Bill responded to my Angie's List query promptly and made an appointment for an estimate. He walked through the job with me and went over the options for me to decide whether certain areas needed minor repairs or more detailed improvements. Bill did a great job with the trimwork and patching cracks and areas that were poorly patched previously. Bill's associate did most of the painting and also did a great job. They always leave it to the customer to make the decisions whether an extra coat is needed or if it is satisfactory.The job was finished promptly. Bill is only happy when the customer is completely satisfied. I'm looking around the house for more projects for him.

While I did receive a prompt response to my inquiry, he indicated that he does not do work outside of NJ, contrary to the areas listed on this website. So, if you live in center city (or anywhere outside of Jersey, I guess) don't bother.

Bill arrived on time with all the right tools.He had all the know-how and skills to accomplish the task the way I wanted it done.He was very friendly, hardworking and considerate. I'm planning to have him do a few other projects in the near future.

After receiving an estimate from Bill to rescreen our porch, we agreed to paint the wood that he would need to complete the job. After notifying Bill that the wood was ready, he worked us into his schedule and arrived as promised. After discovering more wood damage than anticipated, Bill presented us with options that would allow us to get the work completed as soon as possible. His revised estimate for the additional work was fair. Both Bill and his assistant worked quickly and neatly. At times Bill worked by himself and with his helper as needed. The quality of his work was excellent and he cares about doing a good job. Our porch looks great and we would certainly recommend Need A Handyman to others. Suggestions-allow time for the handyman to work you back into his schedule after you have finished preparing materials. Decide in advance if you want the project finished completely or if you can complete part (painting caulked areas). Allow weeks for painting pressure treated lumber (dry time before painting).

Originally we thought the whole sub floor including the joists were bad but Bill identified the problem and gave me options. The experience went very well. Bill was quick with an estimate, was very professional and knowledgeable. I will use Bill again in the future and would definitely recommend Bill's services.

Bill is fair, knowledgeable, competent, professional, and a really nice guy. What more could you ask! We are very pleased with the work. Great job. He gave us some good suggestions on some additional work we plan to schedule with him. We wouldn't hestitate to hire him again.

We were under a time constraint for this installation and Bill assured us that he would do everything he could to make it happen. I ordered the door and then Bill communicated with the distributor to make sure the door was delivered on time. He and his assistant arrived promptly to perform the installation. They were professional, friendly, precise, and very tidy in all aspects of their work. My husband and I would definitely hire Bill Marsden again. Thank you, Angie's List, for your service. If it weren't for your list, we would not have found "Need a Handyman"!

I contacted Need-A-Handyman to install a large recessed medicine cabinet requiring enlarging the plaster wall opening. I selected this company based on Angie's list feedback. Bill returned my call within the hour and was able to do the work that same day. He did an excellent job! His work was professionally done and he was a pleasure to work with. I will be using Bill/Need-A-Handyman again in the very near future for a number of other projects. ws

I contacted Bill to do some carpentry / trim work for us. He responded promptly and we scheduled a time for him to come out and write up an estimate. Bill wrote an estimate for the cost of the labor with the cost of the materials to be purchased by him and billed to us at cost. He called once he had all the materials ready for installation and we agreed on the date. He showed up as promised and installed the crown moulding that day. I was happy with the result but once the moulding dried a little there was a small gap where the ends were mitered. Bill returned later, filled the gap and repainted it and promised to come back as often as needed if the problem recurred. The second job he did for us was to fix our stair railings. The wood at the base of the banisters was worn and the banisters were all coming loose. Bill replaced the base with new wood that he had prepped and painted and then reattached the railing and firmly secured all the banisters. There was a slight delay in scheduling the second job due to some unforeseen circumstances with another job, but Bill communicated to let me know what was going on and we were able to schedule at my convenience. We are happy with the completed work and Bill is very fair with the pricing. He provided receipts for all the materials that he purchased on our behalf and was always willing to work with us and go above and beyond to make sure the work he did was satisfactory to us.

Mr. Marsden came over the next day after I requested an estimate and called several times to discuss what was involved in going the job various ways and to follow up after giving me his estimate. Gave me what I felt was a very fair price for the extent of work needed to complete the refurbishing of my walkway and steps leading down to my small dock. Ultimately decided to try my hand at repairing the flagstone walk myself and after three days of backbreaking work on my vacation I strongly regretted not hiring Mr. Marsden. Next time I'll DEFINITELY get him to tackle any work around my house and yard.

