Chris DeLorenzo was on time, polite and professional. He worked from the time he arrived until job was complete. My ceiling looks better then before- after sheet rock and plastering he painted the area. I am extremely satisfied and recommend his services to anyone in need of repairs.

Handyman they sent was excellent. Service was performed professionally and on time. He was detail oriented and cleaned up after the job was done. Very convenient service. I think the pricing was slightly on the high side, but not outrageously so. Don't forget you are paying a fee for the middleman in order to find the handyman. Overall highly recommended.

Stephen sent Owen from Natural Home Builders to our house. He was polite and knowledgeable Gave us a good price It was a little tricky because there was less space in the utility room. he did the best he could and end result was acceptable. Problem is - we still had to do tiling in that room which should be done after the wall is built. Owen said to call him back once we are done with tiling and he would come put the trims up and door locks which he already bought and were with us. So we paid in full - both for labor AND material. I agree, it took us 3 months to finish the tiling (we have never done it before plus we work full time so it took longer than we thought) - but as soon as we were done, we tried to contact Stephen and Owen to come and finish the work with trims and door lock. I have sent numerous emails to Stephen and Owen . Owen once called saying he would stop by that week but that never happened. And nothing since. Stephen, we don't have the tools etc to finish the work ourselves and plus we paid for this work. could you please send someone else if not Owen to finish the work? We do not want to take any action unless necessary..

After much delay and broken promises to finish the work, the craftsman involved went and finished this job. Due to his non-responsiveness to us and the customer, he has been suspended for 3 months. We apologize to the (deleted member name), we should have sent another craftsman to finish the job and not kept believing the original man who kept telling us he would.

Handyman provided a mason to take care of a ground contact issue we had to take care of for selling out house. The mason was EXTREMELY helpful in planning what I could do to lower the cost and prep the site for his work. He was very helpful in talking about the situation and what needed to be done and what could be added or not as I saw fit. I dug out the site and prepared what I could. He kept me informed during the whole process and provided some suggestions that really made the work complete.

Billy and Yvonne (husband and wife team) were punctual and professional. They arrived on time, and did their work quickly and neatly. They took care of getting the paint (which I reimbursed them for) and left the unused paint for me. They were easy to do business with. [Note: A previous employee had given me an estimate and then did not show up to do the work as agreed. When I called Handyman Connection after he didn't show up, I was told that he was no longer working for them and that he should have called me to let me know. I think Handyman should have been the one to call me directly rather than the former employee, but that's a separate matter and I wouldn't want it to impact my rating for the folks that actually did the work. And Handyman quickly rectified the situation by assigning the work to Billy and Yvonne who called me shortly thereafter. All in the all, the work was only delayed by a couple of days so it wasn't a big deal.]
Description of Work: Scraped/prepped and repainted masonry steps/landing leading to back door. Paint was $60; labor was ~$240 (after $25 discount using Angie's List coupon).

As above, started off well enough, but never received the estimate, despite repeated assurances it was forthcoming. The overall jobs were not minor, it was some exterior carpentry, interior painting, sheetrocking, removing some 1980s built-ins. I expected a decent bill. At this point, I am glad it stopped there. If it is this hard getting an estimate, imagine trying to get them to actually show up and do the job. I have no way of gauging their prices, workmanship, etc., so I did not comment on that.
Description of Work: I initially called Handyman Connection in early April 2013. After several days of playing "phone tag" I spoke with the local person Bob. Bob said he was busy on a big job, but offered to come by over the weekend. We settled on a Monday at 6. He showed up on time as promised, took a walk through the house, made some measurements and promised to provide an estimate within a day or two. Up to that point everything was great, thus the "A" in puctuality. After that, it went downhill. Over the next two weeks I received phone calls and several text messages, promising the estimate, but nothing was ever received. At first I told them no problem, you could even just email it to me. Eventually the communication stopped.

