 + -1 moreFirst, I've had my computers fixed by the Geek Squad in the past and the service was exceptional. This time was a different story. They had my laptop for almost 2 weeks and it was worse than it was before I took it in. During the 2 weeks they had the machine, I couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone. I was told to check the status online. It never changed. It continued to say it was waiting to be assigned to an agent. I called the 800 number to get the status. They told me I needed to call the store. I called the store and got a song and dance. I asked why they didn't update the status online and I was told they didn't do that. Duh. They deactivated software on the machine without my permission. It appears they may have lacked the knowledge to fix the problem correctly so they just removed software. I'll probably give them another chance in the future but I will NOT be going back to the Geek Squad in Iselin, that's for sure.
Description of Work: I brought my laptop in because it was very slow starting up. I know a little about PC's so I tried everything I knew to correct the problem myself, with no success. In the past, I found the techs at the Geek Squad to be very knowledgable and professional. Each time I bought one of my machines in the past, the problems were fixed quickly and correctly. The one thing that impressed me was unlike other repair places, they did take the easy way out. They took the time to look for solutions that wouldn't impact me. A lot of repair shops simply say they need to do a "Clean Install". This can wipe out all the data, software, and setting, created after the machine was purchased. -When I brought the machine in, the tech suggested I purchase a service contract. I was told this would save me money in the long run. - It was also suggested I purchase a portable drive so they could back up my data. So I did. - After several days, I was told I needed a new hard drive. I said OK but told them I needed everything that was on the machine now, be restored. That was not done. - They did not restore the hard drive partions correctly so I no longer have the "One key Recovery" option they machine came with. .

Description of Work: My desk top computer was not performing as it used to. I brought it into the Geek Squad and the technitian powered up the computer and ran some diagnostics. He indicated that there might be a problem with running various firewall and virus protection programs simultaneously. Withregard to the problems that I was having with Microsoft Word, he indicated that the XP version that I have was 7 years old and that I might want to consider buying a new machine with a more current version of the Microsoft software.

 + -1 moreThey communicated very well and told me everything they were going to do. They did a very good job for me. They also explained that what we needed and what we didn't need. They also suggested things to do to help me out and I thought that was great.
Description of Work: They took all the information from my computer and put it on 6 CD's and installed a new hard drive as the old one was fried.
