The estimate was Outrageous, it blew me away literally ;(, so I chose to go with someone else. I needed an estimate on my partially finished basement with a full bathroom. All the wall insulation, lighting, electrical outlets, etc. Some sheetrock needed to be replaced due to water damage and mold, the flooring, painting, and cosmetic finishings, and very little plumbing and electrical. $38,000- 10%=Really $34,200.

Dear [member name removed], American Home Remodeling feels that this review is unfair and misleading. The representative that was at your home explained to you that the electrical/plumbing/carpentry that was done in your basement by a handyman was not up to code. Nevertheless, no permits were filed on your job when he was working. American Home Remodeling does every job with permits, therefore would have to correct/redo the handyman's work to get all inspections passed and up to date. Your half-finished basement to American Home Remodeling was a complete renovation and very little would be able to be salvaged. We strive our best to give all of our customers as much information as possible and satisfy them with a job up to their standards. We do appreciate you taking interest in our company and hope you consider us for any future projects.

Chris was very nice in taking a look at all the issues I had, and discussing with me why he felt the problem was relatively minor, and letting me know that I could probably resolve it with help from a gutter installer and from a landscaper -- and perhaps by my installing a dehumidifier in my basement. He was honest and straightforward in saying that he didn't really think the problem necessitated more involved fixes than that. He gave me his card and invited me to keep his company in mind if I needed them for some other project down the road. I would definitely consider them in the future, in the event I have a bigger project or decide to finish my basement.
Description of Work: Came to provide estimate for exterior work: gutter install/repair, grading, possible need for EIFS siding correction, and hardscaping (walkway and patio). First 3 items related to correcting a water infiltration problem that concerned me. I was given a two-hour window in which they would come. Chris did call me during that window to say he was running about half-an-hour behind and would that be okay for him to come then. While he was on the phone with me, Chris asked what I needed. He then told me it sounded minor, and they are contractors who do jobs with a $5,000 minimum. I told him parts of the job were minor, but I really had no idea how much other parts might cost. He said no problem, he'll come and see how he can help. In the end, he came only about 10 minutes past the original 2-hour window.

John, from American Home Remodeling, from the start was punctional and prepared to answer our questions. With his laptop, he showed samples of work done to other homes. He worked with us and always returned our calls to answering our concerns. The contracts were signed on 6/7/14 and all work was completed by 7/4/14. The time between the contract signing and work completed included time needed to custom make the windows and order the siding. We found the price of the work a little more then anticipated, but have no regrets, after work was done. John subcontracted the window installation and had his own crew to install the vinyl siding. The window subcontractor installed the windows the same day it was delivered, which worked out like clock work. They installed the windows in half a day among 3 workers, which I thought was going to take several days. They disposed of the old windows and cleaned up afterwards. Two of three days later, the siding arrived. Another crew which works directly for American Home Remodeling came the next day of delivery. A crew of 4 workers installed the siding. They took about four full days to install the siding and more day to install the gutters. They did quality work and I would recommend this provider to any of my friends. They secure all permits, as they fully insured and have the proper contractor licenses in NJ. Also, they returned when we had a punchlist after the construction.
Description of Work: The provider first install 14 white vinyl double hung new replacement windows and new cellar door masonry repair. Next the provider installed styrafoam insulation wiith vinyl siding. This included white casing, alumiun window sills, white raised panels shutters, white center vented vinyl soffit, and gutters and leaders. It also included masonry work by installing decorative blond fieldstone rocks around our front door.

Chris Fontana was a delight throughout the estimate process. He was attentive to what I wanted and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need or didn't care about. He was honest when he thought a cheaper solution was the better one. He was punctual and professional, with the just the right amount of follow-through: He stayed in touch letting me know my business was important to them, but was never pushy or too persistent. The only reason we went with a different company was because they could start right away. I would contact Chris again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Went through the estimate process for re-siding my entire home (small bungalow).

Overall did good and quick work. They were the only contractor that was able to replace the roof within a week of getting the quote (everyone else would have waited 3 weeks to start). Was going to rain that day, so they started with a 4 man crew and got another 4 to come at lunch to get it done before the rain came. Dan was great in helping with issues that came up. They accidentally broke one of my gutters, but they gave me a new one for free. Flashings needed to be fixed after, took care of it no problem. Given how quickly it needed to be done, not surprised there were a few minor issues, but they took care of them no questions or hassles. Price was all-in too, no additional up charges, which was fantastic. Would recommend them for roofing, may ask them for help with other home projects too.

