Bill Marsden is the owner. He did a great job. He showed up when he was supposed to. He did not stick with the start date and the end date; things did not work as planned. People do get sick, but the overall job came out great. If I had to hire someone again, I would hire him again. He started the work at the beginning of the year, last year. He started by doing small things, but I got carried away and he ended up fixing many things.
Description of Work: I used Need A Handyman Service LLC, four months ago. He fixed many things. He also built a powder room downstairs.

I contacted Bill after seeing his high ratings on Angie's List. I had already gotten an estimate from another highly rated painter/contractor, but Bill's estimate was considerably more reasonable. In addition, he seemed very friendly and like someone I would enjoy having around. He was also quite willing to work with an unusual schedule: we didn't want him to paint on days that my husband has office hours in the home (M-W); he could only work on weekends that started on Thursdays. He was quite flexible, and we worked out a mutually acceptable way to get the work done over 2 weekends. Bill prepped the first week, and the second week he and Charlie painted. The entire job took up to 5 days. We had a lot of poorly taped seams that needed correcting, and Bill took great care with them and other drywall repairs the first day, returning on two subsequent days to sand and apply more spackle. All-in-all we were quite pleased. The office looks wonderful with its one contrasting wall. The vaulted bathroom ceiling is nicely painted, and Bill supplied a high quality paint for me to use in painting the walls. We got an estimate from Bill to do our living room-dining room-foyer-hallway in February.
Description of Work: Prepped ceilings and walls in 2 rooms (office and master bathroom); painted ceiling and walls in office and vaulted ceiling in master bath with 2 coats. Cost includes materials and allows for 10% discount.

I had my basement refinished over the summer and was unhappy with the time it took the carpenter to install molding and the appropriate finishing trim. I basically fired him and left the job unfinished in disgust. I then found Need a Handyman on Angies list and selected him based upon his fine references. I was not dissappointed with the work he and his assistance performed. Bill and Bob came out at 3PM promptly and went right to work replacing wood door molding, remounting a handrail (correctly this time) and finishing the trim work the previous individual was unable to complete as a result of having fired him. I was tuly impressed with the professionalism, quality of work and efficiency. The work was completed just a couple of hours later and looks fantastic. I have some other projects I will also be seeking assistance with and plan to use this company for all of the projects.
Description of Work: Re-mounted cellar handrail, Molding replacement and trim installation including custom woodworking.

Great, No complaints whatsoever. Bill and an associate came on time as promised and removed all the existing materials and then cleaned up all the packaging and other refuse from the new enclosure. Couldn't be happier. Would use him again without question.
Description of Work: Bill demolished my existing bath enclosure and then installed a new frameless clear glass enclosure. He also directed me to a great plumbing supply store which had many more enclosures and better prices for my new bath upgrade.

It was a waste of my time. If the rooms were empty, I would paint them myself.
Description of Work: I called and asked for an estimate on interior painting. Bill said that he would come by in the morning as he was working nearby. I called him at lunch time as he had not shown. After seeing the first room that I wanted painted he asked, " who is going to move all the furniture?" When I told him the I could not move it, he longer seemed interested. He told me that it would be much easier if there was nothing in the rooms. He said he would get back to me in 1-2 days with an estimate. He also said that he would not be able to do the work until late December as it would take more than on person to do the job if he had to move the furniture. I never got the estimate and have not heard from him since.

Response from Need A Handyman Service, LLC
I never gave Member an exact time . I told her I was working in the area and would call her around noonish . Member never called me. I called her around 1PM and asked if it was okay to come over. She said yes So, I went over and looked at the bedroom she wanted painted. There was alot of heavy furniture in the room(bookcases, wall TV, bed, desks and nightstands and ETC...). I asked if she wanted me to move the furniture because it would take more than just me to do the job. If I was not interested I would not have asked to look at the other rooms. Member stated she wanted the job done before her husband came home in January. Around the holidays is my busiest time and I could not get to her project until the end of December. Member was not happy with that answer. Lastly, three days after our meeting I called Member with the estimate. All she said was "ok, thank you" and that was the last I heard from her.

