I went back into our message center for Dec 2014 and I do not see a message from this person. I looked into both of our email accounts for the entire month of December and searched by the person's name and date and I have no record of an incoming email. I am sorry she had a problem but I have no record of a message. We are not a mason and if she was looking for a foundation we would have referred her to a mason.

When we decided to remodel our lake house in early 2012, we met with six contractors. Dave was in the top two but we unwisely went with someone else. After firing this man a year later, Pavolony was our immediate first choice to come in and save the day but unfortunately, he had too much other work to begin the job in the immediate time frame we needed. This was deeply disappointing because his prices, creative ideas, professionalism and attitude were all fantastic and I would highly recommend him to friends. He is a great guy.

They were very nice and very professional. They returned my calls and gave me an estimate but they were very expensive. I found someone locally that was able to do the job at a 1/3 of the cost. They wanted to rip out the concrete structure and start from scratch. I was able to find a mason that just repaired work, they tried to convince me that I needed to do a bigger job and that repair wouldn’t work.
Description of Work: I wanted them to repair a concrete porch and put up new railing.

There's a big price difference between "repair" and "replace" At the time of estimate it was Pavolony's Consturctions Inc. determination that replacement was better suited for this job. We are a construction company not a mason. As to warranty issues, we could not warranty repair work done to someone else's work. We are concerned by the Quality grade of a D when we did nothing other than offer our option on how the job would be addressed by us, a construction company not a mason repair company. We take our customer service very seriously and this review concerns us.
We started our renovation project October 2011 with another contractor. We checked 5 of their jobs and thought we found the right contractor. When April rolled around and we were getting no where with the contractor we realized we picked the wrong contractor. We asked around if anyone knew a good local contractor and several people told us to call Dave Pavolony. We looked up his number and called. Dave came over within a few days of our call. He was on time for our appointment. We sat down and told him that we wanted to put in a new kitchen, take down walls, new windows in, new interior and exterior doors, a patio door, a deck, expand our shed, bathroom renovations, and lots of other little renovation around the house. He spend a lot of time with us and listened to everything we wanted to do. He never said what we wanted to do couldn't be done. A few days later he gave us an estimate. His estimate was extremely reasonable and far less then the other contractor. I then joined Angie's list to check Pavolony construction out.. Based on a gut feeling and recommendations from local people, as well as reviews on Angie's list we hired Dave. We never saw any of his work prior to hiring him. The other contractor had left us without water in our kitchen (a pipe broke behind a kitchen wall and the kitchen needed to be gutted to get to the break) and would not gut the kitchen for the kitchen company to measure and order our cabinets and fix the plumbing problem. Dave came in ASAP and gutted our kitchen and had the plumber fix our water problem before he was supposed to start working for us. He walked us through having our property surveyed, drawings we needed for permits, and everything and anything else we needed to do or have done. Dave isn't one of those contractors that gives his guys work and leaves. He works side by side with them and gets his hands dirty! Working with Dave and his guys was a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! It also helps that Dave and his guys have a great sense of humor and get along great. Pavolony Construction is: Professional, Honest, Reliable, ALWAYS on time, Clean, Great communication, Fair prices.........AND easy to work with!!!! There were never any problems when we wanted to add or change work. Dave discussed all options before work was done. He was a good listener as well and would be open to our suggestions and would problem solve with you to find the best solution. We were EXTREMELY happy with Pavolony Construction and would (and have) recommend them to anyone who is looking to for a contractor.
Description of Work: Work done includes: Gut kitchen Take down wall between kitchen and dining room New walls New kitchen New windows New interior and exterior doors Patio doors to a new deck New bathtub and tile New attic steps Expansion of shed (framing needed)

