Roeland Home Improvers

I have posted two previous reviews about Roeland. In the first I gave them an F because of their lack of professionalism on not keeping an appointment. In the second I spoke about how we intended to use them after they called and apologized for their mistake. Since everyone deserves a second chance, we worked on the price and moved forward with the project. Our experiences with Roeland are bit of a mixed bag, which I'll explain. We finally signed the contract on June 21st and we were told the project would be done in 3-4 weeks.. I asked if that was realistic and was told it was, based on Provia's delivery time. The back steps were done about two weeks after we signed the contract but the balance of the work, (doors and window trim), was not completed until August 26th, over two months later. That's the bad news. The good news is that Roeland has some very good people working for them who do the actual work, and that's important. Andrew did a very nice job on the back steps, coming back twice to correct a problem we were having. Horatio did the doors and window trims and he was amazing, He came to measure the job, asked a lot of questions and was professional, very nice and incredibly talented. We had some trim done around the doorway and it turned out better than we imagined, mainly because of Horatio. In my opinion, he's worth every dollar he makes, and then some. The aggravation and frustration we experienced with Roeland because of the delays and miscommunication on what was to be done was offset by Horatio's workmanship, and we didn't think that was possible based on how we felt as we were waiting and being told it was another week, and then another. So Roeland is a bit of a mixed bag. The delays were very frustrating, especially since they extended out so far. But the ladies I spoke with at the office, Brenda and Tiffany, were always friendly, patient and professional. And the people actually doing the work, Andrew and Horatio were exceptional. It's sort of like the doctor who has no bedside manner but happens to save your life. At the end of the day you're happy with the result. You just wish the experience would have been more pleasant.

Overall, I felt more confident in Roeland than other companies I received bids from. Mike was/is great to deal with. The foreman and crew were excellent. They also have had good follow-up. I recommend only going through Mike and not with the staff in the office.

The job went extremely well and we call it a great success. The house looks better than it ever has. The key was that Roeland thoroughly knew the products he was recommending and using. This was the key to our choice of a contractor. He answered all questions including some of a technical nature, and everything checked out when we verified the information at the manufacturers' websites. The crew that did the job was very experienced, professional, polite, and were great communicators at all stages of the work. The office manager was always available via email and was very prompt at responding to questions, comments and input. She and the job foreman were very important liaisons as the job progressed. We would definitely use Roeland again for all home improvement projects. Highly recommended.

Roeland has been walking us through our "curb appeal" home improvement project. The finishing touches on this will be the windows and doors across the front porch. So far they have been out here three times, and are really helping us with keeping to a theme.

Everything has been great so far. We are looking to include some stone elements into our "curb appeal" project. This will include redoing the front porch and walkway, something that we would have had to wait on with the price of a competitor.

So far the salesman has been here three times, really helping us though the design process. We have shared pictures back and forth, and he has offered some great ideas to make a nice design even better. Their price came in significantly lower than a major competitor (even though they are using the exact same materials), and we are able to include even more aspects into this "curb appeal" project than we would have been otherwise able.

Each day they did a great job working, cleaning up as they were going. Their head foreman was friendly, and helped walk us through the process as they were "discovering" new things during the install. Overall, we were really satisfied with the end result, and I'm sure it helped increase the homes value by at least as much as the cost.

Both jobs were done in a very timely manner. The estimates were fair. The workers were always on time and very clean and knowledgable. They were also very polite. The product features were explained by Arnie Roeland very well. I am very pleased with all the work that Roeland Home Improvers has done for me.

As noted on my last report, my initial experience with Roeland was not good. However, following the posting, I received a phone call from Michael Damora apologizing for the misunderstanding and asking for the opportunity to visit and discuss our project, which included the installation of two doors, back decking steps and trim around our front windows and doorway. It's not every day that a company admits a mistake and decides to try and rectify the problem, which told me something about Roeland and how seriously they view their customers. MIchael was very professional and knowledgeable about the products he presented and visited us on three different occasions while patiently keeping in touch by email as my wife and I considered our options. We decided to move ahead in our project with Roeland primarily because of Michael's understand and professionalism. We signed our contract with Roeland on the 21st of June and are awaiting someone to come and measure for the doors. He estimated the project to be completed in 3-4 weeks so this is a work in process posting which I hope to update in the estimated timeframe and provide a final rating when the work is complete.

I left an email on a weekend and received the follow up call early monday morning. All my questions I asked during the phone call were completely answered. I set up an inspection/quote appointment for the following Friday. Due to some kind of computer glitich, all my customer information was saved but the appointment went unrecorded. I called Roeland that afternoon and when they understood what happened the owner of the company made a special trip to my house to do the inspection and quote. His prsentation was very thourough and answered all but one of the questions I'd written down for the inspection. The folder describing the products, services, and warranty conditions also helped to completely describe the products, and I was also told the time frame for the work as well as the crew structures for doing the work.

They were pleasant to work with. They told me that they would get right back to me if I called.

