Wilber Painting did two separate interior painting jobs at our residence. They did a very good job at a great price. The people were very easy to work with. Both estimates were on the mark . It was easy to schedule the actual work dates. They were neat. They did a great job cleaning up at the end of the day and when the job was finished. The Estimator and the Painting Crew were very professional. We were very happy with them and expect to use them in the future.

I used them just once. They were very professional. The work that they did was fantastic. They cleaned up every day after themselves. I was very pleased with their overall product. I would like to grade them highly across the board on everything.
Description of Work: I used the services of Wilber's Painting in October 2011. They painted the entire exterior of my house and the basement.

Overall, it went great! I would definitely recommend wilber's and i will call them again when we're ready to have shelves built in. The lead painter, William, worked so well with me- he would give me advice (ONLY when I asked for his help)- and he gave great advice. The carpenters were a delight- also worked so well with me on everything, and every time I asked them to do one more thing they were always happy to help. Everyone in our home was professional and really a pleasure to work with- just really good people doing a really good job! Our house is shockingly transformed- everyone who has seen the before and after cant believe the difference...what used to be a dizzy-ing assault on the senses has become a classy, pretty, calm space.
Description of Work: we moved into the world's ugliest house-every surface in it had to be stripped out and redone..wallpaper taken down, REALLY ugly dark orange paint, purple paint, popcorn ceilings and a layer of tobacco (previous owners heavy smokers) on everything, ALL woodwork and crown molding removed and replaced, all doors removed and replaced, kitchen cabinets repainted. as the job progressed i kept finding things that i had missed in the walk-through when we did estimates- but the guys were willing to take on everything I threw at them. for example, i originally didn't want the dinning room done bc it was less offensive aesthetically than the rest of t he house- but when they started work and the transformation was so dramatic, i asked them to do the dining room- they said no problem. every room in our house had to be painted and have all woodwork replaced- it was a huge job, and i'm picky! but they all worked hard and clearly wanted me to be happy with the work they did-and when there were things i wanted redone for whatever reason, they always did them, and happily. "the guys", as our two-year-old son called them, were at our house for a long time- and they could not have been nicer. they were always VERY professional and very polite and kind and really a joy to have in our home- our son talked about them all the time- they were so sweet to him. i should also mention that bc our house was so ugly and beat-up it was actually really hard to see the potential that it had- i felt like some of the people i called for estimates were overwhelmed by the enormous task, and that they didn't share my vision for how the space *could* look. Chris (did the estimates for painting) and Victor (did the estimates for carpentry) both understood my vision and they helped me realize it. we spent a lot of money, but it was a great value. we had some custom carpentry done-a banquette built in, radiator covers built, banisters indoors and for our back porch- and all of it came out great.

Have used Wilbur's for several projects and they have always exceeded our expectations. Wilbur is always prompt when arriving for estimates, and crew as well once the job begins. Eric and his crew are always courteous and do an excellent job preparing and cleaning up. I have used several local Painting contractors, but find that Wilbur and his team are consistently excellent. Highly recommend!!!!!

