Horizon Pest Control

When we first discovered the bed bugs, we sprayed and killed them, then called a local exterminator who came, told us a horror story about having the "throw away just about everything you don't need" and told us the charge for the treatment would be $1100 with a 3-month guarantee. It seemed like he was giving us a sales pitch, so I joined Angie's List, where I found Horizon and called them. They inspected the house and quoted us a price hundreds of dollars less than the first exterminator, with a one-year guarantee. After their inspection, they said that the infestation appeared to be limited to one room, but suggested we also treat an adjoining room "to be safe." They said that a preventative treatment would be sufficient for the rest of the house. After the first treatment, they suggested treating a third bedroom for the follow-up, which we told them to do. We have seen no bed bugs since. Nobody has been bitten. They appear to be entirely gone. Prepping the rooms and house for service is no picnic. YOu have to bag and wash clothing and other items, vacuum the house thoroughly, and put up with everything being in disarray until after the follow-up. But the people we dealt with did not tell us any horror stories and gave clear, thorough instructions on what to do. They were patient with my follow-up questions and always answered promptly by email or phone. They are honest, reasonable and did a great job for us. I will continue to use them for things like termite inspection.

I signed a Yard Guard contract in May of 2012. The company was supposed to come three times: Once in May, once in July, and once in September. The first two times went fine. I received a phone call that they would be coming, and they left their work order to show they were at my home. However, for the September service they never showed up. I called Horizon, and they admitted that they neglected to service my property as agreed for the month of September. We agreed that I would be credited for the missed service in the spring of 2013. I requested this in writing. She told me they could not provide anything in writing, but I can be assured that my account was marked for the missed service. I guess we'll see next spring. So as of now I've spent over $540 on two exterior treatments of my yard. My local exterminator charges $140 per visit, so I ended up paying nearly twice as much for the same service with Horizon. If Horizon makes good on their promise to cary over the service into next year to make good on the missed service, I will provide an update. Edit 10/29/2012 - I received a letter in the mail today stating the same as what is below. Mistakes can happen, and it's nice to see Horizon doing everything they can to make sure I have a good experience with their service. Rarely have I experienced a company willing to go the extra mile like this. I am changing my ratings to reflect Horizon's responsiveness.

They came out and set the trap. He told me he thought it might be a groundhog. The trap caught three birds and a groundhog. I was trying to let the groundhog out and they told me I could not let it out because of the contract. I wouldn't have called them out if it was just a groundhog. I would not use them again because I felt that he took advantage of the sale.

They did a good job. They were very pleasant, on time and professional.

They were very clean. They were very consistent with their appointments and we were pleased with their service.

When they came over, they knocked on my tenent’s door and since they didn't get an answer they returned to the office. I gave them a call later in the day and they said they would come back out to do the inspection. It was very nice of him to make that second trip and didn’t charge me for that. He came and did termite and inspection and let me know that there was nothing to worry about. He said I owed him nothing.

The first treatment person they sent was very impatient. Knocked at the door and asked me what he needs to do. I told him that he should come prepared not I telling him what to do. He left in a huff. I called the office. They promised to take care of it. I got a call back from the sales person who apologized and explained how they would be handling it. The new treatment person was patient, explained what he is going to do, what will happen after the treatment. The second follow up trip was equally satisfying. I am happy with this company.

I contacted Horizon because of their top rating on Angie's list.The salesman was very thourough and explained everything in detail.We decided to go with other company because of treatment method.

Great! The chemicals are in the ground, but they need time to work - 3 months or more. BTW, the chemicals used were the same for mostly all vendors. FYI, Horizon Pest Control mainly won because of their salesperson. He was responsive, followed up, and closed the deal with good pricing.

Anthony arrived on time, introduced himself as the Horizon tech and verified that he was at the correct address. He explained what he was going to do and how long it would take. The first spray coat was to kill existing mold. The second spray about a half hour later was to seal out future mold. If such an experience could be called pleasant this would be it. Anthony did his work in an efficient and proficient manner. He was polite, direct and personable. The fact that no walls had to be torn down and rebuilt was a bonus to this process. I would you use Horizon again if, heaven forbid, mold were to reappear.

