Professional crew. Project manager communicated with us every step of the way. He gave us an estimate of how long it would take and he was spot on. We were very happy with their work.
Description of Work: We have an approximately 1700 sq foot home that needed wallpaper stripped, walls sanded and painted.

They striped alll the old paint off the house - a service done far more completely then the other times we have had the house painted by other painters. In doing the exterior painting they replaced or repaired wood that had deteriorated. They actually had a special contractor come over and do the repairs. He charged extra for this work, but the charges were reasonable. They arrived on time, which was extremely important because my wfe and I both work. It was important that they arriive before we had to leave in the morning. They were extremely dependable and the fact that we could not be around during the day posed no problem. After the job was completed we needed a few things redone and the regular painters who had done the job had some trouble fitting us into thetir schedule. In fairness, these were repairs that seemingly had been made when the job was finished (like filling in spaces around the basement windows or between some of the wood on the corner of the house, which had been repaired, but seemed to show up again about a week later when the repair fully dried, or that we wanted the front door to be stained darker while, it looked fine when the job was done, but appeared to get lighter after about a week). To take care of the problem, the owner himself actually made an appointment to come over and take care of our concerns. This showed a level of concern that really impressed us. The job had been completed and we had ben satisfied, but when some problems developed, there was no issue about performing "additional work." The matters were resolved without any further discussion. I wish all contractors acted this way.
Description of Work: Painted the exterior of our house and performed accompanying reparirs.

This was completed last year. I thought I already wrote a review but their work was so good I'm happy to write again with what I remember. The estimators did a thorough walk around and explained in detail what needed to be done. All the workers, carpenters, painters, and clean up crews were punctual. The painters distributed fliers around the neighborhood warning of possible lead based paint being removed before they tented the house and stripped the cedar shakes to bare wood. The painters contained all the sanded paint and cleaned up after work each day. They applied the paint on all the surface with a paint sprayer so the finish was smoothe, The trim was painted by brush. Thet did an excellent job. The carpenters were very professional and made recommendations to the structure of the deck stairs so they wouldn't rot so quickly( the deck is 18 years old). They also did an excellent job. They cleaned up and took all the old decking nails and composite scraps away with them. I asked them to use a fastener system called Camo that utilizes a tool used in conjunction with a drill to sink the screws into the side of the deck flooring so you can't see the fasteners. It makes for a beautiful deck surface without any nails to re-sink when they come loose. The carpenters ran out of composite decking stock and had to go to the Madison Jaeger's lumber yard to get more stock. They paid far less than I did at the Sterling Jaeger's lumber yard and I bought enough quantity to replace the entire deck. I took this information to the Sterling store manager and he refunded the difference which helped pay for more fasteners. All in all I am very happy with the painting and the carpentry work. All of my neighbors commented on the excellent work and the colors we chose. 10 years ago I paid 4,000.00 to have the house sanded and painted. That crew spent most of their time sanding the back of the house that doesn't get much sun, all the damage is usually in the front. The boss came by on several occasions and pulled the crew to go work on other jobs. It took almost 3 weeks to finish the job and they didn't even do a proper clean up. I was scraping splattered paint off windows for weeks afterwards. So please make an appointment with Wilbur's painting you will not be sorry you did.
Description of Work: Prior to stripping the paint from the entire exterior of the house, they had their carpenters replace rotting cedar shakes and rotting underlayment. I also had the carpenters replace my wood deck surface 2 levels with composite decking. Then the painters stripped the entire exterior of the house to bare wood, prime everything and give it two coats of paint. I asked them to match the bright white color of the trim to my cream colored garage doors which they happily did with an extra charge and the cost of the extra paint.

I was impressed with Wilber's from the get-go and would definitely hire them again. The estimate was easy to schedule and very thorough. In fact, I decided to pursue their business even though they weren't the cheapest estimate because of the great level of detail and information they provided. They worked with me subsequently to reach a price that met my budget. The crew showed up promptly, carefully protected the rooms, furniture, etc. in the painting areas and nearby, and left the place neat each day. Job took 2.5 days as estimated. The finished product is excellent--great attention to detail, expert finish, high quality materials used. They also installed a doorknob and a new light-switch plate for me. Friendly, knowledgeable, reliable crew. Great experience.

We didn't chose them because we went with my son's painter.
Description of Work: The provider came for an estimate in a timely, professional manner. But because my son had just had his townhouse painted and we knew how his painter worked out, we decided to go with the "known" provider. If we had not gone with my son's painter, we would have chosen Wilber's.

