We played phone tag and although I did not follow up on last call we never heard from them and contacted another firm. I don't want to give them a bad rating since we never had any contact with them, and I am sure they are a good company, but we would have appreciated a return call one way or another.

Jack and his crew were wonderful. Jack has extensive knowledge in all facets of bathroom remodeling. Our bathroom was taken down to the studs, and completely rebuilt. Since this is our only full bathroom, we were concerned about having the new bathtub functional in a very short period of time. As promised, Jack and his crew (Jason, Kevin and Keith) were able to have the tub and shower completed very quickly. They are very customer oriented. Throughout the project, Jack's knowledge and great suggestions made for a smooth bathroom renovation, resulting in our beautiful new bathroom. Jack is a true artist at woodworking. He devised the idea of picture framing the window and the result is amazing. They exceeded our expectations in the day to day execution of the work. At the conclusion of each day, Jack asked us to review the day's progress, and asked if we had any questions or feedback , communicating on a daily basis the next steps . They were very flexible. We had some minor changes which we requested while the work was in progress, and Jack and his crew were very accomodating about incorporating these changes. They cleaned up at the end of each day, and finished the project on time. The entire project went very well (electrical, plumbing, drywall/cement board, tiling, painting, carpentry).
Description of Work: Completely gutted and rebuilt our only full bathroom, including drywall, electrical, plumbing, tile work and installation of new ceramic floor, and all bathroom fixtures.

I was getting a washer and dryer delivered and had to move a gas line. The person came out and told me how to move the gas line. If I felt comfortable moving a gas line I wouldn't have called this company out. I ended up by using another company to move the gas line. Would I use this company again. I checked off "yes" in the box because they want you to put something down, but, it would depend on what I was calling this company out to do.

He was incredible! The price was so reasonable and he also had to run to Home Depot to get some things for the project and get brand new pipes. It was a very very positive experience, and someone I would recommend very highly! He was so informative and so helpful as well!
Description of Work: They put in a new sink and he fixed the toilet for me. He looked at a few other things that he may come back and fix as well.
The project went very well. Jack had a challenge because I wanted to get as much height as possible on the ceiling, but because of the way the duct work was installed in the dining room area, Jack could only raise the ceiling in the living room area. I did not want to have to remove and replace duct work. It would have been too costly. So Jack devised a way of sloping the higher part of the ceiling down to the lower part, and putting in an arch to make for a smoother transition from one section to the other! It's beautiful, and very unique! He also came up with a way to make our basement door blend in with the walls (so it's virtually invisible), with a magnetic close. Very creative! Jack is patient, too. I did add a few things to the scope of the project as we went along, but he was able to roll along with it. The project did take longer than expected. Jack is in high demand, and works on a few projects at a time, so, if you do hire him, be patient, (I have to admit, that is hard for me at times, since I get anxious for the job to be completed). The job may take longer than you expect, but, if you want the best, sometimes you have to wait. Now that the job is finished, I know it was worth the time it took. I will definitely call Jack again!
Description of Work: Jack is the best! Jack has done many projects for us in our home. I would not want to use anyone else. We wanted to remodel our very old living room/dining room area. Jack and his nephew, Keith, took down the old drop ceiling, removed all of the old paneling which was covered with old wallpaper, and prepared the ceiling and walls for sheetrock, installed sheetrock, recessed lighting, crown and baseboard moldings (beautiful), a new ceiling fan, removed the old carpet, installed engineered hardwood floors, designed and built the most beautiful built-in bookcases with base cabinets! (I printed photos from the internet of some built-ins that I liked, and he came up with the most beautiful design that looks perfect in our living room!); painted two different colors of our choosing,(well, actually three colors since the woodwork is Dove White), installed additional electrical outlets, and installed a vent-free gas fireplace. He tied the bookcases and fireplace together by installing crown and baseboard moldings around them! I love it! Jack is definitely a master carpenter! He is so talented with wood work and really takes pride in what he does. He's very detailed. I can't say enough good things about Jack Joyce. His nephew, Keith, is great also; very dependable and talented, and a very nice young man!

