A different company diagnosed it as such and quoted $4500 for a French drain. Lu came from American A-1 and said that he doubted that it was from the water table. After much investigation he discovered that the A/C was leaking. As soon as we turned the A/C off, the flooding stopped completely. We are very grateful to him and the company.
Description of Work: We had recurring water in the basement and were convinced that it was coming up though the floor.

This company redefines professionalism. Bob DeSopo walked me through various alternatives to fix my problem, and quoted two different prices depending on my home's foundation. I ended up paying the lower price. The job started on time and finished on time and the work was done superbly. No more water problems. They even repaired some foundation cracks caused by a tree I have since taken down.
Description of Work: My basement was routinely flooded after heavy rains, destroying anything stored on the floorvand causing a musty smell to permeate my home.

My wife and I were having trouble in our basement, as we were getting a mysterious puddle down there every so often, and we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. We'd had vents replaced, sump pumps replaced, and then had two other basement companies come in to look at the issue. Now, we have french drains down there already, but they were installed before we bought the property. Both of the first two basement companies told us our drainage system was either all wrong or installed improperly, and that we'd have to install a whole new system along one wall for $4k (said the first company) or along all four walls for $14k (said the second company). That didn't seem right to me, particularly as we had a drainage system, but both companies seemed to care more about their sales pitch than addressing the problem. At that point, I signed up for Angie's List (moral of the story, thank you AL) and called American A-1 with my hunch. Jeff came over the next day and was first and foremost a super friendly, extremely knowledgable guy.First, he took a look at our current drainage system and said something the other two hadn't — that, while he would have done one or two things differently, our french drains looked to be installed perfectly fine. So he started poking around other places as I explained what the other two companies had said. He wasn't only shocked at the price, but mortified that somebody would tell us to rip up our basement like that. As a former building inspector, he seemed to really great knowledge set in general (he even gave me some free tips as he was looking around), and eventually came to the conclusion that he thought it was a plumbing issue, most likely something to do with the boilers. Jeff said he wished he could do more, but he wasn't a trained plumber, but said that would be his next phone call. He wished me all the best and left his card. Fast forward a few weeks, and it turns out Jeff was exactly right: a plumber came out and confirmed it was one of the boiler's pressure release systems going off intermittently, and projecting in such a way that it ended up as a puddle far away from it. No basement drain installation necessary. Seriously, I cannot say enough nice things about these guys. Not only did they save us money, but they saved us from having our basement ripped up and not even having the issue resolved. Jeff didn't make me sit down and listen to a half-hour to an hour sales pitch about this, that, and the other thing — he came and did what I wanted the first two companies to do: try and figure out the problem and not assume they knew what it was. While I can't speak to their actual work, I can say that I would recommend American A-1 in a heartbeat. I think it's easy to be cynical about service providers these days — and as my first two basement companies goes to show, you should still be — which is why when you find one of the truly good ones, it's such a revelation. American A-1 truly is one of the good ones. Don't hesitate to call them.

We recently bought a house where the owner said there was no issues with water in the basement aside from Hurricane Irene. After that event, they put in sump pumps to ensure no further events of that sort. Shortly before moving in, we put carpet in the basement. After a massive downpour, we noticed 2 spots in the basement got some water including water pouring out of the concrete block walls. Called multiple companies for quotes. All suggested the same procedure. Expose foundation walls on the inside of the basement. Dig to footers, add drainage that fed to existing sump pumps. Drill small holes in the concrete blocks to prevent water build up in the walls. Seal everything up.. My basement was finished so was difficult to have them demo the finished walls and peel back the new carpet. It was necessary in my mind as i didn't want to worry about water any more. They say their system is guaranteed for life. It's been almost 1 1/2 years since install and we have not had any water issues in the basement at all. The humidity in the basement hovers at 40% also. Company was respectful of our space and time. At my request, they brought a negative HVAC system in to suck out dust created by the demo. They were very easy to deal with and timely with completion. I would recommend.

This provider had great reviews and was very polite and informative on the phone. The price they offered was the most affordable and they offered the longest warranty. My only, and a big, issue is when I ask for proof of insurance they said they would send it over. I not only never received the proof of insurance but I never heard from them again. Even after attempting to call a second time.

I have been dealing with this problem on and off for about 15 years. When it first started, I hired masons who dug out the front area where we located the crack in my poured concrete foundation. Not being waterproofing specialists, they only tarred the area and put black plastic. What is worse, is that they did not dig all the way down to the footing, leaving a gap that eventually allowed water to seep in when there were heavy rains or when the ground was saturated from melting snow. I interviewed 3 other companies to attempt to finally fix the problem. Jeff from American A-1 Waterproofing was the only one who wanted to fix the problem from the source which was the crack in the foundation. So first, his worker Gibson came and removed sheetrock to expose the cracked wall from the inside. He was professional and very neat. Then Jeff came a few days later and we placed running water outside and within minutes we saw water coming through the inside wall from the previously repaired area. (The others were not interested in the old crack; they just wanted to sell me French drains.) I cannot say enough good things about their workers, Loubeth and Raphael. They dug out a large area taking care not to harm plantings or sprinkler heads. They worked long and hard to expose the footing and fix the problem right. They were professional, and went the extra mile to seal minor cracks that were in other areas. When they were done, they refilled the area and left it as if nothing was touched. Two days after the job was completed, it rained all day and there was a hard down pour at night. I checked my basement and to my amazement it is DRY. No puddles, no seepage from hairline cracks...DRY! I am so satisfied with American A-1, and would recommend this company if you are having water problems in your home.