Wilber's is apparently booked solid. His carpentry team work the weekends, both Saturday and Sunday, and the paint team worked from 8:00 AM to past sundown (literally). The estimators were on time and spent a lot of time with us explaining what the work would entail. The work was well documented before they started. The paint estimator spent a lot of time with us choosing colors etc. They put sample paint colors on all 4 sides of the house so we could choose. The final paint result is very professional. One wrinkle is that we originally intended to just replace a number of the cracked and warped cedar slats for a much lower carpentry price. However when the carpenters started their work we all realized that the state of deterioration was so bad that even laying the ladders against the siding cracked it (the garage side of the house is 3 stories). I did not paint the cedar when the house was build thinking that it would "weather" and look natural. What a mistake. The sun bouncing off of the driveway (south wall) just baked the wood dry. This is the chief reason for the warping and splitting. I have to give the carpentry foreman credit. When he told me if we just tried to patch the cedar it would not look good and the original cedar would continue to degrade. This was not bait and switch- it was the right decision to just replace all of the cedar. Very happy with the end result.
Description of Work: The house is 30 years old. The cedar siding was in bad shape (warped, cracked, etc.) and had to be removed and replaced. $43.5K. Replacement siding was twice as thick, and we put kelvar siding under the cedar. Several framing boards were rotted and replaced. Porch steps were rotting and had to be replaced. Attic grates were cracked and were replaced. Carpentry was excellent. Foreman sent one load of cedar siding back because it had knots in it. No knots anywhere on house now. 4 coats of paint - 2 primer and 2 final. Beautiful paint job. $8K.

I've used Wilber's at my previous home as well....excellent service, very professional and do what they say. As I type this, the power washing crew is finishing up some exterior work that we thought was included in the contract but wasn't, and Wilber agreed to take care of it for us! He knows how to treat customers and I will have them back in for wood trim work in my dining and living room soon.

They came on Saturday as the contract stated. They scrape and removed old, falling paint. They caulk holes and any places that are needed. They also prime the area. It was too late to complete the painting so they returned early Monday morning and start painting the soffit. Mr. Juan and his two crew members worked well together each checking out each other work making sure they haven't missed anything. Before they started they put up plastic to protect my new siding and cover the porch and sidewalk pavers. They start painting and completed in the time Mr. Juan, said they will be finish. And I must say they did and very good job.

Nikki the estimator came right on time an was very specific about what would be done, how it would be done (how many coats etc.) She emailed her estimate within a few days. It was so reasonable that I called and added the crown molding work! I received 2 other estimates and chose Wilber's both for the price and the professionalism that Nikki displayed. First the carpentry guys showed up on time and installed the crown molding. Two days later Nikki showed up with the workers to explain everything to be done. She was not 100% happy with a piece of the crown molding and said she would have them back to fix it. She did! They were there the next day and everything was perfect when they left. The painters (3 men plus the supervisor) showed up on time 8:30 am and stayed and worked until 6:00 pm (supervisor was in and out) prepping the walls. They were very good about closing off doorways and opening so the dust wouldn't get all over the place. Showed up again on time the next day and stayed until 3:30 (I had to leave for the day). The 3rd day only one guy showed up but did spackling that needed to dry before the final painting. On the last day the crew was back (showed up late!) but stayed until the job was totally finished. Did a good cleanup. They didn't leave until 8:00pm. I was very happy. Two days later I noticed some paint/spackle on my front porch and sidewalk. I also notice some paint spots on my washer/dryer in the basement next to the slop sink where they cleaned up. It so happened that Nikki called that day so see if I was happy and I said very...but mentioned the little messes and she said she would have someone over the next day to clean it up. Sure enough 12:00 Saturday afternoon the supervisor was at my door and scrubbed my porch, sidewalk and washer/dryer. This is a long review but I wanted to let people know when you get a good contractor it's a wonderful thing. It wasn't perfect but any problems were immediately resolved. Hooray!!

Wilber's Painting representatives were very cordial and professional. Their painters worked hard to get the job completed on time. This was especially important because we needed to use an oil-based primer that stank terribly, and we needed the job completed before our downstairs neighbors returned from vacation with their two young children. Wilber's got the job done. There were one or two minor issues, and they were quick to correct these. Overall, the service was great. I would definitely use them again.