Jack repaired a broken pipe in our shower. He was very polite, professional, and trustworthy, and did everything that he said he was going to do. I've had terrible experiences where contractors don't return calls, don't come when they say they are going to come, or say they will call back and then don't. Jack was very straight-forward and clear and gave us all the information we needed up front. For example, when making the initial appointment we had a day selected but not a specific time. His wife who manages the scheduling said she would call with a specific time a couple days before he was to come over and that is exactly what happened. He always arrived on time and kept us informed on what he was doing and why. He is extremely knowledgable over a broad range of areas and finds the most cost effective way to fix the problem. We also have several cats and dogs and Jack was very respectful and comfortable around them. We have several more projects around the house that need to be done, and we plan on using Jack for these as well!
Description of Work: We had a huge leak in our upstairs bathroom that was causing buckets of water to leak through the second-level floor and through the kitchen ceiling below. Jack came to our house and diagnosed the problem as a leak caused by an uncoupled shower pipe. He was able to replace the section of the pipe that had become unattached and installed a new shower head and attachment in our shower. He also checked out the bath tub faucets which were leaking, and since all of the hardware and rings were intact he was able to just tighten them to stop the leak. In doing so, he was able to retain most of the original shower plumbing. Because our house is old and was remodeled poorly at one point, the shower plumbing in the back of the stall was not accessible. As a consequence, Jack had to expose a ~2 square foot section of sheetrock on the wall adjacent to the shower stall to access the plumbing. To put things in perspective, another plumber’s estimate we received to address the leak was $1250 and called for removal of at least 4-5 feet of the wall and a door frame that was in the way, installation of all new faucets and plumbing in the shower (since the brand was not manufactured anymore and was supposedly unserviceable), and covered only the cost of gaining access to the plumbing and its repair/replacement. After the leak would be fixed, we would be responsible for remodeling the wall and reinstalling the door frame and door. Jack’s approach was much more conservative, and for about half the cost he was able to fix the problem without the headache of removing the door frame. Jack repaired all the drywall in the shower and in the hallway and put a primer coat of paint on as well. Jack also informed us of 2 places that still carry replacement parts for our plumbing in case they were ever needed. It is important to note that this isn’t our dream home and we are hoping to move in a couple of years. We were not looking to remodel our bathroom at this point in time, we simply wanted to fix a leak and be able to use the shower. Jack allowed us to accomplish this and in a very flexible manner.

When I first called I should have known this was not a very professional business. The woman who answered the phone just said hello and I thought I had the wrong number after figuring out it was the wife we set an appointment for a date and she said she would call back with a time. She called 2 days before and left a message I returned her call the next evening and said the time was fine. On the day of the appointment she called and said because she didn't hear from she didn't put me on the schedule. I told her I called and she said well it was too late, so they would have to reschedule for sometime in March a month away. Jack needs to hire a secretary with people skills, because it's not a good first impression talking and dealing with his wife.

Again I am sorry we could not accommodate this customer. But we did everything we said we would. Member was told in advance when our next scheduled appointment for an estimate was and still agreed to set an appointment with us. She was told that she would be called 2 days in advance to give her an appointmnet time, and that she would need to confirm the appointment or we would not place her on the schedule for the agreed upon date. Member recieved her call on the Friday morning before her scheduled Sunday appointment as well as the other 6 clients for that day. Everyone but Member called back to confirm either on Friday evening or first thing on Saturday morning. To make things even more frustrating, Member finally called and confirmed her appointment on Saturday evening a 6:44 pm as her message is still on my voice mail as I write this response. Unfortunatelly, my wife tries to complete my schedule by 12 noon on Saturday. this way we can have sometime personal free time for ourselves since i work Monday thru Friday, and spend Sunday's visiting customers to review projects and gather information to prepare estimates which i write on weekday evenings after i finish my day. I think Member should take some responsibility for the cancelled appointment since she did not have the courtesy to respond in a timely manner. Also Member was given a call by 8:30 am on the day of her appointment to let her know we recieved her confirmation to late to put her on the schedule, so she would not be waiting around for me to come. My wife was trying to be considerate of Member time even though Member was not considerate of our time. I hope she finds a contractor she can be satisfied with and maybe show more consideration in the effort it takes to maintain scheduling so all customers are treated fairly and respectfully. Thank you, Jack Joyce Owner Jack of all Trades Handyman Services LLC.

