Brian was very professional. He looked in the attic briefly and examined the roof from the outside. The next time he came to the house he had aerial views of the property and an assessment of what he would recommend that we do to solve the air flow problem. I asked about the sealing of the four penetrations (The Big Deal) which were not included in his proposal and he added them in. He chose a color for the replacement shingles which we didn't think was a match and he agreed to drop off a board of shingle colors for us to look at. That was very helpful. After we signed the agreement and paid our money we waited and waited and waited. The story was that the weather was uncooperative which I understood was a legitimate concern when working on a roof. However the day that they came to work on the roof it was rainy and they worked in the rain. My husband was disappointed that the vents in the soffitts were drilled right at the rafter points after he had showed them where the rafters were in an effort to avoid this. The man who put in the ridge vent (Oliver I think) worked quickly and seemed to know what he was doing. He made some suggestions about future work that we might consider. They did a good job cleaning up. As they were leaving we asked about the four penetrations that were to be sealed (the Big Deal) and they didn't seem to know anything about that, but Oliver pointed out that he had sealed some penetrations in his work on the ridge vent.. Since they were soaking wet and it had been a long afternoon I didn't press the point. All in all they seem like a reputable company and they always responded to our questions. I would trust them to install a roof.
Description of Work: We signed up for the $149.00 "Big Deal". The big deal was to be an assessment of our roof and the sealing of 4 penetrations . The assessment showed that we needed more air flow in the attic so they put in a roof ridge vent and added some soffitt vents.

There are too many roofers who are hungry for business to trust in a company that can't be bothered to adhere to their appointments or return calls.
Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment for an estimate with plenty of notice as I liked the reviews that I saw for Roeland. The day before the set date, we received a call that they needed to reschedule. Not a big deal as things happen, and we again set the estimate appointment for a week later. On the date of the new appointment, they totally blew us off without even a phone call. I left a nice message at their office but haven't received a response to that either. I guess they are doing so well that they are able to turn away business, and believe me, I was very willing to hire them, provided their estimate was reasonable. Very disappointing.

It was an awful experience. The guy from Roeland Home Improvers was at the place for two hours and took two weeks to give me a quote. The price was too high for improvement of only the bathroom.

So sorry for the fact that it took time, but bath and kitchen bids are especially detailed quotes like Kitchens and Baths. To give us an "F" for a price and a job not completed is quite unfair (IMHO)

The company was good. The salesman was not very good. Everything else was fine. They came and dropped off the container. They picked up the container. Unfortunately, the salesman did not follow through and he wasn't very thorough. The clean up was not great. I am still picking up nails. The roof is great. I am happy with the roof, not happy with the nails, and the roof is more important. The salesman did not leave samples behind and I requested for him to drop off the samples. He completely forgot and dropped the ball on that one.

Brian Makarevich came to my house, speced out the work and gave me a price. The work to be performed was confirmed about a week later by Horacio, and we set a date for the work to be performed. The carpenters showed up at the time specified, got right to work, were clean and efficient and had the entire job finished and cleaned up within five hours. They did an excellent job, installing everything cleanly and professionally.
Description of Work: Roeland replaced my house's back door and six windows. Their people showed up on time on the day specified, did a thoroughly professional job and were done in approximately five hours. I'm extremely happy with the work and the quality of the materials used. I look forward to working with Roeland again on future projects!

I explained that the roof was high so they would need to bring a large ladder. The day of the inspection, they could only inspect from the inside which was from within the attic. I had to arrange another time for a roof inspection. The only feedback I got was that I should install some kind of attic fan to help make the roof last longer. Fair enough, I asked for a quote. The next day I got a $2000 quote for an attic fan install which sounded exorbitant to me. I wrote back asking for a breakdown of parts and labor and never got a response. About 2 weeks later, someone finally got back to me about the on roof inspection. I wasn't at the house at the time, but the gentleman on the phone said he would do it without me there and I would get a copy of the results. I never got this. I sent an email to the general email address on the website and got no response. Every time I call their phone # I get a generic message that their mailbox is full. Having a generic message is pretty unprofessional. Having a full mailbox all the time means you don't check it. Not having someone answer the phone is bad. I can't get in touch with anyone and can't get a response. Their customer service is really horrible.

