Description of Work: National did an outstanding job on a very difficult siding and trim removal and replacement job. Ralph was consistently in touch and communicating on the job progress. In the middle of the job I expanded the scope to include a roof removal and replacement and he did not miss a beat. I would use this company again.

Description of Work: We hired National Home Improvement to remodel our kitchen and main bathroom. Our home is a 1958 Colonial and has not been updated since it was built other than a few poorly done repairs. National came in, spent some time coming up with an estimate, brought in samples of the materials that would be used, and gave us a timeframe of about two weeks for completion. When the project started, National gutted both rooms in one day and started the construction a few days later. The work progressed nicely and the kitchen started taking shape fairly quickly. Any concerns we had were noted and addressed. The bathroom took a bit longer, but the finished product was worth it. The only complaints I had were that there was some construction debris left in my driveway (nails and small bits of tile), and of course, the house was dusty during construction which is difficult to avoid. NHI gave us financing options that worked with our financial situation and allowed us to take a house that had two very big warts and made it much more livable.

After 11 years - I certainly know my address... but when I pulled up the driveway (after completion) I was looking at a completely different home!! O.M.G !! We were delighted. It took going through 3 other contractors...they just basically took measurements, told me what product I should use ( what my neighbors were using) and then just left me estimates in my mail slot. I felt kind of short stepped. I didn't want what my 'neighbors thought was good- I wanted someone to sort of guide me along, and propose some different options - or product ect. Finally - I met with the forman of the company we used - who actually asked me ' what are you trying to accomplish' what are your goals and 'do you have any thoughts in mind? So they presented me with different choices for my Roof, then my Windows and actually told me it would be better to do the Siding and the Windows at the same time - as the Window Trim work would look better and also save me Money from having to do the Window Trim two times instead of one! They actually asked me where I wanted them to put the Dumpster, which side I should they enter my home, should I be aware of any plantings or any other ''off limits' areas. They were ON Time and quite pleasant - they did clean well and tarped my flower beds. As I said - I still have the same address....but now I have an enery efficient Brand New House.! STRONLGY RECOMMEND.. I'm not surprised they now have other work in my area.
Description of Work: Needed a new Roof , replace most of the old Windows and look at getting new Siding . Very old home needed a lot of T.L.C.

The entire experience was a pleasure. The office and field staff were great, and Ralph went out of his way to see that we were satified. I would recommend this company to all my friends and family and not hesitate one bit.
Description of Work: New roofing was installed. Ralph found several issues with my house, especially all the valleys and lack of ventilation. He recommended a ridge vent and soffit vents to prevent ice damming. New energy efficient windows were installed and we noticed the difference immediately.. Lastly they installed Prodigy siding from Alside, and It looks great! The crew did an excellent job in cleaning up as well as protecting my home during the ripping off of the roof and siding. They were careful around my shrubs.

We were very pleased with National. The salesperson (Jerry) convinced us to do the work. He explained that National gives a large discount (40%) off materials and labor. This is because he claimed that they made training videos while completing the remodeling work. He also assured bank financing at low interest rates. We received the financing, though Jerry was not completely honest. Although he claimed it was not a second mortgage, it was. We still went forward with it, though this was not what we had initially expected. We also never saw a film crew, as expected per Jerry's pitch. (???) Douglas, National's installer who remodeled our kitchen, took measurements and gave his professional opinions about how to lay out the new kitchen. He incorporated our ideas and was up front about challenges. He promised that he would complete the work before Christmas, assuming we agreed to start in early December. We did. Douglas was helpful and efficient. The demo of the entire kitchen happened in one day; drywall was up and painted by the end of the first week. The new cabinets were in by early the second week. Everything else was installed/completed ahead of schedule, 2 days early. The workmanship was beautiful. He also explained that in the past six months, he did participate in making a training video while working, though other installers were chosen more often. Overall, we are extremely happy with his work. Our only complaint is regarding the clean-up. While Douglas did get rid of all of the trash created during demo, there were nails left on my driveway, which ultimately tore my tire. I had to purchase a new one after the first time I parked in the driveway. I'd recommend their work but would ask them to ensure the clean-up is thorough.
Description of Work: National ripped out our old kitchen, much of which to the studs and installed a beautiful new kitchen. They removed a breakfast bar and built-in microwave stand, as well as a pantry. This allowed for more open space and new countertop workspace. They also removed the range top and wall oven and made space for a new full-size oven with range top. For the majority of the kitchen, National replaced and painted the drywall and ceilings. They replaced the sink, faucet, lighting, and oven hood with quality materials. They also removed the old Pergo flooring and replaced it with solid, hardwood flooring. In remodeling the kitchen, they installed new, wood cabinets and granite countertops. For a backsplash, they used ceramic tile. They also installed my new oven with rangetop and dishwasher (purchased separately).

