I contacted several contractors from Angie’s List to provide me with a quote for a finished basement. After vetting the potential contractors, I decided on Hummel Construction. I chose Curt Hummel because I was impressed with his knowledge of the specific work needed to be done and he brought his electrician with him to further vet the required work. That impressed me as this helped to ensure an accurate quote. Curt’s expertise and professionalism was evident from day one. When I questioned him on doing a drop ceiling instead of Sheetrock and told him that the other quotes that I received were competitive, he gave me the options and respected my decision if I chose to use a competitor. This impressed me as I knew he wasn’t trying to fast-talk me into something I wasn’t comfortable with doing. I originally was going to have the ceiling painted which would require part of the gas line to be relocated as well as a water line. I also initially asked him to include flooring in the price of the job. We initially discussed this over the phone. When I ultimately decided on using drywall for the ceiling, as well excluding the flooring, Curt appropriately provided the correct charge for making the changes. He did not try to overcharge me and stuck to exactly what we’d discussed over phone. At this point I knew I was dealing with not only a professional but also an honest man. Curt kept me informed every step of the way. He worked with the township and union tradesmen for a professional job with every step. He told me the exact date and time frame for each milestone. Curt even patiently answered my crazy text messages with all sorts’ of scenario questions like “but what if this or that goes wrong.” He understood my renovation anxiety and didn’t make me feel like a crazy woman. Early on, Curt even helped me with some design challenges. I was struggling over choosing carpet or tile for the floor when Curt so calmly said, “Why don’t you use both?” I looked at him with the idea light bulb lit over his head while my idea light bulb was unlit. It was such a simple solution to use the tile in the area where my kids would play and carpet in the other. I was kind of embarrassed that I hadn’t thought of it, yet thankful to have Curt as my contractor. We even joked about some of the HGTV shows that I religiously watch. He actually knew about those shows too! To show how in touch Curt was to my needs, he helped us in things not related to what I’d hired him to do. He saved us $200 on a garbage disposal by fixing the one that we thought was broken. It was a simple 2-minute fix that I didn’t know existed. He even provided me with Molly bolts when he saw my toilet paper holder loose. That was a simple fix also. Not to mention his son was kind enough to assist us with a small task. I guess it runs in the family. Needless to say, Curt came in on budget and on time. He is a true professional in every sense of the word. I’m glad my gut told me to use him for my renovation project and I’m glad I followed my instinct. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed or regret using Hummel Construction. If I need anything else done, I know exactly who to contact.

Great! the quality of the work was great from electrician work, wall framing, drywall and spackling. we added a room to our basement and replaced drop ceiling tiles with drywall ceiling and recessed lighting. the work is top quality. What I appreciated the most about these guys is communication. We have had work done before where we could not get in touch with the contractor for days! This was such a great experience. Were very punctual with the time they said they would start and finish. Kept the area clean after each days work. Already asking for quotes for future projects. would definitely recommend.

The experience was very good. Curtis was professional and didn't force me to spend more money than necessary. He was very helpful in selecting materials and was very quick to give me credit/money back when I personally purchased items. We are already planning out the next bathroom.

After discussing the project the contractor was able to meet our budget needs. The bathroom was demo'd within 3 days. The contractor stayed on schedule throughout the entire project. He kept us informed each day of how the project was progressing. The shower pan was installed, followed by tiling of floors and shower walls. Light fixtures, baseboard heaters, shower fixture, glass slider, and 2 new barn doors were installed. Two new toilets were also installed. The entire project as completed right on schedule. We were very pleased with the new remodeled bathroom!

