We found Jim Toner, owner of Triumph Construction through Angie?s List. We were impressed by his reviews and interviewed him to repair our Hurricane Sandy damaged house. Jim replied to our query promptly and met with us to review our damages and discuss the project. We received a written, detailed proposal within days of our meeting. We were impressed with his professionalism and empathy at our situation. Unlike some other contractors we have talked to and heard about, Jim didn?t seem to be looking to profit from the problems of others. After having several discussions with Jim about the project, we made the decision to hire Triumph to perform the work. In addition to hiring him ourselves, we recommended him to neighbors who were also flood damaged. Jim has performed work for our neighbors and they also were very pleased. The scope of work on our house was rather large and included multiple building trades. Due to water intrusion, we had to gut the floors and bottom 2 feet of drywall on the entire first floor and garage. In addition to the flood damage remediation/renovation that was necessary, we elected to perform some upgrades that we had been contemplating before the storm. The areas that were worked on included two bedrooms, a craft room, a full bathroom, entry foyer, utility room and garage. The tasks performed by Jim and his crew included replacing drywall, removing and replacing all interior doors, and removing and replacing all interior trim. Jim also performed the demo of bathroom down to the studs and arranged to have an old plumbing leak uncovered during bathroom demo repaired. He also repaired a rotted framing member from old plumbing leak. After this, he renovated the bathroom, which included an upgrade from a standard bathtub to a Jacuzzi tub with a heater. We also added a window inside the tub/shower area (the original bathroom had no window). The exterior of our house is sided with a plastic siding that mirrors the look of cedar shakes. I was worried how the finished window would look but Jim trimmed it out perfectly and it matches the trim of the original windows and looks like it has always been there. Jim was very open to our changes/additions to the scope of work for the project, and was always able to develop a plan and solution to all of the additional work we decided to have done. While the house was ripped apart, we asked Jim to make a couple of changes in storage areas to fix issues that had always been an annoyance. We had the swing of one closet door reversed and moved a wall in between two closets to make better use of storage in a walk-in-closet. Jim built something in my laundry room that helps with storage of cleaning supplies. In a magazine, I had seen a built-in shelving unit that made use of the hollow space inside a wall and wanted something similar for my laundry room. Since half the drywall had been pulled out anyway, it seemed a good time to try to get this done. I spoke to another builder who couldn?t understand what I was trying to accomplish and wasn?t willing to try to build this. Jim understood what I was trying to explain and got it done. In fact, the work was so perfect its magazine worthy. I was looking for some functional shelves and he gave me beautiful finished carpentry. Jim also pulled out some impractical old cabinetry in the laundry room and repaired the drywall, spackled wall and painted the entire room. We had discovered during the renovation that a prior addition to our house (a small room that I use as a craft room) had been built over a crawlspace with no access. We had to cut a hole in the craft room subfloor to gain access to the crawlspace so the wet insulation could be pulled out and the space dried. We weren?t sure how to proceed with the repair since we didn?t want to close it back up in case we ever had to get in there again. Jim came up with a solution. When he installed the new porcelain floor tile, he fashioned a trapdoor with a clever pull up handle. Hopefully we?ll never have to use it, but it?s good to know that it is there. Jim finished up by painting our entire first floor (walls, ceilings, doors and trim). The painting was excellent. Jim also made recommendations as we recovered from the storm to help us mitigate damage and prevent problems from the storm damage in the future. This was information he knew from the work contractors had done after Hurricane Katrina. For example, he shared with us information about how to avoid mold damage and electrical fires caused by flood waters. And he recommended that we have all the subfloors and wall framing members screwed down as the original nails and screws holding them were submerged in flood water and were rusting. He learned that many homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina ended up with squeaky floors and unsound walls years after the storm as the rusting screws gave way. And to confirm that he wasn?t making this up to inflate the job, he only charged a minimum amount to secure all our subfloors and walls on the entire first floor. Jim kept in regular contact during the project, keeping us informed of any progress and issues. He also spent quite a bit of time during non-normal business hours at the house. He was aware how anxious we were to get back to normal and was always willing to work late or on the weekends to accomplish this. At the same time he was very respectful of our weekend hours and always made sure to check if it was OK if he or his crew would be there until late on a Friday evening or early Saturday morning. Jim made some important suggestions along the way and took advantage of any deals available to him to make our job better and cost the same or less. For instance, he came upon an opportunity to purchase solid doors and was able replace our original hallow doors at no additional cost. Jim and his crew were always willing to help us recover from Hurricane Sandy in any way they could. When our town posted the deadline for putting out Hurricane debris we had not had the time to dismantle and cut up our above ground pool and large, heavy garden planter box that the hurricane had destroyed. It was New Years Eve weekend and we had no idea how we were going to get this done. On very short notice, the guys from Triumph dismantled the collapsed pool and planter and got them to the curb before the deadline and for no additional charge. He and his crew are perfectionists and took great care to make sure the finished product was beautiful and that we were happy along the way. We could not be more pleased with Jim and the work done by Triumph Construction.