Arnie (the owner) knows more about his products than any other contractor we spoke to, hands-down. He was also the only contractor that provided exactly what we asked them all for, which was a single, detailed proposal that included the cost of each item proposed. At every step along the way, he was patient and explained to us the "why" and "how" of everything that he intended to do. We independently researched everything he said and became comfortable that we weren't being misled--Arnie is a straight shooter, and that's what we wanted. Roeland's crews were fantastic. They are courteous, clean, showed up early and worked late every day to get the job done even with the many rainy days that have delayed the project. Horacio, the foreman, is meticulous and has made sure that everything is correct. He was on the site every day, even tackling the most complicated aspects of the project himself. I have inspected everything they did every day, and it is always clean and precise. What's more, the crew is always ready with a smile and a wave. The project has been completed, and after a few rainy days I'm happy to say that there have been exactly NO leaks, no flaws, no issues whatsoever. The windows are beautiful, the masonry is the talk of the neighborhood, the siding is gorgeous, and the doors are amazing. I can't say that the entire project was without issue, as with all projects there were minor hiccups. What I can say is that Arnie never once got upset... in all cases, he took our feedback and whatever the problems were, he corrected the very next day. Everyone who worked on our job showed great pride in their work, and I'm happy we chose them.

We'd been considering gutter guards and new windows. The gutter guards that were installed have worked well and we were very happy with how well the installation was done. We have 2 dogs so were concerned about debris (metal, nails, etc) lying around that might injure them. Roeland's folks policed the entire area & made sure nothing was left from the job when they were done. When considering the windows, Arnie, the owner, met with us & helped us work through financing with a no interest loan that saved us some money and enabled us to replace more windows then we had planned on doing this year. The job took 1/1/2 days and his crew was great. They couldn't have been nicer and the foreman went out of his way to make sure they did all they could to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. We are planning on having Roeland do roofing, repair a deck and replace some siding and front steps. If their installation of the windows is any example of how these projects will go, we're sure we'll be very happy with the results.

Job was begun in December after snow had fallen and it was very cold. Two separate crews came on several days to complete work so I dealt with two foremen. Rigid foam was installed under siding and after job completion, I noticed in some areas, notably next to side door, that foam seemed to be missing. Also frame for hose spigot was installed upside down. Workers returned quickly to correct these issues satisfactorily.

I called him out to repair the window, the replacement was guaranteed at no charge. I was very pleased that he replaced the window at no charge. However, when he came out he noticed several other projects around my house that could be done, I only want the window work done and felt very uncomfortable having to fend him off for the other projects.

The company owner came to our house to review options and sell the products, in this case, a door and window. He took pictures of the outside of our house, which were used to show, electronically, what the new door and window would look like. The example pictures were emailed to us within a day. When we decided, the owner made one more visit to get final measurements. From that point on, we dealt wit the office staff who were very responsive, answering all questions within hours. The installation was done by a team of four. They completed the work in 5 hours. They were very efficient, courteous and neat. The installation was very well done. The cleanup was impeccable.

Michael Damora was the first person we met, and he showed us the product and gave us some ideas for what could be done with our mini-picture window in the dining room. We met with a few contractors, and a week after the first meeting Michael came back to take the measurements on our windows. The price was a little steep for us at first, but we knew we wanted to get the dining room window done no matter what. After talking about it we decided to get the rest of the windows previously described done. Arnie came to get the official measurements, and he was in and out in no time. After that it was just phone conversations that we had with the company. Every time we called, the people with whom we spoke were always friendly and professional. No question was ever too trivial. The day of the installation, the three men got to the house even earlier than we had expected and they got to work right away. They were fast and very polite. When the work was done they did such a good job cleaning that you couldn't even tell that anybody was there installing windows. Overall a phenomenal job and when we need future work done, we will be contacting Roeland before anyone else.

Job was given to another contractor that shows up when expected, did a quality job at half the price.

We are very happy with them. One of their workers accidentally stepped through the drywall in our dining room when they installed the thermal blankets. However, they were spot on and fixed it at no cost. Everything is in the way it should be. We are very pleased with them. They are good and I highly recommend them. I am not sure about the price charged by other providers.

It was great. We loved them. They were very polite, cleaned up and showed on time. I had the same guy throughout the entirety of the project.

Everything was fine and the windows have worked. I did have a little problem. They put in the windows during the winter. I asked them when they go to lunch to finish the window and not leave it open since I had the heat on and I did not want the window open for an hour while they were at lunch. They ended up leaving the window open while they were gone. Everything is perfect and I would recommend them. I would just make sure to be on top of them with directions.

The service went well. There was leaking and mildew around the window that was previously installed by another company. They resolved the issue by replacing it. We are very happy with their work.

They did exactly what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. They were timely with the work. There were a few nails we found in the yard after the work was done.

The second time I called them to do some work for my kitchen ceiling. They came out and measured and gave me a price and I hired them for the job. When they were to do the work, they kept making appointments and never showed up for 2-3 Saturdays in a row. They had several excuses. I told them to not bother and I had someone else to do the work for the ceiling in my kitchen.

They are a quality company and their prices are not low. You pay for what you get. The workman that came were very competent, did the work efficiently and cleaned up well afterward. In general, they use very high quality products. I am not looking for cheap prices. I want quality work and they delivered it.