I got rush things on my porch that I can't get rid of. They stuck all the wall on the side of the house for me and left on that too, that's showing worst. I called them up all my job problems. I was warned not to call them back. I would not use them again in the future.

This project was completed years ago so we are puzzled with the timing of the review, Our records show a couple of minor concerns that were addressed last year and since then we have not had any communication. Our customers are always our top priority and we would never warn anyone not to call us with a concern. We actually encourage our customers to contact us with any concerns they have with our work.

They were very much on target, very timely and professional and the job was well done. We are very happy with their service and quality of work. We are now having them come back to renovate our kitchen and create an open concept together with our dining room. Dan Falato, their sales guy is the man. He understands the customer needs and provides great support and outstanding project management.

My husband and I met with a few contractors for our residing project. After reviewing American Home Remodeling on BBB, Angie’s List, and state licensing records we chose them with absolutely no regrets. Vic’s attention to details as we went through the review of the contract also made the difference. Of particular concern was a gutter issue that was affecting our front porch with excessive amounts of rainwater. Depending upon the amount of rainfall I would literally have to sweep the excess water off of our porch afterwards. Vic took our concerns seriously, which put us at ease. I delayed my review on Angie’s List to have an opportunity to see the results. After a few downpours I’m happy to say that the problem no longer exists. Throughout the project Vic made suggestions that were helpful and appropriate for our situation. For example, after looking at several pictures of homes it was still difficult to visualize how particular swatch color combinations will look on our home. He was patient with us as we made decisions regarding downspout, fascia and trim color choices. We’d also hope to repoint the brick on our house, but with a few more costly renovation projects ahead of us it’s been on the back burner. Vic’s suggestion to stucco over our brick was realistically more economical, and something my husband and I hadn’t considered before. We were reluctant at first, but the job turned out well, and compliments the siding very nicely. The crew worked diligently throughout the project. They answered my questions, and didn’t pester us. They cleaned our yard, and our neighbor’s yards daily. Vic stopped by a few times to see the job progress. He was responsive to any concerns that arose responding to calls, e-mails, and text messages in a timely manner. My husband and I are very pleased with the job. We look forward to working with Vic and his team on other renovation projects as we continue to chip away at the restoration of our home.

Vic came to us do an estimate - very professional and friendly. We picked a date very soon after (the next week I believe). They ripped the roof off and replaced it all pretty much in one day. They came back the second day to finish the details around the skylights. We also had a problem with our lights in one of our rooms after the work. Vic had his crew come back to our home and they tried to help our electrician figure out the problem. They were helpful, responsive and we are very happy with the outcome. Thank you!

Terrible. This happens a lot on Angie's list. Out of 10 or so contractors I've contacted over the years only 1 or 2 actually are willing to even estimate on services their Angie's list page says they do. Just another example.
Description of Work: Nothing. The description of th services they provide is misleading. Contacted them about services the page says they do -- masonry. They write back quickly but say they only do full replacement. Hello -- I already have a brick front. They should just be honest and call it a construction company -- remodel apparenty is not what they do.

[member name removed], As we stated in our response, we do not do repairs we only commit to full replacements. We do not have the man-power to do repairs. We informed you of this when you first requested information from us. We feel sorry that you feel this way towards our company, but we gave the courtesy to you, as a customer, of not wasting your time if the only work you were looking for was to repair. Feel free to give us a call if you are looking for any future projects in the future. Thank you and hope you enjoy your day. American Home Remodeling, Co.

I would never call them again, I am not happy at all with them. He didn't do a good job. He repaired them, but when he put the carpet back on it, as far as putting back the carpet he did a horrible job and I had the man come back and looked at it and he didn't say a word. They sub-contract out, they don't do the work and what happened is the people who did my windows, they did an excellent job. I think they are pricey.