The Customer came to Pavolony Construction after starting their project with another GC. They were left in an awkward position so there were multiple meetings, phone calls and e-mails between Dave & the Customer before they even hired Pavolony. It was a difficult situation that took quite a bit of prep work before a hammer could be swung. But Dave knew he could help them out of their bad situation and get them the renovated home they wanted. This job has been a true test of a working relationship between homeowner and contractor. As an honest contractor we needed to prove that homeowner/contractor should not be an adversarial relationship but a true team working together for a new home space. After we got past that it turned into a great relationship and the new spaces prove it. We welcome the next project for them so we can show them it doesn't need to be an ordeal. The Customer did all the right things hiring the first contractor and it still wasn't the right fit for them. It is never a mistake to hire someone, but it is a mistake in not firing them. And then hiring Pavolony Construction.
The process started long before the actual work did but Dave was there to help us through the process of obtaining our variances and permits which were necessary to begin. With everything in place, we were finally ready to start. You hear everyone talk about what a nightmare living through a major renovation is but I can honestly say that Dave and his crew did everything possible to keep the disruption to a minimal. The majority of the work was completed on the addition prior to opening the walls. This really helped keep the disruption, inconvenience and "mess" to a minimum. Dave and his crew were always friendly, professional and kept a clean job site making sure that everything was neat and orderly and most importantly safe before calling it a day. As with any project, unforseen challenges tend to arise, but Dave always had a suggestion and was accommodating for those "we never thought about that" changes. The work on our house was complete in just over 3 months time, which meant not only did he deliver on time but was actually ahead of schedule. Pavolony Construction would be the first company I would recommend to anyone looking to do work on their home. The quality of the work is impeccable - even the inspectors would comment on "what nice work he does". Dave delivered more than I imagined. Looking at something on a blueprints is one thing, but seeing it all come together was truly amazing! Whoever said living through a renovation was a nightmare - obviously didn't have Pavolony Construction doing the work. Dave has given me a "brand new" house. Its hard to believe where we came from in just three months! All's I can say is I love my house!
Description of Work: In the fall of 2011 we decided to add an addition to our home, which would include a basement area, living room and dining room space on the main floor and an unfinished room on the top floor. After working with an architect to design the space, we began the process of interviewing contractors and compiling estimates to complete the work. We were looking to hire a company to complete the excavation, foundation, framing, roofing , siding, windows and sheetrock and spackling for inside. They would make the house "paint ready". In order to maintain our budget, we decided early on that we would complete the finishing work ourselves. After meeting with several contractors, we decided to move forward with the project and selected Pavolony Construction to complete the work. We selected Pavolony Construction because of our level of comfort based on our interaction with Dave Pavolony and his willingness to work with us. Dave listened to our thoughts, ideas and concerns, was enthusiastic about the work to be done, offered suggestions "to make it better" and continued to answer any questions we might have had during the process. I truly felt like Dave was someone I could work with over the next several months, which was extremely important to me.

The Members are a great example of a educated and prepared customer. They went into the renovations with realistic expectations and a clear budget. They realized it was going to be a working construction site and a partnership between builder and homeowner. They knew unexpected things were going to come up and that often changes need to be made to the original plan and they worked with us instead of against us. There were multiple phone conversations and e-mails between Member so everyone knew where we were at all stages of the project. Communication is key in construction just as it is in life. We would gladly do any further work for the Members. And if you wish to see pictures of their construction just go to Pavbuilt.com, Galleries, Cherry Rd Gallery page.