I was referred to National Home Improvements by a coworker who had utilized their products and services on a Roofing,Siding and Windows project on their home. Prior to meeting with NHI I did extensive research and homework on the project as it was outside the parameters of what you would call a routine project. My mother in law was recently scheduled to move in with us after she was rendered partially disabled due to a fall resulting in a severe hip injury. Therefore, the initiation of this project was a direct result her situation and time was of the essence. It goes without saying I met with numerous other Home Improvement companies to discuss and evaluate our options. A representative of the company came to our home on several occasions at our convenience to assist us in choosing not only design options but also financing options best suited to fit our needs. After reviewing several proposals gathered during the information and fact finding component of the project we decided to go with NHI. In retrospect it was a decision we are extremely happy and fortunate to have made. We were introduced to our project manager who held our hand throughout the entire process. At times we were escorted to various design centers to assist in choosing the tile, stone, vanity, various fixtures etc.,etc. The entire staff demonstrated a level of professionalism second to none and we couldnt be more satisfied with the entire process. I have recommended NHI to several others in my immediate circle and I am a satisfied customer for life. To Ralph and his entire staff I thank you for a job well done. PS; My Mother in Law says thank you also. :-)

National Home Improvements replaced our siding and windows. They did the job quickly and professionally. They took care of doing all the paper work and permits. They offered several different finance options and got us approved!!! We were so thrilled that we had National do our kitchen as well. They weren't the cheapest estimate we received but I believe you get what you pay for and National Home Improvements was worth the cost. I would definitely recommend them!!!!

