I was contacted the day after I left a message to get an estimate. we scheduled a time and no one showed up after I arranged to be home. I left a message to call to find out what happened and to reschedule, but did not hear back. Responsiveness and showing up is the first test, and if that is not met, then I do not trust that contractor to do a job correctly.

I am an Architect that is currently working in construction management, so I am in the “business”. FLOORS by Jimmy Connors LLC was referred to me by a neighbor who had used them to refinish a wood floor in their home and had good results. I contacted Jim Connors and we met at my home for him to see the floor that needed refinishing and give me a cost quote. He gave me a cost quote of $575 which I deemed a fair price for the size and scope of the work. I accepted his quote and we agreed that I would contact him in the next several days with the exact dates in the coming weeks to have him perform this work on three consecutive days. He also said he would email a written cost quote. I never received any email cost quote from him! Four days after I met with him I received an email from his wife (business partner), saying their company policy requires a 60% deposit to secure the work on the scheduled dates I requested. I told them I would pay them the full $575 on the third and final day of their work, once they have successfully completed the project. Apparently, that was not good enough for Jim Connors, who insisted upon receiving a 60% deposit. As a result, I did not move forward with FLOORS by Jimmy Connors LLC. and am currently speaking with other floor refinishers who are more reasonable and flexible with their agreement terms and whose references are just as good. FYI - Most people are in agreement that deposits are understandable and acceptable when a trade contractor needs to purchase project-related materials in advance of the agreed upon start date. I strongly believe that NO deposit is necessary, nor should one be required if this criteria does not exist. For a simple floor refinishing project as ours, for this small amount of money, where the trade contractor already possess the necessary equipment for sanding and the floor and where finish materials can be purchased one day in advance, if they do not already have them in their own stock, why do they need any money upfront? If he had informed me of their deposit requirement when we had originally met at my home we could have had that discussion at that time and determined if he would make an exception or not. The result may have been the same, but it would certainly have saved us all a fair amount of time in the back and forth of tel. calls, voice mail messages and emails. I am very particular and selective of the trade contractors I hire for my projects and certainly for performing work in and on my home, as I would guess most subscribers to ANGIE’s LIST are as well. From the reference I had regarding FLOORs by Jimmy Connors LLC, Jim Connors may indeed do good work on refinishing floors, but he has a long way to go in providing a timely, professional and clear understanding of how he does business and his reasonableness and flexibility of his terms of payment, let alone providing written cost quotes….

It went really well. The floor he put in is absolutely beautiful and exactly what we wanted. There were some minor problems that we are still trying to get fixed. The quality of the work is second to none and the price was very good too. The house is actually on a slant, he evened it out. He did a fantastic job.

I was in Ohio preparing to move to a new home in New Jersey. I found Jimmy on Angie's List. He answered his cell phone and we talked about the process. Then we traded email to discuss a good time for him to get into the house to get an estimate. Due to some confusion with email, he ended up showing up at the house when no one was there. When I called to follow-up on the email and schedule a time with him, he said he had spent about 45 minutes waiting there the previous evening. I felt terrible but he was very nice about it, said he enjoyed the quiet to answer emails and he scheduled a new time. He met with my husband, provided a quote via email and then came out again on a saturday when I was in town to help pick color. he seemed very knowledgable, professional and courteous. I really wanted to use his services but his quote was a full $1500 more than the service provider we went with. You get what you pay for and I have a feeling Jimmy would have done a more meticulous job. I would like to use his service when I have less square footage to deal with!

Took about a week from start to finish, but it was well worth it. The crew was nice, and did very nice work.

Jimmy Connors was both professional and caring as a service provider. We worked together to find the best way to refinish all flooring on the first floor of my house. The rooms done were Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen and Family Room. Jim worked with us on finding the right stain coloring using his experience as what would work right with both our kitchen cabinetry and dining room furniture. His crews were punctual, respectful and careful of our furniture and overall home. I would not hesitate to use him again and highly recommend him..

Jimmy was friendly and willing to do whatever was necessary to make me happy, but there were too many bumps in the road along the way to my beautiful floor. Jimmy was chronically late, and I spent hours waiting for him. He had a subcontractor do the job, and the sub showed up an hour early (I was in my PJs about to jump in the shower...) We had agreed that the needed repairs (patches) would be done by taking wood from the closet, putting any "new" wood in the closet. The sub put the new wood in the middle of the room. It didn't take the stain like the old wood, and had to have additional stain to come close to matching. I can still see the difference, but probably no one else would notice? After the first and second coats of poly I had two places on the floor where the wood was rough and splintering. I was told by the subcontractor that this was acceptable on a pine floor. I asked Jimmy to look at it, and he said that he thought another coat of poly would take care of this, so we scheduled another coat. On the day the final coat was supposed to be applied, the sub came late on a Saturday afternoon and left his girlfriend waiting in the truck. Although the floor had been sitting for a week since the previous coat, and even though I said "You're going to vacuum, right?", the sub did NOT vacuum or dust the floor before applying the poly. And, if that wasn't enough, he "missed a spot" that was about 6" X 9". So, I had a week's worth of dust, dirt and hair enshrined in my new floor, and the missed spot was really obvious....Jimmy brought his own crew, screened the floor to remove the previous coat, and put on a new coat of poly. Jimmy says he wouldn't use that sub again (duh). My 1870 floor looks so much better that it looks like a different room, but there were too many hassles and it took a long time to get there.

They were very attentive to what our needs were. They looked into what we wanted and did it. The overall work was excellent.

The floor looks great! They removed the old carpet and padding and finished the floor in one day. We were very satisfied with their work and would definitely use them again.

Jimmy Connors was recommended to me by family. We were moving into a new house, and had planned to have Jimmy refinish the floors on just the first floor. But after we closed, we decided that the carpeting upstairs was dirty beyond repair, so we asked Jimmy to do the floors upstairs, as well. He was receptive, responsive, and prompt with his service, in spite of the last-minute curveball we threw him with the extra work. Not to mention, the sellers did not get out of the house on time, so Jimmy had to delay the job by a day, and he and his crew worked over the Memorial Day weekend to get the job done in time so that it would be cured before our movers came. Jimmy was easy to work with, and we are very happy with the finished product.
