John tends to reply to negative reviews with rants that rationalize his point of view, take this as your first indication to stay away. I wanted to keep this review short however as you have seen with other negative reviews, the experience with John is so painful that you simply need to vent! John had so many good reviews on Angie's list that I thought hiring him was a no brainer. However I think John is one of those contractors who can only handle small jobs that can be completed in a few hours and require minimal skill set. The negative reviews tend to be recent and revolve around larger projects. I think the negative reviews are more recent because John seems to have a substance abuse problem that may have started recently but who knows. Whatever the official problem is, it makes him unreliable, unaware of time and unable to produce quality work. I hired John to redo a small bathroom that was completely botched by a prior contractor. So me being the genius that I am I tried to hire someone else who also seemed like a great deal. In my defense John does initially come off as competent and knowledgeable, just **quirky** and passionate about tile. But sadly ALL the negative comments in the few other recent reviews are accurate as I will explain. The job started off great and my confidence was high as John and I laughed about all the bad workmanship of the previous contractor and how none of these issues would happen with him. After a good first day an immediate time management problem began. John was no longer able to arrive on time (2:30 pm seemed like his favorite arrival time.) and would typically stay at my house way too late, creating many uncomfortable situations (The arguments with my wife typically started around 9:00 pm regarding when he would be leaving). Regarding workmanship, John was unable to cut tile straight, unable to install tile level, left random jagged cuts on the tile, left me with a shower drain full of cement, floor vent full of cement, floor tile stained with so much grout that acid remover could not even remove it. John also left me with a nightmare regarding plumbing and electrical components that he initially said he was capable of taking care of. I simply don't have the energy to get into additional workmanship details (There are more, such as ceiling leaking.) other than to say the other reviews that are posted recently are 100% accurate. Now, if "I" was reading this review, "I" would ask myself, "why did this homeowner allow the situation to get so out of control?" Well, like I said earlier, John initially comes off as competent and has a way of convincing you that he knows what he's doing but simply has his own rhythm and way of doing things. And his explanations do provide some reassurance, albeit short lived. However, by the time you realize there really is a problem with John and the way the project is going you are too far down the rabbit-hole to stop. Instead, you find yourself simply praying that John will somehow complete the job correctly just at his own pace. However, once John starts to feel the discomfort of you questioning him he pulls a tactic that I suspect is very common for him. It is at this point that John will demand to be paid in full for what he has done so far (Labor and materials.) so he can walk off the job fully compensated if he becomes frustrated with you and your concerns. Once this happens you find yourself in a situation where you're scared to agitate him so you continue to make compromise after compromise with how the job is going until you finally pray for him to leave and deal with whatever disaster he has left you. Stay away from John. He caused me so much stress and anguish that I did not even have the guts to write this review until after I sold my house and relocated out of fear of retaliation.

[Member Name Removed] is an old friend who fell onto hard times and I wish him the best. He was, and still is as far as I'm concerned, a good hearted guy and I have nothing negative to save about him. I just wish he gets the help he needs and I wish him the best of luck with his marriage. All I can say is it is hard doing jobs for close friends and family, especially not knowing what influences have entered their lives. [Member Name Removed] I do NOT owe you money and please get the help you need! My door is always open if you need help.