Terrible. He started the work and was unable to finish that day because he had another job. The work looked sloppy and unprofessional. He explained he would bring back a wire brush, etc to make it look better. He did not show up or call when he said he was next coming, which he scheduled for a Sunday so he could finish. Two days later I called the company and the owner had this repairman call me. He stated he had a brain fart and forgot about the job. He also stated that he mis-quoted the price, but would still honor it and it would be nice if a bought him a six-pack of beer. He scheduled again, came and left before finishing. He dumped dry cement behind my shed, put paint chips in my hosta beds and stored things in my shed without asking me. He then scheduled a fourth visit (to finish a three hour job) again, on a Sunday, stating he had the whole day free and would stay until it was done. He again, left without finishing. At this point - I gave up. The material used to do the pointing was the wrong color, but I was willing to leave it . The job is still unfinished and looks like a child did the part that is done. When I called the owner I told him how unhappy I was and that I did not want this worker back at all. He did send a refund, however, I need to hire someone to un-do this work and it may cost more now.
Description of Work: Hired to scrape out and re-point my back outside stairs. This was a simple job and the quote was $150. plus materials.

The craftsman we assigned to this job did not follow our normal procedures for interacting with customers, showing up on time, or completing work at a customer’s house and for that we apologize. The craftsman did go back and cleaned up the flower bed and the area behind the shed. We try to carefully screen all of our craftsmen and we put them through customer service training, but occasionally we have someone where the training does not “stick”. The craftsman involved has been terminated and we again sincerely apologize for the bad experience the customer had.

the appointment was easy to set up. The handyman showed up on time and peeled backk the carpet to take a look. He then gave his honest opinion, ie, yes it is a problem and yes it is easily fixed by the flooring company and it would be more expensive if we hired him to do the job. i appreciate his honesty and professionalism.

John came to the house while we were at work and reviewed what needed to be done. That way, when we later spoke in person, he was able to explain exactly what supplies he needed, how he would do the work and some things we didn't know should also be done - like re-caulking the frame. He came two days later and did everything in one day. This was the kind of job that would look simple to do, but actually is time consuming and requires a degree of expertise. I knew that I had neither, so I'm glad John did.
Description of Work: The frame around our double front door and transom needed to be stripped, sanded, primed and painted. And, the color had to match the existing doors. Handyman Connection arranged for John, a local craftsman to stop by the house, review the job and get me an estimate all in the same day. John came to do the work on the day we agreed upon, purchased the supplies and did an excellent job matching the paint. He even, at no cost to us, re-caulked some of the frame. John was everything you want in a handyman; punctual, professional, knew what he was doing and got it done. I would not only use these folks again, I would recommend them to a friend.

His work seemed to be ok, but always seemed unsure of exactly what he needed. Mr. Handyman made multiple trips to the store because he purchased the wrong supplies. I feel there was a lack of professionalism throughtout this entire experience.
Description of Work: I received an estimate for my replacement of door next to my garage, but when I received my bill I was $110.00 more. I was also charged $25.00 more for repair and painting for my garage door exterior. I do no undererstand the whole point of an estimate when then you decide to over-charge. Also, there was some miscommunication when scheduling to return to complete the job. Initially, the work was started on a Saturday and I was told by Mr. Handyman that he does not think he was going to make it on Tuesday because of a tooth extraction, but will probably come on Wednesday. I made it clear from day one that either my older son or I need to be home at all times during the repairs due to a bad past experience. I was going to leave the door next to my garage open for him to finish. To my surprise when I came home from work on Tuesday, Mr. Handyman was in my house. The door was locked and Mr. Handyman did not think to call me, but let himself into my back porch and also thought it was OK to just enter my house and going through my basement to finish the work. I found this extremely disturbing, especially when everything was locked. A simple phone call would have made a world of difference. I did bring this up with the owner and I was told he needs to review the invoice.

