Do not use this company. I hired them to redo my driveway and lay down pavers in my backyard. A few weeks after the job was completed it started getting hot out so I turn on my central AC. The machines turn on but the house doesnt cool. My AC guy comes to check it out and informs me that they were physically moved breaking the copper line connections and damaging the machines beyond repair. I had this confirmed by a 2nd professional. The 2 compressors that were brand new a year ago sit on top of the blacktop. Naturally I called Jag because they ripped up all the old backtop around the machines. I left a message that was returned by an employee saying the owners would call me. That never happened so I called back and was questioned on why I think they are responsible. Maybe because you are the only ones to go near those machines in the last 9 months since they were last turned on? I finally get a call back from the owner who simply says she asked her guys and they said it wasnt them and washed her hands of the situation leaving me with a repair bill of $2,845

Driveway looked good for approx. 1 1/2 years. Once they sealed the driveway it started cracking. Driveway is only 5 or 6 years old but looks much older.

Although my first experience with the company was great, when we scheduled a follow up appointment, they were a no show. Also, the estimate was no thorough with some alterations that were asked for after several emails. I did receive an apology, but I went with a different company. I cannot comment on their work.

JAG provided our family with an estimate to redo the driveway apron, belgium block curbing and to pave the driveway with asphalt. They were prompt in their estimate, however, their estimate was about 25% higher than other contractors for the same work. While their workmanship and quality is quite good, make sure you obtain multiple estimates from different contractors to ensure pricing meets your budget.

This is the third time we've used JAG,and we could not be more satisfied. The quality of their workmanship is quite excellent. They've had the same crew for years and it's family owned. If you're looking to schedule an appointment or communicate questions or concerns regarding a job, we've learned that it's best to deal with Lorena or George, directly. They are the owners of the company and they are fantastic. Every day, they showed up on time -- and were thorough in their clean-up. They do their best to stick to the schedule and worked directly with our town to sort out the permits. Really great company to work with. Will definitely use them in the future.