I called Jack in August; he came for an estimate a few weeks later, but didn't begin work until December. He is very busy, but very responsive, returning calls and arranging appointments when needed. His wife, Fran, handles much of the appointment dates. Jack was accomodating, coming to my house around my schedule. He completed all the repairs in two days. He repaired and replaced two sets of deck steps and some rotted boards. He prepared my deck for staining and stained the deck. He replaced a piece of siding. He fixed three doors and a threshold. And, he repaired a leaking gutter. He was professional and prompt, neat and clean, and explained everything. I had a problem with one repair, my gutter, but he returned to repair it recently. Jack knows his business and knows much about home repairs. The one criticism I had was the time between making an arrangement for a visit (August) and beginning the work (December). He is just sooo busy!

I sent Jack a very detailed email on what type of work I needed done, but his response was, "Call my wife to schedule an appointment." This lead me to believe that he had read my email and could do the work I needed. After trading voicemails with is wife for almost a week, I finally spoke with her to schedule an appointment, only to be told that Jack does not do that kind of work. Seems to me that the more professional thing to do would have been to responded that way in his original email response, saving me time and aggravation. Jack is clearly not the handyman he claims to be. Lesson learned.

I was surprised that he started to mask & drape the windows with plastic, and cover the entire floors & hallways upstairs in the two bedrooms and hallway with plastic. I then found out why as he began to use a sprayer to paint with,(mind you he said he does not use one). That took a good part of the entire day to just mask off the woodwork, cover the floors, and furniture and when he finished the sprayer left a fine layer of mist that attached itself to the dining room table downstairs which he did not see and we had to clean. I believe he would have continued to use the sprayer the next day but I told him about the mess and he stated they would use a roller to continue. The painting continued the rest of the first week and into the next. I kept noticing roller marks on the ceiling in the living room and all the other rooms downstairs, Jack also was aware of these and said we will give it another coat of paint and see how it looks. Well the roller marks still remained and are there to this day. The surprising factor is that jack knew they were there and continued to the next rooms also leaving roller marks and never again addressing them with me. The last room to finish was the TV room and that was the worst of them all as far as paint not applied and or missing paint on the walls. (It should be said that for most of the second week I was not at home and at work during the day). When I got home that Friday of the second week Jack stated they had finished the painting and the flooring (I had asked him to install a floor covering on the utility room that was concrete, that job he did was fine no complaints). Jack said he would email me a bill paid in full over the weekend. He was also to replace a curtain pulley he damaged on the living room curtains which he forgot. I then took a closer look at the TV room and noticed a lot of skipped small areas with no paint, obvious nail pops that he said he would fix along the way which were not done in this room. I then took a photograph of a section of the dining room wall that was obvious had no paint and I sent an email to Jack with that photo, and told him that I was disappointed with parts of this paint job. I now have some doubts as to wether some of my walls even received two coats of paint, if he did apply two coats how do you miss the same spot on the same wall twice in a row. I told Jack in the email that I took care of painting over his mistakes and to just send me the curtain pulley and I would install it myself. I just did not want him back to my house, that's how frustrated and disappointed I was. It's been two weeks since I sent Jack that email to which he never acknowledged or responded to, the curtain pulley is still broken, and I have not received my paid in full bill as promised. I am very disappointed in Jack mostly because of the paint work and also in his non-response to my email I thought he was more the professional, it appears that I was wrong. I do believe that Jack's skill is in construction type work, kitchens, baths, remodeling , etc but not painting.
Description of Work: When I originally spoke to Jack about painting the interior of my house it was after he completed a small wall repair in one of the bedrooms which he did ok and I was satisfied. He told me when he paints he does not use a sprayer like some painters do but puts on two coats of paint with rollers, (which I would prefer anyway). I told him I would contact him when I was ready to paint.I called in the beginning of August and we set up an appointment, he came out and quoted the price to paint the interior of my house. I told him to start when he could which was Monday August 27, 2012. He was to paint the entire inside of my house with two coats of paint. I requested Behr Premium Ultra and told him to match the existing color. He did that and began the job.