The following was written by the Craftsman who worked with (deleted member name), Gary Falkenstern. Gary has 16 other reviews on Angie's List and nearly every single one has a rating of "A" in all facets of the review. First of all, let's get the facts straight. She said I charged her $25 more for painting and repairing her garage door. What she conveniently forgot was that I also said I was charging her $40 to paint her new exterior door AND $100 to repair and paint her garage surround. The total should have been $140. I charged her $125 to repair and paint the garage door trim and the new door, inside and out and the interior and exterior trim. I think that is a savings of $15. The point of an estimate is that it is an estimate. If things go as planned, then I stay with that. But from the beginning there were hidden problems. The old door was built in a way that would have meant causing damage to the surrounding stucco on the wall. I told (deleted member name) that and we agreed to get a narrower door so that I wouldn't have to damage and repair the stucco, something I wasn't experienced in doing, again I told her that. She also agreed that the price would be more with these unexpected developments. I think $50 more was not much, considering I was only charging her $200 to start out with. Also, the door was shorter than the door I was replacing it with. So I had to open up the area above it, frame it out so the new one would fit. I had to return the door for a new one, one of her alleged trips because of my getting the 'wrong' supplies. Also, I researched doors for her and presented her with a couple of alternatives. The other trip was for screening. While most of the 5 screen panels I did were about 31-32 inches wide, two were 34 inches and the 36 inch screening I bought were to narrow. The miscommunication about when I was coming to work happened because I had not only texted, but e-mailed her Monday evening and got no response. I called her Tuesday morning after not hearing back from her. It seems she doesn't know what day it was and assumed the messages I sent her were from that morning, so she thought I was talking about coming Wednesday. When I came later Tuesday morning, I found the door locked. I went to knock on the back door and found it open. I assumed she left it open for me (I have a text telling me that the door would be open for me when I worked there the previous Sunday). I called in and it seemed that no one was home. I went throughout to the basement and opened the door and continued to work. I take great pride in my professionalism. I look at a job and if something needs to be done that was not discussed or came up unexpectedly; I will fix it and not leave it for the customer to ask me to do it. This was the case with the floor on the inside of the exterior door I installed. There was a rotted subfloor over concrete. I cleaned out the damaged wood and linoleum tiles and used mortar to bridge the space between the door sill and the subfloor. I also used some left over mortar to repair holes left on the stucco wall outside were a sign had once been. I though old concrete nails wasn't very attractive. I used an epoxy concrete caulking to repair a crack from trying to remove the old door (also a previously damaged area, in an effort to keep water out and from causing more damage). (deleted member name) also asked me to put back aluminum trim that was blown off during last fall's hurricane, something I shouldn't have done because of insurance issues. This was done for free, taking only a few minutes. She seems to have wiped that from her memory also. She is correct in saying I would start on Saturday. I spent 6-7 hours that day. I came back Sunday to make it weather tight and to the finish molding. She was afraid of crickets getting in and I wanted to get it finished so she wouldn't be terrorized by them any longer than necessary. I told her Monday was out because of a previously scheduled tooth extraction. Then I was there Tuesday, 'breaking' into her house, through an opened door, because she didn't know what day it was. I stayed there from around noon until 8pm finishing the door trim, floor and re-screening 5 full sized screens for her porch and repairing a whole in the kitchen ceiling. I came back Wednesday afternoon to finish the ceiling. This caused more heartache for her. I told her she would be lucky if the paint matched (as it was a couple years old and in the area where she cooked), and she would likely have to paint the entire ceiling. I also went home to get another can of paint in hopes of making the patch less noticeable. So if she feels that being charged $600 for 19-20 hours of work, not including getting the materials for her (which she paid for but initially I paid for out of my pocket), then I think she needs a reality check. She was also unhappy that she was charged tax when she paid cash. I never tell anyone that they can save the tax by paying cash, but she insisted that Steve had said as much (he hadn't, so much for being truthful). I told her if that was the case, I would give it back to her. In response to her dismal review she wrote for Angie's List, all I can say it that I will let my nearly perfect Angie's List ratings and repeat customers speak for themselves.

Handyman Connection returned my call quickly and explained their service. I explained the three small plumbing jobs I needed done and got a call a short time later with the name and number of one of their handymen. I called, described the plumbing jobs and we set up an appointment. Unfortunately, the next date he had available was six days later. He arrived on time, looked at the situation and admitted it was beyond his expertise. I do appreciate that he acknowledged this before diving in and dismantling things. Still, it was frustrating to wait nearly a week and still not have the job completed.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I needed to have a shower faucet, a sink faucet and a toilet flush mechanism repaired or replaced.