I contracted for new attic insulation, new roofing, new windows, new front and rear entry doors, and some siding replacement. At the time, I mentioned that the landscaping around my house had cost plenty and I needed them to take pains not to destroy existing plantings when replacing the roof and the windows. I signed the contract at the end of October 2011 and the windows were measured the next week to be ordered for installation and delivery by Thanksgiving. The roof was going to be done by mid-November, and the doors were going to be put in at the same time as the windows because they were "stock sizes" and it would be no problem. Then, the trouble started. I later found out the main reason for all the confusion was, the sales guy Jay lost or ruined the copy of the paperwork he had and instead of asking me for a copy, just wrote it up again from memory and got the details wrong. I also established through my own research and observations that they do not do the work but instead rely almost exclusively on subcontractors (which is why they include language to that effect on the back of their agreements). Public records do not reflect that they directly employ more than a handful of people there. I am not sure how all the other reviews for them on here are so positive. WINDOWS Mysteriously, the manufacturer "got the windows wrong" and the windows had to be re-measured for delivery and installation in mid-December. When the guy was there measuring for the windows, he said that someone "in the office" had gotten the order wrong and the manufacturer called to complain that the measurements could not be correct. By the time the order was properly placed, the holidays intruded and I did not get the windows installed until mid-January, a few months late. (I looked up the name of the window installer -- he has his own company.) DOORS I tried to get them to come out and measure and order the doors so that those could get done quickly. First, in November, they said there was no need as all the doors were stock sizes and they would just wait and order the doors in time to be done with the windows. Then, the owner (Ralph) had some deaths of friends of the family and his mother was in the hospital for an extended period. The windows went in and I was still waiting to get confirmation of what had been ordered. As I suspected, the doors would be custom-built so they would need to come out again and re-measure (as the original measurements had been lost). I had to send a certified letter to get their attention so they'd send someone to measure, which they did. Over a period of five weeks I asked repeatedly for a copy of what had been ordered but they never provided it. Ralph would tell me about the serious medical issues he was having when I'd ask for copies of the orders and promise them "tomorrow" or "this afternoon". Finally, my insurance company had done a spot inspection and insisted on proof of contracts to complete all the work: they was wondering why the house was taking six months to do when it was supposed to take a month. I shared this with Ralph who then said that the doors came in "all wrong" and would have to be re-ordered. Instead, I told him not to bother: I don't believe he ever ordered the doors and when I contacted the wholeseller (Alside) they had no record of any door orders from National -- for my property or otherwise. ROOF The roofers had to keep rescheduling and were supposed to get no-parking permits for their trucks. When I did not see any signs posted for their trucks, I assumed the weather had caused another delay. Instead, I came home later that day and found piles of rubble burying broken shrubs, ladders thrown on top of broken rosebushes, and people walking through planting beds dragging roof debris and materials all over. What is worse, when I opened the access door to the attic, approximately 55 gallons (by volume) of roofing debris fell into the house on the upstairs landing. The whole attic was full of rubble because when they took off the old roofing they did not bother to collect the debris. I also noticed that they put the wrong colored solid roofing material over the porches. When I confronted the foreman he said that he didn't know anything and just did what he was told. I addressed my concerns to Ralph, the owner of the company, who said that they do not take responsibility for any landscaping and that there was "no problem" with the roof color. Also, according to him, the attic rubble was "not an issue" because they "never" clean up the debris that falls into an attic when they tear off a roof. ?! I insisted they clean it up, which they never did, and only after I showed him a copy of the contract did he admit that they got the color wrong on the flat roofing. Most importantly, the main issue I asked them to address was the elimination of a low spot on the roof where water collects over the porch. They just put down a new roof and didn't correct the drainage, but he didn't want to change the roof to correct this because it would be "expensive". I had to threaten legal and regulatory action to have them replace the roof. ATTIC INSULATION The attic insulation wasn't done. Instead of just admitting that the sales guy just left that out of the work order, Ralph the owner argued that I was "overthinking" things and I "didn't really need it" because in an old house "it's just cold and you cannot get away from that." He offered instead that they would do a "really good job" and "take care of" me on the rest of the work. I had to press for a rebate since they were no longer willing to do that part of the work. In short, he said that his doing construction for many years taught him what really works, when I mentioned that I was just trying to follow the EPA guidelines. SIDING I had them take any siding work off the contract and credit me the difference because of the nightmares they caused, being always confused and (in my opinion) less than honest about what was really going on and why. As it turns out, they were going to have the window guy do the work -- he owns his own company (I looked him up) so I am not sure what National really does themselves.ts got lost).
Description of Work: I had contracted for reflective attic insulation, a new roof, new windows and new front and rear entry doors as well as some siding repair. In the end, what was actually completed at my property was new roofing and new windows -- but even with the reduced scope, what was supposed to take a month took more than four months due to their absolute lack of coordination. As it turns out, the roofer and the window installer were both subcontractors (not employees) -- I checked! -- so no one directly employed by National actually did any work.