The member hired me to repair a ceiling in one of his bedrooms which had water damage. We completed this repair to his satisfaction as can be determined by his prior review on Angie’s List. During that time he asked about painting the rest of his home, I gave him a verbal quote and told him to contact me if he deiced to have me do the work. He later called and scheduled the work. I had scheduled this project for the end of August which was convenient for both him and me. The interior of his home was painted an ultra flat color (walls, ceilings, and trim all the same color). He requested I match the paint but to finish it this time in a satin finish. Being he was to begin work on the following Tuesday, it was faster and more efficient to spray the interior of his home (approximately 4000 sq.ft.) not including ceilings. I decided to begin with the second floor, I had masked all areas not to be painted as stated by him. At the end of the day after I had removed the masking and was cleaning up I walked through the upstairs with the member and showed him the completed areas. I told him to look them over and if he had any questions or concerns to please let me know in the morning, he told me there was a fine mist of dry overspray on the dining room furniture, I surmised that during the spraying operation the plastic sheeting masking the downstairs came loose at one of the edges and consequently allowed a dry mist of overspray to find its way into the dining room which was at the bottom of the stairs. I did not see the overspray because he told me he had already wiped it off. Seeing he was concerned, I told him I would use a roller on the rest of the home. The next day I asked him if he had any questions or concerns about the work already performed, he said he had none at this point. I started to paint the living room, I had masked off all the areas not to be painted, removed all electrical outlet and switch plates, and window treatments (hence the broken pulley for the blinds. Which I had informed him about). I had applied two coats of paint to all areas of the room. At the end of the day during clean up I spoke with him, and again asked if he had any questions or concerns, told him to look over the completed area so I could address them before I start the next morning. The next morning I spoke with the member and he said he had no concerns; however I noticed a uneven texture in the ceiling and told him I would apply another coat of paint to the ceiling in the living room. Again I masked all the areas in the dining area not to be painted and applied 2 coats of paint in the dining room and a third coat to the ceiling of the living room, this was done at the end of the third day. Again during cleanup I had asked him if he had and questions or concerns about the work already performed and he said no. At the beginning of the fourth day I asked if there were and questions or concerns about the previous work and was told that there were none. I had proceeded to mask the kitchen area to be painted starting in the cooking area so it would be useable by the end of the day. All area not to be painted was masked just like every other room (whether sprayed or rolled). I applied 2 coats of paint to the eating area, during cleanup I again asked him if he had and questions or concerns about the work performed and he had none, however during the unmasking I had pulled some paint of the wall behind where the refrigerator is located, (masking tape must have been on wall area where protecting the cabinet), he was made aware of this and I told him I would repair it tomorrow when I paint the Eating area of the kitchen. On the fifth day (Friday of the first week) I again asked him if he had any questions or concerns he said he had none. I proceeded to paint the eating area as I had done the other areas. At the end of the day I spoke with him and asked if he had any questions or concerns he said no and provided me with a payment of one third of the overall price of the project. I began work on Tuesday the following week due to the labor day holiday. He started work this week, so he was not there when I arrived. I called him on his cell phone, asked if he had any concerns that needed to be addressed and he replied “no”, he let us in his home remotely through the garage. I began with the stairway leading down to the lower level and prime and paint the utility room (this room was painted at no cost to him, I was to only prime the unprimed walls and install a floating vinyl floor). I removed all the railing and vent covers, light switch covers as done in all the previous rooms. I had waited for the member to return from work (3:30 – 4:00) and went over the work as I had done all throughout this project. On the next day I installed the utility room floor, masked the areas not to be painted in the lower level corridor and applied 2 coats of paint to this area, I cleaned up and waited for him to return from work, discussed the days progress, asked about any concerns and then left. On Thursday of the second week, I called him to let him know I had arrived, asked if there were any concerns to be addressed and he replied “no” and again let me in remotely through the garage. I masked the lower level family room as was done with every other room, I applied 1 coat of paint to the walls, then installed the baseboard trim in the utility room. I waited for him to return from work, ask about questions and concerns and again he said he had none. I told him we would apply the final coat of paint in the lower level family room on Friday, and that we left the room masked off so we did not have to repeat the process again. On the last day of the project, I called the member, asked about concerns and he said he had none. He again let me in remotely through the garage. I applied the final coat of paint to the family room, cleaned up the area and waited for him to return from work. We went over the project. I asked again if he had any concerns and he said no and provided me with the final payment of the project. In conclusion; the member had every opportunity to address any issues or concerns with the project during the two week period I was there. As for the roller marks he says are in the ceiling I had explained to him that it is the texture in the ceiling from prior paint work, never noticeable because of the ultra flat finish and that the satin finish had a tendency to show more defects in the walls and ceiling. I had applied three coats of paint and four in some area of the living room ceiling. I was able to remove some of the defects with the added layers of paint. He never attempted to contact me to address these concerns, other than posting an unsatisfied rating on Angie’s List. He has the company email address, the office phone number as well as my cell phone. He states he has taken care of the problem areas so there is no way I can review the items he is pertaining to, allowing me no course of action to rectify any issues or problems. I try very hard to make sure all my customers are satisfied, and I do this with every customer. I review the work completed for each day and ask if there are any concerns the next day before starting any new task for the project. I believe if you contact my customers, they will also state that this is how I perform my work. The member did contact me on September 9th asking about his curtain pulley. In which I had responded that I had forgotten to pick one up and that I would do so and drop it off to him. After attempting to find a pulley, I emailed him asking him if he could take the pulley to a local store and see if they could match it up, and then send me the invoice for reimbursement. This email also contained a copy of his final invoice.

