Avellino Custom Masonry

Went really well. They returned my call the same day, which is probably the first time I ever had any contractor call back so fast. Gave them a brief description of my problem and set up an appointment to look at the job. They called that morning to confirm I would be home and showed up when they said they would. Turns out we have a high water table in the area, reason that most of the houses in the area get water after few days of rain. They recommended a French drain around the floor as well as two sump pumps. What really sold me was that we signed a contract that called for no money up front. All payment was due after the job was completed and I was satisfied. Also gave me a copy of their certificate that they belong to the Better Business Bureau, so I really felt comfortable in spending the money. Really happy, felt like I got a good deal and the work was done on time as promised. The workers were respectful of my property and cleaned up really well after the job. Good business.

Avellino was great to work with. They were very professional and did everything they said they would do and actually finished the job a day before they said they would. would not hesitate to use them again for any of their services.

Avellino built a beautiful bluestone retaining wall and patio. They also did part of the driveway demolition (where necessary to build the patio) and excavated a significant additional portion underneath the deck. It looks great. We looked at a number of masons and Avellino came in the middle. My husband and I liked Adam - we felt he was frank with us and would be easy to work with - and that played a large role in choosing them. We also liked that they didn't use subcontractors. Above all, I would highly recommend Avellino because they are proud of their work and they want it to be right. After living in a 100-year-old house for several years, I've (unfortunately) worked with many contractors. What I've learned is that anyone can make a mistake, and that the difference between a good contractor and a great one is someone who stands by their work, even if it takes extra time. And that is what you can count on with Avellino.

Excellent work and done in about a week. Only issue was I had to wait 2-3 months before the job could be done. They were very busy at the time of my first contact with Adam. Once work was started it was completed quickly and looks great. I chose the bricks for the job and my choice was used and they used a darker mortar than std that makes it look even better. I was and am very happy with the look and the workmanship.

Our yard/patio looks amazing thanks to Billy and his Avellino team of very hard workers. We had many contractors in to give us estimates on the design we thought would work best for our yard and intended use. We then met Billy who immediately explained to us why our design was not only more expensive but also not as usable as we had envisioned. He drew out for us his thoughts for a design that would give us the patio and yard that would give us the total transformation we were looking for. He instantly gained our trust in his knowledge but also his creativity. The work was done exactly to his specifications and completed on time even with periods of heavy rain. Our patio also included construction of a complete outdoor kitchen which Billy himself worked on since he is a perfectionist and loves doing and not just supervising. He ensured all the plumbing, waterproofing, construction, masonry and pavers were met with his and our approval. We are so happy with the outcome and how magnificent this back yard transformation turned out. We are able to easily entertain large crowds of people and are so thankful for the design and work that Billy and his team did. We would highly recommend them as professionals that we would use again and one that stands behind their work.

I had several estimates in the past from a bunch of different companies. I made one phone call to Avellino Custom Masonry and within a day I had someone out to look at my basement. I live in a very wet area. I thought it was something i had to live with and accept. Billy explained the process to me and removed all my worries!! It was also re assuring to also see that the owner of the company came out to look at the job. He explained that the process his company uses is second to none. High quality materials and skilled employees made me feel confident that i was getting what i needed to keep my problematic basement dry for life. Avellino Masonry was on budget and on time. I can't say enough about these guys!! I can now turn my basement into living space for my growing family to use. I can highly recommend these guys for your project. Not only did they remove a damp basement from my home, they removed worries of mold and mildew! I can't wait to have them back to do field stone work around my home.

Avellino Custom Masonry is on of Proponent Federal Credit Union's valued contractors. Billy and his team were extremely thorough, attentive and detailed throughout our entire project. We had numerous water issues in our basement prior to hiring Avellino. After Billy's evaluation and recommendation, we had 6 sump pumps installed in our corporate office space. It's been 3 years since the project's completion. After numerous rain storms and record snow falls, we have not had one water issue in our basement. We are completely protected thanks to Avellino. They are timely, dependable, affordable and meticulous with clean up. I would not hesitate to hire Avellino for future projects or hesitate to recommend them to anyone (residentially or commercially) who needs their services. They are true Masonry, Landscaping and Waterproofing professionals.

It had been over two years since Avellino addressed my water penetration issue and I have not had a recurrence since.

