Overall very satisfied with the move. I was hoping to get a lower estimate (hoping for only two workers) since we only had a fraction of a house to move, but in the end they worked steadily with no downtime and we ended up just under what was originally estimated (including travel time of course), so for three men and a truck the estimate was fairly accurate. As for the work, they actually did some extra disassembling and "wrapping" more than I initially expected but that didn't slow them down. We both ran into some hiccups with stubborn bolts and loose pegs, but in the end it all came together. The crew listened to my concerns, answered questions, and proposed solutions for each one. I'm usually a tough grader, and to be honest, my initial instinct was to rate the overall experience a B+, but that option is not available and since I could not think of any specific "bad" experiences, I realized that it was only fair to give them all "A"s across the board.
Description of Work: Moved heavier major furniture items -- including living room set, desks, beds, piano, and dining room set -- not museum pieces and not boxed belongings, so there were minimal opportunities for breakage or problems. They loaded out from our old house, drove to our new house, and unloaded in under 5 hours.

The guys were courteous and absolutely professional. They went out of their way to ensure nothing got damaged. Everything was packaged with loving-care. Honestly, NOT ONE THING broke or was damaged. There were a few remaining things not packed yet... They even helped me pack up wardrobes and brought in extra boxes when I didn't have enough. They also were very neat and took pride in what they did. I would absolutely recommend them again.

The move went very well. It was a last minute job (days notice) so that was great they were available. I had a lot of stuff. I had four guys and one truck load. I did have to bring some stuff myself in a work van because the truck was full and I didn't want to take the time for 2 trips since I paid by the hour. It took about 8 hours from start to finish. However I was charged for their drive to and from my home which was about 45 minutes each way, so I was charged for 10 hours. I was also charged 5% for gas. The guys were all great and worked hard. The only disappointment was later the next day I found one of my pieces broken in a box laying in the garbage pile on the street. Accidents happen and I wasn't so mad that something was broken but what upset me was that whoever broke it did not tell me. Other than that they were great.
Description of Work: I moved form one house to another (10 minutes apart). I had a 4 bedroom split level home. They moved all my furniture and boxes.

Great! We couldn't be happier. We did move some boxes to a storage unit ourselves initially because we were moving into temporary housing. We will definitely call Statewide again when we find our dream home!
Description of Work: Moved most of the contents into a garage in front of our temporary home. It was scorching HOT. The guys were so appreciative of the cold water we supplied. They were focused and worked feverishly. A week later, they moved the items out of the garage and into our townhouse. (3 bedroom home to 2 bedroom townhouse).

Due to real estate closing delays State-Wide was very accommodating with date changes several times. The day of the move they arrived and immediately started moving furniture out from a second floor location. The two men worked well together with a very efficient system and were very careful not to damage anything. They were very polite and helpful. We never had to leave our belongings in a moving van overnight before, so I was a bit worried, but the next day they arrived and moved everything in. Everything was intact and I was very satisfied with the work they performed. I would use them again.

The six men that moved our furniture and multitude of boxes were prompt, courteous and very skilled at what they did. It was so refreshing to see a team of movers (who obviously worked together frequently) do their jobs very well. There was not a scratch on any of our newly painted walls going up 2 flights of stairs or in any of the rooms. Also there was no damage to any of the furniture that they handled. Various individuals of this team even had helpful suggestions for furniture placement. They were polite and cheerful as they went about their business, and got the job done by the end of the day... which was a miracle, since our lockers were stuffed to the ceiling with possessions from 2 homes. I would call this company again in a heartbeat! Also, the pricing was very reasonable.

Terrible. Before the contract was signed everything was fine, but after the contract was signed and I voiced my opinion their demeanor changed. We requested a clean truck with no used boxes. They immediately developed an attitude when I made this request. I had personal items that I was afraid would get dirty and I did not think this was an unreasonable request. I was also worried about bed beds. We were over charged for packing and had many damaged items once the move was complete. The things they did pack were packed incorrectly. They packed a live plant in a box surrounded by packing paper and tape the box closed. They also packed antique lamps in the same box as floor tiles with no packing paper! Several of my bottles of cleaning supplies were stolen as well! They demonstrated extremely inappropriate behavior and felt uncomfortable at times. At the delivery site they threatened to leave my items in the middle of the street because it was too much work for them and they were running late for another job. The owner of State-Wide Moving & Storage was called and asked for the work to be completed. The owner called the employees and I heard them arguing saying the work was "too much. " When I called regarding the damage and the overcharges, Rob claimed I did not take additional insurance which I DID pay him 80$ for coverage! I am just wanting reimbursement for the broken items. Please stay away from this company.

