Until we needed to switch from cable to 6G wireless, Vonage worked well enough. However, nothing we could do would make it work with wireless, and cable isn't affordable in our market. BUT.....they badgered me when I told them I wanted to leave. We both bought new cell phones and got a joint plan on Dec. 4. And -- in spite of many requests -- for over a month Vonage hasn't transferred our number. That's illegal, of course. The FCC regs require same day transfer. Vonage staff just keep repeating that they did their part and they claim that it's all Consumer Cellular's fault. However, it's clear from their email replies that Vonage doesn't even actually read my emails, because they don't answer my questions. I have 30+ emails among me, Vonage, and Consumer Cellular trying to resolve this problem. (I can forward them all in a single LONG email post on request.) And I spent a dozen hours or more on the phone. According to several techs from my cell phone service, this isn't an isolated incident, but happens frequently. AND, you lose the number forever if you stop paying the earlier provider before the number is transferred. By law, they are supposed to transfer the number on the same day. So it appears that this illegal practice is bringing in a lot of revenue. I have had this number for 12 years. I do a LOT of volunteer work, serve on a national board, and for the past 12 years, my phone number has been printed on a LOT of stationary, directories, programs and booklets. So this could cost me contacts and a lot of money for printing. But it's not just about me, because this appears to be Vonage's customary practice. Think of how many friends and relatives have lost touch because the phone number is no longer good! This especially affects older folks who often have to move because of infirmity, and are less likely to be Internet savvy. They can just "disappear." My case # at Vonage is [vonage.com #28375523] Vonage's headquarters is at 23 Main St/Holmdel, NJ 07733NJ My principle contact there is Cindy Terzino, Executive Response Team, Escalations Manager, Her hours M thru F 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST t: 732-226-0027 f: 732-231-6783 Please advise me about what remedies I might have.

Response from VONAGE
This letter is in regards to a complaint you received from our customer requesting to port out her phone number to another provider. The port out process usually takes anywhere from 7-15 business days. The number was ported out to another provider on 2/7/13. We no longer have this number in our system and the customer’s Vonage account is closed. The customer is also requesting a refund for the December charge. However the refund was already issued on 1/4/13 for the December invoice. There was also another refund issued on 1/7/13 for the January invoice. I have issued a refund for the February invoice as well. It will take 3-5 business days to appear on her bank statement. The customer also indicated that she would lose her number if she canceled her Vonage account. However, if you cancel your account, a customer has 30 days to port out their number to another provider. After the 30 days, the number goes back to the original carrier that it came from. It does not stay in our system. Furthermore, it does not take 1 day to port out a number. That only applies if you’re porting your number from one wireless company to another. VOIP and land line transfers take anywhere from 7-15 business days. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for contacting the Executive Response Team.

We decided to go with Vonage because we make International calls. We have used them for about 3 or 4 years. They have excellent customer service, technical support and if you make International Calls then Vonage is worth the extra expense. We pay 230.00 a year for unlimited calls and we love it. I give them an A rating and will continue to use them.

We signed up for Vonage phone service to replace our local phone service. Vonage requires a high-speed Internet connection for phone calls. Vonage provided me with a wireless Internet router that also has a plug for my phone. The quality of the calls seem to be a bit lower than with the phone company, but the price is about 1/3 of what we previously paid. I have noticed that if I have intense Internet traffic (file sharing, large downloads) the phone quality will be affected. In some cases it cuts out, but this is rare. We use our home phone service infrequently, so Vonage works well for us. They also let you transfer your existing phone number, which is nice.