How did it go? It went absolutely fantastic. Avellino Masonry reconstructed the entire front and back yard of my home and added very much needed curb appeal. They designed and constructed an oasis. They did Masonry work (built a large retaining wall, steps, patios), Waterproofing which included 4 french drains, and Landscaping for my front and back yard. I recently did an entire gut job renovation on our newly purchased home in Maplewood and out of all the contractors that we had (and there were A LOT), Avellino Masonry would be at the forefront of people that we'd recommend. When we moved into our home, we had a retaining wall that was crumbling which was very dangerous. We also had a stairway that led to our basement in our back yard which was cracked, buckling and leaking rain water (which came into our basement). We knew that the retaining wall needed to be replaced and that the stairwell needed to be fixed in order to keep rain water from flowing into the basement. We wanted to do this in an inexpensive manner while upgrading the look of our back/front yard and keeping it safe. Fast forward to Avellino Masonry...Billy (the owner) came to my home and had a vision. He had a vision like no other and explained what he would do if it was him, in great detail. He hit the nail on the head! He was able to get us everything that we wanted (and more) - all within budget. He has a fantastic eye. There are plenty of Masonry guys around that do Waterproofing and Landscaping as well, but not like Avellino. There is a reason why most of his employees have been with him since he started his business. These guys do it the right way. They are not like the other "insert name here" and brothers or "insert name here" and sons. They are real deal Masonry's that take pride in their work. They do things that the others can't do. There were plenty of things that came up during the job that most contractors would say was an "unforseen circumstance" and would charge more mid way through the job. This is a common practice that most contractors do as once your yard is torn up, you have no other choice but to pay. Not Avellino...they do what it takes to get the job done for the price that you agree to. Not only that, but you don't pay a dime until the work is completed? Who does that!! His foreman Avellio was like no other. He's been with Billy from day one when he started his company (as with most of his staff) and was at the job site every day along with Billy. If something was wrong, they had them fix it. Billy himself was actually getting his hands dirty some days laying brick - not because he had to, but because he loves what he does. All of the workers were respectful and genuinely nice people...from the landscapers, excavators, waterproofers, masons, etc. They showed up with a smile every day and worked from early morning to early evening. If they have to work Sundays, they will. They do not use sub contractors. These are all full time employees that have been there forever. They transformed my home to look much better (and safer) then ever imagined. No more water in my basement! Gorgeous landscaping and a retaining wall that will outlive my home and could be in architectural magazines! I can't say enough good things about Billy and Avellino Masonry. They restored my faith that there are actually honest contractors out there that take pride in their work. I wouldn't hesitate using them on any project, small or large.

I called Avellino Water Proofing when I noticed the dampness in my basement was getting worse instead of better. They were polite on the phone and we scheduled an estimate the following week. Adam arrived on time and was thorough in his evaluation. Three days later I had a quote for a French drainage system with sump pump and replace of my rear steps. The quote was within 10% of another mason I contacted. The work started about about 3 weeks after I gave them the go ahead and everything was great. The foreman was easy to communicate with, the men were hard working and they treated my home with respect. In 3 days the work was complete and looked fantastic. Trust, that can never be replaced by a low price. I trusted them to do the job right, on time and within their quoted price and they did just that. I have not regrets, just a nice dry basement and beautiful steps

At the end, results were satisfactory, though there were hiccups along the way. New bluestone platform on top of steps were not set correctly, causing them to become loose on the first time they were walked on after set time was allotted. Installed one step incorrectly with cut edge exposed and finished edge butted against house. Finishing work on the pavers was sloppy, not meeting up with existing driveway, other minor problems. All this being said Adam did his best to correct all the situations that the crew left him. Reset top platform twice, re installled step correctly, another crew fixed paver problem. There are some small little things that are still not close to perfect, but job is now I guess acceptable, though some other contractors who came to house for other jobs did comment on some of the cuts and other work. I know there are definitely some problems but I am not terribly turned off and would still consider maybe using them again for future work I have planned, but not really sure. Again, Adam did try to rectify most of the problems.

We contacted Avellino, and to our amazement this is the first contractor we've ever had who arrived on time to perform an inspection, Adam arrived as promised and quickly offered his thoughts and advised we'd have a written quotation by the end of the week, and it arrived as promised. Not only was the quotation fair but all the work to be performed was spelled out and the best surprise was no money down until the work was completed. We have never had a contractor with such confidence in their work that they will accept payment upon completion. We called their office and were given a date for the work to be done, the week before we were contacted to confirm the date, once again not the typical followup we're used to. The date arrived and a work crew showed up as promised at the time promised and the work was completed, including a cleanup which even my wife was happy about. Masonry companies best understand the concrete, stone, drainage, and construction of our homes in New Jersey so we feel there is no better for this type of work. When the work was completed Adam again called for a appointment and came by review the work and pick up a check. For this type of service and workmanship we would have paid more, working with Avellino has been one of the best experiences we've had.

Completely professional. Always punctual and responsive. Always answered or returned calls promptly and with courtesy. Never seemed to have a problem with us changing our minds or plans. Quoted start and end dates for masonry portion of the work and adhered to both with flying colors! Quality of work and cleanup afterwards even was better than expected. Will use Avellino for any future projects and have already recommended the company to many friends.

