Mr. Handyman of N Monmouth and E Middlesex Counties

Terrific experience! I set up the appointment a couple of weeks before Hurricane Sandy arrived, and I was concerned that they might need to reschedule given all the repair work their customers probably needed related to the storm, but they still came. I got a call a few days before the appointment to confirm and Rob showed up exactly on time on the date scheduled. He whipped through my project list and did excellent work! The ballusters he replaced were in a staircase that's 118 years old, so the wood is dry and a little brittle. One of the spindles was moved from a less visible portion of the staircase to fill a gap in a highly visible area, and it was too short for the space so Rob cut scrap wood to add to the top and bottom to lengthen the spindle and make it fit - it's not the right color so he left me some scrap that I can use to test stains before I touch it up. (Having a new spindle made would cost me over $700 so Rob's craftsmanship here saved me a lot!) The company is very professional and I plan to have them back in a few months when I add cabinets to my laundry room.

They arrived on time as promised. Ready to work. Changing the light bulb proved to be more then just changing the bulb. After numerous tries - they determined the problem was the can in the ceiling. Which they did fix and then changed the bulb. When he finished powerwashing the fence, he did other areas that needed powerwashing as well. While they were here they pointed out another item that I needed fixing. I had them check my attic to see about insulation and finishing it. They were very honest, that they would do it, but it would cost and I really would get no use out the attic, as it is such a small area. This was greatly appreciated, as they could have just done the work and when it was done - I would find out I didn't really get the most out of it.

We contacted Mr. Handyman and spoke with the owners of the company who were more than willing to work around my hectic schedule. On the day of the repair, John arrived and went over the work that was to be completed with me. Once started he whipped through the projects and was very quiet in doing so. I can safely say we will be using this service in the future.

The handyman was on time and acted in a professional manner. He used oxy clean and a power washer to get rid of the mold. The job took less than an hour and a half so he also power washed the bricks on my front steps. I was very satisfied with the work done and would definitely us them again if I needed another handyman.

When he came into the house, he put on covers on his feet. He also did a very beautiful job.

I needed a piece of siding nailed back up near the peak of the house. I called to see if they could do the job that week since we were leaving for vacation on Saturday. They said they were booked, but if it was ok, they may be able to get someone out late afternoon one day. They were able to come and did the job late afternoon as promised.

Overall I was very happy with the job and the deck turned out great. However I wish the pricing was a bit more reasonable.

Got a good response over the phone and the man sent to the house was on time.He did a good job powerwashing the house and deck but left all the debris from the gutters all over the yard and some of my plants suffered from the process. I had to sweep the front walkway and driveway after he left.The other jobs that he did were done satisfactorily.He was at my home all day and I thought $900 was a little steep for the work that was done.

I need someone to come out and measure for the job and give me a price. They will not do this.

Well, John from Mr. Handyman has been back for two more jobs after completing repairs to our deck. Steve (owner) came once to assist with a trickier project (removal of a mirror). These guys are awesome! On time, responsive and work with you to get jobs done when you need them done. I imagine we will have additional work over the next few months - without hesitation I will call Mr. Handyman and request John. On time, professional, and they listen to what it is you want to have done. After the deck was repaired I noticed one wobbly step - I didn't want to call to"complain" but I wanted it done right. I wasn't made to feel bad, John fixed it the following morning. That's why I called them again for two more jobs - with no further need to ask them to come back. They do the job, and they do it right. This company, and John stand behind their work. I appreciate that. I highly recommend Mr. Handyman of Monmouth County and I have one friend that has already called them to complete some work they need done. THANKS!8

Just wanted to give a credit to the Handyman service. The owner followed up on the job performance and offered a follow up service to address my dissatisfaction. As a result, the technician stopped by and the door looks much better now. Positive - came on time and were responsive to the phone calls. Negative - the final cost came out higher than expected. They charge for the total time spend and that came out twice more compare to other estimates I got from people from Angie's list that came over to give estimate in person. Because I was spending more that I was planning for, I did not want to bring the split in the wood that came as a result of driving screw too hard.

I would use them again in the future.

Beautifully! I had a bunch of small repairs that I had let go for a few years so decided to finally take care of them! Steve arrived promptly at 8 AM and was done by 10:30. He worked quickly yet thoroughly. I absolutely recommend him, and plan on calling again. Did I have a nice Valentine's Day? Yes, my living room and family room mirrors are finally up! My bathroom caulking is done! What more could a girl ask for? :o)

Perfect. Kitchen floor was actually one inch higher from one corner to the opposing corner. As a result, the install took an extra half day but in the end ....WOW!!!!! Also the crown moulding on top looks GREAT! Steve, the owner, is the gold standard for communication. He said the work was going to start at 8AM. One of the installers had to stop on his way to pick something up. Steve called me to let me know the guy (Rob) was going to be 15 minutes late. Of course Rob being late (turned out to be about 5 minutes) was a non-issue to me. I was just surprised to hear from the owner about a mere 15 minutes. The guys work neatly and quickly. Great clean-up at the end of the day. I ended up calling Steve to have Rob come back the next day to install my new dishwasher, over the stove microwave, faucet, garbage disposer and finish up the drain plumbing under the sink. Could have done this myself but it took him barely 3 hours to do all this and the end result....compared to what it may have looked like had I done this... I am very pleased.