I was looking to update my kitchen, my friend had referred me to national home improvements, and she had used for kitchen and siding as well. I spoke to the operations manager Jayson; he was very nice and informative. He helped me design the kitchen I always wanted. It took a week to pick out the cabinets, flooring, countertops etc. I had to say I was very impress, the work was exceptional! They kept me up to date with the job progress through phone calls and via email. The office staff are very polite, as well as the contractors. My experience with this company was great, everything took about 3 1/2 weeks to be completed. Now I am in the process of designing my sunroom and deck for the summer.
Description of Work: I had custom cherry wood cabinets done with a black glaze, Brazilian cherry wood floors, mosaic tile backsplash, a beautiful large bay window, and all new lighting. The bathroom I had a wall knocked down and added a large tub, new vanity, countertops, flooring, lighting and shower. I also replaced all windows in those two rooms, one large bay window, and 3 standard windows.

We signed a contract to renovate our bathroom on 10/8/11 with an estimated start date of 10/25/11 and finish date of 11/25/11. I checked with the Montclair construction department last Wednesday, November 23rd and they had no permit application on file for our address. I wrote them an email requesting a refund of my deposit. I received an email on Sat, Nov 26, 2011 at 11:57 AM from Mark Patryn stating "I went to the construction dept on Monday and picked up your folder jacket. Every thing is ready to go i just need you to initial the bathroom drawing. I was a little held up waiting for the plumber to fill out his portion. Every one was running around getting things done for thanksgiving, i apologize. I am sure you will be very pleased with our work, we are the best. I can submit the permit Monday and will make your job my top priority. " It now January 9th and I have heard nothing more since they had gotten an initial from my wife on Monday, November 28th. Today, January 9th, I again wrote an email requesting a refund of my $3000.00 deposit since I have heard nothing from them. I don't believe that our job is a top priority - obviously no one there even bothers or cares to write or call us with any status report etc... If there is anything you can do to help us in this matter, we would greatly appreciate it.

It hasn't gone well at all. The company has abandonded the job with two windows still needing to be installed. They have not returned my calls either. Updated on 12/20/2014 Thanks to my review here, the vendor reached out to me a little over a year ago to attempt to rectify the problem. The installed the remaining windows and I paid them the balance due. However that experience too tested my patience and the job was so badly done that even on the mildest of breezy days, the leaks cause a horrible howling sound and it is cold around the window. Besides the two sets of windows were not of the matching type making things look asymmetric. So I was surprised when Ralph the owner called me again last week to say that he was coming over to a look at what was done and was going to make another attempt to set things right. Of course I can't expect him to replace one of the pair of windows to restore the symmetry but I hope that he will at least fill in the gaps and make a good enough seal around the windows that will insulate them and well and last at least for the life of the windows. Considering his earnestness, I am also going to get a few other windows replaced - I hope I am not making a mistake. I must add that Ralph has said that he is not going to take a deposit on that job and that he will not accept payment until I am satisfied with the job. Looking at his sincerity I am revising my review and changing the rating to Fair. Although I am still skeptical (twice bitten and all that.....), I will provide an update and be very glad to upgrade the rating depending on how it all turns out.

I came upon National Home Improvements and called to see if they offered free estimates. I spoke to a pleasant girl on the phone but I didn't catch her name. She set me up with an appointment on a day that was convienent for me. Which was pretty awesome, because we are busy people and my schedule is all over the place. The salesmen came in, showed me a presentation and did his measurements. Gave me the estimate, and to be quite honest, I was shopping around, but National Home Improvements stuck out the most. I picked them out of the rest and they immediately got to work in a couple of weeks and handled all the permits and paperwork needed. I really didn't have to do much, which is great for me and my time. They cleaned the entire area and made sure there was no mess left in my property. They called me a week later to just follow up with me and see how I felt with the entire procedure. Very nice people and very professional

The price seems pretty accurate. Unfortunately you can’t please everyone all the time. When choosing doors, YOU the customer are in control of style & look. If you aren’t happy with your own decision on design & color, there isn’t much we can do for you after installation outside of service if needed. However, if you do your due diligence you will see we have been in business for over 13 years & have an A+ rating on the BBB & feedback like this is not typical. Also, we conform to a policy here for the customer to not pay the balance until thoroughly satisfied. Thanks for looking!