We are sorry we could not help this customer. Unfortunately, the customer's plumbing systems and fixtures are very old and the craftsman we sent did not feel comfortable with trying to make the necessary repairs. We always tell our craftsmen that if they are not sure they can be successful in making a repair to explain why and apologize to the customer, which was what was done in this case. If is far better to have a customer be slightly aggravated that their job is not completed than to attempt a repair and either be unsuccessful or create larger problems than the customer had to begin with. In closing, we again offer our apologies but we are glad the craftsman recognized the job was beyond his skill level and walked away prior to causing bigger problems.

Cedar shakes are siding on the side of the house. It is made of cedar and rough textured shingles. He came out and he looked at the house and bought one that would match the one that I already had. I didn’t chose but he matched what was here previously. He had to replace the 20 shakes because the woodpecker made the holes through and at one time it made a hole so big enough that a cat came through. Others were just smaller holes but significant and about a golf ball might go through. I might have found someone else cheaper price wise. I don’t think he would have dealt with something like this often but he knew how to repair and replace. There were actually other areas were on a corner somebody ran a snow blower up past next to the house and they might have caught edges and corner with a couple of little cracked ones too and he fixed those and so it is not something that he wasn’t familiar with but he was saying he was an expert in the wood pecker thing.
Description of Work: I used Handyman Connection - Bergen County to replace and paint the cedar shakes. He purchased the cedar shakes and got the paint to match the house and painted the shakes and there were some shakes that had small holes so he repaired and painted that and with others that he removed and replaced.

Bill Little performed all of the work. He was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and capable. He even worked through some unexpected twists by fabricating pieces to make things fit and work correctly (for the exhaust vent). I have a few more things that need fixing, and Bill will be coming back to take care of those, as well. This was my first experience with a handyman service, and I was really impressed.

I cold-called Handyman Connection and was told I would hear from "Gary" who called a few minutes later and made an appointment for 11:00 am the following day. My doorbell rang almost on the dot at 11:00 and Gary inspected my problem door, gave me what I consider a reasonable price, and had the door in good working order with the hour. It was an entirely pleasant experience.

The guy who was doing the work was Joe Katzler. He had to come three separate days. He got the doors and then was doing some various things. It was over a three-day period that he was coming. I did not mind that. I mentioned to him that the time was not the essence where he just had to do it all at once. He had four doors cut and two doors replaced. It was a time consuming work. It was good. What he did was a little costly, the two doors at the paneled family room that he replaced, he stained and polished them as well as cut them and hang them. That was probably why the price was up a little. He was very good. I think he was subcontracted by Handyman Connection. He did an excellent job. At first due to weather conditions, it took a little longer for the staining because of the humidity. He actually called me and said it was still a little tacky and did not want to bring it so he showed the professional carpenter who took pride in his job.
Description of Work: Handyman Connection of Bergen County came in and did some doors. I asked him to do some closet doors and doors in a family room. He cut them and replaced two new ones. He also did some work on the doorways to make it better for my handicapped son to come in.

Their main office called me within 2 hours of my contacting them. I was given the name of a local handyman who was suppose to be contacting me within 24-48 hours. Never heard from the guy so I went with another company.

Response from Handyman Connection - Bergen County
The craftsman was assigned this job on the 15th and was susposed to call the customer within 24 hours to set an evaluation appointment, as is our policy. While the craftsman usually follows up on assigned work orders in an appropriate fashion, in this case he did not. He informed me, when I called him today, that he had only called the customer today on the 22nd. He will call the customer and personally apologize. No excuses- we did not fulfil one of our most basic customer committments and for that we apologize to Member.

Gary was great. Called to say he would be a little late. Re-grouted the tile in the shower and caulked around the bathtub. Replaced 2 cracked tiles on the bathroom floor and pointed out the reason the tiles cracked (they were not put down correctly). He was very neat and professional.
Description of Work: Regrouting of tile in shower area, recaulked bathtub, replaced 2 broken floor tiles.
