JL Molding Design

The best description I can give to the work that JL Molding does is transformational - it literally will change an ordinary home into a model home! I first met with John from JL Molding earlier this year to get estimates for wainscoting and crown molding in our home. We also had 2 projects that were custom - one was converting a standard closet into what I would describe as a mudroom bench and the other was building bookshelves recessed into our basement walls in an area that had about 2 feet between the wall and the foundation. I was impressed with John from the beginning for a number of reasons. Not only did he offer great ideas to do the projects better, but he spent a good amount of time at our house taking measurements and making sure the solutions met our needs. Most importantly, John was friendly, very professional and answered ALL follow-up questions regarding the projects via text, email or phone. The days the projects were completed John and his team showed up on time and got the work scheduled for that particular day done by the end of the day. His team consists of an amazing group of carpenters/craftsmen who do the job right the first time and are extremely courteous and professional. The end results are truly transformational and after all the work was painted our house looks amazing! I would highly recommend JL molding and I am now thinking of additional projects that I can have him do in the future!

John was a true professional. He gave me a detailed estimate, room by room, and answered all my questions. The molding was delivered a couple of days ahead of the job and he and his crew showed up right on time and worked throughout the day. At the end of the installation John walked me through the house reviewing all work with me. I was very happy with the work and the professionalism of John and his crew. They cleaned up at the end of the day. A true pleasure. I recommend John highly and would be happy to use him again.

John met with me and wife prior to the job to discuss what we were thinking. He provided some feedback on his thoughts and recommendations based on his experience. He made recommendations that reduced our cost because it did not add any value to our project. He provided his estimate in a timely fashion and offered a coupon he has for Angie's list members which I was not aware of. John and his staff did a great job on his portion of our project. There was a portion of the project that we were not happy with the result (to no fault of his own), and he was quick to respond and correct. Overall we were very happy with John's professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to customer service. His team is also friendly, courteous, and professional. I look forward to working with John again on our next project. A+ work and businessman.

John and his team are phenomenal. My wife and I are perfectionists and John is too. It made for transforming our home into something magnificent. If you want any kind of molding, this is the company to use!

Everything went fairly well. They came and did all the work in one day. They worked with me to schedule delivery of all items prior to the work so that worked well for me. I have a few areas of damaged sheetrock in my walls so during the quote process they mentioned an area of my wall in which I would want to have a handyman come and fix in order to install what I wanted properly into the sheetrock. Basically things that I would not have thought of which were fairly easy to fix for anyone that's handy but needed in order to nail the molding properly. I have an early 70's house with A LOT of non-even corners and settling in my walls. Nothing is even or straight. I would figure you would need a PhD. in math to figure out how to do those crown molding corners in my house but they were able to get it ready for our painter to just caulk in the space and go. For me they were very prompt, very responsive to my questions and on time. Basically what you would want from a contractor. I had gotten a few quotes for the work. They weren't the cheapest but were also not the most expensive either. I have no complaints and would definitely use again. When I do my other rooms.

John and his team did a great job. John explained each part of the job step by step and made great suggestions for the designs. Johns team was very professional in all aspects of the job. We would definitely use jl molding again in the future.

Did a great job and even though had to do some tweaking to some kitchen cabinets they did a super job and wife is really happy. Fantastic communication also and very easy to deal with.

John arrived as agreed upon for the estimate appointment. The purpose of the appointment was to get suggestions to add a little more character to my home. The lack of molding seemed to make the house look too open and cold. My house currently has wood stained molding from the eighties throughout and I am having it painted white. Prior to having the painting done I wanted to address the molding situation. He walked through the house with me and provided suggestions which I thought were helpful. I agreed to have crown molding added to the entry foyer and kitchen. Shoe molding was also added throughout the house as needed. John and his crew arrived as scheduled on the agreed upon date of installation. The team was professional, efficient, neat and skilled. They installed the crown molding, shoe molding, and corrected some existing floor molding issues throughout the house. They also replaced molding around the laundry room door. They completed the work in one day! The wood stained molding and the new shoe molding is in the process of being painted. Small changes make quite a difference. The house looks cleaner and more modern. I am really glad that I decided to have the work done. I highly recommend JL Molding Design.

I have to say the workmanship is excellent - it completely transformed our rooms. We've gotten so many compliments on the work, and we haven't even painted yet. John was very easy to work with and very meticulous. He personally oversees the entire job and makes sure his clients are completely satisfied with the work. He's excellent with design proposals and ideas, he kept us involved through the entire process, and walked us through everything completely when the job was finished. There was very minimal mess, and the team cleaned up and left our home the way they found it, but with more beauty. We're already thinking about other projects we want to do -and we'll definitely be calling John back.

John and his crew are professional and meticulous. I used Angie's List to find them and am not disappointed. All the reviews were spot on.