This is the WORST moving company! They sent 3 young guys. We were having our wood floors done. The quote was for the piano. (a 3 hour minimum) So we asked if they could move a mirror & computer desk we needed moved to fill the 3 hour minimum. They tried to swindle my husband into signing the "No damage" section of the paperwork BEFORE they moved anything. He said it was OK to sign "because they never damage anything." (first clue) Moving out was fine- Moving back in, they didn't want to come in the a.m., yet agreed to 8:30 & were 1 hr late. After moving JUST the piano, they removed all the protective floor runners. They said they were done. They charged us a 3 hr minimum it was only a half an hour. They were mad at us because they insisted it was just the piano. They gauged the new wood floor in the entry and stole my ratcheting screwdriver. The owner said they never wanted to come at 8:30 and all those things happened only because they were trying to accommodate us. Never again!!!

On the day of packing things seemed to go pretty well. During the final truck loading is when things started to go badly. I had an antique table that they placed on top of one of the steel moving dollies. I pointed it out to the man loading the truck and he became annoyed and testy and suggested I move it myself. I told them I was paying them to move the items. I asked them to wrap it in blankets and they did but i questioned whether it would still be damaged and whether it was wrapped properly. I was assured it would be fine. Skip to end, arrived damaged. On the day of delivery, the 2 trucks were scheduled to arrive. The 1st truck arrived later than scheduled and the 2nd truck did not show up at 1st. After several hours I was told the other truck had broken down and they had to unload the other truck and reload onto a new one. I understand that unforeseen things happen and the other truck breaking down is outside of their control, so no penalty there. However, it is clear that when they moved items between trucks they did not take care in doing so and many items were damaged as a result. In terms of the unloading, the men who did the work were hard working and conscientious. The issue has come with the management and over quality of the move. 11 substantial Items were broken and at least one item missing. Mostly I suspect when they had to transfer items to the new truck. I was only notified of 3 items being broken. One Chair broken so badly they threw it away and the other was a Fooseball table that had a large hole punched in the side of it and a partially crushed rolling toolbox. Additionally broken damaged was the aforementioned antique table, an antique chair completely broken and tucked away where it was not found for several days, a rolling desk with broken side panels, a broken TV cabinet, severely scratched and damaged gun safe, several crushed metal storage carts and I am missing a my drill press. Many boxes, although clearly marked were put in the wrong rooms. That issue absent the above I could live with and would not be a substantial reason to mark the score down. At the time of the move as you know you must sign a document that says everything is in good order, but given the volume of items you really have no idea so it is a bit of a farce. They want you to pay on the spot and sign on the line. I don't think this is unique to this company. During the wrap up and walk through I pointed out the broken items that they had told me about and I asked for some kind of financial consideration. At that point I got the story that I didn't tell them the house was three stories, there were more stairs then they expected, they had to move a couch 2x since we didn't like it where it was etc. On the last point, they are movers! I can't be the 1st customer to ask for an item to be relocated. On top of that I tipped the guys who moved it again $40 just for that as well as giving one of our large couches that did not fit into the house to one of the guys. I clearly told them it was three stories as it is a 100+ YO Victorian and we discussed how tall it was and the staircases at the time of the estimate. At that point I was just too tired and weary to fight with the owner over the 3 broken items that I knew of at the time as it was clear it was just going to get contentious. I decided I would wait and use this forum after all the items had been unpacked. This company advertises itself as art and antique moving specialists. They were careless with several of our antiques which were broken as well as the other items listed. Total damage is approximately $1,000 against a $7,000 move. I am sadly disappointed and had a very different experience than the reviews indicate. Based on how my move went and how I was handled by the owner, I am confident that my experience is not unique. I would not trust them with valuable or fragile items if that is part of what you plan to move.