We apologize that you feel your experience with our company was not up to your standards. Our original contract stated that we were going to put a wood laminate on your interior steps after reinforcing them. Once we removed the carpet from the steps and were in the process of repairing them, you requested the carpet be put back on. It was explained to you by our men that reinstalling the 10+ year old carpet would not turn out the way you wanted it. It was your decision to move forward with reinstalling the carpet. We are a little confused as to why you gave us such low marks when you had prior knowledge as to how the steps would turn out. Please do not hesitate to call our office if you would like to discuss this matter further.

I wanted the screen on the front door, and thing that holds the screen and the door is out and its just hanging there. When they said they're gonna be there, they came, they did well with the windows and roof, they cleaned up themselves, I was pleased and I said they were good and excellent but not now because I can't get them but they were good when they did the work, everything was okay.

I 1st contacted AHR in 2012 to remove old deck and build new significantly smaller one. After talking to Chris and him taking a look at it, he informed me that the job was too small for his company and wouldn't make sense price wise for either of us for me to hire him. He was completely right and I totally understood. He told me what I should expect to pay and left me with his business card for any future bigger projects I may have. I met with other contractors but couldn't find one I liked so the job got put on hold. 2014 came along and I decided that I needed to get the roof done as I had been putting it off for 2 years. I met with a few contractors but didn't like the price, reviews. or anything else that they had. I remembered Chris and found his card and gave him a call. He came out within a day or so and priced out the roof. After a few days of thinking about it I called him again and asked him to come back out and package a deal for roof, gutters, patio and the original job of the deck I called him for 2 years prior about. Price was higher than some companies I had met with but none had the reviews his company had and by this point I was comfortable with Chris as well as his company. After him coming out to my house 3 or 4 different times, we were able to come to an agreement and financed the project through a company he deals with and the job got underway. It took a little more than a month to complete everything as the jobs were done in stages by different crews that work for AHR. Roof was done within 2 days, deck was done in 2 working days but there were days in between due to inspections, weather and waiting for last minute parts ordered that I requested. Patio was done in 2 days as well. Overall cleanup was good with a little exception to roof crew. I have dogs and kids and I did find more than a handful of nails around the house in the grass so that was an issue but Chris took care of that after a few days. After patio was done there were 2 issues with a corner not being rounded like other corners in an area and along one edge (approx. 20' in length) they did not go out as far (approx. another 1') as I agreed with the contractor on site. Brought this up to Chris so he knew what was going on and he immediately wanted to solve the issue and come back out next day and fix the problems which would've been probably a 1/2 days work. After talking it over with my wife we decided to leave it and in the end we were happier as we were able to put up a little wall instead with plants which we wouldn't of been able to do if they got it right the 1st time. Also, there were a couple of things that I asked his crews to do for me that were not part of the job or original plan and they did it with no problems. Overall I would definitely recommend Chris and his company to anybody looking to have quality work done on their home. They are a bit pricier than I originally wanted to spend but I felt that if I wanted it done right then I need to pay a little more and not go the cheap route. They were not the only company in that price range so I don't want to make it sound like they were way overpriced because that was not the case. The customer service Chris provides and the professionalism that his crews have are just a start of the good things to come from AHR. There were some bumps in the road but usually there are always going to be some. What matters is how the company handles those bumps and AHR was willing to go above and beyond to fix any issues. Thank you Chris.

It went fantastic! It was fabulous. They ripped everything down in 1 day and then finished the work in a week. It was amazing how fast the work was done and it was done so well. Also, John was super responsive, friendly, and addressed any problem I had immediately. Jose was the head guy doing the work and he went the extra mile to make sure I got everything I wanted done and he also made sure everything was cleaned up really well. They showed up before they were supposed to, stayed late, and came and worked on the weekends.

* We dealt with Christopher Fontama, part owner, through the whole process. We had interviewed several possible contractors a few years ago, and selected AHR for the project earlier this year. * Despite being on a budget, the place looks amazing. Before we just used the unfinished basement as storage. Now, we have a home office, separate laundry area, new bathroom, play area for our baby (expecting in July), and "family room" area. Oh and we still have some space for storage. * Chris worked with his foreman, A. Miranda, on completing the project. This included putting up drywall, tiling the floors, converting our unusable basement bathroom into a normal half-bath, creating an isolated laundry area, setting up electrical, painting the walls, revamping the stairs, installing a new door outside, and coordinating the permit and inspection process. Everything was done with high quality. * When we weren't sure what we wanted, Chris and Miranda gave us helpful advice as needed. * Chris was very responsive, over the phone or email. * The whole process was completed more quickly than expected, despite all the horrible snowstorms this winter.

