cabinet refacing

I went to Home Depot as I was looking for carpeting or something like that and there were two or three young people who were trying to solicit the business for their outside home improvement business and they told me that they had a special going on for cabinet refacing and there would be no charge to have an estimate done. My cabinets were 41 years old and then I thought I have to do something about it so I asked to send the guy out. The guy came out and he was little rough at first and he was measuring and this and that and the other thing and then he gave me a price and then he came down and he dropped the price two grand so I looked at my wife and said, "We should really have it done because we haven't had anything done here." and I didn't want to do a total renovation where they take the cabinets out and put new cabinets in. The price went from $8900 to $6800 because they had some kind of special going on so I signed up with him and then at first I picked up like a white finish up for the cabinets and he said what's going to happen is, we are going to have the tech guys who are going to come out and measure the doors and different areas that are going to be refinished. He came out (His name was Anthony) and he was excellent. He said, "You go on no where with this white?why don't you pick out a color?" So I picked out a color that's like a real light perch wood color and he did the measuring and everything. He was really good, really polite and a real nice guy. He had some ideas that were really good. This house is 41 years old and nothing was done with the cabinets and some of the doors on the cabinets are pretty large (like 2 foot across) and there were 5 of them like that. He said, "Why don't you get rid of big doors?...We could put 2 doors together and make it look really good." I said, "That's a good idea" and that's what I did and he did the measuring and everything. He said it will be 5 or 6 weeks before they are done because when you get a refinishing job from them, you get all new doors, new drawers and the only thing that he uses is the existing frame of the cabinet, but you get new knobs and everything. It was only 3 weeks up and they called up and they said, the stuff is all done and asked me when they could install it and I asked them to come out next week because I had to get prepared and had to take everything out of the cabinets. They came out on a Monday and there was this gentleman (Dave) who was from a place which is an hour away from here. He was a sub contractor for Home Depot and he was a real nice guy. He looked at the job and everything and said, probably some guys can get this job done in 2 days, but I am probably going to take 3 days or may be a little bit longer. I said, I don't care how long you take as long as you do a good job. He was an excellent craftsman and he took his time and he really did a nice job. I was more than happy with what was done. It came out better then we even thought. It worked out really well. The two guys, the measure tech guy that came out was great. He came in and he had a lot of good ideas and he was in the business for a long time. He didn't rush or anything and he said, "Why don't you do this?...Why don't you do that?..." and he changed me from going with white cabinets to the light oak and it looks so much better and with the doors instead of having the big doors, he split them and he said it is going to look much better. His ideas were good. The guy who did the work, took his time, he was really good and he was careful and he covered all the floors up and everything with clothes and all. I would without hesitation recommend them to anybody. The only problem is that when you get a job done from them in this area, you are probably going to have the same guy that came out to measure it. You might not get the same craftsmen to do the work. They work out of here and there might be 10 or 15 different guys that work for them. I looked in the paper the other day and it said kitchen cabinets refacing from Home Depot 10 by 10 kitchen (which ours is) is $3500 so I don't know about the price and I paid what I paid and I was happy with the price, but I don't know if I got ripped or what the deal is. The quality is really good. They did a good job. I would consider using them again in the future. I am probably thinking of getting carpeting and might go there again. The thing I liked about Home Depot was that this is the contracting company that works directly for them, but Home Depot was responsible and they called up and checked if the carpenter was there and what time he showed up and this and that and the other things.
Description of Work: I've had my kitchen cabinets refaced by Home Depot Inc in September.