We were 7 months pregnant with our first baby and decided right before the holidays to begin our basement renovation project. Our permits were approved a couple of weeks sooner than expected and had to find help moving everything out of the basement at the last minute. We booked a local concierge service to help us and they canceled two hours before they were suppose to arrive with the demolition crew set to begin construction the next morning to gut the basement. Frantically and hormonally distressed, I searched and called every local moving company advertised here and no one was available for the same day! I searched the term "odd jobs" and called several handyman and contracting services. Everyone scoffed over my request for help moving our basement stuff and then I found Roeland! "You know you called a contractor right?" After I explained our desperate situation, the young man on the phone said he'd make some phone calls and get back to me. He called back, said he was able to find a couple of friends to help out and that he would be there in a couple of hours. I was elated and relieved! Shortly after, I got a call from Arnie the owner. It turns out that it was his son who committed to helping us but wasn't able to come after all, that he personally would be there to help us! He arrived right on time with his other son and a friend and three hours later we were completely done, right at the nick of time! We were in the toughest of binds and Mr. Roeland and his sons went far and beyond their job descriptions to help out a neighbor in need. We are so grateful for their help and kindness. We had the feeling they were just trying to get rid of us and didn't want to honor the BigDeal that they were offering. He also told us that Angie's List set this BigDeal up and he wasn't sure where this came from. This was the first time we had looked into purchasing and BigDeal, and we were left with some very negative feelings about it. At this point even if Roeland agreed to come out and do the job for the price they initially offered we would not go with them. As mentioned above, the presentation was very good, very professional, excellent materials are used, and the warranty is very attractive. The overall score represents the feelings we had after the follow-up conversations/emails.
Description of Work: We were considering purchasing the BigDeal offered by this company for $8,888 for a Complete New Roof with a Lifetime Warranty. The BigDeal stated that they use GAF products and are a Master Elite Roofer. This BigDeal was for approx. 2000 sq. ft., and additional square footage would be $4.40 a sq. ft. The estimate was very professionally done, and the representative said the satellite measurement showed 2553 sq. ft., for a cost of a bit over $11,000.00 That was fine with us. We then received an email on Monday saying that the measurement was incorrect, and that our roof measurement was actually over 3500 sq. ft. and the cost would be approx. $14,000. We had an estimate from another company prior to Roeland, and that estimate had showed a measurement between 2000 and 2500 square feet. We decided to contact a satellite measurement company, who came up with the exact 2553 measurement that Roeland had told us initially. . When we told Roeland's representative this he said this was the footprint only and did not take the pitch into consideration. We then contacted the satellite company and asked them, and they stated that it does take the pitch into consideration.

The two men from roeland arrived on time and completed all of the work, including cleanup in about 5 hours. they were professional, knew what they were doing and did solved one minor glitch that arose because the carpeting in the entry didn't cover all the floor space when the old threshold was removed. they came up with a creative fix. We are pleased with the doors, the shutters and how they look. the workers were professional throughout and did the work as promised. the quality of the materials was as promised. We have now in the process of getting estimates for remodeling the kitchen and a bathroom. Once we have the estimates, we will decide whether or not to proceed with some or all of the work. the Roeland people who are doing the estimates are also very professional and were very open to what we wanted and took our financial constraints into consideration.
Description of Work: We had the front entry screen door, main entry door and side window replaced. Also 8 shutters for the windows on front of the house. We chose Roeland because of an offer sent by email from angie's List. it offered a new door, of good quality and all installation for about $2,000. We had the guy come out and give an estimate and found out that we could take the roughly $1,000 discount offered through angies List off of anything. so we ended up spending about $3000 for the screen door, entry door and the side window. We also got an estimate for and decided to have them do then replace the shutters at the same time. that added about$1000 to the total. .

Our roof was damaged by the hurricane so we called Roeland (along with many others) Their Sales Rep. Brian came over and gave a very good presentation. A little scripted but good just the same. He took the time to hear our needs and concerns and gave us his ideas of what would be the best thing to do. There was one or two things he was not to sure of so he returned later that week with one of the roofers. With the deal offered on Angie's list along with feeling comfortable enough with Roeland Home Improvers we went into contract that day. They were able to start the job earlier than expected which was great as it rained inside the house as well. I did however have a few problems with the roofers which eventually got resolved. Everything look good but we soon realized it was not the color we ordered. My wife had a color scheme going, which we had already started, and this completely through it off. The color was not even close to what we wanted. Roeland did apologize and agree to remove the entire new roofing and redo it with the right color. After a month or so the main roof was done and again we had a problem or two with the roofers (same guys as before). Than, it was not until the end of the day that the Roofers informed me that the back roof was not on their work order. I called Roeland and Brian called back. He insisted that flat roofing only comes in two colors - Black or White. He did not believe me when I told him the color was brown and as per the email the entire roofing will be redone. Tiffany (who we were dealing with once the job got started) called the next day to let me know she will be dropping off a sample book with all the different colors. We picked the color and it was installed a few days later. Two days after that the gutters were installed. I have to give it to Tiffany. Though all of this she stayed very professional, understanding, followed through with everything she said and kept me updated on everything. This whole event was a little nerve racking but Roeland Home Improvers did step up to the plate when most would of ran off. Even with everything that happen I would use them again as I know they are real professionals and truly care about their costumers.

