I agree wholeheartedly with the other one-star reviews. This company is absolutely AWFUL. The inspector missed a long list of problems when we purchased our home, some of which should have been blatantly obvious to anyone who actually cared about doing their job. And don't expect any customer service or accountability on the back-end. Dave Moore is an arrogant jerk and a bully who couldn't care less once he has your money. Pillar-to-Post loves to brag about how they're the most highly recommended inspection company in the area. If that's true, it's only because they're the most REALTOR friendly. OF COURSE realtors prefer the inspector who doesn't find problems that could potentially compromise a deal. But let's be clear, a realtor-friendly inspector is NOT a buyer-friendly inspector. Do yourself a favor: don't trust your realtor when selecting an inspector. And definitely don't go with Pillar to Post.

Description of Work: Do not risk loosing out on having the home owner pay for damages! Avoid Pillar to Post (Mercer County NJ). The inspector missed a very large crack in a floor joist, in an obvious location (next to the stairs). Contacted the BBB and filed a report. Pillar to post replied to the BBB that they felt the damage was non-structural, but said that if we got an inspection by a structural engineer and it proved otherwise that they would repair the damage that they missed. I paid (out of my own pocket) for an independent structural engineer to assess the damage, and he disagreed with the Pillar to Post inspector, and verified that the damage was indeed structural (and specified in the report that the damage was not cosmetic, as Pillar to Post claimed, and indeed structural). However, after the structural engineer's report, the Pillar to Post inspector refused to accept the professional engineer's assessment and refused to repair the damage. I would HIGHLY discourage anyone from using this company. They clearly do not know anything about structural issues, as evidenced by the report for our home inspection had almost entirely cosmetic damage issues reported, but not the very visibly cracked floor joist! They also proved themselves to be dishonest and not following through on their word.

Avoid at all costs. SUPER BAD inspection quality. PERIOD !!! Really poor inspection job that is now going to cost me thousands to repair. 1. Missed obvious signs of roof leakage, conformed by professional roofer. 2. Missed spotting missing shingles on roof. Inspector never went up on roof and performed visual inspection from ground using binoculars 3. Missed signs of water leakage from roof in attic, even though he inspected attic. 4. Missed spotting mildew under the kitchen sink 5. Missed spotting mildew on master bathroom window. 6. Missed a leak under kitchen sink. 7. Missed minor gas leakage on furnace in basement .. I detected it the day I moved in. 8. Mistook cinder block ventilation weep holes in basement for termite protection bores, sending me on a wild goose hunt with seller. When approached owner, rather than owning up to a botched inspection, he kept threatening me that legally the inspection agreement does not hold him accountable for inspection issues. Confrontational attitude, and putting a spin on the issue e.g.- for example, he tried to tell me the roof leak is due to a crack in the vent boots that was identified in the report. The roof leak and the vents are on two totally different planes of the roof, and ignoring the fact about visible water marks. Penny wise pound foolish ... is all I can say. You pay $550 for inspection to catch the stuff that could cost you thousands. Their inspectors are good at identifying the obvious and petty stuff ... bulb not working, flush not draining water properly, etc. As other reviewer said ... owner is RUDE and and a BULLY. Save yourself the aggravation and get quality inspectors. Your home is the most important and expensive purchase you will make. Having quality home inspectors is important to securing your investment. Avoid bulk franchisee operations like Pillar-2-Post and go with some real local pros.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Experience!!!! After 4 MONTHS of waiting for my infra-red report and repeated calls I finally dealt with a Dave Moore (Hamilton, NJ) This man yelled at me, lied to me and tried to BULLY me into signing a release form to get my money back. The lying part was that he told me that they DO NOT make a report then literally seconds later says 'Do you want me to send you the report?" REALLY Mr. Moore? you stated that you do NOT do a report then you ask if I want it sent to me. Then he says the ole "Trust me" Wake up Mr. Moore, trust is earn not automatically given! Lots of yelling at me on phone, told me he emailed me Friday Oct.17, On October 21st still No email and nothing in spam. ANOTHER LIE! He then states "I'll give you a refund IF you sign a media release" (meaning I will NOT give bad reviews) This is BULLYING and ILLEGAL! I immediately contacted the Hamilton Better business Bureau and they CONFIRMED what he said was indeed ILLEGAL. I even gave Mr. Moore 4 more chances to avoid all this and he shut off his phone. (2 calls to his cell which was shut off, a call to his office and a call to his District Manager. EASILY to tell we are NOT dealing with a very sharp business man. He will now have bad reviews on EVERY site I can find, ALL OVER $200 Certainly no rocket scientist here. Also just today October 22nd I receive a voicemail from his district manager saying me wants to send me the report....REALLY? You told me there was NO report. It was also explained to me when I booked the inspection that this man would inspect the ENTIRE property. The property is on an ACRE of land, The man never even went into back yard. BOTTOM LINE: There are many home inspectors, Do yourself a favor and use another service. This man is a LIAR and a BULLY. The termite inspection was performed by another agent and a TOTAL joke. I am a former licensed termite inspector and ALL he did was 'SAY' he looked under the house and saw no mud tunnels. Well there's a zillion places termites can enter your house. No walls were tested. He even went on to tell me stories of houses that he inspected where people literally had walls cave in but he did NOT see any evidence. That's because he is NOT qualified then. If the house inspection is a visible inspection WHY do we pay extra for a Termite visual inspection?? Because they are ripping you off!
Description of Work: Was 'SUPPOSED' to do a FULL property infrared inspection, plus termite and homes inspection.

Response from Pillar To Post Inc
Pillar To Post has been the most reputable and recommended by Mercer County Realtors for over 20 years. We have been proud sponsors of the Top Producers of Mercer County for the past 3 years. Our customer satisfaction rating is over 96%. Mr. (member name removed) deal fell through for reasons unknown to us. Four months after the inspection he contacted our office looking for a refund. We performed the inspection in strict accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code for Home Inspections, therefore the refund was denied. If you are considering a home inspection please visit us on our website @ pillartopost-cnj.com for hundreds of positive reviews from our satisfied clients, Sincerely, Dave Moore

Description of Work: Chris from Pillar to Post arrived before his scheduled time and was already inspecting the house. He went over what he had done and found and then we continued the inspection together. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. Because I bundled three inspections (House, Radon & Termite) the total price was the best of the three inspection companies I checked out.

Everything was laid out for me beforehand. The inspectors were happy to include all areas and concerns that I mentioned, perhaps unnecessarily. The thorough report, in .pdf format with numerous photos, was very useful in negotiating dealing with the sellers' representatives on what work items would be treated as conditions for closing. As a first-time homeowner, I find the report and the additional materials like maintenance checklists useful to have and a nice bonus.
Description of Work: Inspection and radon testing of existing townhouse. Follow-up inspection of work items that had been named as condition for closing following the initial inspection.