The project started pretty much on time, and for the most part we had very few minor problems during construction, nothing out of the ordinary. The project began in November of 2007 and was basically completed in February 2008. One of the most costly parts of the addition was the extending of out existing chimney and flue stack to accommodate the second level. The mason hired by Dave started the extension mid November, this included removing the top of the existing chimney, extending the flue stacks and finishing the chimney with cultured stone. With the winter approaching and the colder weather Dave advised us that the chimney could not be completed until the spring as cement can not be mixed properly if it is below 42 degrees. Our unfinished chimney was basically exposed for the entire winter, the mason Mike Togna came back to finish the chimney towards the end of May and completed it in June 2008. If this was the end of the story I would say that my experience with Dave Pavolony was a positive one, however it is not. On the morning of November 10 , 2009 we we awaken by a huge rumble, we actually thought it was an earth quake. My husband and I went outside to see that our chimney had collapsed,, into a pile of rubble in our yard. The fist thing we did as soon as the sun came up was to call Dave Pavolony, he promptly came to our house, along with mason Mike Togna and the architect Jason Nicholas, all three parties were stunned at what has happened, and as to how it could have happened. Initally the 10 foot extension of the chimney stood intact as it was bolted to our house. We then contacted our home owners insurance company, who sent out an adjuster. The insurance adjuster stated that an engineer would have to come out to inspect and determine the cause of the collapse. the next day we received a call from Dave, who assured us not to worry, that if our homeowners insurance doesn't cover the damage, his insurance would. The engineer from our insurance company spent several hours at out house, and took hundreds of pictures. Her determination was that the chimney collapsed due to a sealant that was improperly applied and left areas where water could seep in,,, over time causing corrosion and eventually the collapse of the chimney. The chimney began to collapse in the exact spot that the sealant was improperly applied. She also stated that the original chimney was not bought up to code, before it was extended. Thus our home owners insurance denied the claim. We then had a visit from an engineer from Pavolonys Insurance company , who spent less than 1/2 hour at our house, Daves insurance company denied the claim ,stating that the chimney collapsed due to corrosion over a "long period of time".Next we had an engineer from the Masons' insurance company who stated the same thing...both insurance companies denied the claim. Dave assured us that original chimney was in excellent shape as he had the best view from all sides as he tore off our original roof. He also stated he would never send guys up there to do the work if the chimney were not structurally sound, nor would he have went ahead and extended the chimney. In the following months my husband and I reached out to all insurance companies, and Dave, as to what we should do, no one would give us any advice, nor would they even touch our chimney. In March the remainder of the chimney collapsed into the yard, as well as the stone fireplace, into my living room. Dave Pavolony was hired by as as a General contractor, he was responsible for all his subcontractors and their work. My husband and I paid Dave close to $135,000 cash to do a job, what we are left with is tens of thousands of dollars of damage, a home that has lost considerably amount of value due to the damage, and a huge hole in the side of my house. I will say that Dave was disappointed that the claim was denied by all 3 insurance companies, and that he felt badly about what had happened, however he has made no attempt to fix this huge problem, nor has he accepted any responsibility. The fact is that stone chimneys just don't collapse, and if the chimney was not structurally sound then it should not have been extended until it was sound. Some may ask why we have waited so long to voice our opinion on this, and the truth is we really believed that Dave would do the right thing, and he has not. After spending $135,000 to add on to and improve our home my husband and I can't afford to fix it, and we can't take get any equity out of our home to to its current condition. We did briefly converse with Dave regarding possibly having to sue him, ( a route we didn't want to go) ,Dave stated that would take years and years, and tens of thousands of dollars. I will post the pictures of my home after the addition, in which you can see the unfinished chimney. You can ao see pictures of the chimney after the collapse. Dave Pavolony did not do the chimney extension, however we hired him as the general contractor, thus he is responsible for all aspects of the project............................................ Response to Pavolony Construction Inc... - We paid Pavolony Construction only, we did not pay Mike Togna, nor do I know what Dave Pavolony paid him to do the job. -I did not mention my neighbor and the rock hammering ,as that took place 2 weeks prior to the collapse, and not once was that mentioned in any report as to probable or even possible cause for the collapse. The hammering did not last for a week, but a day. If this was ever considered to have caused the collapse , then it would have been looked into by all insurance companies involved. My neighbors had a new driveway put in, not a septic system. No surrounding homes,, or streets were damaged due to the rock hammering. - There was never any mention of a 4 way split to fix my house, had there been this is something my husband and I may have , or still may consider, depending on the terms... -We did protect out home from further damage, after weeks of trying to get some answers as to what to do, and how to protect our home , and getting no answers we contacted Dave Pavolony , who agreed to weather proof and protect our home...we paid him an additional $378.00 to do this. He assured us that the remainder of the chimney was going nowhere....Please note that this was a few weeks after the collapse...not months..and it was NOT at Dave Pavolonys' expense...but ours.... -We never received a check from Dave Pavolonys insurance company for $1925.00, if Pavolonys insurance company found they were responsible for the damage done to the oil tank ,due to the chimney falling on it..then why would they not be responsible for the chimney falling??????? This is certainly news to us, and as for the check...it never reached our pocket. - Our homeowners insurance covered the oiltank as it was hit by a "falling object" we received $800.00, the actual cost for the oil tank was $1800.00, however we have a $1000.00 deductable. I have absolutely no idea what Mr. Pavolony is referring to, regarding a check for $1925.00. - I did call Dave Pavolony, and I probably was screaming..and yes I was frustrated...however I NEVER said I wanted to ruin his reputation,in fact it was the exact opposite, I told Dave not once did we bad mouth him, I do feel that Dave is a hard working man.I told Dave that many , many people, including other contractors told us we should slam him, but my husband and I really thought he would do the right thing, and fix the problem. He is infact responsible for his sub-contractors, and their work, the work was not done correctly,as I stated above. We hired Dave Pavolony as the GC , and didn't attempt to hire out own contractors. We trusted him, and were sure he would hire competent , experienced workers. We didn't hire the mason Dave did. -It seems like my husband and I are the only people who suffered any loss, the one party who had nothing to do with the chimney. Dave Pavolony didn't have any trouble taking our money, yet he has taken no responsibility, for this mess. - I will agree with Mr Pavolony in that we are nice people.... we are also reasonable people, all we want is for our house to be fixed, and to get what we paid for. Nothing more - I will also state that I am truly surprised at how Dave Pavolony has handled this situation, never in 1 million years would I have thought I would find myself in this situation. - My review is based on facts, which I have all the documentation to back . - I agree with Dave in that his insurance company SHOULD have covered the loss..but they didn't ,, but I also believe Mr Pavolony should fix the problem and then if he wants to he can take it up with his insurance company. Mr. Pavolony is also correct in saying that I am frustrated, who wouldn't be, he drives by my street every day, on his way to work. - I think it is VERY important to know that if you hire PAVOLONY CONSTRUCTION , and some thing goes wrong in our case very wrong, Dave doesn't seem to feel it is his responsibility. - We paid Dave in cash , on time. and in full, and he made sure it was on time, as he should. -This review is not an attempt to ruin Daves reputation, its is my fact based account of my experience with Pavolony Construction, I would hate to see any other home owner go through what we are going through. - Should the situation change, and Pavolony Construction do the right thing, I would be more than happy to update this review. -
Description of Work: My husband and I hired Dave Pavolony as the General contractor, to add -a level to our home. Pavolony Construction was responsible for the demolition of the old attic and roof as well as the framing of the addition. As the general contractor Dave sub-contracted all other work including plumbing, electrical, siding, and mason to extend our stone chimney. Dave was not the least expensive, however my husband and I felt that his reputation as a good and honest business man spoke for it self. We had seen too many construction projects gone wrong, Dave assured us that he stood behind his work.********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* --------------------------------UPDATE 6/5/12---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I find it interesting that Pavolony Construction documented that his insurance company paid out $1925.00 to cover our crushed oil tank(due to chimney falling on it) yet he faxed you a hand written document stating that this went to arbitration, and his comapny was found to not be at fault, (again news to us) and it really makes no sense. As I have stated before I NEVER thought I would find myself in this situation, as we DID trust Dave Pavolony, and felt confident he stood behind his work, and that of his sub-contractors. It is true we haven't fixed out home yet, it is impossible to get equity out of our home in its current state, one would think after paying a GC the amount of money that we did ones home would increase in value, not the case here. Mr Pavolony has stated in the past that he would again reach out to his insurance company, it seems this hasn't happened and the only way he will fix the damage to out home is if it is covered by his insurance company. This has turned out to be another case of home construction gone bad...very bad. Mr Pavolony got paid a large amount of money from us and that seems to be all that matters to him. I have heard form other contractors in the area that the mason Mike Togna, is an experienced mason, however the "kid" he hired to help him do the job was not. I am sure Togna was the least expensive mason, which is why Dave Pavolony chose to go with him, plus the fact that they are very good friends.

