Fraud Alert! Bait and switch practices. One year ago, Petitte Plumbing of Medford, NJ changed out an air conditioning unit at our home. I asked them to put in a Trane but when I returned home we were shocked to discover that they had installed a Carrier saying it would cost more if they put in the Trane. Never checked with me ? just unilaterally did it. AC worked for the rest of last summer until the unit started up in the spring of this year with a crash and bang. Repeated trips to the house led to no resolution. I asked Petitte to call Carrier about an increasingly loud noise that wasn?t present when it was installed. Petitte represented that Carrier didn?t care about the noise so I called Carrier in Syracuse myself to find out why. They asked for the serial number and told me that the unit that was sold to me as new in 2014 was actually built in 2001. When I confronted owner Joe Petitte he did not deny that he installed a 13-year old air conditioner and that he could sell it to someone else. We still don?t know if the unit was new or used but Carrier confirmed that it was 13 years old. In all fairness Petitte had done a pretty good job for us in the past 2 years, which makes this breach of honesty even more dangerous. We trusted them. By the way, Carrier was angry and encouraged me to file a complaint against Petitte Plumbing with the NJ State Attorney General?s Office Department of (what its official name is) which we did. But buyer beware of Petitte Plumbing. UPDATE: The loud, groaning noise finally stopped but for the wrong reason. The Carrier unit Petitte Plumbing sold me last July as ?new? at the ?new? price finally broke and had to be replaced. No warranty because the ?new? unit was built in 2001 according to Carrier. We had to buy an entirely new air conditioning unit this week from a reputable plumber not Petitte but unfortunately we had to pay for another unit one year later and are out the full price we paid Petitte last July for a 2011 unit that had no warranty. They can come off as helpful but selling old equipment as new is dishonest. Just sayin?. The State Attorney General has the case and is sending it for investigation.