Bill contacted me immediately. He was very pleasant and easy to talk to. He came out within days to give me an estimate. I was surprised at the price - it was very reasonable. I was assured he would be doing the job himself. We needed a crack in the wall spackled before the painting could be done. He came three days in a row to spackle, and he was either on time, or he called ahead to let me know he'd be a few minutes late. Very professional. On the day of the painting, I also pointed out some other small issues we had - small hole in the wall, cracked doorframe, just to see if he could give me a price to fix them. Not only did he take care of the issues for me right then and there without a charge, but he gave me advice on household repairs. I highly recommend Bill for any work around the house.

All work done exceeded my expectations. The estimate and final cost were right on. I would recommend Need a Handyman to everyone. Bill takes great pride in his work and listens carefully to what you want.
Description of Work: I had been trying to find someone for eight months to get work done in my kitchen, specifically, counter tops, ceramic tile, new sink and garbage disposal installed. I had four different handymen come to my house and take measurements and go through with me what the job would take and then I would never hear from them after that. Some would tell me they were looking for the best price on materials, one had another job and each time he said he was coming, he didn't. Another contracter never got back to me and ignored any of the calls I made to him.. My fear was that this was the way it just was and I had no choice but to be patient or hire big companies and pay big money. My daughter suggested to me that I try Angie's list. I hadn't heard of this before, but thought I had nothing to lose by trying. The first person I called was Bill from Need a Handyman. He called me back right away. He came to our house shortly after that and listened to what I was looking for and gave me an estimate that was so much better than what I had hoped for. Having told him all that I had been through trying to get this done, he made a point of always keeping in touch with me saying I didn't forget you and telling me what he was doing regarding materials, etc for my job. He built the counter tops in my driveway. I had to do nothing but pick out the ceramic tile for the walls behind the countertops. Everything exceeded my expectations especially the tile work. I am so pleased with everything. Bill's work ethic, professionalism and honesty would be reason enough for my husband and I to call on him for any job we might have in the future.

We did some home expansion of our laundry room, and I had another contractor due the spackling and taping, needless to say the previous contractor only did half the job. Bill came in and fixed the mistakes on a couple walls that were in bad shape and did a great job. While he was getting ready to do the work he got sick, but even with that he did a great job of communicating that to us and he was there on time when he said he would be there. I'm going to have Bill fix some other things around the house for me soon. Thanks Bill

Bill was contacted in March 2011 for an estimate to insulate and drywall a walkin bedroom closet. Bill responded quickly and showed up to provide the estimate to us with a promise to send a written estimate in the mail and to complete the work in May as he had a busy schedule at that time. We have had no response from Bill since his visit here in March. I called Bill's number and left a message in late May asking if he could call back and provide an estimate for when his schedule would permit him to do the work and received no call back. I called his service again on June 15th and a message on his phone stated that his business was closed until 6/20 and he would return calls after that date. I left another message and asked that he call me with an estimated time to do the work. Again, I have not received a call back. It is almost July and the work has not been done nor have my phone calls been returned. I contacted Bill because of his excellent report on Angie's List. His prompt resopnse to my request for an estimate was very encouraging and we were ok with waiting until May to have the work completed. His lack of response since then has left us frustrated and we find it to be very unprofessional. A simple return phone call is not too much to ask as we have been waiting for several months to have the work completed. Bill contacted me and after explaining the reason for the delay on the phone, I have rescheduled him to do the work starting July 11th. I will update the review once the work is complete. Bill completed the work and did an outstanding job. I would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: Gave us a verbal estimate to finish off walk in bedroom closet and repair a hole in a ceiling due to a leak. Bill repaired the ceiling and finished off the walk in closet. This included replacing insulation, sheet rock, tape, spackling and sanding.

The work has not begun yet therefore I cannot answer this question.
Description of Work: Bill came to my house twice, once to discuss what it was I needed done and again with a proposal. I gave him a down payment at which time he said he was going to order the materials. He did tell me he was going on vacation the beginning of June and therefore could not start until sometime after that. In the meantime I have purchased the other materials Bill said was needed and am just waiting to hear from him. I am happily looking forward to when the work will begin.