We've waited a year to write this review to see how everything would hold up and their work has come through with flying colors. we get a lot of compliments on our siding and roofing. Chris was great as the General Contractor and addressed any changes or concerns for us once the job was completed. I know that roof removal and siding replacement is dirty work, but the one thing I would say is that his crew could have been a little neater with the work. We had 5 roofing jobs happening simultaneously last spring in our neighborhood and three of them were cleaner and more efficient. To Chris and American Home Remodeling's credit, after the job was completed, they did send a cleaning crew who was super thorough with cleaning our sidewalk, grass, and mulch.

Description of Work: Vic, was great and his crew was on time and profession. They clean up after themselves and they were fast but careful. Any issue I had or questions Vic answered all and responded very quickly. This is the first time I used Angieslist to get what I needed done to the house. Dan called and left a voicemail on my cell phone number at 5pm on the 21st. The number he left for me to call back, 201-741-1948 was not set up to take a message when I called the phone number back. I called the main office number and spoke to someone who said she would have someone call me back. Dan called me back after 6pm, said he could be there in 20 minutes, but unfortunately my husband had left to go to an appointment he had made at 6:30pm, so he could be present between 4-6pm as was requested so Dan said he could not come out. He then asked what I needed to have done and I told him. He then told me that those were considered "small" jobs and American Home Remodeling didn't do any small jobs. I told him that he needed to let the person who schedules estimate appointments know that because she said it wasn't going to be a problem doing any small jobs. What a waste of my time...I could have called another company, who would have welcomed my business, during the week that I waited for American Home Remodeling tell me that my job requests were "too small" and I could have already been scheduled to get my work done. Never going to recommend this company to anyone!!!
Description of Work: I called on April 16th to set up an appointment so someone could come out and do an estimate on some work I needed done in my home. I provided details of all the work that I needed an estimate on and the appointment was set for April 21st between 4-6pm and I was told that both my husband and I had to be present to go over the work that needed to be done.

When a homeowner schedules an appointment with our company we always explain that the representative will call them before coming to their home. It is also specifically explained that if we do not receive an answer we assume that something came up and the homeowner is not available. When you called us back at 6:20, 20 minutes after our scheduled timeframe of 4-6pm, we tried to drop everything to come to your home. You explained that you needed one vanity replaced in your bathroom and one kitchen faucet replaced. If you read our profile you would have seen that we do not do small repair types of jobs. Dan was simply trying to save you time and energy by explaining this to you on the phone. When Angies List is used correctly it can be a very useful tool for homeowners. When it is not used correctly, the whole philosophy behind it is compromised. Posting a review and leaving out important information to make ones story sound more believable is the very thing that can be detrimental to the good that is in Angies List.

Chris from American Home Remodeling was very prompt and professional. He gave us a full description of the work to be done, and a quote range based on what was found once they removed the shingles - there was a question as to whether or not we had cedar shakes. The quote was a little more than we could pay, and we found another contractor that is a friend of a friend who gave us a very reasonable quote. We will keep American Home Remodeling contact information, and would definitely consider using them for another project.

Work appeared to go well. But the proof is in the pudding. After the snow storm(s) of 2013/2014, the roof performed flawlessly. Even though it hasn't been a year, the amount of snow and ice that was stuck on the roof for weeks at time proved to me the roof installation was good. I had a slight issue with the gutters right after installation but that was fixed promptly. My only issue was the cleanup. We still find nails to this day in the surrounding area. I think they should of put a little more effort into cleaning up the nails. Also, the workers asked for a tip. The salesman told me that tips are not allowed.

The provider advised that they no longer work in Westchester County, NY Angie's List does not provide an option for N/A on overall rating so I rated them A for at least informing me.

The company was very professional and responsive to our requests. We received their estimate and it was too much for us to accept. They didn't have the most expensive estimate, but it was too high for us to accept.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for a deposit on a new roof and gutter system.
