This is the third Job American Home Remodeling has done for me. Like the other two jobs, Vic and American Home remodeling did a great job from start to finish. The work was impressive! I have gotten many compliments on the house since the siding job has been done. The work started on schedule and the workers were clean and professional, always happy to talk to me about any concerns I had. The workmanship and materials were high quality throughout the job. I'd strongly recommend American Home Remodeling for any renovation or construction work you might have. They are company with integrity and a pleasure to work with.

Quite simply I refuse to do business with a company that insists on speaking to both my wife and I at the same time and will not send out someone to give an estimate unless we are both present. Insisting that both spouses are present is a manipulative sales tactic that is, in my opinion, completely unprofessional. When I asked why we were both needed, I was told that it is due to the fact that they offer 100% financing. When I said that we were not going to use financing I was told that they want the opportunity to explain the program. That was enough for me. I have no idea of the quality of their work, but I believe that as the customer, I am entitled to schedule a visit at my convenience and with or without me being present.

4.26.12 Update: After reading my review, the company did contact me to provide an estimate for this job. They were pleasant and informative which was very helpful. 4.19.12 Update: The owner called me and my sister to rectify the situation. I contacted American Home Remodeling after reading the reviews here. The experience started out positive but quickly changed. Dolores from American Home Remodeling called within a day of my inquiry. I called her back the following day, however she was not in, so I spoke with Chris. We set up an appointment for the next day, Saturday afternoon. Since my sister was the one who would be meeting with him, and she works on Saturday, this was very convenient her. However, American Home Remodeling called at the last minute to cancel and to reschedule. They were to show up on Monday between 7 and 8pm. No show. No call. Interestingly, while my sister was waiting for them to show up, Dolores left me a message at the same time on that Monday night to follow up on her first call. So I called her right back, telling her the full story, and that my sister was indeed waiting for American Home Remodeling to show up. Dolores was looking at my files and I asked if she could what was happening. She said she couldn’t see that…that information was upstairs. I am glad I was only trying to get an estimate from these people and not any real work. If this is how they operate in the preplanning/estimate phase, I can only imagine the headaches and hassles that occur when work is actually happening. I get the estimate is free, but then don’t advertise it if it is too much trouble to show up. I also understand businesses could be busy, but guess what…so are the customers.

I found American Home Remodeling on Angies List and was immediately impressed with the rating I saw. After meeting with several other highly rated contractors I felt most comfortable moving forward with American Home. My project was challenging to say the least, but they handled it like true professionals. Dan and Chris were very attentive to my needs and making sure everything turned out right. I would have no problems recommending them and using them for future projects.

Dan, the owner's son-in-law, came to my house to give me the estimate. The estimate was $3200 to replace the shingles and flash around the chimney on a section of roof that was less than 200 square feet. This was almost triple the average of estimates I received from other roofers. On top of that, he wrote the price a few words indicating the work to be performed on the back of his business card, and gave that to me as a quote, despite him having a letter-sized notepad with him. I passed due to the high price (almost triple my average estimate), and the failure to give me a detailed quote listing quantities and types of materials to be used, and a detailed description of the work to be performed. What was written on the back of the business card was not adequate for me.

Working with American Home Remodeling was a really great experience. Vic came to our house the day before Thanksgiving and did a very thorough check for what the problem was, went over every option in detail, and then provided me with a detailed estimate that was very easy to understand. The work was done about two weeks later and took two days. My husband stayed home from work in case they needed anything but they really didn't, they just showed up, checked in with him briefly, took care of it, cleaned up after themselves and left, it was great! Vic was great with providing a detailed invoice soon after and was always responsive throughout the entire experience. I was very pleased with how everything went. The one thing that was less than great was the after hours answering service - they weren't very helpful or knowledgeable, but once they connected me to Vic everything was perfect. I got several quotes on this work and American Home wasn't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive either. I feel like the little extra I paid above the lowest bid was worth it because Vic was so responsive and they were able to take care of the problem so quickly and efficiently and with great follow up. I think they also do other types of remodeling work and I will absolutely work with them if I ever need those services.

The gentleman that came out and was very professional and gave us an estimate. The amount was fair compared to the rest.

Grade A overall but a little to pricey for me.

They did a professional job and it seems that everything is holding now.

I was looking for a fast response since any rain would make the situation worse. Dan from American responded within a few days with an estimate and scheduled the work quickly when I received the go ahead from my insurance company before the rains came. The work was done quickly and professionally with no leaks afterward.

I liked that they listened to me. They had a plan and I came in and said “no you can’t put a wall in here” and they figured it out and made it work. That was great. It was important to keep on them about the details. The tile man wasn’t great, it’s not perfect. I would tell others that on the little finishing touches, I’d really keep on them so it ends up like you like it. They were good to work with and they listened and made it happen.