It went okay. It wasn't very useful for me. It didn't result in anything of use. There wasn't anything too interesting that came out of it. I didn't learn anything that I didn't already know. He was a nice guy. He was prompt. I'm neutral. He didn't have anything that was worth paying $50. Anybody else could just have come over to give me a free consultation. The price that they quoted for some work they proposed was reasonable. They gave me two quotes for two different things and one of them was really, really bad.

It went very well. I paid for the service back in the winter, but I requested a delay in the assessment until the weather was warmer and I had some time off from work. Bob was a true professional. He coordinated well in advance and confirmed the visit the day before. He showed up right on time and did what I believe was a thorough assessment, taking measurements and inspecting the basement, both outside and from within. He pointed out issues as well as proposed solutions to the water problem. He used visual aids and made sure he answered my questions. The price he quoted me appeared like a fair price for the scope of the work to be done. I intend to get two other estimates before selecting someone to do the work, but I was impressed with the experience and feel confident that American A-1 would do a good job. They currently have the "inside track."

Overall, it went very well. Among four Angie's list Super-Service Companies, they offered a waterproofing with a gravity drain rather than a sump-pump. The cost to do this was competitive against the other quotes I recieved. They also handled permits. This was important, especially since we had an unexpected problem with one water line. My house was built in 1960, and there was a fragile water line that broke during the project. I really think this was inevitable. The company quickly resolved the problem with a plumber they had available. The cost of this was split by me and the company, but in my opinion, it was done at a very cheap cost of $400 total (in addition to the above). In fact, the plumber was so great, we have used him again. (I would think that had I gotten another company, this problem would not have been handled so efficiently). I am really happy with the final product and the timeline which they completed everything as well. I am surprised at the variation of estimates I recieved from highly rated Angie's list companies. One company said they don't get permits, another offered the same work for $2000 more than the others, and a third offered a vapor barrior option. I knew all companies would do good work, but American A-1 has the most versatility for the project that needs to be done right (they offered a gravity drain since my house was on a hill, and connected it to a sewer in front, thus no extra electric work or sump-pump installation; they also were able to pour concrete on my crawlspace floor). We have not issues of water (or mold smell) for the last 6 months. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: 1. Waterproofing basement and crawlspace and installing a gravity drain (rather than sump-pump). Secondly, also poured a new concrete floor in the crawlspace area.

We were very happy with American A-1 Waterproofing. Bob was very thorough in his inspection and wrote a very clear proposal, highlighting the source of the problem and solution to remediate it once and for all. Once the work started, American A-1 Waterproofing continued to be a pleasure to work with. They took it upon themselves to coordinate with our AC contractor to schedule AC unit removal. The execution was professional and flawless: on scope, on time, and on price. There were no surprise. Since then, we have not had any leakage issue in our basement anymore. American A-1 Waterproofing is highly recommended!
Description of Work: American A-1 Waterproofing first performed a basement inspection for us, investigating the source of water leakage we would experience intermittently after significant rain. This lead to us hiring American A-1 Waterproofing to dig the side of the house to expose the foundation, waterproof problem side, repair and install new footing drains to the back of our property, and re-grade that side of the house.

Had Jeff DelVecchio from A-1 come take a look at our house to give us a quote. Took in all the measurements and said he'd get back to me with pricing and information. Been emailing him and it's been two weeks and still haven't heard back (doubt i'll hear back anytime soon). Also, asked for masonry and sidewalk work, he gave me another contact who he recommended who does side jobs named Carlos (who also happens to work for A-1 Waterproofing!). Something sounded really fishy about that. I talked to Carlos from A-1 about the job that need to be done. He said he'd give me a quote and never heard back from him again either. UPDATE: FINALLY heard back from Jeff. Haven't heard back from Carlos yet though. Judging from the responsiveness and professionalism of this place, doubt i'll ask them to do our place.

The crew carried on the same professionalism that Jeff had demonstrated. The foreman and the rest of the crew were very neat, organized and considerate of my property. I felt at ease asking them questions I had before and during the process. The first thing they did was put up a plastic tarp to section off the area they were working in. They worked herd for 3 days, the final result was clean and neat, no surprises. The week the crew came to work was probably the coldest week in 2014. I cannot say enough about the staff and American A-1 company. I've had quotes from a famous company that was featured on a investigative TV show, he only wanted to do the entire basement (install drain around entire perimeter), regardless if I needed it or not. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, dependable, and reputable basement waterproofing contractors, just call Jeff at A-1 and stop looking! You won't be disappointed.
Description of Work: The main reason I had signed up with Angie's list was to find a dependable basement waterproofing contractor. It seems like a difficult task, as I've had estimates from 4-5 companies in the past. They all came across like used car salesman, sleazy and full of BS. All they want to do is sell you a (overpriced) waterproofing system regardless of you need it or not. I've done a lot of reading on basement water issues. Most issues are due to grading. All the contractors I contacted didn't care about the outside and often didn't look. Jeff D of American A-1 seemed honest and thorough in his estimate. He looked outside to check gutters and grading (I didn't ask). Jeff provided, what I thought, to be a very fairly priced estimate. I had a French drain installed from the front wall of my house, down the side to tie in with an existing builder installed system. He also suggested other options which I didn't consider such as tying in my window well with the waterproofing system so I wouldn't have to worry about that flooding as well as a gravity feed drain (no sump pump).

At the time of purchase, customer was contacted for an appointment date but he indicated that he was not ready for the service and would call when ready. Customer never called our company back to schedule an appointment; however, he discovered on his own that he had a downspout issue. Upon reading this review, customer was contacted and was reminded that he never followed through with our company. Since he discovered the underlying issue for his basement, the service was not needed. He was instructed to contact Angie's List to receive a refund. The problem has since been resolved.