So far we are very satisfied. They are not done yet, but we are very satisfied so far. We thought the charge was very reasonable for what we needed. I'm very satisfied with the way they have protected everything in the house. They are very careful. We made an appointment for the estimate and they were on time. This morning they set a time and they were here right on time which is something we are not used to. I was impressed with that. My husband was very impressed with their pricing, he had gotten much higher pricing.

Buyer beware - I cannot recommend using Wilber's based on our experience below: Summary of experience: Cons: 1) Walls appear not to have been primed 2) Wilber's appears to have just painted over the old paint 3) Multiple coats of paint were put on before drying, allowing cracks to develop 4) No attention to detail 5) Wilber's did not do work included in estimate, but collected the payment for that work 6) No sanding of trim and baseboards per estimate - just painted over previous paint 7) No scraping/sanding of windows prior to paint per estimate - just painted over previous paint 8) In many areas on the windows and trim you can see the old paint 9) Job was supposed to take approximately 10 days and ended up taking over 2 months 10) Wilber's had to come back 3 times to fix their work and still couldn't get it right Pro's: 1) Wilber's was always pleasant to deal with 2) They were willing to come back to fix the issues several times 3) They did change paint colors in one room free of charge due to their poor craftsmanship Before I get into it I would like to say that we gave Wilber's every chance to correct the issues they created, and I hesitated on writing a review until the completion of the job in fairness to the company. If you are considering them I would strongly caution you to get additional estimates and to stay away from hiring Wilber's to avoid a similar experience. We understand that we have an old house and that it will never be perfect, but there is no doubt that Wilber's cuts corners and does a terrible job. Our story: We hired Wilber's to paint the entire interior of our home including repair of cracks in plaster walls, repair of several bulges in plaster, general patching, sanding of all trim, scraping and sanding of windows, and a full interior prime and paint job. The home had glossy paint throughout and there were many areas with cracks and peeling paint. The initial meeting with the estimator was very pleasant and she seemed to be very knowledgeable on what needed to be done. Based on our meeting we were provided an estimate that included all of the items listed above for what appeared to be a reasonable price. They showed up on time as promised and we felt confident we had made the right choice after seeing some of the initial prep work being done (note: this did not include sanding, only patching of bulges and cracks). Several days later we returned to check on the work and saw that the entire interior of the home had already been painted. In all it took about a full week for the job to be completed and then we did the walk through with the foreman. Our initial impressions were fantastic - the house had been transformed from ugly glossy paint and bad colors to a beautiful home that exceeded out expectations. As a result we paid in full because we were happy with the outcome - this would ultimately prove to be a mistake. After a few days living in the home some issues began to develop: 1) The dining room had previously been painted a glossy red color and it was bleeding through the paint job 2) Paint drips were found throughout the house (on the walls and on our newly re-finished floors) 3) Stains started to develop where patching had taken place 4) There were areas on our 3rd floor we paid to have painted that had only 1 coat of paint and you could see the wood underneath showing through A quick call to the estimator and she came back to do a full walk through of the home. I did not even need to say a word, the work spoke for itself - she was embarrassed at how poor the job was (she wrote up a punch list that was several pages long - finding more issues than we originally called about). Wilber's had the crew come back to patch/fix the issues which we agreed to. After the crew came back many of the same issues were appearing including new cracks in the paint, cracks in our ceilings, the dining room still had red paint showing through, various paint drips, etc. In many areas you could see the old paint starting to show through the paint job. It looked like they were totally careless and the estimator agreed. We again agreed to have the crew come back, this time they had to re-do almost the entire house while we lived in it. After breathing in a lot of dust, being displaced in our own home for several months, and being generally unhappy with the entire situation they finally finished. Conclusion: The end result is a job that upon first look is generally pleasing to the eye. However, upon closer inspection there are many cracks in the paint job throughout the house (that become increasingly visible as time goes on), the windows look awful (can see the old paint, and new paint is chipping off revealing old paint underneath), same story with the trim. I did have Wilber himself walk through and he agreed there was additional work that could be done to again attempt to fix the issues with the paint job. We were supposed to have that work done in the spring but after living in the house with all of these issues we came to the conclusion that after several attempts it was not worth it to have Wilber's come back and again try to fix the poor job that they did, as it would probably end up with the same issues. We also had the exterior of our home painted and did not even consider using Wilber's as a result of our experience using them - I strongly advise you to do the same.