I contacted JAG for an estimate; they were very nice on the phone--beyond that I found the experience very frustrating. They arranged someone to come see our driveway and provide us with an estimate, that individual arrived several hours late (I had previously shared that I had an important business meeting that day, so their punctuality for the estimate visit was important?I even recommended they come the following day since I had more flexibility). I was the one calling them 30-minutes after their scheduled arrival time, to understand when we could reschedule the estimate and I was told the person was in my neighborhood and would be there in a couple minutes, 30-minutes later they still had not arrived. I left for my business meeting, but evidently someone did come to look at the driveway?which I found out when I called to inquire about rescheduling that appointment and was told they were going to forward me the quote once it was written. The following week, when I did not hear from them, I called again to follow-up on the quote ? nothing was created. They called a few days later with a verbal price quote, which I thought was a little high, and I asked them to email me the quote in writing. A month later I have still not received the quote. No surprise, I did not choose to use JAG?I hired another firm that did a great job and for a lower price.
The saga is too painful to recount, week by week (and the whole job took almost two months), so I'll try to summarize. Lionel was our contact. He came in and gave us an estimate that was around the same as a few others, the difference being that he claimed he would be able to complete the job within a month (when nobody else could) so the driveway would look nice for a party we were having. He said it would take a few days, and it would definitely be done before the scheduled date. I just lost a ton of text, so I'll type the major points: Lionel never showed up on the first scheduled day. He gave an excuse about how it had rained the day before. He didn't show up the day after the first day that work did begin (a week late), either. His excuse was that it was too hot. It was during this conversation that he told me that I have to talk to Lorena (???). Lorena is, as I had assumed at that time, Lionel's boss and is even harder to communicate with in English than Lionel, due to a heavy accent (I believe they speak Spanish). Lorena's special move over the next two weeks was to say she was going to show, but never do so. I would call her, and she would make an excuse and start mumbling, then (I think this is what she was doing) take the phone away from her mouth to be even more indecipherable, and eventually hang up. This happened no fewer than five times. When she did show up with a crew, work got done, and all it cost me, on those days, was a bag of bottled water with one bottle for each of the guys. Yep, she rang my doorbell asking for bottled water every day they were here. One day, during the driveway removal, Lionel rang the bell and told me he'd need $500 to hire someone to haul away the tree roots that he removed (the removal of which was included in the job contract I signed). During the estimate, he saw the tree roots growing under the driveway, and even made a point about how deep and far they were growing into the driveway. Despite this, I agreed to split it with him and told him that I wanted the job done, no more BS. On what was supposed to be the last day, it looked like the pavers were not going to finish the square at the back of the driveway that was part of the job order, so I called Lionel, and he told me to tell the workers to do it. Really?? The workers told me to call Lorena. It got done, but it was just another example of how poor this company's service is. When it was all finished up, it actually looked pretty nice. It wasn't level, at all. To this day, rain still forms puddles in random spots on the driveway. But I was just happy, at that point, to have a smooth, black driveway. The worst part of the whole ordeal, which I thought was over at that time: I didn't notice right away, but there was a three foot crack at the bottom of the concrete patio, which looks like was damaged by the pressure of the smoothing of the asphalt up against it. I called Lorena a few days later to fix it, and she asked for photos. I sent them via iPhone, and she said she'd fix it. A week later, I called, and she (acted like she?) barely knew who I was. I had to remind her of the work, the location, etc. and only then did she say, "oh yeah, I will send someone tomorrow." Nobody came. I called the day after, and she said, "it was too hot yesterday. I'l send someone next week." Not to recap every conversation, but it took almost a month of back and forth and repeated (yes, multiple) no-shows/being hung up on/phone and communication problems before I finally called the office and got someone other than Lorena (who seems to get the office phone forwarded to her cell most of the time). It was a secretary who told me that the owner is Lorena's husband (not Lionel) and that Lorena is the manager. She said that Lorena doesn't do anything unless the office schedules it for her (WHAT?) so that's why she never came. I calmly complained a lot and the secretary apologized profusely and promised to send someone. Our conversation was positive, cordial, and reassuring. Lorena rang the bell the next day and promised to "call me ahead of time and bring a guy this week" to fix the damage. She insisted that "it was nothing" despite the fact that it was a brand new patio with a three foot crack. She assured me it would be simple and look like new. That was an awkward ten minutes. She never called. A week later, my buddy said, "oh, they finally fixed the patio?" Yep, she had it "fixed" at some point. It looked like a patch up job, but I had already given up. The only reason they don't get an "F" is because the price was fine and the driveway isn't all mangled like it was before. I have a high threshold for labor/service BS because I know it's all a huge racket. I had had a great experience with Wilber's Painting (is there anyone else?) a few months before Jag, so I know there are good companies out there. I guess if you have a straightforward job, don't need it done in a hurry, speak Spanish, and don't need it done when it's too hot, Jag might be right for you. If you'd like a company with good service, look elsewhere. I feel a bit mean writing a review like this, but I think it's important to the online community, if we're going to be relying on others' comments, to summarize my experience. Hope this helps; thanks for reading! PS - all of that said, the crew members who actually did the labor were hard working and polite when they were here. They even drilled holes in the Belgian block setting for water to drain. I'm sure that's standard, but it seemed like a nice touch considering the experience I was having with Jag at the time.

Response from Jag Paving
This is in response to [removed member name] complaint. 1. First of all, the job was not for 10,000 sq. ft. and a 100 sq. ft. concrete patio but instead for 2,200 sq. ft. and 100 sq. ft. concrete patio. 2. The job was planned to be finished within 1 month like it was discussed with [removed member name]; however, there were big tree roots in the way of the driveway that needed to be removed on [removed member name] responsibility. It took him around one month to do so. We could not start the job on the time for that reason. 3. The job started late not because we did not want to do it but because the roots were still on the path. As the removal and disposal of this material was not on the contract, there was a verbal agreement from [removed member name] and Jag Paving Corp to share the responsibility of the disposal of the tree roots. 4. A few times we had to stop the job because of the high temperatures, over 100 degrees, made it impossible to perform our duty under these unhuman circumstances. 5. Some other days, it rained which made it impossible to perform because the ground saturates and we take the risk on the asphalt cracking and/or sinking in the future. 6. The only water that was asked was not for the employees to drink. The employees asked [removed member name] to connect the outside water for the asphalt compactor to work correctly. The water prevents the asphalt from sticking on the roller. 7. The contract was signed on June 15, 2013 and the last payment was on July 24, 2013. Let’s remember that it took approximately one month to clear the tree roots. 8. This complaint comes 3 months after the job was finished. If [removed member name] was not satisfied with the results like he explained, why didn’t he complain when the problem arose or when the job was finished? 9. We are not going to discuss the inappropriate comments on the matter that some of our employees have a heavy accent but would like to let him know that a lot of people have strong accents in this country. To make a comment on this matter is considered extremely unsuitable. In the years of doing business, we have never encounter an issue regarding our employees accents. 10. We are very sorry that he is not happy with the results, however if he feels that we could do anything else to avoid this sour taste, we’ll be more than happy to do so. We are more than a business; we are here to help people at the same time.