Mr. Wilber Vargas and Mr. Victor responded to give initial estimates for the painting and carpentry work respectively. I was immediately impressed by their outstanding knowledge of the work and their calm and professional demeanor inspired my confidence. I hired them after receiving three other competitive estimates and I am so glad that I did. Both the carpentry and the painting crews have a work ethic that is unparallelled. They really paid attention to the details and really brought this old house back to life. I was particularly impressed by their rebuild of the Yankee gutter system and that they managed to find exact matches for the cedar shingles and moldings that were used on a house of this age. They are indeed true artisans. Speaking of the Yankee gutter system, I had to hire a separate roofing contractor to re-line the gutters and attend to some roofing and drainage issues. I wish Mr. Wilber could expand his business to include roofing too. Anyway, there was a delay in the roofer starting their portion of the project because of rainy weather. As fate would have it, we had received a lot of rain and some of the newly painted areas were stained. After the roofer completed his job, I asked Mr. Wilber to return and give me an estimate for a touch up, but he instead sent his crew to touch up those stained areas without charge. I am indeed grateful. The house stands three stories at nearly 50 feet tall and was a really big job. But Wilber's crew was so efficient that they made the work look easy. I imagine that no job is too big for them. I highly recommend Wilber's Painting and Carpentry without reservation. The attached before, during and after pictures speak for themselves. Hire Wilber, especially if you have an older home...you will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: I contracted Wilber's Painting to do exterior carpentry repairs and painting to my home. The carpentry repairs were as follows: Remove/Replace water damaged ceiling on the front 1st floor porch. Replace 8 feet of soffit, fascia board and crown molding on right side of 1st floor porch. Replace soffits, fascia boards and crown moldings on both sides of the front 2nd floor balcony. Install two boxes of cedar wood shingles on the 2nd floor balcony. Replace plywood on bottom of first floor porch. Replace 10 feet of colonial crown molding and install 6 feet of drip cap on right side of house. Install pre-hung door on rear of house. Install new metal awning over back door of house. Replace about 60 feet of wood siding on left side of house. Install 4 feet of colonial crown molding on left side of house. Install one box of cedar wood shingles on left side of house. Replace 8 feet of soffit and fascia board on left side of 1st floor porch. Repair 3 feet of hardwood floor on front 1st floor porch. Repair water damaged area of ceiling on the 2nd floor porch and replace colonial crown moldings. Replace window sill plates and repair window cross heads. Install new door trim on rear door of house. Material to use: Pine woods. Painting work details are as follows: The areas painted were - siding, trim, windows, soffits, fascia boards and foundation including exposed windows, basement windows, porch floor, porch ceiling, doors, gutters and leaders, and metal railings. Preparation included scraping and sanding all areas to remove old failing paint. Front, left, right and rear surfaces and porch floor were striped to 95% of bare wood. Porch ceilings were stripped to 35% of bare wood. Spindles and columns were stripped to 90% of bare wood. Further preparation included caulking and puttying areas as necessary and replacing any failing window glazing. Corners were removed where siding meets trim. Priming: siding - 2 coats; trim 1 coat; windows 1 coat using oil primer applied with a brush or roller. The foundation received 1 coat of latex primer. Finishing paint: siding - 2 coats; trim 1 coat; windows 1 coat and foundation 1 coat using Benjamin Moore latex paints

Communication was spotty in the beginning, as we had to continue to postpone the job due to Hurricane Irene damage. But once we agreed upon a start date, the process went very smoothly, and even though we 'cut corners' by spot sanding (as opposed to sandblasting the entire home), the paint job was very good overall, and seems very durable already, having survived a brutal and unusual October snow storm. Overall, excellent company and quality, with very fair pricing. Probably not the cheapest (Rutgers might be that), but I always say you get what you pay for! Highly recommend Wilbers.

Wilber's Painting did a wonderful job painting the outside of my house. I have nothing but praise for the work that was done. They were very reliable, responsible, very professional and they did my house all the way down to the wood. They did a beautiful job. Wilber is very nice and easy to deal with. They are very responsive to phone calls.

Wilber's started the job earlier than originally promised. Beyond "just painting," the close-in detail and edge painting was superior! They are highly responsive and a pleasure to work with. After the two jobs they have done for us, we continue to recommend them.