Found Triumph on Angie's and selected them based on the reviews. I promptly got an appointment from Nikki, for a Saturday, at our shore house, for an estimate on post Sandy work, new doors, drywalling, insulation, new subfloor etc. The person who showed up was Jim's retired father, who promptly told us he was just there to prepare the estimate, temporarily helping his son,and because he was retired, we really couldn't ask any other questions about the work. Its been 3 weeks, and not a word. Not an email, or a written estimate. So disappointed. I realize the contractors are so busy down the shore, but the lack of response is very unprofessional.

I called the number from Angie's list and got Nikki (sp?) on the phone and within a day I had an appointment to have Jim come out to the house. This was in early December, 2012. Jim came out and actually seemed to get excited about doing the work on our garage which made me feel good because this was the first contracting company we had ever used, and as new home owners that can be a scary thought. He laid out in black in white how he was going to get the job done and explained to us, step by step, how much time each piece was going to take. For example, gutting the interior would take two work days, insulation would take a day most likely, sheet rocking would take 2 days, etc. Jim gave us a quote for the work and there was not an additional penny that I owed him by the end of the job, which impressed me because he did go above and beyond. He had his workers out in our garage as much as needed in order to have the job done right. One thing I should emphasis is that the work started 3 weeks after hurricane Sandy and went straight through the holidays. You can imagine how ridiculously busy all of those workers were, yet we never felt forgotten and I never had a chance to look out the window and wonder whether stuff was getting done. The end result is that the inside of our garage looks wonderfully refinished. There are things my husband and I will need to do in the future, for example; replacing the roof sooner then later, eventually replacing the garage doors entirely, epoxy the floor in the springtime when the temperature allows it. Jim didn't push and say we needed to have these things done asap, or force us into having him do it for additional money now. He gave us a comfortable estimate of how long the roof was going to last and told us how we could check and see when it couldn't be pushed off any longer. He also weatherstripped the garage door in order to give us more coverage of any gaps that the old doors have. Jim has definitely been upfront with us about the cost of having certain things done and how we could save any money that we could. During the process I also approached him with a couple of things from our home inspection that we were told should be taken care of. The main one being insulation needing to be pinned back up in our crawlspace. He didn't hesitate at all and said he would absolutely take a look at it. Overall I was very impressed with the work done and I definitely felt the pricing was fair, especially once I saw how much effort he put into the work he did. Due to weather making paint drying and tapping difficult--during a wet and cold spell-- we were quoted having the job done in 3 weeks and it took an extra 4 business days. We were very impressed, also, with his constant contact. Any time there was a problem or a delay we would hear exactly what was going on from either the worker at our house or Jim himself. I probably got progress updates directly from Jim once or twice a week if not more, including in the 10 days before work started. I highly suggest using Triumph Construction. They made the process very easy and straight forward for us.
Description of Work: We just moved into a house in Bayville in September, 2012. The house was redone but the detached two car garage was in terrible shape with drywall falling off and insulation spilling onto the floor with entry points for animals in the exterior, and their nests tucked into the insulation. Jim and his workers ended up doing extensive work including; Gutting everything out down to the bare beams, insulating, drywalling, spackling and tapping the drywall, having custom shelving installed made of solid wood, painting, attempting to fix our old propane heater in order to save us money, removing a giant wood stove and patching the corresponding hole in the roof, installing locks on our two doors, installing a new lock-and-key exterior door, personally putting in some millwork to make the place look more 'finished', and setting us up with an electrician who will be finishing the work within the next couple of weeks.

