Great experience with owner Jack DeRosa from Essex Home Improvements. I had contacted Jack inquiring about installing a long transom and a picture window in an exterior wall. Jack got back to me right away and brought along a colleague (Jonah from J.Escoria Carpentry & Painting) to provide carpentry expertise. Jack was patient with my many questions and concerns and kept telling me, “don’t worry; we will handle everything” – which they did! The project was reasonably priced, completed in the promised time frame, and with quality work by competent and pleasant people. I am VERY happy with the finished product. I highly recommend Essex Home Improvements for any home improvement needs you may have.

Company honored roofing warranty without question and rather than simply repair leak, they replaced the entire office roof. I have used this company for home repairs more than 12 years and they have always been responsive, professional and delivered quality work.

The project went very well. The contractor was punctual for the initial estimate. They explained all of my options and helped in choosing new siding. The workers arrived when they were scheduled and the job was completed on time. I've been very happy with the completed project ever since.

After buying my first house in August, it became apparent very quickly that I needed new windows. Mark came out to measure and give a quote. It took me a few weeks to get the money together but I placed an order as soon as I was able to. Mark came out again to re-check the measurements. He is the nicest guy. In fact, I had a family emergency and was out of state for a few weeks and I trusted Mark to install the windows while I was away. My neighbors said I was crazy to let someone in my house while I was gone, but when I returned, not only did I have amazing new air-tight windows, but my neighbors had met Mark and his crew and took a card. They intend to use them too! I love using a family owned company and Mark was super nice and helpful and made me feel comfortable right away. The windows make a tremendous difference. I plan to use Essex Home Improvement for a few more projects around the house!

They were good.

Jack, the owner, gave us great ideas for crafting the design for our basement. Every detail was addressed by Jack, and, as always, he answered all of our questions fully and to our satisfaction. Jack's crew demolished and gutted our entire basement, took down walls, and created new ones. New louvered doors were installed for maximum ventilation of our heating and cooling unit, as well as a brand new drop ceiling. An electrician installed recessed lighting and re-routed existing electrical outlets. Plus, the entire basement was freshly painted! The entire project was completed in about three weeks. Once again Essex delivered as promised!

Jack, Mark, and the crew did an amazing job on our kitchen. They gutted the old cabinetry and appliances, gave great input in the redesign, and then installed our dream kitchen. As always, Jack was honest and his price is right. Thanks Essex! In addition, Jack, the owner, recommended to us a great flooring contractor to refurbish our 60 year old oak flooring and to install new oak flooring in our new kitchen. Also, Jack recommended an expert electrician to wire our entire new kitchen and to upgrade our house to 200 amp. Jack knows the best contractors in the business for all your needs!

Jack, the owner, came to the house and went through the whole process expertly and thoroughly. Jack answered all my questions and recommended excellent windows (Alside Excalibur). Mark and the crew removed our old windows and installed our new ones in no more than two days. We have first used Essex home improvement 3 years ago for Windows installation and some other carpentry work. After interviewing a number of respectable contractors we hired Essex to handle all of our projects planned for the summer. Composite deck, siding, gutters, patio and walkway. We wouldn't trust anyone else to do the work. All that was promised has been delivered! They are very honest and upfront, even if it is against their profit margin. No surprises, no hidden charges. We are looking forward to working with Mark and Jack on our future home improvement projects. You can't go wrong with Essex Home Improvements! Pickiest customer satisfaction guaranteed!!!

The service was fine. They came over showing us their products and then, we hired them. We will continue to use them in the future.

These guys know what they are doing. Jack the owner, is professional and courteous. We interviewed a couple of more contractors and selected Essex Home because they told things pretty much like they were without over promising. They are not the cheapest nor the most expensive.

The original work went OK. They seemed to be using subcontractors. The cleanup wasn't perfect, but was acceptable. They didn't end up having the kind of brick originally specified to match other brick on the house, but checked with us before making a switch. The visual difference is minor, and is not apparent on casual view, since the chimney is far from ground-level view (and the other brick) on the third-story roof. Payment for the work was as originally estimated. Follow-up after the original work has been poor. The chimney leaked during Hurricane Irene in August 2011. If it leaked before that, we didn't notice. It was noticeable during Irene. The surface of the chimney inside the attic was damp, as well as the surrounding carpeted floor. On a lower floor, paint was bubbling up on top of the plaster surrounding lower parts of the chimney. Given the severity of the storm, needing some type of follow-up work on the chimney didn't/doesn't seem unreasonable, or necessarily indicative of poor quality original work. We contacted them after Irene to let them know about the leaking, indicating that we'd be happy if they got to us whenever they could, understanding that after the hurricane they had customers with much more urgent issues than ours. We followed up a few months later when we hadn't heard from them, figuring our request got buried in the midst of many others. They did meet with us once after that, but didn't bring a ladder, so weren't actually able to get to the chimney to investigate the issue. We set up a follow-up meeting time, they showed up 10 minutes early, before we were back from another meeting we had told them we'd be attending beforehand. We saw them driving away as we were returning 10 minutes before the agreed-upon meeting time. We tried contacting them one more time, but didn't succeed in having them come out. Then we gave up. Our impression from this experience is that they're only interested in working on relatively big-ticket items, rather than smaller maintenance/checking, even for their own prior work.

Final result was excellent. Most of the work was done by a subcontractor. The Essex Home Improvement manager missed second appointment with me..had to call him. Price was higher because I chose commercial grade roofing.

.Everything went pleasantly well. They were contacted after a contractor Jerked us around since after the storm. The price was the best we found for the quality of work we required. Yes we recieve many lower quotes that was too good to be true. Very professional! We plan to use them in the near future to replace ceiling and sidewalk.

Excellent work, great people would happily be a reference for them in the future.

This included cleanup, and disposal of debris. They swept the property for nails 3 times, and also got the permits so I didn't have to do it myself.