Excellent people to work with from start to finish. Lorena is fantastic and is very much on top of the business. It's family owned and operated -- but even the crew was terrific. Very responsive to our requests and extremely detail oriented. For us, the patio was a very last minute project. That said, we were up against a deadline. They worked hard to get the job done and communicated to us the approximate timeline and any hurdles we may have been up against. This was the second project we had them do. The first project was a walkway in the front of our home -- which turned out beautifully. We have another project on the horizon and look forward to working with them again. Highly recommended!

My daughter is getting married this June and we really needed to get our house and yard in order for the all of the festivities. I looked around for a place that would not only do brickwork and paving, but could also help with bringing the yard up to par. I found Jag Paving in Kearny and I'm happy to say that it was a really professional company, but they were still personal and on top of my project from start to finish. The front steps and the top landing were practically falling apart so they had to completely break up the old ones remake new steps from scratch. They added some cool brick accents to the border at the top and sides that matched really well with the original brick on the house, so it looks much more uniform now. I never would have thought of doing something like that if they hadn't suggested it. They worked pretty quickly so we weren't really inconvenienced by the construction. Jag yanked out two huge dying holly bushes that were on each side of the front sidewalk forever and the root system was insane. The guys cleaned up every trace of bark and leaves and left the yard in immaculate condition. The final thing that we had done was our slate walkway to the garden. It has to be perfect because wedding guests will be walking on it and then it will be used for the ceremony too. Jag did an amazing job of replacing broken pieces of stone and making sure everything was completely secure and level. All of the work that they did looks terrific, Probably the nicest folks that I have ever had do work at my house. The wife is happy and that means I am too. Great job Jag Paving!
Description of Work: Replace steps and landing. Re-do the garden walkway and remove dead shrubbery.

When it was time to get our yard ready for the warm months we realized we needed a lot of work done. Thanks to Super Storm Sandy, we had a lot of trees damaged included a huge oak that was completely uprooted. We had already had the tree removed but there was a deep gaping hole in the earth and the sidewalk had shifted was broken. We called in Jag Paving to fix our sidewalk and they did an awesome job of it. Then we found out that they also do landscaping so we got a price that was very reasonable to do the rest of the work. ?They brought in land fill for the big hole and then?they?brought in?topsoil and graded the entire back yard so that it would drain properly. Before they were done they suggested that we repave the driveway. Our driveway is pretty long and had a lot of cracks. We hadn't planned on paving it, but the price they gave us was too good to pass up. It was a good decision because they did it in one day and it's beautiful. We're all set now for the summer.? I have to say that they are total professionals and I'm more than satisfied with Jag Paving's services. Overall it was a very good experience and I'd?definitely recommend them to anyone looking for paving, landscaping or stone work.?

After many years of neglect and exposure to the crazy NJ weather, my elderly Aunt's property in Belleville was a complete disaster. The driveway was not even safe to walk on?because?the asphalt had literally crumbled to pieces, leaving huge potholes and cracks. The sidewalks, walkways and patio were pretty much in the same terrible condition as the driveway. ?One company gave my Aunt a quote on the repair job which was completely outrageous! I guess they thought they could take advantage of a senior citizen who had limited resources to research and compare. Thank God we were able to step in and on the advice of a?friend,?we called in Jag Paving. George, the business owner could not have been nicer and was extremely patient and informative. He answered all of my Aunt's questions and gave us some good suggestions to fix up the property that we never even thought of. There was no sales pressure and he was willing to work within her budget ?and still give her the most for her money. The quote from Jag was at least 40 percent less than the price from the other company she had called.? So the first day in, the crew showed up ON TIME, which is unheard of these days and went straight to work. They ripped up and removed the old asphalt driveway and did a beautiful job with the new driveway paving. It is flawless. The workers were very polite to my Aunt and took great care to be?respectful?of the property. Jag also repaired her old patio and replaced the missing flagstones as needed. At George's suggestion, ?they did some landscaping ?and they fixed the retainer wall.?to keep the rain water drainage in the proper direction. The last thing my Aunt had done was a new front sidewalk. They poured the concrete and did such a neat job that we are more than pleased. The entire project was done in less than a week which was a tremendous help so we could quickly get back to our everyday routine.? We highly recommend Jag Paving to anyone who is looking for quality work in a short time, for a reasonable price.?