I selected Need A Handyman Service based largely on recommendations received from Angie's List. However, what tipped the scale in Bill Mardsen's favor, was both his obvious sincerity and his no-nonsense approach to his quote (I provided the paint, he provided the labor) and eventually to the work that he and his painter, Charlie, performed. In addition his pricing was very competitive. Charlie showed up every day early in the morning and worked steadily throughout the day. Bill stopped in almost every day (except for a couple of days when he was sick) to check in with Charlie and with me to make sure that everything was going smoothly.....which it was. Every day Charlie would ask me if I was satisfied with the work performed so far and if I had any concerns about anything that he had done. Also, at the completion of each day's work, Charlie made sure that his ladder, scaffold, and all of his brushes, rollers, and drop cloths were carefully removed and placed out of the way. At the end of the job, which took about two weeks, both Bill and Charlie walked the entire job with me to make sure that nothing was missed. The very few small items that I noticed during the daily reviews were corrected immediately with no questions asked. While the painting was being done, I pulled an old medicine cabinet out of the master bathroom wall and had a stair railing removed, both of which resulted in some needed plastering. Even though these items were not part of his original quote, Bill took care of them at no additional charge. One other incident occurred, which further confirmed that I was dealing with a professional: During the painting a cold water supply line in the guest bathroom came apart in a area that Charlie was working. Charlie immediately called Bill, who must have dropped whatever else he was doing and arrived at the house within the hour. I doubt that anything that Charlie was doing could have caused the problem, but Bill insisted on paying half of the cost of the plumbing repair simply because he felt that it was the right thing to do. I have absolutely no problem recommending Need A Handyman Service. Bill Mardsen is to be commended on running a fine service.
Description of Work: Painted most of the inside of my 1,900 sq. ft house, with two coats of paint. The work included minor plastering repairs and priming where needed.

His responsiveness is excellent; he came over a couple of times when I had little emergencies, and he came over that day. He does good work, and he does it reasonably and charges reasonably. He has fixed all sorts of different things for me over the last six months. I would rate him highly and would use him again in the future if necessary.

I think both Bill and Bob did a great job and at a reasonable price. Although they were very busy, they attempted to stay on schedule, including working late into the evening and Saturday. Both were courteous and professional and explained everything. They also made suggestions as the job went along and were very creative negotiating a couple of different situations. The porch looks great. I would definitely refer them to others and use them again when needed.

At first consultation, Bill convinced us that ceramic tile was cheaper and more durable for the bathroom. He referred us to a dumpster rental and laid out his schedule of what and when things would be completed.Bill told us the entire job would take 3 weeks and to allow for any unforeseen problems..He kept us well informed throughout the remodeling. Day one he said he would start at 8 am, 7:59 he was marching up our steps and proceded to tear out our tub surround. Bill was a stickler for punctuality and relentless about the details.Once he started to tear out some drywall to install a pocket door my wife and I decided to have him gut the entire room. Our man Bill took it in stride.I intended to paint the bathroom and install new molding but after seeing how well Bill was keeping things within our budget, I decided to have him do it.To get down to the subflooring Bill had to remove three layers of old flooring and the bathroom was looking like an archaelogical dig what with the old flooring patterns uncovered and the sixties style wallpaper hidden behind the ancient vanity. He took every precaution that any dirt or dust would be contained within the work area.We had a question about a plumbing or electrical issue and he had the answer within minutes. There's a saying about how useless giving advice is ; smart people dont need it and dumb people wont listen to you. We had an original plan , Bill put in his two cents and our plan has turned out even better than what we imagined . Honest, hardworking and affordable that just about sums up our bathroom remodeling dealing with I need a handyman.
Description of Work: We needed a much overdue remodeling for our bathroom. It is a small bathroom which we had an undersized vanity, a toilet that was a water saver and needed three flushes after every use and a tub with a budget tub enclosure. that had to be 15 years old.Our plan was to use a vinyl sheet floor replace the vanity with a more suitable one for that spot and sconces on either side of a new medicine cabinet.

Called Bill and he was here the next day to evaluate the project. Bill was excellent - he came out when promised, spent the time to discuss all options and was very honest. I opted not to follow through on the project based on Bill's recommendation that the door location itself would lead to an odd looking entryway and the room would feel a lot smaller once closed off. I plan on calling Bill first the next time we need something done around the house!