Called Mr.Handyman for some work, spoke to Steve who indicated that he would come by the following Monday to look at what I needed. Never came by, never called. I've had them do work for me in the past and never had a problem. Not sure what the issue was. Update 02/01/2012: Steve did call me on 01/30 and apologize for an oversight that once we discussed it, made complete sense. I give Steve credit for getting back to me and communicating the scheduling confusion. Like I noted above and have on a previous review, Mr.Handyman was probably the better contractor experiences I have had in the past few years and was glad Steve made the effort to discuss with me.

All the work performed was very satisying - handymen arrived on-time, was quite professional explaining the bill/charges, etc. And then immediately started working after getting information on the work that needs to be performed. While changing faucets, he noticed that sink was leaking and so I got new ones and then he immediately replaced sinks. That was really good of him as this could've been future trouble for me that is now avoided. The price was nominal compared to others in the area and personally felt I got lot accomplished. I was gathering bunch of things to-do for awhile and it got done.

purchased laminate flooring from local big box store.Paid measuring fee of 37.50 Intended to Use stores installation service.Research indicated I would be dealing with several companies the store,the measuring service,the delivery company and the installer. The estimate clearly stated that since there was existing carpet the installation fee was subject to additional cost if deemed necessary by the installation crew.The gentlemen from the measuring company commented he only got $12.00 per house to measure.That comment made me concerned. Mr handyman provided a price which was somewhat higher than the big box,having used Mr handyman before I know they are a premium service. (you get what you pay for ). Mark from Mr Handyman showed up on time installed 2rooms of laminate was polite and neat. I am very pleased with the service provided and will use them again. Greg F Freehold NJ

I've used this company twice and both times they were great. Steve was very responsive and resolved my siding issues with no hassle. I would use them again.

I contacted this company via Angie's List email. They were relatively quick to reply. One of the colleagues explained the pricing, however I had a few more questions. The owner was out of the office but was to return my phone call as soon as he was back. Within 2 days he did. Because I contacted him via Angie's List he said he could come out and look at the damage I had for free, however I had decided to go with another company at this point because he alredy explained how the hourly pricing worked. He was very easy to talk with and seemed knowledgeable in the work that would need to be performed. I would consider using this company for other work if a different pricing could be negotiated or for different work performed.

It was like a franchise. My husband doesn’t like that. They were punctual. Their communication was good. They pointed out some things, the type of things that they did which brought things in line, which I thought was a good idea. They seemed to be fair and reasonable on the pricing. They were different; they charged by the hour rather than by the actual way. I think the circumstances would bump up the price. That left a feeling of me being unsure, on how accurate an estimate would be. They were professional but they wouldn’t be able to give the details like the professionals who would be doing the work s they were franchisees. Some questions were left unanswered because they didn’t have the professional knowledge to answer the questions properly. I wouldn’t consider them for a quote in the future.

OVERALL I RATE THIS AS AN A-PLUS. I AM ALSO GLAD THEY ARE A LOCAL COMPANY KEN K.

Spoke with Donna who was very pleasant. Steve called a short while later and we set up a time for him to evaluate what I needed done. I had a large list so we started from the top of the house and worked our way down. (The above list is only part of what we discussed.) I was impressed with what he presented and we made an appointment to get the work started. A few days later Steve and Mark, the technician who would be doing the work, showed up with the materials needed for the molding and the door. They reviewed everything that was going to be done. Mark set up his saw outside for all the cutting(thank goodness it was a nice day) And so from 8:30am to 5pm Mark did his thing. When everything was done he asked me to come and check everything out and I have to say I was quite pleased with the results. The molding was fantastic, the door looked great and the light was in place. After Mark left I went upstairs to clean up but I didn't have to -- he did a better job than I would have. Note: the $ spent includes $488 of materials. This was a good experience -- everyone was professional and courteous. I was comfortable with leaving the house when I had to run some errands. And yes they will be coming back -- I have more items on my "To Do" list.

They did a great job. I only had to spend a very small amount. They had actually done me a favor. They said they might not be able to fix the leak, but they said they would still try to see if they could do it without having to rip the roof off. The work did not fix the leak, but they did what needed to be done. They are not the cheapest people, and their labor is expensive. They put booties on when they came into the house and also cleaned up after themselves. They are really good people. The owner definitely knows how to talk to people and put them at ease. He made sure that they did exactly what they said they were going to do. He called me every morning to tell me whether he would be coming or not. He was just great.

I would like to thank the staff of Mr. Handyman NE Monmouth County for making my home improvement project a good experience. My first contact at Mr. Handyman was with Donna. With a happy voice, she is the one that knows what is going on, when things will happen and she makes sure things get done. THANK YOU Donna. Steve was the one who listened to what I wanted to have done. He quickly and politely understood exactly what I wanted to do. He offered some good suggestions on how to get the job done quickly. He listened to me. He did not try to tell me how the job should be done. I was impressed. Mark the tech arrived at my house when Donna said he would. He knew exactly what had to be accomplished and started the job immediately. He was courteous, clean and his work was very professional. The only problem was that I think the price is a little high. However, I feel I can live with it because they did exactly what they said they were going to do. There were no surprises. I highly recommend Mr. Handyman. The cost is worth having work done by professionals.

Went rather smoothly, the entire job took 1.5hrs. With times being tough on everyone & money hardest of all to hold onto, you'd think or hope that services would lower prices in order to attract more people. Seems they're not making any adjustment & charge as usual. Something needs to change on everyones part.
