COWAN'S SOUTH JERSEY MASONRY, LLC

We have been clients of Cowan’s Masonry for the last five years. We moved into a house that had a chimney that was in need of repair. It had a horrible down draft, leaked, and several of the bricks were broken. Mr. Cowan had some great ideas on how to cost effectively repair the chimney and fix the damper, and in a couple of days, had it in great shape (looks a lot nicer too). We use it every winter and now only need the yearly cleaning which Cowan’s provides as well. We have had great experiences with Cowan’s Masonry and find Mr. Cowan to be courteous, professional, and prompt and we highly recommend his company.

Good Morning- I own a home that needed chimney work done so I called Cowan Masonry and I received a call back from Robert Cowan who came out to my house today on 11/2/16. Upon arrival I explained chimney issues, settlement date and requested him to write an estimate. I was told by him that he can only give a verbal estimate and for a written estimate he would have to charge $175.00. I explained to him that this was never mentioned to me while on the phone and explained I needed to show the estimate to 3 other people involved. I told him how displeased I was with him on this false advertisement and how I would have not had him come out if he would have told me about the $175.00. He walked out of my house, never came back in to say anything and just left. I have never dealt with someone as unprofessional as him and just want to warn others before they decide to call him for work.

Mr. Cowan answered my call when I needed help, I had called someone else because I had forgotten I had used Mr. Cowan's services before. The person never called me back. Mr. Cowan had his men at my house before he said he could do the job and they even mended up a few bricks on the side that were in need of some TLC. They cleaned up and I didn't have to worry about the mess from the old bricks at all. It was a big load off my mind. If I need Mr. Cowan again for any mason work, I won't forget him next time.

Cowan's South Jersey Masonry, LLC, did an excellent job at our house with an old and tall oil burner chimney. The chimney needed to be cleaned with possibly a liner installed. I was told by another service that a brick arch at the top of the chimney would have to be removed to allow this work, and that they would not be able to replace the arch. We wanted to preserve it. I spoke with Mr. Cowan several times and we discussed different options. They were able to clean the chimney from the bottom up and also removed the soot and other accumulation from the base. A pipe from the furnace into the chimney had to be removed. They left the work areas very clean. On the exterior of the chimney they applied a sealant to protect the bricks from further weather damage. In the future, a liner can be installed from the bottom of the chimney which would leave the exterior appearance of the chimney in its original condition. I would not hesitate to use Cowan Masonry in the future for additional restoration and repair work. The breakdown of the cost: chimney cleaning: $175; removal of debris from chimney by cutting a hole in the bottom of the chimney, removal of existing pipe, installation of a new heater crock and pipe reset: $500; seal chimney exterior: $300.

Bob Cowan, the owner was very personable and was kind enough to give me an estimate for the repairs in April at no charge and he was ok with the fact that I would need time to gather the funds before we could go ahead with the repairs. He advised me that the estimate was good until the end of the summer and he honored that statement. His men spent two days working at my house and I found them to be very respectful and hard working. He even thru in a repair on my front steps as they were finishing up!

My chimney looks brand new again. I initially called Bob Cowan on a Saturday morning at 7:00 am to ask him to look at my chimney to give me an estimate. It is 26 years old and was cracked and deteriorated. He answered my call and told me he would be out within the next couple of days to look at it. Bob came the next day (Sunday afternoon) looked at it and gave me his price. I called him later that week and offered him the job after getting four other estimates. He said that he would call me back when he got back to his office to see when we could schedule the job. He called me back as promised and gave me the start date. Weather prevented him from starting the job when scheduled but he stayed in touch with me and started after the inclement weather passed. Bob personally did much of the work on my chimney and also had helpers. The final coat of stucco needed to match the color of the stucco on my house which is in very nice condition but the color is faded since my house is 26 years old. Bob matched it perfectly. I love the outcome and final look of my chimney. My only hope is that it won't crack and deteriorate again. Bob assured me that it won't and he said that he stands by all of his work. Bob seems to be a good man with a strong work ethic who is an expert in his field.

Good quality work. Owner is very responsive to all questions and concerns. I am not an easy customer as I always ask a lot of questions when it comes to work on my house, the owner provided me with information and detailed explanation. Since I had a positive experience, I am planing other projects with this company.

Mr. Cowan was very responsive. He came out timely and performed the work as described. He also recommended some additional work that needed to be done. He took his work very seriously and did an excellent job. I believe he was a little highly priced, but it is very difficult to find a reliable chimney contractor, and therefore, well worth it.

We had a new roof installed and thought the roof was leaking but our roofer came out and said the chimney was leaking. Cowan confirmed the chimney was leaking. The job took approximately two days. They worked quickly and the finish looked great. We are hoping to get Cowan back out again to complete the rest of the Chimney.

Both Mr. Cowan and his staff were very neat and did a super job on my chimney, they took their time and fixed the top of the chimney and made a new "crown" for my chimney to stop the rain from causing a problem. The materials that were used in the repairs will keep my roof and attic free from any issues from the chimney. I would highly recommend Mr. Cowan and his company for all of your issues with chimneys. I was very happy with their work and his expertise on how to fix my problems.

Mr Cowan came out and assessed my problem with a failing Chimney. My chimney was crumbling from the inside and desperately needed a liner and some minor repairs. The pipe going from my heating system was barely held together and loose. Mr Cowan came out and assessed my situation and wrote up a fair estimate for the work. Mr Cowan and his team came over on X-Mas Eve and completed the work. They were professional , courteous and clean. I called Mr. Cowan on the recommendation of Angie's List. I never met Mr. Cowan just spoked to him on the telephone. He came out the next day checked the bricks on the chimney and fireplace and call me to tell me the problems. I was not at home but I trusted him to do a good job. He gave me a price and I gave him the go ahead. He trusted me to pay him and I trusted him to do a good job. He did a great job. The next day I overnighted him a check for the amount. I would recommend him to anyone who need this kind of work. He is not only great at what he does but he is honest. I praise God for people like him.

Bob, fought the weather for a few days getting here but when he got here this AM things went smooth. He called at 0730 to say he would arrive with in an hour and did so.. He and his helper got right to it. Setting up and then prepping the area for the needed repair. Removing the blocks that needed to be removed, cleaning them up for re-install. Prepped and replaced the foundation that was non-existent from a previous repair it looked to be. Re-mortared and replaced our stone veneer. Matching previous mortar to color as close as he could. When the repair was done...the clean up was quick and thorough. We will be talking to Bob in the fall about a new patio to replace the old worn down concrete one. l.

It went very well. Bob came out and gave an estimate. He was very personable and laid back. He didn't try to push anything on you and answered all of our questions. We were quite pleased with his timeframe including the estimate and the finished product. His guys worked professionally and efficiently. I would recommend him to everyone. We loved his old school honesty, care and just all around business practices.