This is still a work in progress. My ratings reflect the current state of the job and my current assessment. I am hoping that all my concerns are mitigated by the time the work is final. I have significantly updated my review to reflect the current state of the project. After 90% of the house was painted, many problems remained. I initiated my review of Wilber's Painting on Angie's List and notified the company of my concerns. Wilber took my concerns personally and very seriously. As he explained, he would rather earn less profit on a house providing excellent results than take the money and run. Clearly this demonstrates his understanding that his business is only as good as his least satisfied customer and he was willing to ensure our satisfaction to maintain his reputation. I am very pleased with the extent to which Wilber has instructed his crew to satisfy our concerns. To that end, the crew worked the full weekend to undo some of the shortcuts that were taken, and to reapply new coats of primer across significant portions of the house where wood stain bled through. Many new shingles that were replaced and painted had to be re-sanded to match the other shingles, then primed and painted again. Per the contract, the soffits were to be 90% sanded, though the painters originally painted over the existing paint. The chipped paint below the surface were still visible after they said the work was "complete." Wilber had the crew remove all the applied paint plus the original paint to meet the original contractual obligation. I am quite sure this adds cost and inconvenience to the project but we wanted to make sure the job was done right. Wilbers Painting: Review: The estimate was expensive, but it included a lot of additional work that other companies didn't offer. The estimate said that 95% of the house would be sanded to bare wood and 90% of the soffits as well. Once bare, the house would be given 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of Duration paint, which should last at least 10 years. I was shown pictures of the process and told that all aspects (from prep to cleanup) would be completed with no concerns. The list of references was extensive. Many people raved about the work, the price and the effort from the crew ("going above and beyond") what was expected. I was excited for them to start. Coordinating the schedule was tricky. There were many rain delays in August and September and when I'd call the office, they seemed to have arbitrary start dates that they never confirmed with me. Also, they barely even TRIED to pronounce my name correctly. It's really not a tricky name, and I know that it may look intimidating for a moment, but they were wrong by a few vowels, some consonants and missing a syllable. After some delays due to weather and working around other carpentry, a crew began the work. Neighbors were impressed with the extent of prep that was completed - many of them assuming we were returning the house to bare cedar shingles for a more natural look. Instead, they saw the home transform from old, chipped lead paint to be reborn with bright new colors. When 90% of the home was completed, the painters had to stop to wait for the other carpentry (performed by a different company) to be completed before they could finish. Mostly, there was a limited amount of clapboard above a new porch roof that needed priming and painting. During this time, I had a week to look at the job they did. Most of it was good, not great, and some of it really required additional attention. I had mentioned a few of the aesthetic items to the project foreman (the replacement shingles had a visible texture difference from the existing shingles) and he seemed to suggest that was normal and expected. Nonetheless, I wasn't pleased. After several days of rain, other shingles were bleeding through the paint. We had some other concerns that we posted to Angie's list as well. I called Wilber and asked him to personally address them. Wilber stopped by unannounced one afternoon and patiently waited for me to come home. He did his own walk around the home and made notes, then told me what he saw when I walked with him. For all points, he agreed with me and took my side. Two days later, he arrived with the foreman and showed him the same. I chalk some of the problems up to miscommunication, others to high expectations. When Wilber sold me on his company, I was led to believe I should expect the best quality. The work that was provided was something less. Since my contact with him, Wilber has followed up on separate occasions to check my availability on Sunday so the crew could ask questions, and to recommend a different finish for the paint. His hands-on approach is helpful and comforting, as he clearly is in touch with the correlation between customer relations and his reputation. He nurtures each to drive up satisfaction. I am pleased that Angie's List provided a forum for my concerns to be noted and shared, to what I now expect to be positive experience. At the end of the day, I'm happy to pay for quality and thrilled to share a positive outcome with someone else. My goal is to receive the quality of service that allows me to recommend Wilber's Painting without hesitation, and to want to use them again myself for other projects. It seems that my initial experience was unfortunate and rare for Wilber's Painting, and I will be happy to remember only the positive results once all is said and done. I am thankful to Wilber Vargas for taking an active role in my project based on my review and look forward to the completion of our project.

My wife called and emailed Wilbur Painting, having talked to a friendly workman on a nearby Wilbur Painting job. The company responded promptly and sent over a person for an estimate. We were impressed by their presentation (including Angie?s List recommendations) and were told that they would prepare an estimate in a few days. We never heard from them again. They did not return calls or emails. Nothing. Our home is a turn of the century historic mansion - ten bedrooms, nine fireplaces. The initial project was to remove wallpaper and paint a kitchen, mud room, sitting area, etc. but we made it clear that we needed a lot more work done. Our address is Orange, NJ although we are on the South Orange/Orange border. South Orange is upscale, Orange is not.The painters that my wife talked to were on a job in South Orange. Does Wilbur's discriminate against Orange residents? We have since found excellent contractors for our projects but we still cannot figure out why we would be treated like this by Wilbur Painting. It is one thing to have a contractor decline a job, quite another to blow off a potential client in this manner. Use caution when dealing with these people.