Project was amazing. First off, they made the whole process of a kitchen renovation while living in the home as smooth and painless as possible. Anyone who has lived through this type of project can tell you there are always surprises and the time frame is very rarely what they tell you. Well, not in this case. A small number of surprises popped up which were completely because of the appliances I chose, and there was no issues in handling these changes I created. And timing...talk about under promise and OVER deliver. This renovation, major renovation, from start to finish was less than 5 weeks. This is unheard of for what we had done! Curt and his team of specialist worked around the clock, some days till way past the end of the business day, to make sure everything was done right so that the next days work could go as planned. And we passed inspections each and every time with flying colors. Here is what we had done in during this period of time: -Complete kitchen renovation- not just cosmetics, the whole design and layout was altered. This involved new cabinets, granite, plumbing, electrical, exterior and interior doors, wall removals, and more -Entry way renovation, included removing a load bearing wall -Removal of 2 more load bearing walls, creating an open floor plan in what was a very choppy older home -Powder room- complete renovation cosmetically -Laundry room- layout and renovation changes, including creating a new wall to allow for a large walk in pantry, as well as relocating all the mechanics of the room which was not an easy task given the structural design of my home -Structural securing- structural safety and security was added to the basement ceiling/kitchen flooring to engineer and support the extra weight and structure of the new layout So when reading this list you must appreciate the amount of work that was done in such a short period of time...and remember there was a good amount of time that was just part of the demoing of the original structure. Therefore, this is an absurd amount of work that was done. And the professionals involved were just that, professional. I have 3 young children, and everyone was respectful of their actions during the project to ensure the safety of my children. Everything they did they were considerate of how it would affect our family and took extra measures to make sure it was done to the best for us, not necessarily what was easiest to them. For example, you had a project that involved tools set up in the kitchen that would be used first thing the next day. They could have easily left those tools out overnight as the kitchen was not in use nor were they in our way. However, they took the extra time to clean up and make sure that everything potentially dangerous was out of harms way of little hands even knowing full well I was not letting the kids in that room anyways. Also, its important to note how trustworthy this group is. They are some of the most upstanding contractors I have come across and had the pleasure to work with. I was completely comfortable leaving them in my home while I went about my business and kept my kids out of their hair. You do not have to "babysit" this group so to speak, they stay on task and respect your home as if it was their own. Nothing but class across the boards in every way possible. Another thing that is worth mentioning is that we had a project going on with installing a new HVAC system. AM Botte will most likely agree with me and my observations, that Hummel Construction is extremely easy to work with and can be flexible and understanding to other contractors. Often you might see in this business a butting of heads or egos of whose role is more important, but not with Hummel Construction. Not even the least bit. There was so much potential for something to go wrong in the process and it didn't....or if it did we didn't know about it which is just as good. So I would highly recommend this contractor, besides the home of our dreams we walked away with great friends. And I am in a business, real estate, that I come across many construction professionals. I am also in a business to say I know your reputation is all you have at times. And with that, I can comfortably say that I would associate my name and reputation to give a recommendation to this company, that is how much respect I have for their work.

It was perfect! We had it done before we moved in, so time was of the essence to be complete so we could move in and have a functioning bathroom. He stuck to the timeline and even finished a day or two earlier. The dumpster was here on time so demo was completed without an issue, the cabinets were ordered in plenty of time so there was no hold up, and if there was bump in the road he took care of it without worrying us with everything. On a personal note, during the time we needed to order everything to ensure it was here on time, we were stuck in the hospital with our newborn child for a month. He went the extra mile to drop off samples at our home so that my husband could bring them to me at the hospital to decide. And even better, he basically recreated the overpriced Pottery Barn bath I loved within our budget. Couldn't be happier with the final result!oo

Hummel construction was extremely professional on every level, and the professionals he works with (drywall and electrician in our case) were as well. Everyone is trustworthy and knowledgeable to their specialty. Everything Curt said he was going to do, he completed, and in a timely manner. There were no surprises in cost and any bump in the road he made right. Prime example, the cabinets coming in were running slightly behind, but in the write up Curt took this possibility into consideration so there was no concerns to us, and he moved on and worked on other things while waiting for the cabinets. Our kitchen was still complete by the promised date and it looks amazing! We couldn't be happier with every aspect of the company and their work! And though we picked out most of the details (tile, colors, etc), looking back I would have been comfortable giving Curt complete design control too. Every suggestion he made really turned out gorgeous and clearly he knows what looks best. In fact, the trim on my tile work I picked out he suggested something else. I stuck to my guns about the one I wanted...two days later he was removing my choice per our request and putting his in because he was right, what he thought was the better option definitely was. My suggestion, don't hesitate to take and ask for his design advice, more than likely his professional opinion will be better than the consumers. And the relationship you build with the team is amazing, its a family affair, and by the time they are done in your home it will feel like they are part of your family. Our daughter continued asking for Curt and Karen for weeks even after they were complete. I have no regrets using this company for our kitchen, I loved everything about the process and the end result was exactly what we hoped for. And in my line of work its really hard to find people you would recommend to your clients, not only for their quality of work but being to trust them. Hummel Construction is one of those companies you can trust and you will be satisfied with the end product.

I called up and left a message, he returned my call the next day and we made an appointment. He came to my house and he was on time and he looked very professional. He was extremely pleasant and he seems to be very knowledgable about the job and what I wanted to be done. But the estimate was way out of my range. If I could afford to hire him, I am sure he would have done an excellent job.

When I decided to have my basement finished I thougt finding a contractor was going to be a challenge. I work full time so ideally I was looked for someone trustworthy enough to give access to my house, while I was at work. I also wanted to find someone reliable and experienced. When I met with Hummel Construction Services I knew immediately I was dealing with a professional company that I could trust. During our first meeting Curt spent time discussing the project with me to insure he understood my expectations. He returned for a second visit with drawings which allowed me to get a better visual understanding of how exactly the room would be layed out. As the job began, I immediately noticed Curt's attention to detail. Everything was meticulously done. Even at the end of each day, the work area was cleaned up and neatly organized. Curt showed up on time when expected and had the entire job completed within the timeframe promised. I would definitely recommend Hummel Construction Services, LLC for any home remodeling job you may have. You will not be disappointed!