In our search for a contractor to install the tiles in our kitchen, we researched vendors on Angieslist.com. As a result of the search on your site, we were contacted by John Patrick robert from Mud and Tile installations via phone almost immediately. We advised him of our interest to install a mosaic tile backsplash in our kitchen. He provided a link to his previous work to show his experience. We negotiated over phone call and text and agreed to $500 for the installation of the tile, plus any supplies he needed as we already had the tile. We also asked him if he could replace the vanity in our half bath and he charged $300 for the installation and for a backsplash. After taxes the total was $895. He advised the work would take 1.5 - 2 days total and required $300 down payment. We made the initial payment of $300 on February 15th 2022 and work was scheduled to begin on February 22nd. He promised to pick up the vanity we had ordered to the Home Depot closest to him and other supplies on February 21st. On Feb 22nd, he was due to arrive at 9am but did not show up for several hours and ultimately did not show up that day, but we agreed to start the following day. On Feb 23rd he arrived and was advised that shoes were not allowed in our home and the entire time he was here, he had to be reminded over and over again. That first day he started the work and got a small portion of the work completed and promised to continue the following day. While he was here he put a towel over one of the cameras we have in our home. My husband noticed that and spoke with him about it and he explained that "he did not like cameras". He was advised that EVERY room in our home is equipped with a camera and that they will not be turned off under any circumstances. Since that day he continued to complain about the camera via text message over and over again. On Feb 24th he did not show up and blamed it on having a flat tire. We advised him that Fridays to Monday are not good days for us to have any work done. We agreed to continue at 9am on March 1st, but again did not show. On March 2nd we agreed to 9am but he did not show up till 12:30PM and had not completed the work and promised to come back on March 3rd at 9am. He did not show up till 2PM and again did not complete the work. At the end of that day he demanded a payment tof $500 for the work he had done up to that point. We made that payment to him via Zelle. To get the work complete, even though we had weekend plans, we agreed to cancel our plans on March 4th with a guarantee that the work would be completed if he was able to arrive as early as 7am. He was supposed to start working at 6am, but he did not arrive till 2:30PM and did complete the work that day even though he was here till 11PM and left as always without notifying anyone. He messaged us the following day and advised that he will complete the work on March 8th and that he would arrive at 9am. He did not show up that morning and messaged us at 11am indicating that we had to make payment for the supplies up to that point before he would show up. We made a payment in the amount of $153.49 via Zelle but he provided another excuse shortly after and did not show up and promised to complete the job on March 9th. Same occured on March 9th, at which point we were fed up as a two day job had gone on for 3 weeks at this point due to his lack of consistency, lack of professionalism and shoddy work. On March 10th he messaged us demanding that we turn off all the camera's, allowing him to wear his shoes in the house along with other demands and we advised that was unacceptable to us. He left the kitchen floors, and counters dirty with all this supplies all over the place every time he left even though he sometimes was not to return for days. We have since hired another contractor to complete the work which will require that the end trim he installed be removed, the edges of the tiles be redone, and completely redo the tile work he did in the bathroom. We have had to hire an electrician to repair the damage he did to the electric switches and plumber to redo the plumbing connection he did after installing the new vanity. Which in total will cost at least an additional $750 - $1,000. We seeked the services of professionals from Angie's list as it is supposed to be a hub for finding vetted, licensed and insured professionals, and to say we are highly disappointed and frustrated, and by our experience with this professional is the understatement of the century. If Angie's list recommends professionals, it is your responsibility to ensure these professionals are of the highest caliber, have integrity and deliver on the work they have contracted to complete.
Description of Work: He installed the backsplash and did not finish it the borders are still not done please refer to the pictures provide in our email. He started the bathroom and not finish it he left the bathroom a mess with 4 different leaks from the faucet we had to hire a plumber to come finish his work. He never returned to finish the work and left us stranded.

Broke Contract 1st day All Labor and material agreemtns were signed and verbally agreed upon on the work order slip, contractor agreement, text conversation and expressed verbally twice and and transcribed in recording... for Mrs. Tatty to supply a bag of grout, tile, an extra bag of thinser, sealer, additive, and any transition strips were in the specs and signed contract needed to complete the project. She supplied most of the tile, an expired bag of mouse dropping coated thinset from the shelf in her garage, no end caps or transition strips, inadequate availability to complete the job, a and tried to extort me using Angie's policies wanting a freebie, but I felt bad for her lack of knowledge of how construction works overlooked her criminal strong-arm attempt. I knew it would affect my business relationship with Angie's list in the long run and she knew this by posting a negative review and stated in so many words 'I'm putting it back up if I don't get a full refund .' in a group email to me and my account manager at Angie's. The damages she speaking of is a valve that needed to be installed in her bathroom which I was not qualified to install and did not charge her for, and a light fixture that had a short circuit because of improper war mounting on the study that had shaking it loose and shortned its lifespan but its not my blame to accept. I was half a day away from finishing . But because she didn't like the end caps she insisted i would have to pick up for her because she was too busy watching me on the cameras she had pointed at me in kitchen, she was unable to drive. I let her keep $192 and i truly wish her nothing but the best in the future.