Jim's estimate was in line with the others we received. The work was done as well or better than we expected, and the final price was as expected from the estimate. Everything was professionally done, and Jim did not leave until he had addressed some small concerns we had when the job was done. He always returned phone calls, and took whatever time was needed to respond to any questions we had.

Everything went great! Jim and his assistant, Junior, could not have been easier to work with, as well as having been extremely professional. From the moment we found Jim on Angie's List, he was responsive and always a pleasure to deal with. Jim returned our initial phone call the same day and set up an appointment to come out to see the work we wanted done. He was polite, punctual, examined the situation carefully and offered several options on purchasing the double door unit. Jim's wife Nikki corresponded with us via e-mail to make sure we got exactly the door unit we wanted. When the door unit was delivered, Nikki promptly scheduled us for installation. Jim and Junior showed up right on time and did a beautiful job installing our bedroom doors! We also had the triple door unit in the living room which leads out onto the deck. A different contractor had installed the unit 2 years ago and did a terrible job (unit was not plumb, door pan was botched, among other things). Jim and Junior removed the unit completely, had to reset the framing, reapply protecto-wrap, and make a new door pan. Once the rough opening was set, they did a dry fit (which was a challenge because the unit is extremely heavy), and then prepped the unit for installation. We're extremely happy, the doors look great, and finally after more than 2 years we are able to paint around the unit and finish it off with trim! We have a number of other smaller size jobs that need doing here and we will definitely be hiring Jim to do the work!

Jim came and gave us a very clear and concise estimate. He started and finished the job in a timely manner. He worked with us from start to finish and answered any questions we had along the way. My wife wanted several upgrades to the bathroom and Jim worked everything out with us from beginning to the end. The price was great too! I want to express my appreciation to Jim and Nikki for being kind and considerate throughout the process. Triumph did an outstanding job on this project and I cannot thank them enough. We love it! Bravo!!!! Triumph will be the first one I call for future building needs/projects.

.Jim came all the way from Forked River to Middletown (Monmouth County) to replace our deck. Jim showed up when he said he would, quoted us a reasonable price, and worked with us through several iterations in the planning stage to make sure we got the kind of deck material that we wanted. We made some changes to the stairs as the deck was being built based on Jim's suggestions. His suggestions were spot-on. Some of the post caps looked like they were a slightly different color in the sunlight (probably a different batch) so Jim got them replaced. One of the positives of using Triumph is that Jim is there every single day. He isn't just an order-taker who sends a separate crew to do the work. He has two carpenters that work with him on an ongoing basis. I liked the way that it is the owner and his well-established crew that do the work. It shows in the quality of the work. Jim kept us in the loop as he went along and worked *hard* every single day. (One day I think Jim was there 12 hours to make up for the time missed due to Hurricane Irene.) The result is a *really* beautiful deck. Even the Middletown inspector thought he did a great job! We will definitely use Triumph again. Hire this guy. You won't be disappointed!

Our experience with Triumph Construction was an absolute pleasure from start to finish, and you don't hear that much about contractors! Jim showed up to look at the job exactly when he had committed to, and on a Saturday. He was extremely personable, knowledgeable and professional as he went about examining and measuring the work to be done. We got a very good vibe from him right from the start. Within 48 hours of his visit, we received an detailed proposal via email, offering several options for our back porch and a good suggestion for our front door. Working with Jim and Nikki by phone and email, we finalized our choices and were put on the work schedule. Jim and Junior arrived early on the appointed day and immediately began removing our front door. Being an old, crooked house, they were thrown a few curveballs, which they competently addressed, cutting no corners, until the door fit perfectly and looked great. I might add that they also cleaned up impressively as well! The door that was supposed to take them a few hours took all day, with the problems they had to solve, and they were cheerful and professional throughout. They were back early the next day to put some finishing touches on the door and begin replacing the rotten old decking on our back porch. I work close to home, and received a phone call from Jim mid-morning asking if I could run home and look at something, which I did. Having ripped out all the old porch floor, they discovered that all the supporting girders were rotten! Jim asked me if I would like them to replace the understructure for what I thought was a very reasonable additional price. I said by all means, and by the time I came back again at lunchtime they had gotten the needed materials and were almost finished replacing it all. I was very impressed, as I'm sure many contractors would have simply slapped the new decking on the old wood and said not a word, making less work for them. Not these guys! When I got home after work, they were well along with putting the new, synthetic decking on and trimming it out so nicely. I had to go out, but my husband said they stayed til well past 7 PM, taking care of all the finishing touches and again, doing a masterful job of cleaning up. We're thrilled with the work done, and astonished to have a GREAT experience working with a contractor that does it all professionally. Additionally, there were no loooong gaps in communication, thanks to Jim and Nikki. We didn't have to chase them to get answers! I really can't recommend them highly enough, and have passed their name along to several people already. We're actually looking forward to our next project instead of dreading it. I wish them great success - they've earned it!
Description of Work: Jim and his VERY able assistant, Junior, removed our old front door and storm door and replaced them. They also removed old decking from our back porch and replaced the underlying girders and the decking itself.

