was neither abrupt nor belligerent -- he simply pointed out other residents in the neighborhood who also chose to have flowering plants in their front yards, and that they too died over the winter. Having a frontage including flowering plants is a matter of taste, and he was merely making that remark. Mark did respond with an alternate plan (albeit later than the customer required) as there was no rush to install alternate plants in the Spring as the plants were flowering at that time, and the replacements could be done at any time. We believe the work done produced a gorgeous flowering, yet seasonal, garden, and again this is what the customer requested.