The job went very well. There was a minor issue but it was resolved within two days to my complete satisfaction.

American Home Remodeling installed a new roof, concrete floor and automatic garage door to our garage. The work looks fantastic. More importantly, Chris was fantastic to work with. He was prompt and professional for all steps. He was always responsive and available for any questions and I would absolutely recommend working with him and his company. They went above and beyond by adding plexiglass to where there were missing panes of glass on the garage windows.

They said they could not do the work in my area, but they were pleasant to deal with. They could not do the work because they would have to deal with New York City.

Our cement and brick stairs were completely falling apart, brick by brick. After receiving 3 estimates, we decided to go with American Home Remodeling for so many reasons. One, because he was honest with us. Two, AHR was extremely responsive and flexible. Chris, the main contact person, was extremely responsive to us and our needs. He was respectful, professional, and courteous. The estimate was on target and timing was accurate. He had a vision for our stairs and he pulled it through. We called with questions: he responded quickly. His team did exactly what they said they would do. They even finished within the timeframe discussed (weather permitting, of course). We have internal home rebuilding to do and we will absolutely hire AHR to do the work in 2012. See you in 2012, Chris, for more work on the house! Have a wonderful holiday.

I called for an estimate and was given a price, which later had to be increased due to the fact that Montclair requires a bond, which was an additional $300.00. The work was performed to my satisfaction.

The project was re-scheduled since the men arrived too late to start the job and finish. When the project was re-scheduled the men worked from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm without a break.

Chris is very professional from start to end, and I'm very happy the work is done wthin time and quality as expected. The price is higher than one of the other estimates I got, but I feel totally comfortable of hiring them for the job and be worried free. Plus, I called roofers right after the snow storm, so you can imagine how busy they are, and of course I got a lot of no follow ups or responses. American Home Remodeling is very fast on responding, and Chris showed up on time. I can defintely use AHR in the future for other projects. Hope my experience/comments helps you all here.

I have a large older home with built in gutters. I called about repairs to roof, gutters and other exterior carpentry work that the house needs. The 45 second response - "We do not do repairs, only new roofs". Fast and honest response. I would not , however, chose a company to replace my roof if they were not willing to fix my roof.

I contacted AMR to obtain pricing on a bay window, we setup an appointment but they never showed on the agreed date. I'm a big believer in punctuality, they totally missed the mark. I ended up buying from another contractor. I understand that the company is located in NJ and I'm in SI but if realistically if the project is far for their company to work on, I'd rather them say this upfront rather than give me the run around.

I have had a bad experience with the prior roof since it was installed in 2004. I have had the contractor over several times to repair and still leaks and leaks, so much dissatisfaaction that I decided to just spring for a brand new roof again but this time not without Angie's list references with grades. It turns out when I got the service, I found the other contractor( Carlsen Roofing and Siding---Not to be confused with Carlson Brothers Roofing) had a D, and that is no surprise, except that maybe an F is more accurate. Vic came to my home and met with me and my husband to discuss our problems, the solutions tried and then his suggestions came from that. He was kind enough to empathize with us about our frustration over having to put another brand new single layer roof on in such short time. I felt secure with him and his upfront presentation of the project. He was able to negotiate a lower price than the original and partly took into account the fact that this was an unusual need to replace a whole roof in such short time. Nic followed up on site in the dark with a FLASHLIGHT to let me see and enjoy the new roof as it was dark by the time I arrived home. The shrub beds have been cleaned out, the driveway had no nails on it and the back deck was also cleaned out. The crew was meticulous and seemed very much used to being up there, as I did see them setting up as I left for work in the morning.

Victor came out, and although he did not take the job, he did spend the time to review the issue and gave many recommendations, and who might be able to repair the problem.

They were very responsive, on time, and professional. He was very informative. He walked around the house and gave some suggestions and solicited ideas. He was very professional and on time. I decided not to use them because I had a family friend that could do the work and I decided to give it to him.

It was a great experience over all. I am so glad I joined Angie's list as my neighbors didn't have good roofer referrals for me. I called the top 3 companies to service my area. American Home called back right away and set up the estimate for the following morning. I learned that they are a family owned company and have been around for 25 years. Dan explained everything that needed to be done and what the costs would be. I also loved the fact that they took credit cards or were willing to finance payment. I really needed this done before the winter and am so pleased with how quickly it was finished. A few days later the dumpster arrived and the guys came to do the job. They worked all day and into the night to finish because there was an October snow storm predicted for the next day! Thank goodness they got it all finished. It looks fantastic and they were wonderful about cleaning everything up. I made it through the storm without one leak! I would recommend this company to anyone. PLUS, they have a 2 and 1/2 year guarantee. The other estimates I got only offered one year satisfaction guarantee. They were not the cheapest estimate, but I felt they were the best choice for sure.