We were 100% satisfied with Jim's work and his professional work ethics. He counseled with us through out the project and kept us aware of any issues that came up along the way. Jim and his assistant were respectful and considerate through out the day while working in and around our home. Both he and his wife Nikki were very good about communicating and keeping us informed as to the status of materials being delivered and when they would be arriving to start work. Overall this was an EXCELLENT experience and the price was more than fair. We will definitely be contacting Jim for future projects around our home. In a time when it's hard find businesses that care about customer service and/or customer satisfaction, it was clearly a priority with Jim to make sure we were satisfied with his work. It has been a very positive working relationship and WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRIUMPH CONSTRUCTION, LLC (James Toner) P. Sheppard of Toms River
Description of Work: Exterior wall of back bedroom had severe wood rot. Jim and is crew had to take off the exterior siding and replace wood frame, plywood, drywall and put in a new window. In another bedroom we had him enlarge closet entry from single door to two-sliders. Installed a new steel entry door from our laundry room leading into the garage.

This is the third project we have undertaken with Triumph construction. They previously repaired cedar siding and painted the entire house. As we were very satisfied with their work on the previous projects we decided to have them replace the roof. Jim was very patient in selecting a proper "weather window". The old roof was replaced on the first day and and the new roof and skylights were completed the following day. Another day was devoted to clean-up and touch-up. All work was done in a professional very competent manner. My wife and I are very satisfied with the outcome of the project. Our house has never looked better. I am happy to have found Jim Toner and Triumph Construction. I am sure that I will use them for future projects and I highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Met with Mr James Toner(Business Owner) initially for a detailed estimate of construction project (large shed/pool house. Plenty of time allowed by Mr Toner to discuss project at my house. all questions answered in detail. My husband and I are not in the construction business so we did have many basic and detailed questions. Mr Toner was incredibly patient with us right from the start. after two face to face meetings he brought over a written estimate. Again, we went over every aspect of proposed project, we were happy to sign on the dotted lign because we already had a very good feeling about the way he does business. initial down payment very fair amount. mr toner applied for appropriate building permits with the township and kept us in the loop constantly as the paperwork progessed. after receiving all permits Mr Toner started the project at exactly the time that he initially stated. Mr toner works with a partner. Both men very courteous, neat and polite.

The project went extremely well. Jim and his assistant Junior removed all exterior fixtures such as down spouts and carefully masked those that could not be removed. Drop clothes were used to protect all surfaces. Cleanliness seemed to be a key concern for Jim. After completing the painting everything was replaced and any incidental paint spots were removed. Jim was very patient working with us with color selection and spot painting various areas with sample colors. Jim checked with me frequently about any questions or concerns I might have and was intent on making me a happy client. He succeeded. He is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him.

We hired Jim, from Triumph Construction LLC., to replace the wood rails on our upper deck and stairs with vinyl and to power wash and stain our upper and lower decks. We had called a couple contractors including Jim. Only Jim returned our phone call that evening so we scheduled an appointment for an estimate for Saturday morning. He arrived precisely on time to survey the job. He was friendly, knowledgeable and had a good understanding of our ideas. He made some suggestions that would make the project more cost effective and aided us in deciding the total look of the decks. Overall, we felt very comfortable with him and were confident that he would complete the work to our satisfaction. He sent us an estimate quickly; it was reasonably priced and worked within in our budget. Knowing that we were under time constraints to finish the job as we were planning as we were having an event at our house in a few weeks he began the work the very same week and was, in spite of the rain, finished ahead of schedule. I must mention that the because of many rainy days the start of the project was delayed for about a week or so. But I also want to point out just one example of this man’s dedication to his work and a concerted effort in keeping his promise to have the project completed on time. He came over one day and power washed both decks in the rain. The task that took several hours to complete and got him soaked. He had done such a good job in cleaning the decks that we felt it a shame to stain over the natural wood; but the stain was already purchased and it looks great Besides his excellent work, we especially liked that Jim is personable, friendly and trustworthy. Even though we just met we felt very comfortable working with him. He communicated with us in a timely manner; never once did we have to call him for updates. On the days he worked on the project, he arrived when told us he would and put in many long days to complete the job. He paid close attention to detail and even did a few extra things not included in the contract and at no additional charge; because he believe it would more pleasing to the eye. He cleaned up the site well and hauled all the old wood away. We are more than satisfied with the way the decks turned out and we have received many complements from our neighbors and friends. He has certainly exceeded our expectations. Wish we had before and after pictures to post We will definitely call Jim back for several other projects we have in mind