Response from PAVOLONY CONSTRUCTION INC
Yes, my company, Pavolony Construction Inc. was hired as the GC on 9/11/07 to add-a-level and extend a chimney 10-12' according to a town approved plan drawn by architect Jason J. Nicholas. The chimney could not be completed in the early months of 2008 due to cold temperatures. It remained in use and exposed to the elements because the of it being their furnace flue. It was finished in June 2008. The add-a-level (which they have no complaints about) were constructed according to the town approved architectural drawing by Jason J. Nicholas and passed all final inspections the first time. When the customer called my office on Nov. 10th 2009 to report the old part of the chimney had collapsed I immediately reported to the scene, notified the mason who had preformed the work and Jason J. Nicholas who designed the project. Upon arrival, I cordoned off the area with safety tape. I have fully cooperated with the customer and the insurance companies representing the homeowner, mason & my company. For reasons I still do not understand the architect did not have his insurance company do a site visit. Each of the insurance companies came to a different conclusion as to the cause of the collapse and each denied liability by the party they represented. I had proposed to them that my company fix the chimney and share the cost 4-ways with my company, themselves, the architect and mason. There was no agreement between the parties to this reasonable solution. After months of the homeowner failing to protect their own property, I tarped the chimney area at my own expense to protect their home from the elements until they could decide what to do. The customer have miss-stated the costs. The actual labor and materials paid to the sub-contractor, Michael Togna Masonary was $4,000. Our insurance company did find that the damage done to the oil tank to be our responsibility so they issued them a check for $1,925. In my opinion, the cause of the collapse of the orginal part of the chimney was probably long term corrosion. The chimney was probably built in the late 1950's. We don't know if there were regular maintenance and flue cleaning. 3 months of exposure would not cause the collapse. the newly built, extended part of the chimney remained in the air and attached to the add-a-level following the collapse of the original part. Finally gravity had its way and the new part collapsed too. The customer fail to mention that just prior to the collapse of the old chimney, directly across the street from their home another homeowner had a track hoe with a large rock hammer hammering at ledge rock for at least a week's time in order to accommodate a new septic system. In my opinion, it is very likely those hours of hammering at the ledge, which probably crosses her property, is a contributing cause to the collapse. The customer's are nice people and I have gone out of my way to help them. I have never failed to take their phone calls - even when the customer has screamed at me threatening to ruin my reputation in a town where I have lived and worked for over 25 years. This report is a fine example of that. This was a terrible accident, but the problem lies with the insurance companies who take premiums from contractors and homeowners and then refuse to pay. My company, my sub-contractor, the architect and the homeowner were all properly insured. I think the real question is - why haven't the insurance companies come to an agreement to pay for the repair? For all who read this review and answer, please note that none of the complaints that generated the grade where about the work done by Pavolony Construction but were based on the accident and the frustration expressed by them. Pavolony Construction proposed a 4-way split from all 4 parties after the insurance companies all refused to pay. This was never accepted. Again we followed the town-approved plans drawn by Architect Jason J. Nicholas. We completed all contracted work and passed all inspections.