He quoted me one price for inside and outside and then changed price after just the inside was done. Refused to honor his quote. He also had painted my deck outside the year before and lots of paint had peeled off. He had to be called constantly to live up to his word to re do it. The painters painted my doors shut and after I complained that the doors were so bad he sent someone over who shaved them so badly there are doors that do not close at all now. I had paid for hardware to be put back on and he did not do this. I had used Wilber's painting before and they were great which is why I went back to them. Whatever happened this time was a true NIGHTMARE and Wiber knew all about it. After all he is the one in charge and he refused to honor our agreement. My problem was I trusted him. I will always get something in writing from now on. I called him about the doors being ruined and he has never returned a call about that yet. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

Their work is great and they do a terrific job of keeping your place neat and tidy. There was not a drop of paint or scratch on the hardwood floors. I still had a few items attached to the walls - hooks, shelves, etc and they did not have a problem with taking everything down, patching it up and painting it over. They were very agreeable and I was very happy with my experience with them and very satisfied with their work. There was a small area that I did notice where it seems the spackle might have still been wet underneath so the paint cracked. I did let Wilber know and he was very quick to apologize and offered to come back to fix it. When I told him that it wasn't really necessary, he told me if I changed my mind that I could always let him know and he'd be happy to come back out. I would use them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: I was putting my condo on the market and needed everything repainted in a neutral color. My condo is approx. 900 sq. feet with a living room, dining room, kitchen, 1 full bathroom, and 1 bedroom. Every room was painted in a different bold color - red, yellow, light blue. I also just had the hardwood floors resurfaced. Wilber himself came to give me the estimate and he is terribly nice. He specifically made sure to let me know that he was willing to work with me in terms of the estimate, which I did take him up on after I got the initial estimate and was happy with the final estimate. I personally like working with people who are responsive in terms of getting back to you if you call. Wilber and his team are very professional and courteous as well as timely in returning your calls.

We just had the majority of the interior of the house painted. The rooms painted were originally covered in wallpaper. William and his crew worked very diligently to get all the paper off and get the walls to a condition to be painted. I must honestly say I've never seen such attention to detail. Their lines were flawless. They took such extra precautions to maintain the floors clean and the carpets. I LOVE the job they did. We weren't able to paint the entire house due to our own budget constraints and they were very open to negotiating. I plan on painting more rooms in the future AND I WILL BE CALLING THEM!

Not only were the workers timely, they were also professional. They addressed all of my questions and took care of any touch-ups needed at the end. All of our rooms were sealed off to prevent the dust from spreading and all of our furniture was covered and taped with plastic. They were very clean and cleaned up each night before leaving. David, our foreman, was especially professional. Our house looks like a new home now. We would highly recommend Wilber's Painting and will use them for any future painting needs.

We have lived in this house (built in 1920) for thirty-seven years. In that time the house has undergone many experiences with a variety of craftsmen; painters, carpenters renovators, etc. Unfortunately too many of those experiences have not been satisfactory. Sometimes it was poor quality, sometimes attitudes ranged from disinterest to disappearance! You can imagine our anticipation after so many disappointments. Then we looked up Angie's List and there we found Wilbur! From the first estimate visit to the last moment of the final day we met courtesy, professionalism, good will and extraordinary workmanship. The crews were friendly, neat, always ready to help. Wilbur himself has impressed us as not just as an expert, but a gentleman with his clients best interests at heart. Victor for the exterior and Ricardo for interior were equally courteous and helpful. Vicky of Wilbur's staff was always available to make the job go smoothly. The house looks great

Wilber and his workers were courteous, friendly, prompt, and efficient. The company was able to provide a fast estimate for the work, that estimate was on the low end, but the warranty for the painting wasn't as long as that offered by a competitor. When I asked Wilber to match this longer warranty, however, he did. The company did a great job painting the house and cleaning up afterward. I was pleasantly surprised when, a few days after the job was done, I was notified that someone from the company would be coming by to inspect the work and see if any additional touch-ups were needed. (This was after I had already looked over the work, asked for a few touch-ups and approved the final product.) The supervisor looked over the house, showed me what she thought still needed to be done, and soon had the workers make these few small touch-ups. I will need to have some interior painting done soon, and I will definitely ask this company for an estimate.
Description of Work: Painted exterior of house & shed. Stained and lacquered interior wood banister & railings. Did minor carpentry work on exterior of shed and house.

They are great. Their prices are almost always the lowest, they come on time to give the quote, and they leave it right there rather than leaving to think about it then sending it in the mail. They are great and I highly recommend them. Wilber is the owner and he comes out, he monitors the crew every day, and there are never any problems. They are willing to go above and beyond. If there is something that needs repaired they are more than happy to do that.
Description of Work: We have used Wilber’s Painting a ton. They pretty much painted our entire house from top to bottom and now they are going to paint the outside of our house.