I called two weeks ago to schedule an estimate for our new house. At the time I asked if they could start painting two days after the scheduled estimate and they said yes. I recently posted a message critical of the unresponsiveness of this painter after he inspected our home in order to provide an estimate. In fairness to him, this update is being furnished: The painter later called to apologize for his failure to make contact with us, attributing it to a communications error within his office. I accepted his explanation. My ultimate decision to use another painter was not due to this single unfavorable experience. Nor would I decline to consider this painter in the future. I gave him a "C" in overall rating only because "N/A" is unavailable, but it would have been more appropriate under the circumstances, especially given the details provided in this message.

The quality of the work was excellent. The punctuality of the carpenters, as well as their communications regarding what to expect from them, were less-than-stellar. The professionalism of the head carpenter was in contrast to the professionalism of the painting crew from Wilber's, who worked on my house a few weeks afterwards (i.e., the painters were highly professional and they did excellent work). In the carpenters' defense, the weather was sometimes rainy while they were working and that did impede their progress. That said, they told me they would show up on more than one day where they subsequently failed to show up AND failed to call to inform me that they would not be showing up. I don't expect them to do exterior work in pouring rain, but I do expect them to communicate better than they did. Nevertheless, the quality of the work was excellent. Two steps leading up to my front porch and the balustrades on those steps were replaced. The carpenters built those steps (mahogany treads, composite risers) and balustrades (composite spindles and railings; wood core and composite exterior columns) by hand and the results are great. Several spots on the eaves over my second floor needed to be replaced or repaired, and a long stretch under the roof the porch also need replacing. All the work was done well. The overall experience was good. I only wish the head carpenter was better at telling me when he would show up.
Description of Work: Wilber's carpenters replaced the front porch steps and balustrades. They also repaired and/or replaced several areas on the exterior of the house where there was wood rot. Finally, they replaced the back door and door frame.

Wilber's did a great job. They finished in four-and-a-half days. They left behind no sawdust from the sanding. There were no paint drippings left behind. A few small plants near the house (e.g., hostas) were somewhat trampled, but really not that many. Most of the plants survived intact. The shrubbery was all protected during the sanding and painting. All wood shingles were sanded and painted. All wood trim (including eaves, porch railings, porch columns, wood window frames, etc.) was sanded and painted. The porch floor and steps were painted. The metal storm window frames were painted. The brick foundation, Bilco cellar doors, and back door of the house were painted. The risers on the back deck steps were painted. The back deck floor surface was not painted because it is made of Trex. During the sanding process (which encompassed most of the first day of the job), all windows were wrapped in plastic and taped shut. The house was wrapped in plastic tarps while the sanding was done. No sawdust entered the house. At the completion of the sanding, all sawdust was vacuumed up. The house and back deck were power-washed on the first day when the sanding was completed. The second day the shingles and trim were primed and then the first coat of latex paint was applied to much of the house. On the third day the rest of the first coat and the second coat of latex paint were applied. On the fourth day the painting of the wood window frames and other wood trim proceeded, as did the painting of the metal storm window frames and the porch. On the fifth and final day the final coat of paint was applied to the porch floor, the back deck step risers, and the back door of the house. The job was begun on a Thursday morning. They worked Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday. The crew chief was named Lidier. He and his crew were professional, polite, and thorough. They were a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Exterior painting on 2,300 square foot, 108-year-old, wood-frame house.

Nikki came out to the house to give the estimate. She was very professional and knowledgeable. I did have to follow up with her because the estimate was not sent when promised. But the price was well below another estimate I received. The painters arrived early on the start date and Nikki came back to give them instructions and make sure that we got off on the right foot. The 2nd layer of wall paper was a surprise and proved very difficult to remove. The painters, Oscar and Julio, had to scrape it off which messed up the walls. I was afraid that I would need new sheet rock but, amazingly, they were able to restore the existing walls. This required 2 extra coats of primer and skim coating and sanding in between coats for an additional cost of $520.00 but result is excellent. The walls look like new and the entire job was completed in only 4 days. The painters protected the adjacent rooms by sealing them off with heavy plastic which they removed every evening and rehung before starting work every morning. This contained the dust created by the sandings to the work area and minimized the mess in the adjacent rooms. I am very pleased with work as well as the workers.
Description of Work: Stripped 2 layers of wall paper; sanded walls; primed and skim coated; treated water stains; painted walls, ceiling and trim in living room and hall.