It was great. Jim brought us 3 bathroom options that we could choose from. After we chose one in the price range we wanted to be in, our only other problem was we only have one bathroom so we were reluctent to remodel it. Jim assured us we would have a functioning bathroom, and we did. Every day at the end of the work day Triumph reset our toilet, and put plastic up on the walls of the shower so we could use everything. Triumph got started right away. They showed up on time, and kept my home as clean as possible. They gutted everything except the bath tub (which we kept to save money). They did some framing repairs and make a closet in the bathroom for us. They put new sheet rock up, and spakeled everything. They put down a new ceramic tile floor, and put ceramic tile in the shower. They installed a new vanity and top. They also installed beautiful glass shower doors. They finished up with painting, installing a mirror, installing towel bars, installing a toilet paper holder, and shelves in the closet. They put a bi-fold door in for the closet and a new 6 panel door for the bathroom door. Everything came out beautiful! We are so happy we chose Triumph for this job!
Description of Work: Triumph gutted the entire bathroom down to the studs. They installed new sheet rock, installed new tile flooring, installed a waterproof membrane for the bath/shower, installed tile in the shower, installed a new vanity and top, installed a new toilet, spacked, painted and made a closet for us in the bathroom.

Painting went very well. We had a small window to complete this project (due to our little one), so we needed 3 rooms painted and completed within 2 days. The guys showed up early, stayed late, worked really hard and got the job done. I was a little worried that the quality of the job would be compromised because of time restraints but it came out excellent. Jim and the rest of the company were excellent from start to finish.

It was great. I told Jim what i was looking for, and he showed up with a drawing of what he thought i would like. It was amazing! So much more then i hoped for. It has 2 rows. The top has 2 open cabinets on either side, and in the middle, my wine cooler. Above the cooler he made a wine rack. The bottom layer has 3 closed cabinets. There is crown molding on the top too! He finished it by caulking all the joints and nail holes, sanding it, and painting everything. This cabinet has completely changed the look of my kitchen/dining room area. We love it!!Jim did exactly what he said he would do. He showed up when he said he would, and left my house clean. Jim and his workers were very nice and respectful. I would recommend Triumph Construction to everyone!

When we bought our home we thought we got a pretty good deal on it...the only catch was it was lime green(actually lime green). Triumph was kind enough to paint the outside of the house a more reasonable shade of green. Neighbors actually came over to welcome us & sincerely thank us for changing the color while they were painting it! We decided to have all of the window frames, door frames, and trim wrapped in metal. What an improvement! The company and crew were excellent

I could not be more pleased with the outcome of our siding. I wasn't sure how it would look in the end since the original siding was so old and falling off, but my house is more beautiful then I could have imagined. The whole job went so smoothly and was finished faster then expected. The owner, Jim, was extremely helpful through every aspect of the job, right down to helping us pick the type & color of the siding, which to me was extremely difficult. Overall, Jim saw the whole project through as if he was working on his own house, putting hard work, and caring into every step. It is extremely hard to find a company who puts so much thought & heart into their work. But Triumph does exactly that, and we will continue to use them for any of our construction needs, and would recommend them to anyone.

We did both our bathrooms with this company and were very pleased. I wanted them to build a new deck on to the one we have but they could not because our old deck needed to be repaired. All and All Everything turned out great.
Description of Work: We hired Triumph Construction to build/ repair our deck. Project was a breeze, guys were great... On time and on budget.. Jim was very concerned with our overall satisfaction from start to finish.