work was completed in Dec 2011 but only one of the 2 skylights was replaced. Company came back in January and was anixous to satisfy me as the customer, and they replaced the scond skylight at no cost. Work was scheduled and completed on time. Due to fact that the ceiling was 26 feet I could not find a painter to do the job inside. Roeland was great and delivered the product which allowed me to paint before wood prior to the install date. Job was completely done after the install. Installer was very good as he framed out the skylight first and then had me touch up the paint before he put it up.

The owner is a nice individual and sells what appears to be a complete roof system. We liked the way they apply the different materials and believe the extra cost will be worth the investment, given the warranty. One of the reasons we chose this contractor was because they offered us the option to pay with a credit card or an interest free 12 month financing arrangement. After we agreed on the final price the contractor withdrew the option to pay with a credit card and the interest free offer. He stated that at the final price we agreed to he could not include that. I felt like it was a bait and switch tactic, but we went ahead with the job as it was not a deal breaker for us. We had some existing expensive copper work on our home and clearly spelled out in the contract that the copper flashing was to be kept intact and in good condition and be replaced in its current state. The workers removed the old roof without incident and applied the stated materials. Unfortunately, they did not replace the copper as per the contract. When the contractor was notified of this he stated that he would send someone over to correct the problem. That was six months ago as of this writing. After at least a half a dozen attempts to resolve this issue, it still remains unfinished and we are not hopeful that the contractor has any intention of correcting the problem. The company was extremely responsive before they were paid and has been almost non-resposnive since they received payment. The warranty includes an inspection from GAF to ensure that the roof was applied correctly. There is an exposed nail in one of the starter strips that the inspector did not see. We notified the contractor of this issue (which could cause a leak) and they have not responded. Overall, the roof appears to have been installed correctly and the materials appear to be of high quality, but the responsiveness of the contractor has been abysmal. They did not perform all of the services that were clearly indicated in the contract and paid for.
Description of Work: Our 19 year old roof was replaced. The shingles and underlayment were removed and replaced with GAF deck armor, GAF weather watch Ice & water shield, GAF Pro-start starter strips, aluminum drip edging, vent flanges and boots, cobra ridge vent, counter flashing in four areas and around the chimney, and GAF Lifetime Timberline HD Dimensional Shingles. The work is guaranteed under the GAF Golden Pledge warranty. In addition, a skylight was replaced as part of the roof project.

The representative that came over to give us the estimate was very friendly and helpful. The company itself had been highly rated, and we'd had bad experiences in the past with some contractors, so we decided to go with this company. We later discovered that the price on this job was much higher than many other contractors. But we did feel that we were getting high quality materials from a reputable company. I suppose that Roeland is simply one of the higher-priced contractors that you might find. The roofing material was delivered, but they didn't actually do the work for another 10 days. Communication was a little rough at the start of the job. The men that actually did the roof job didn't speak much or any English. I was a little suprised by that. However, I believe they did a good job with the roof, as well as with cleaning up afterward. I would consider hiring this company again, but I would spend time researching prices first, and get more detailed information up front.

We regret that this was a job we weren't not able to handle in a timely manner. The October snow storm inundated us with service calls from both existing and new customers who sustained moderate to severe damage. Unfortunately we were not able to take care of the member's needs. It is never our intention to turn away business or disappoint a potential client, regardless of the size of the job. We hope the member will forgive this incident and consider us in the future.

So easy that Roeland contacting me at work (not always by a phone) was the biggest issue. They even helped get some of the debris from the storm that fell on the roof onto the ground for removal.
Description of Work: I was very happy with the new roof Roeland Home Improvers installed in July, 2011. Unfortunately, on October 29th, we had _snow_ while most of the leaves were still on the trees. A heavy tree branch fell onto my electric service, tearing it off the side of the house and damaging the vinyl siding. Large tree branches also fell onto the new roof, damaging the shingles at the edge of the roof. I called Roeland while the power was still out and Arnold Roelend came to look at the damage and arrange repairs. Luckily, I had some extra shingles (only a few months old) and extra siding (only 24 years old), and they were able to fix things up so that I can't tell the difference between the roof/siding before the storm and after.