Very well. Very satisfied indeed. He was patient with us, had good ideas and suggestions, kept prices very reasonable. When difficulties came up he kept at it, found solutions and fixed the problem. He has his own rhythm and timing needing some flexibility which worked for us, no problem, suited us fine. Definitely to be trusted.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY We hired John Roberts to tile our laundry room floor and it was a nightmare. He told us this was a one day job, which he would start between 8 and 9 am. He showed up at 2:30 pm, without the necessary supplies. He left our home around 7 pm that night to go pick up the threshold and grout. Next thing we knew he text us from Home Depot telling us he couldn’t get the threshold because the store wouldn’t take his credit, so we would need to come to the store to buy it, or he could come back to install it. He returned from Home Depot and finished grouting, not leaving our home until 10 pm. While installing the tile, he broke a tile, and would have to replace it when he returned to do the threshold. John told us he would return at 8:30 am on the agreed upon day to replace the tile and install the threshold. He showed up at 1:45 pm, after many text messages of excuses ranging from oversleeping, car trouble, marital issues, and even a Wawa stop. Before he arrived we asked him how long it would take, to which he responded an hour. We asked him to be finished by 3 pm as we did not want him in our home until 10 pm again. Once he finished the tile and threshold, he told us he could not hook the dryer back up due to the wet tile and would need to return the next day, however wanted to be paid. He left our home and proceeded to text us dozens of times, and send profanity filled voice messages. I called to tell him the amount of money I would be sending to him considering the job was not completed. He responded with a profanity laced rant which ended in him telling me to F*CK OFF, then hanging up on me. John is very unprofessional and has no time management skills. He’s financially reckless with a complete disregard for others property or time. Steer clear of this con man.

I could have done better I'll admit. But please accomodate your contractor and it helps to introduce yourself for a solid working relationship. I t seems I lost interest the moment she asked for a discount and dangled more jobs through her realtor connections when asking to replace her dryer vent hose which was an inch too short after the tile floor installation. It was hard enough finding work for contractors mid covid and a cheap move in my opinion considering i accepted under her assumption alone it would be done in the same time frame. tile needs time to dry sometimes. so does grout. i appologize for not finishing in your time frame but i dont take back what i said. Oddly, I have never met this woman but I'm assuming that this is her husband by punching his name in Facebook. Have a nice day and please consider me for future jobs. https://photos.app.goo.gl/CMSN3Ac1nGpbZ5R79

John has done a nice job retiling our powder room. As others have mentioned he is very busy but will work as long as needed to get the job done right (our 45sq/ft job ended up being a bit more involved once old tile was removed). Will upload photos once grout is sealed and buffed in a couple days.

I'm a big believer in shopping local and using local contractors whenever possible. So I was thrilled to find a guy with an A rating and 125 mostly excellent reviews who lived five minutes away! I'm so happy with the job John did cleaning, re-grouting, and sealing our shower floor--it looks brand new! He also replaced a well-worn drain cover at the completion of the project. He was hard to pin down to start the job--but usually that's what happens when people are good at what they do and their services are in demand! The price was fair, and the work was completed in less than a day! I'd use him again for tile work and recommend his services to others.

I was told about John's work by a close friend who raved about him and I'm really grateful for the referral. John is a really solid, honest, and decent guy who knows how to do really good work. Our backsplash came out really beautifully. He clearly has a lot of experience. Also, in terms of professionalism, he was very good with communicating, kept a clean area and will give his opinion on different things for the best outcome for our home. He also went above and beyond and did some extra caulking that wasn't necessary and also left leftover sealer for me free of charge. I am really happy about our experience. A+++!!!

This is the second time we've hired John. He's responsive, punctual and very easy to work with. He cleans the work area daily and his work is impeccable. Before installation of the brick, he had to remove a Corian backsplash. This was his first brick backsplash and we couldn't be happier. In terms of cost, I couldn't tell you if he's high, low or average because he's' the only person I called. Also, the first time we hired him, about 4 years ago, he installed a porcelain tile floor which garners compliments all the time.

He covered my floors and was so quiet I did not even know he was there. He cleaned up everything that you could not even tell he was there. I highly recommend this company to everyone! John was fantastic, from the original quote through to the completion of the project. He listened to our wishes and also had some great suggestions. He always arrived on time, was very conscientious, did great work and was very clean and neat. We previously had another bathroom floor replaced by another contractor - no comparison. John did better work for ⅓ of the other job's price. We recommend him highly and would certainly hire him again if we ever need more tiling work done.
