I have a medical condition in which I get temporarily paralyzed if I am sleeping in a cold room. PSEG told me to call this company. I left a message with a night person as an emergency. SHe never gave them the message so I am told by Barbara who is in the office. Barbara promised someone would call me and show up. But that never happened. I called about 6 times during the day. While no one would help me, each person who I spoke to tried to sell me a service plan with them. I said how can I buy a plan when I can't get anyone to even call me back no less to show up here. Why would I want a plan with such a horrible company? They claim to close at 4:30 but at 3:55 pm no one was there to respond or to talk to except an answering service who told me she has no way to reach anyone. I am still here in the cold. WIll try a different company. If you want to try them, I suggest you do the same. Find another company.

Mike G. the estimator came out and spent over an hour reviewing the existing ductwork and discussing possible units with me. He even requested and I provided a copy of the architectural plans. After a week I followed-up with him and got back an automated out-of-office vacation response. I followed-up with an additional email, phone call, and text message to no avail. Mike and Van Natta disrespected my time and did not even have the decency to tell me they were not interested.

I called for an appointment and they sent someone the next morning - excellent! Mark arrived on time and was very courteous and professional. He had quite a time removing the old unit, working around a dryer vent that was run through the same location and installed new supports for a perfect job. He cleaned up everything beautifully. I thought the cost was a bit high but it definitely required the full 2 hours to complete.

They cleaned up the mess Gilsen made. They've been doing water filter work for me for a long time. They redid all the wiring for the front door light, and they fixed the motion sensor lights. And they found that my air conditioning system issue was a problem with not enough freon and fixed this. They're not always perfect, but most of their work is good in the end. Price is very high and they charge extra even for contract customers if they have to come out on a holiday. I don't agree with this, I don't think that's fair. But their employees are very good.

they charge electrician rates for alarm installation. if i wanted anything special in the alarm, they weren't familiar with the system and i had to do all the research and tell them what i wanted (rather than them telling me what was available). the work they did perform was very cleanly and professionally done, wiring was perfectly run.

Estimator really knew his stuff. I had researched and had 7 previous quotes so I knew what to ask and got the information I needed. Had to chase to get the estimate, it took over 2 weeks. In the end had to male a couple of phone calls to get the estimate. I stuck with them since I had already had a couple of good word of mouth references that were positive. They weren't the cheapest but they weren't the most expensive and seemed the most professional. They responded to my follow up questions quickly. They called a few days earlier to delay the start date. It was ok with me but I got the sense these guys are very busy. Work went well. Team were polite and efficient. I didn't mind having them in my house. Seemed extremely professional. Had to chase to find out when town inspections were going to take place. Found out I needed to schedule them myself. In a nutshell they will give you less personal service than other companies but when they are doing the job are great.

We were one of many victims during Hurricane Sandy with a downed tree on our property, which lightly scraped the electrical service on the side of the house and knocked down the wire - it was still connected. I felt like I could have just gone up on a ladder and tacked it back up, nothing was disconnected, but the wire was downed across the driveway. My town of Allendale, NJ, would not allow the electric company to reconnect my service until a licensed electrician could produce proof that it was reconnected to Town inspector and subsequently Rockland Electric. Van Natta was very responsive considering it was a storm which created enormous damage. I might have gotten lucky, since I had a gas generator and some battery backup and was able to charge our cell phones to call them up. They were very professional, send someone the same day, and did the work about 2 hours later. Overall, I'd recommend them, I felt that the wire could have just been tacked up again, but they wouldn't approve the work unless I fully replaced the wire. I'm not expert, and I understand maybe it was a fear of liability, but having to pay $650 in addition to all the other storm damage was a big hit to me. Overall, this is a company which obviously is professional and prides itself on delivering no nonsense professional service. They helped get our family back on the grid. Rockland Electric on the other hand was not so pleasant to work with and I wish we could've had PSEG for our electric service.
Description of Work: Rewiring the electric service on the side of my house to be ready for Orange & Rockland Electric company to reconnect our wire to the pole, which was knocked down during Hurricane Sandy. The existing service seemed like it just need to be tacked up again, but Van Natta refused to tack up the wire, and said the only way they would give me a service card (for the town inspector) was to remove the existing wire and replace it to the top of the 14 foot garage roof. They opened the metal meter box, replaced the wire with a like kind aluminum thick wire, ran it up the size of the house, used a screw driver to make sure everything was tight, dripped the aluminum in a flax material and in just under 2 hours, he was done. I guess I'm a cheap guy, since I thought it was expensive and almost unnecessary to replace the existing wire. It seemed like paying almost $300 per / hour for an electrician was a bit much. However, I will say that the guy who came over and priced out the work, was the same guy who performed the work within 3 hours (same day), of me calling him on my cell phone. Looking back, most said the job could have been done in a non-emergency situation for about $400 bucks, but I guess some businesses were price gouging much more, and at least the quality of work performed by Van Natta was excellent, and they were extremely responsive. If the saying is true, that you get what you pay for, then Van Natta was on the high end of cost, but delivered excellent speedy and quality service. The electrician was also a highly knowledgeable and polite person. He even mentioned that normally the cost was closer to $900 to $1,000 for a service ready connection and he was actually cutting me a "break." When you have a family living like Amish people, without Electricity for weeks, then you'll pretty much pay anything to ready yourself to be reconnected to the grid. I'd use them again, but I'd also recommend getting additional quotes just to make sure they are giving you a fare price.