I found Mr. Marsden through Angie's List I emailed him regarding services required. He promptly responded both by email and by telephone. He was informed as to the services my brother and I required in my father's home and that we were in the process of selling the home. He said he would be able to provide the painting services we needed. I put him in touch with my brother who lives in the area where the house is located. Mr. Marsden surveyed the repairs needed and advised us that drywall services would be required. He gave us a time frame for scheduling the work and a price estimate that met our needs. He arrived when he said he would and completed the work on time.

Bill was punctual, told us exactly what needed to be done. He called when he needed to reschedule due to weather. He performed the work exactly as he said he would.

Everything went well. Bill arrived on time and completed the jobs as agreed. If he was not familiar with a job (issue with my dishwasher) he admitted he was not familair with appliance repair but reccomended someone who was. Bill worked quckly and cleanly. I would use him again.

Bill came out for an estimate, as did two other services, and early on I felt that he was the right person to handle my problem. He was very professional and easy to communicate with. I asked for suggestions and his were wonderful. He is extremely competent, very nice, and was always on time. If there was a delay in his arrival either he or his wife would call. I never had to worry that he wouldn't show up. He consistently cleaned up after working in an area. Since he works alone you need to be patient about him getting to you. But, I assure you that he is worth the wait! I have nothing negative to report. He is very particular about his business and the way he does things. It is rare today to meet someone who has the work ethic that he does.

Bill was very professional and showed up when he said he would. His price was lower than 2 of the other bids and about the same as the 4th bid, but the way Bill said that he would do the job was a higher quality method than the other one. (He put wood strips up on the ceiling first tp even out imperfections rather than just nailing the drywall directly to the plaster). He completed the drywall in the time he said he would and his subcontractor, who did the skimcoating patching and taping, was also on time and did a high quality job. The walls are very smooth and ready for paint. It was a bit dusty afterward, but i expected that. They did their best to contain the dust. Overall i was very happy with the quality service and price.

Overall the project went extremely well. We are looking forward to working with Bill in the near future on some work inside the home.

What can I say? Bill showed up at 8AM with tools in hand, and fixed the railing. He had already measured the shelf and had that ready.

We were redecorating a large playroom with a high cathedral ceiling to make it an office/den for my boyfriend. There were painted murals on the walls that needed to be covered, some cracked drywall seams where the roof had leaked a little before being replaced, and various marks in the drywall from the kids. In addition, the door and door frame into the room were damaged and needed to be replaced. Bill was great! He was very professional from start to finish, as well as pleasant to have in the house. He came out promptly to give us an estimate. We were not in a hurry to get the job done, and he was good about working around my work schedule to come to the house when I was available. He was quiet and neat and cleaned up after himself each time. I was really surprised at how quickly he worked. The room looks beautiful now!

The process went very well indeed. The result is an exact duplication of the original ornamental surround of the front door including the overhead triangular colonial sculpture and the re-installation of my existing storm door. The project was complete including careful finish painting.

He removed a section of my wall and found the source of the leak, so he recommended a plumber and I used him. He is also going to be changing lights and other small electrical jobs. He does what he says he is going to and if he can?t handle it, he will tell you upfront. He is responsive and returns phone calls and I have been impressed. He did a nice job so far.

Most of the services went well except the powder room mirror was installed without asking where--it needed to be reinstalled which requires repair work--spackling, priming, and painting on my part. See attached picture. The drawers of 2 of the vanities (4 drawers) required the installation of handles. Need A Handyman did not measure correctly where the handles would be installed. He ended up drilling bigger holes and additional holes into my solid oak, very expensive drawers. The drawers needed to be reordered with a 3-week wait time. I ended up reordering just the drawers fronts ($107) and not the entire drawer box with drawer front ($428). The drawer boxes required repair on my part by using wood filler and sanding. See attached pictures. Need A Handyman offered to pay for the drawers but I declined receipt since I didn't want him to touch them again. I believe it getting the work right the first time. Need A Handyman did work beyond the proposal which was a positive. I offered to pay for any work that he did. Bottom line is, I never met a handyman before that didn't know how to measure. Bill does try hard to please but this did not work out.

He is very knowlegable and friendly. He is very upfront with what needed to be done. We had a couple of things that needed to be done that fell out of his scope of work. He suggested other people to us that could do the work.

Due to water leakage the 2 ceilings needed repair. Bill came the next day and gave me an estimate. I called to set up a date. He arrived on time replaced a piece of sheet rock in the den and spackled it. He also spackled the ceiling in the kitchen. He returned several times to respackle and sand until he felt the job was perfect. Over all he did an excellent job and the areas look as though they were never damaged.

He was very upfront with what he could and could not do for us. Very friendly and cordial. He was here when he said he would be-did not leave a mess. Everything was put back where it was supposed to be. I feel like we absolutely got a good price for what he did for us.