Response from State-Wide Moving & Storage
In regard to the member's move we would like to respond to the review submitted by the shipper. Let us preamble this review by offering a little background about our company. State-Wide Moving & Storage performs approximately 800-1000 moves per year, locally and long distance. We take pride in each and every job thus reflecting in our ratings with BBB (A+) and with Angie's List (A) as well as our stellar reputation in the moving industry. With that being said no one nor any business is perfect and once in a very rare while a situation occurs during a move that is less then exemplary. In his case, State-Wide did a complete house pack and move. We also agree 'd to accommodate the shipper's request to "hold" the furniture and boxes on the trucks for 2 days. This, being one of the busiest weeks of the entire year for moving, creating a burden for us but saving the shipper thousands of dollar's. (not unloading into storage then re-loading a second time) We also went up and beyond the normal practice on moving jobs; re-arranging furniture in the shipper's new home 3,4,5 times due to the unusual layout of the new home and the shipper being undecided of the placement of the furniture. We had given the shipper a binding rate and was not nor did not charge any extra for the additional hour's the job took or for the supervisor and myself, the owner, to be on the job as an additional laborers. One of our trucks did experience a mechanical failure on the way to the shipper's home which could not be repaired on the roadside. We decided that best way to handle this situation was to have the truck towed back to our warehouse to unload the shipper's items onto another one of our trucks then have the truck towed to garage for repairs. YES this did cost more in towing fee's and YES it did tie up another one of our trucks but we felt the shipper should not be inconvenienced any further at no matter what costs we'd incur. Along the way, perhaps during the truck being towed or maybe on switching the furniture onto a different truck some damages did arise. We weren't happy about this and truly felt horrible. The shipper at the time of the move, knew we did not intend to have the truck break down or these damages occur and saw we were going up and beyond the call of duty to satisfy them. When the move was finally completed the shipper and myself agreed that we could not control the situation and felt the additional work performed, at NO extra cost would equal out the damages and was satisfied with the job as a whole and signed all required paperwork. He even tipped the men for their hard work and professionalism. We, although felt bad, were happy the shipper understood and thought that we did our best under these unfortunate circumstances. The hand shake at the end of the job confirmed these feelings. Now 7 months after the job was completed the shipper writes an unhappy and downright surprising bad review about our company and even asks for a $500.00 settlement? Why wasn't this made aware at the time of the move or, at least within the 90 day time period, consumer's have to make an insurance claim? Frankly we are confused and not sure how to respond to this besides just stating our case and standing behind our work. We're sorry this shipper had a bad experience but we did everything we could to rectify the situation but will not entertain a monetary refund 7 month's after the fact. Lastly we would like to thank any potential customer's who've taken this time to read our response and hope this show's our hand's on approach to our business and our concern for all our customer's. We fully intend for 2011 to be another outstanding year for State-Wide Moving and all our moving customer's. Michael, (president) c/o State-Wide Moving & Storage Co., Inc.

We had very little time to prepare for the move, but they were able to accommodate us without a problem. The estimate was given over the phone. They arrived on time and worked very quickly and carefully. They took great care to not cause any damage to our home or belongings. Every piece of furniture was wrapped with blankets. They also put down a protective runner on the carpet in the apartment to make sure there was no dirt left on the carpet. I would definitely use them again.

This company performed a local apartment move at very reasonable prices. I did all the packing so they moved furniture and boxes. I asked them to take a few things to the dumpster which they readilly agreed. They even boxed up my LCD TV at no charge for the box. When they arrived they provided wardrobes at no charge which I packed while they removed the furniture/boxes . Any request I made was obliged and they worked quicky and efficiently. The whole move took approximately 3 hours. If needed, I will definitely use them again and I recommend them.

Overall, I found the 3-man crew competent and professional. They got the work done on time and as quoted, which is 90% of what you want from a mover. They were almost 1/2 hour late, though, because they were pulled over by the police for driving without seat belts. But again, the work got done in plenty of time. One preference I would have had was for them to put down plastic where they were walking on beige carpet. They also didn't cover upholstered furniture, nor was this offered, as far as I know (I was tending to a baby most of the move). What they did do especially well was move our things in exactly the order we specified, which was important to not disrupt the baby's routine. She didn't even drop her nap, and I give credit to the movers for keeping the usual moving chaos to an absolute minimum.

State-Wide did a great job of performing our move. They came on time with 4 men and carefully moved all of our things, many of which were glass or expensive. I had no hidden charges, broken items, or complaints. Towards then end we started running out of room in the truck and instead of not caring, they put in the time and effort to figure out the best way to get all contents. I would 100% call them again or recommend them to others.

They were absolutely great. I will use them again and I will recommend them. As a matter of fact I am storing some stuff over there with them. What was good was that they gave me an estimate that actually came in close to the actual cost, unlike the time I moved before when I got a low estimate and it ended up costing three times the estimate. The one bill to pack it up, move it into the truck and take it to a storage facility was $1390.00 and it took four and a half hours to do it. Overall, they were great. Their price was reasonable for the work they did. If I want to move again, I will definitely use them. They came highly recommended from Angie's List and I am happy I used them. I was thoroughly happy with them.

They were great. No scratches, no holes, no damage to our property at all. Some of the furniture was really heavy, and getting it out of the apartment was very difficult but they did it with no problems what-so-ever. We shopped around on price, and most companies were within $20 of each other, but they were the lowest. We already have a deal with them if we decide to move again.