They had a team of 2 guys show up around 9am. They laid drop cloths throughout their work area. They worked all day, breaking for lunch at their trucks. The guys were very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They answered any questions I had, and showed me how things should work. They did a good job of cleaning up after themselves, as well. I am very satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: We have only been in our (50-yr old) home for a couple of months. I had a laundry list of things that were found during our home inspection, so I asked Van Natta to take care of several of the items ... -- The air conditioning condensate was improperly routed to the plumbing vent stack. Removed the condensate line from the vent stack and discharged directly to exterior. -- No trap at condensate drain at the attic air handler unit. Installed trap for proper drainage of the condensate. -- Inadequate ventilation for the attic. Installed attic fan. -- Bathroom exhaust fans discharged into the soffit/overhang. They are now discharged directly to the exterior to avoid potential moisture accumulation in the attic.

I called for service on a heating unit not working in an apartment we own and rent out. They gave me an appt. for the following day. I was told it would be $49.99 and I would be notified of the estimate to repair it before any work was done. The service professional got there a few minutes early. An hour later I got a call telling me the estimate to replace a fan motor was $684.05 and if I decided not to have the work done I would be billed $111 (because it took him an hour to determine the problem). I thought this was unfair since I was told it was $49.99 and never did he call and let me know it would be more. I felt pushed into using them since I would be losing over $100 if I did not. I felt the estimate was high as well since I was told the work would only take about an hour and I believe the materials were approx. $150.00. I called the office and spoke to Dennis who was very nice and seemed to agree with me about not being notified about the increase in the diagnostic fee. But he felt the price was fair and refused to lower it. The work was done the same day and everything seems to be in working order. Again, I felt forced to use this company since I didn't want to be out $111 and we needed the heat repaired a.s.a.p. for out tenants. Not sure if we would use them again but a little disappointed considering I had used them years ago at this same apartment.

It's an old house so it's not always that easy. It wasn't a replacement. It was an initial central air system for a 1925 house. I was very satisfied with them. I had had them some years ago to do some plumbing for me in another home, but I was never around when they were doing it. This time I was home the entire time and they were great. Their prices were competitive. They weren't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive ones. They were too punctual.

I was able to get an appointment for the day I wanted. The tech showed up @10 minutes late but that was no big deal. He estimated our equipment at 12-13 years old so he was very concerned that the unit looked to be be closer to 20 years old. The unit has some rust due to 2 leaks we had several years ago. He said that he did not think we had more than a year left before we would have to replace the whole system. He also "lectured" me on cleaning the electronic air cleaner cells more frequently, even though I clean them every 3-4 months. After cleaning the unit he told us we probably had 2-3 years, so I felt a little better. He also mentioned some parts that he thought might fail in the near future, but never offered to replace them or give me an estimate. He seemed to be saying that the whole unit should be replaced and there was no option to just replace some parts. The age of the unit seemed off so after he left, I pulled the paperwork on the system and realized it had been installed in 1994, so the equipment was closer to 17 years old. The charge of 155.26 for 45 minutes of labor also seemed a little high.

I'm confident that everything will turn out great.
Description of Work: After interviewing 4 or 5 different5 contractors, I am getting ready right now to hire Van Natta to do a heating and cooling job for me. It is a big job between $38,000.00 and $40,000.00 so I needed to be very careful in selecting the right contractor. I am having my complete heating and air conditioning service replaced. I interviewed about 5 different contractors and of the 5 I have come to the conclusion that Van Natta had the best all around plan and was best equipted to do the job. Van Natta presented with the most professional, most reliable recommendations and work scope. Van Natta does everything themselves and subcontracts nothing. They have over 100 men working for them licensed in every trade, pluming, electrical, carpentry etc. This is not an easy job. It is complex and requires very careful planning. I am someone who doesn't trust anyone to do a 100% job and I would expect any other contractor to turn in a job at about 80% of my expectation. I can already tell that I will get at least 90% from Van Natta and maybe even 95%. 100% jobs exist only in the world of fiction . You would think that I worked for Van Natta from this recommendation but all I can tell you is that they couldn't pay me enough to sit down here on my time and write words of praise. My words of praise are not for sale, they need to be earned and they don't come easy. I am dealing with Ron Gerhold from Van Natta who happens to be a straight forward, really honest guy. Ron is not going to try to sell you something you don't need and believe me he knows exactly what you need to accomplish your objective. Ron and I have designed a plan with the intention of saving 35% to 40% on the cost and use of energy. We have also together designed it to provide cleaner, healthier, more comfortable, air that is easier and more pleasent to breath. Ron came up with a plan for my home which was magical; so magical that it even impressed other professionals who sought to mimic it. Although I have been constantly battling with Ron over the price, I like the guy and I'm sure that what ever price Ron comes up with will be a little better than any other contractor and very fair except in case yor're reading this Ron I want it a little better than that .