Description of Work: Hurricane - water damage in a finished basement. Installed insulation, drywall, molding, interior and exterior doors, storage cabinent replacement
Overall the project went well. Dave (Pavolony) was one of the few contractors to initially call me back. He took the time to listen to what we wanted and took the time to work out a detailed estimate. His price was very reasonable and was comparable to another estimate that I had done. Dave and the contractors he works with were always on time and communicated well. Dave always answered or quickly returned all of my calls. They were respectful and courteous and kept our house/yard clean. Most of all they were hard working and very knowledgeable. During the project we wanted to increase the scope of the work. Dave and his team were able to quickly make the adjustments. The work came out great and on more than one occasion the town inspector mentioned to me that he thought they were doing an "unbelievable" job. I am very happy with the look and quality of the work and would definitely use Pavolony Construction in the future.
Description of Work: Our basement was mostly crawlspace (dirt) with a portion (about 25%) dug out to house our furnace and some storage space. This project dug out the remaining portion of the basement, and finished it with concrete block and poured concrete to create a usable workspace for laundry and storage. The project included fixing structural issues as well as updating some electrical and plumbing.

The estimate was for $74000 for an additional garage. He was very punctual and kept his appointments. He did not take anything in the ballpark and he would painstakingly call. He is very professional in what he did. Actually he just left everything to me. He went to town to the same bank to get the permission. It is all up to me to decide if I want to do it or not. I see, he is still in my contact list I have not given up on him yet. He came down with the estimate, he kept in touch, and it was up to me to decide. I found his quote price was high. As for professionalism he was good in what he did. I would consider him to provide me with a quote in the future.

I had significant damage on the corner of my house due to a roof leak. The leak caused dry rot and structural damage that needed professional attention by a skilled contractor with outstanding framing skills. Dave Pavolony and his crew were excellent. The quality of the work was exceptional, but his final bill was 20% above the estimate I was given before the repair began. I would absolutely use Dave and his crew again and would recommend him to anyone in the future.

They were excellent. They were professional. They were on time. They did an excellent job. They were so good that I have hired them to repair my deck. It was a fantastic experience. They were personable. They were clean. They cleaned up their mess every day. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. I left them alone. I had no problem with that. It was just a great experience. I am going to recommend them to all my friends and I will use them again.

We had purchased an existing home with the intention of leveling it and building a Modular. Dave Pavolony was very helpful in educating us with the process. For us the process was way more than we were prepared for. So we purchased a new home plan and gave it to Dave to price out (among others). His pricing was in line with the other bids we received - however, we had not prepared ourselves for the total cost. The building costs were so much more than we had expected or budgeted for. Hopefully we might be able to utilize his skill and knowledge in the future. The reviews on Angie's List were the reason I contacted him in the first place - and I would do the same again!
Description of Work: Pricing workups for both Modular and Stick frame new home construction - No work performed.

Dave Pavolony and his crew arrived promptly each day to execute the work to be done. As challenges arose Dave and his crew adapted and kept the project moving forward. The site was kept clear of debris at the end of each day and the project was delivered on time and on budget.

I am the homeowner, a "do-it-yourself" kind of guy. But adding a second floor on my house was a little too big of a project to do without some serious professional help. I hired Pavolony Construction to provide me with a weather-tight shell so I could finish the interior at my own pace. Dave Pavolony was EXCEPTIONAL from start to finish. In six days, he and his very experienced crew removed the roof off of our Cape Cod, framed a full second floor, set roof trusses, sheathed, roofed and wrapped the house and installed 10 new windows. The guys were always on time and even worked on Saturday (even though they did not plan to), so that the house was sufficiently enclosed for an impending rain storm. They did a great job re-tarping the roof with a new tarp (not one full of holes). The place was DRY through some pretty heavy rain. Not only were they very efficient, but the work was HIGH QUALITY. They did not cut any corners. Dave followed the architectural plans to a "T" and passed the municipal inspection on the first shot. While they were working, I was ripping the siding off of my house and found a few extra things that I wanted Dave to upgrade for me. The add-ons that I asked him to do were done quickly and efficiently. A lot of contractors like to give you a low-ball price and then hit you hard when it comes to the add-ons, increasing he price as the project progresses. Let me be clear, Dave did not have ANY add-ons. The few extras were things that I asked him to do. His price for the extras was just as reasonable as his price for the original job. I am recommending Pavolony Construction to everyone I know. After the excellent job that they did, I would not recommend anyone else.
Description of Work: Our house was a traditional cape cod style. We hired Pavolony for an Add-a-Level. His team removed the existing roof, framed a new second floor, set trusses, added a new roof, and installed new windows. We added three bedrooms and a bathroom, increasing the size of our home a great deal.

From start to finish the framing went a smooth as possible. Dave and his crew started on the date promised and were there every day until the job was completed. The framing started January 2007 and even with the cold, rain, snow and MUD they worked whenever possible. Their workmanship and attitude was second to none and would recommend them highly. Even with changes from original plan, Dave treated me fairly with the price.