Overall the Big Deal merits and F because Roseland Home Improvers did not have the courtesy of responding to my inquiry. There is no excuse for this even if I did not qualify for the offer.
Description of Work: I recieved an emai from Angies List relative to a Big Deal being offered by Roseland Home Improvers. Specifically the offer was for removal of up to two layers of old roofing and installing up to 2000 square feet of new roofing for $8,888. I was not sure of the square footage and the number of roof layers presently in my home so I sent and email to Angies List. Angies responded that I should contact Rosleand directly with my inquiry. On On October 27, 20ll I recieved an email from Angies List stating that I should contact Rosland Home Improvers with my inquiry . I immediately emailed Rosland with my inquiry and to date have not received the courtesy of a response. The Big Deal has now expired and for obvious reasons I am no longer interested in doing business with Rosland. My philosopy is that if a contractor is not responsive prior to obtaining your business a potential customer should be well aware of what to expect once a contract is signed.

Response from Roeland Home Improvers
After investigating why our firm did not respond to the member's request I learned that inadvertently his email was directed to our Junk Mail Filter so we were unaware of his inquiry. We agree, there is no excuse not to call a potential client. It had nothing to do with qualifying, as there was no qualification other than being an interested homeowner. We have made several attempts to contact Mr. Rodriguez but he regrettably has not returned our call. We would surely honor the price and all aspects of the Big Deal should he consider contacting us.

I used Angie's List to select 3 contractors to bid on my gutters. Roeland was high bidder but i was impressed with the sales person's professionalism and knowledge (Tim Moore). Tim was back at the house twice before the job commenced, and their foreman (Walt) also came to the house on his own twice to check the job before they started. Streets in my town are narrow and Walt wanted to discuss how to situate their trucks to avoid issues with traffic, he wnated to discuss how to tie the leaders into my in-ground drainage, etc. Very thoughtful and discussed my requests and Tim's recommendations, coming up with a final gameplan for the installation. The crew was here for a full day, and worked hard for 10 hours straight. Great guys, experts in their craft. They pointed out the gutter work on other homes in the neighborhood so that I could see what incorrect installations look like. :) I walked around several times during the day and they were happy to tell me how they were progressing. In my final walkaround i pointed out a small change I wanted and they took care of it before they left. Great attitudes and I felt like they were committed to doing top quality work. I would absolutely recommend Roeland for gutters. They did a great, craftsmanlike job and the house looks much better!
Description of Work: Replacement of gutters and leaders for whole house; added gutter toppers in small section.

They started by setting up protective sheeting on the lawn and landscaping, took off the existing roofs, prepared the plywood surface and installed the new roof. They disposed of all debris as they worked, and cleaned up the yard after each days' work. Two things stand out on this job. First, they did an excellent job on the roof itself - highly professional and skilled installation. Second, the roof was in progress as Hurricane Irene was coming up the coast. As of 12 hours prior to this we had 2/3rds of a roof installed. Roeland sent the crew on a Saturday and they worked incredibly hard to get everything done and completely cleaned up prior to the event. It was a close call, but we were very pleased at their effeciency and responsiveness. The one issue that arose during the job concerned communications with the onsite crew regarding one of the roof vents, however, this was resolved satisfactorily. We would definitely use Roeland again for home improvement projects, and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Roeland tore off two existing roofs, replaced damaged plywood, installed new roof vents, installed new roofing deck and storm guard, and finally, the new roof.

Things started out well when they had a lot of workers for the tear off. After that the job was left for 2 workers to do all the work. The 2 workers were here late finishing the job. We felt bad for them and even helped them clean up the job site, because no dumpster was brought to the site. They had to use their truck to haul away the materials.
Description of Work: They replaced the roof on our garage.

Response from Roeland Home Improvers
We spoke to the member and asked him why it took him a year to post his remarks. No calls were made during the installation or after to inform us that he was unsatisfied. We extended ourselves to the member in every way possible, we lent him, at no cost tools so he could dig footing for other work he was doing. We called the member immediately after reading this post. We spoke once but to date he has not returned our call. We welcome the opportunity to fully understand and correct any issues he may have.