Was definitely not let down by these guys. Extremely prompt, fast service, outstanding work overall. They put in an irregular bluestone walkway in front of the house. We had an old one that was falling apart and wanted to keep the classic look. They did an awesome job, it looks brand new and better than before yet still very traditional - the exact look we wanted. In the back, they put in a random tile patio using brick we selected. They referred us to a local brickyard where we could check out products laid out in person, which was great. They did the job very quickly too. And when we decided we wanted to go forward with a gas grill installation in a corner of the patio, they called a great plumber who came out right away and did the install on a weekend. And Avellino's guys even dug a deep ditch for the gas line and refilled it - for no additional charge! Extremely impressed by this company and would use them again in a heartbeat for any masonry or exterior work around the house. Price wasn't the cheapest but it was very fair for all the work they did, and money well spent.

Throughout the entire process, including the bidding and estimate activities, Billy displayed an incredible amount of attention to detail and planning. He took precise measurements and photos and during the estimate work had his workers (at his own expense) dig trenches in order to be certain that his approach was one that would produce the best results. When the work commenced (almost a full month of work), the Avellino workers were always on time, courteous and professional. The work was all done to a high standard. Work was cleaned up daily and the area was always left in an orderly fashion. They promptly addressed any questions or suggestions that we had. Overall, Avellino was actually the best contractor that I have ever worked with. They are truly a model of how quality work should be done. Billy's continual attention to detail and his obvious desire to be a perfectionist allows me to give this vendor the highest rating and referral !!

I called around to about four or five masonry contractors when trying to price out this job, and only two of them (Avellino and one other) seemed interested enough to respond at in a timely fashion (or at all in some cases). Avellino had the better price of the two quotes I received, though at the time I thought that the other company seemed a little more professional. However I really liked Adam from Avellino when he came to look at the existing steps. And his price was about $650 less! At times communication with Adam was tricky, a bit of phone tag and one or two emails with no reply. And the scheduling was a little vague. But I was not surprised or upset by anything and was always able to get an answer without anything becoming a problem or delaying the work. When the crew did show up to perform the work, they were on time and finished the entire demolition and rebuild in one day. Since they didn't have to dig and pour a new footing this was possible, but I was still impressed. The crew left the yard and driveway pretty much exactly as they found it, cleaning up nicely and taking away all the refuse except the old handrail. The new steps look great, and to my non-expert eye appear to be very well built. Better than the previous set for sure. It's a bit hard to say if they will stand the test of time, but I am very happy with the result. The only outstanding thing at this moment is a receipt for my payment, as Adam was unable to provide one when I gave him the payment. He has promised me that he will send a receipt so that should take care of it.

There's a crew of maybe 4 or 5 because it was quite a large project. They all worked extremely hard all day long from the time they got here to the time they left. There's no goofing off or anything like that, no wasting time. The time they mostly took for lunch was like only 10 to 15 minutes. The work looked like it was done by people that actually take a pride in their work and not just doing it for money. They were all Italian. I would use them again if I had to.

They did a great job. As I said, this was a very complicated process, so it was hard to find someone who had the skillset to do everything in-house. Avellino did a great job and got it all taken care of. They figured out the best way to do this, taking a lot of time to make sure they had the best solution. They were by far the most thorough of all the people I contacted in terms of putting together a bid and discussing what really needed to be done. I was very pleased with their work. They didn't miss a day even though we had such an extremely stormy spring and early summer: they rigged up a tarp to protect the work and just kept working.

It went very well. The crew finished the job in one day. Clean up was good with minor damage to some nearby plantings. Adam gave us a free estimate and the work provided was exactly as written up in the estimate. The price for the completed job was exaclty as the estimate. Crew were courteous and hard working.

-Adam project managed our job. Throughout the process he was timely, accountable and professional. -The crew did excellent work and always allowed me to ask questions/make suggestions along the way. -They finished the project on time and worked in tandem with the company building our deck, as the projects needed to be coordinated with each other.

Working with this contractor was pleasant and professional from beginning to end. We were given a very reasonable quote and our specific requests were addressed. The end result was a beautiful new sidewalk, front steps and patio. The skill and workmanship were top of the line and the people were polite and professional. Since we had the work done, we have had a few contractors at our home for other projects who also commented on the fine workmanship. We highly recommend them!!!

I chose not to do the project, because we thought we might move. It had nothing to do with Avellino Custom Masonry. I was very happy with their estimate, their response, and the guy who came. I would have liked using them, but at that point we didn't know what we were doing. They were completely on time, they told me when the were coming, they told me the guy's name who was going to show up. I was very happy with the estimate. Based on what I have seen I would not hesitate to use them. They do interesting things if you look on their website.

They did good work and were very professional. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and did a really good job; it came out nice. It seems like they had a decent price but the way they approached the job gave us more confidence in them. They were certainly not the highest price; I think they were in the middle.
