At first, the work Doug's employee did looked good, but after everything was done, about 24 tiles were popping when we walked on them. After several days of Doug not responding to me or my GC he finally told me his guy would be back. When his employee showed up, he had excuses as to why it was popping and said he brought better mortar. After I left for work, his employee clearly left soon after only replacing 5 tiles, not 24. One of the replaced ones is popping still. Doug will not reply to calls or texts. He took my cash and ran. Do not hire this crook.

This will not be a bashing of a business just the facts about services and reliability. We hired Doug Donohue to remove and install tiles in our kitchen. We were given a start date of Monday February 23, 2015. Since we had not heard from Doug my husband called Doug on Sunday night to find out what time he would be starting. He said he could not start on Monday he was still working on another job. Again we did not hear from Doug so on Monday night my husband called him to see what time he would be starting on Tuesday. He again told us that he could not start on Tuesday. At this point we were wondering if he was reliable. My husband took the week off of work for this to be done and two days have now passed and no work has begun. Tuesday night we called him again to see if we were on for Wednesday and he finally said yes. He would be at our home between 8am and 8:30am. Wednesday time went by and at 9am he finally showed up to begin work. He came alone; we were told he would be working with a crew since our kitchen is approximately 360 square feet. When we asked where his help was he said his partner?s girlfriend died and would not be in today. He worked alone and my husband felt bad so he began to help him. He then said he forgot garbage cans for the tile and left for an hour to get them. He worked until 4pm and when he left the entire kitchen was still a mess. There were broken tiles all around garbage cans in the house filled with tiles. My husband worked after he left to try to clean up some of the mess. Thursday no show, my husband called him and he said his truck broke down. We told him he had to get here our house is in total disarray. Finally he arrived at 11am and worked until 3pm and said he had to go get his truck. He left leaving all the garbage still in the house. My husband was so tired of seeing the garbage he and my son took all of the garbage out to the front of our home. Friday again no show, my husband called again since Doug never seems to call if he is going to be late or not showing up at all. He said his truck broke down again. At this point we were so upset we really didn?t know what to do. Finally at 1:40pm he arrived to find my husband removed almost all the wooden sub-floor that was half removed when Doug left the day before. He worked until 3pm and left saying he would be back at 9am Saturday. Saturday, he actually arrived on time. He came to install the new sub-floor which he quoted as backer board. He came in with this orange rolled up underlayment for tile called Schluter Ditra. We never heard of this and he said it is better. He worked until 12pm and then he said he was leaving. My husband asked him to start to tile and he said he couldn?t and he could not work on Sunday. We asked him to remove the trash outside which was part of his service. He said he don?t have his truck so he could not take trash. My husband and son removed all the trash, except for the garbage cans with tiles. Sunday we made a decision to cut our losses, we already paid him ½ of the quoted price but we just could not continue on with someone so unreliable. We now will have to live with a home in disarray until we can find someone to install the tiles. I hope the above FACTS will help you make an educated decision on hiring or not hiring Douohue Tile & Marble.