We were purchasing a home in Rutherford, and the seller wasn't able to provide proof of termite treatment. We also found a beam in the basement with termite damage from some time along the home's history.While we were still in purchase negotiations, Michael was able to come out promptly to provide an estimate. He was professional, thorough and punctual. When we asked friends in the area, we learned that his estimate was extremely reasonable.When we closed a couple of months later, Horizon was one of our first calls. As had been our experience early on, Michael was again punctual, professional, thorough and explained what he was doing. We are very satisfied with the service we received, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Horizon Pet Control.

They came (a couple of times), they saw and, as of right now, they conquered.

The evaluation of the attic pest problems (mice and bees) went smoothly and promptly by Horizon. On the first treatment day the technician did not bring all the supplies that were needed to complete the jobs, but a follow up appt in a week did complete the work. All technicians and the evaluator were professional, courteous, and competent. We'll now need to see if the pests remain at bay.

They give a year warranty on their work. The service tech Glen is a very nice guy. If I could have given him an A+ I would have.

The sales person arrived on time on the appointed date. He thoroughly inspected the house and property, keeping us informed all along the way about what he was doing and why. He found the ant colony with the queen, which was pretty cool. He advised that we should have regular treatments for our home and property. We were having such an infestation that his advice seemed sound and we took the yearly package. Next year, we will only do one spraying because OTC sprays took care of the queen and colony before Horizon showed up. The technician showed up on time and professionally handled the job. After that, however, the service fell apart. There was no follow up from the sales person or from the office. I had to call them to ask when the next service would be scheduled.

I called them to remove pavement ants from the inside of my home. They did so, and also laid traps to see what other critters might be plaguing our home that could potentially cause damage. When the ants returned a month later, they came back immediately, no charge (I bought the yearly maintenance plan) and I haven't seem them again since. I'm glad I bought the yearly package, which covers most common pests. They were super professional, explained everything clearly, and were extraordinarily responsive.

The call was initiated after the detection of (water damaged) windows in the basement were noted. Both the initial inspector and the (follow up) on-site technician were prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. They asked questions about the property, pests noted or ever observed, inquired about pets and answered all of our questions regarding the treatment and their observations. We requested and will receive a termite follow-up out of planned cycle without hesitation or concern by the Horizon team.

They were extremely expensive so I have been doing it myself for the last two years. They were good and always did the perimeter of the house trying to control the ants. They were thorough and professional but I have been doing it myself and it seems to be working. I had a very pleasant person who came out to treat my property. They did not do the inside of my house so I have been using traps.

They are basically reliable and they come when they are supposed to come and if one needs to call them on emergency situations they come out the next or two. Their customer service is pretty good. Price wise I have not used anybody else

I would highly recommend them and we have a yearly contract with them. They went in the crawl space, around the outside of the house and went on the baseboards inside the house. They left traps; if we saw a bug in the trap we were supposed to call them and they would come and re-apply. I like everything including the people, the phone service and their promptness. I also like their cooperation and cleanliness; they put booties on when they come in the house.

They were efficient about scheduling and everything. What I didn't like was one other thing I wanted treated was the mosquitoes at the backyard because the mosquitoes were pretty bad all the season so I just needed help on that part. They were here for extermination and also prevention of pests.

They are responsive and the work they are doing has helped. They are also knowledgeable about their business.

I really liked them. They came when they said they were going to come. The technicians were very nice and they went out of their way to get the job done and took away the squirrel.

He seemed to be pretty thorough in his search but he didn’t find anything. We probably will be calling him to come back again. There wasn’t any charge. They gave us a quote for a couple of things like to take care of a problem but they didn’t find one. There was maintenance, protective and preventive type of program that was about $700 a year where they came quarterly. That seemed to be reasonable. But we haven’t talked to anybody else.