I am not usually the reviewer type but needed to do one in this time... John did a fantastic job. He is very knowledgeable of his trade and also very trustworthy. He takes the time to explain everything to you every step of the way and has great advise when you need it. Even if the advise means less scope which is rare. From the proposal to completion everything was top notch. The quote was very clearly done including cost breakdown and sample photos of the materials we chose. John was also perfect when it came to scheduling. Materials arrived on site the day and minute he said they would and on the day of the install, John and his crew arrived right on time. John took the time to set up and prep properly and when the job was complete took the time to walk through every detail to make sure we were satisfied. The post job cleanup was also great which if you have had contractors in your home before, you know can be a challenge. It looked like they were not even there. I would certainly recommend JL Molding for any architectural finish carpentry project. In fact, our project initially did not include all of the crown molding we eventually did but after seeing the first phase of completed work, we called John back for more. We are now looking at a new railing system for our staircase which we hope to get him back in to do in the next few weeks. Again, I can count on one hand how many times I have done reviews but I was nervous hiring someone that did not come through a family member or friend and turned to Angies List and entrusted in these reviews. I am glad I did so figured it was only right I do the same...

Contacted John Wednesday September 24th 2014 looking for a faux 3 piece crown molding for my two story entryway. He responded promptly and asked for pictures of my entryway. He quickly made a suggestion on which two moldings to combine and how much space to leave between them in order to create the illusion of a three piece crown molding. He sent me photos of other jobs with the moldings in question. He provided a detailed contract with a full breakdown of both the labor and material costs. I accepted his extremely professional proposal and he came on Saturday with one of his guys and completed his work in three hours. This guy is the real deal. Professional, courteous and a real craftsman. I highly recommend John and JL Molding Design.

I used the company in May, 2014 for a sizable molding job. I paid them $11,000. I then contacted John, the owner, on 12/17/2014 for some addition small work which would compliment what was done. He told me "no problem" and that he would get to it. and really appreciated my business. I sent him pictures, dimensions, etc so he would not have to waste a lot of time on a smaller job (although I already paid him $11,000 so you think that would matter). He sent me some sketches and an estimate which I accepted and wanted to schedule the work. On 12/19/2014 I was told "we took the rest of the year off". Really? He just finished telling me how busty he was. Whatever, so I contacted him again in January to check on things. Several emails were sent with no response. Later in January and then throughout February, I was told they were busy and would get to my project soon. This went on into March when I was strung along time after time. Then finally on 3/20/2015 John the owner tells me "we can't get to your project". Are you kidding? He could have certainly told that to me 3 months earlier when he told me "we took the rest of the year off". The moral of the story? John was all over me when I had a big job for him. But when it came to something smaller AND FOR AN EXISTING CUSTOMER THAT PAID HIM $11,000, his true business acumen surfaced. Stay away from JL Molding. I subsequently found a much more professional company for the job who were reliable and did a a terrific job. And by the way, they are a much larger company than JL Molding (John only does this part time) and welcomed my "small job".

JL Molding Design did an exceptional job installing wainscoting, crown molding and base boards for us. We had just finished painting the rooms where the installation was taking place. John and his team were extremely careful not to leave a mark on the freshly painted walls. They took great care to ensure everything was left just as it was when they arrived. We are very pleased with their work and professionalism. We will definitely look to hire JL Molding Design again for any future wood working needs.

I recently purchased a house and wanted a upgraded look by adding crown molding. So I whipped out the laptop and called a few molding companies. I scheduled a quote walkthrough with John and it went really well. He knew what he's talking about. He brought up a box full of molding designs and I was overwhelmed, but instead of telling me to pick - he took a few out one that matched my baseboards for me to choose from. That definitely saved me a lot of time. In the end, I did not use them to install my crown molding, but did purchase the molding from them because I felt that the time they spent explaining molding installation and picking design to fit the house definitely deserve some of my business. The molding came on time and after install, looked perfect. Will definitely refer them to friends.

First, John is very prompt with all responses to emails unlike many other contractors I have dealt with in the past. He even made a special trip to my home on a Sunday, so he could speak to my husband. He offers good advice when planning what type of molding to install. His pricing is fair and reasonable. He arrived at my home with a crew of four at 8 am and was all finished at 5 pm. John also recommended painters to me whom I did eventually hire. A large part of my home was amazingly transformed in one day! I love the molding and asked him to install a little more before the painters came. I also asked him for estimates for installing molding in my living room and dining room. His molding is addictive!

The quality of the molding work done by John and his crew was exceptional. The molding has completely transformed my home and I am very happy with the results. John and his crew were highly professional and completed the job in a timely manner. I appreciated how they cleaned up after themselves and took great care not to damage my newly finished floors. John also provided excellent customer service. He followed up with me immediately after the job was completed to make sure I was completely satisfied. He was a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend his services.

From first contact with John everything was quick but very detailed and thorough. Through email and text messages we were able to discuss exactly what I wanted and the details of the job. John worked around my ever changing work schedule and my new railing looks great. I had him stain it prior to install and it looks perfect. While he was here I asked for a chair rail estimate, his price was great and he was able to do it on the spot. John and his worker were very neat and cleaned up well after the job. I would use him again in a heartbeat!

John came and gave me a estimate for installing kitchen cabinets and was very helpful and answered all of my questions. I ended up not using there services due to the fact that the cabinet manufacturer gave me a deal I couldn't turn down if one of there installers did the installation. I would of chose them otherwise because of his professionalism and competitive price.

It was a very good experience. They are very dependable and reliable. The work that was done was a completely positive experience. I would certain recommend them or use them again if need be.