I spent way too much. He was here the better part of the day and it cost me $700. I was the one that had to run to the store while he worked on the floor. I got the screen material he needed; he didn’t come prepared for that because he wasn’t sure what we needed even though I had told the main person. I did that legwork to cut down on cost; they put the work together. He was very good and very patient. They started out with a lower rate for the first three hours and then the last three hours it jumped up to $65 an hour. I thought that was outrageous. The pricing was a little high. They could have been a little lower, especially in these times. When they knew it was going to be all those hours, they could have charged less. I would use them again in the future but I would probably wrestle a little bit with pricing.
Description of Work: I used Jack of All Trades Handyman Services. They put screens in six of my windows and they repaired a hardwood floor.

Jack Joyce gave us a detailed estimate and thoroughly explained everything he would do, including the reasoning behind each task. He answered all of our many questions. During the project he ended each day with a walk-through of the work accomplished and informed us of what would take place the next day. They cleaned up well before they left each day. Jack, Keith and Chris did an outstanding job. Probably the most unexpected thing was that he thought about our needs and structured the job so that we never really lost the use of our stove, refrigerator or sink during the entire project, saving us money on eating out. Jack also provided very good recommendations for the cabinetry and back splash tiles, including help with the design. This also saved us money. The most impressive part of the job involved moving our stove from a wall to a corner and building a diagonal partition behind it, which he then readjusted when the cabinets proved to be wider than expected. This also involved moving the gas line. Additionally he installed a new dishwasher and the needed plumbing. He happily went above and beyond the work agreed upon which included refurbishing our pantry, complete with new doors and shelving, installing an outdoor lighting fixture on the back of the house, and repairing a plumbing problem in our basement. Indicative of his work ethic was how well he completed each detail of the job, even in areas that will never be seen, such as the electrical outlet cutout behind the stove, and extra tile work that gave the project a refined and finished look. In fact all of the tile work was impressively detailed and symmetrical. We are extremely pleased with the final look of our kitchen. We smile every time we walk into that room. A big part of that is because of the wonderful working relationship we had with Jack. We highly recommend him and look forward to working with him again on future projects.
Description of Work: This was a full kitchen remodeling job requiring complete demolition and installation of new insulation, walls, ceiling, flooring, lighting, electrical, plumbing and cabinetry.
I was satisfied with the project from start to completion. Jack would provide daily progress reports by outlining what was the focus of the day - he ended his work day by showing me what had been accomplished. Jack was prompt but when he was running late or unable to keep to his schedule his wife would call to provide an explanation - that was greatly appreciated. Additionally, we have small children and Jack respected our daily routines.
Description of Work: Jack completely remodeled my third and second floor hallways. He installed new stairs, bannisters, flooring, a security door, storm door on the third floor, two ceiling fans one on the third floor, one on the second floor, and extra lighting.
