Description of Work: I called Duct Mate on May 28th after reading the wonderful reviews on Angies List. May 28th was one of the hottest days this season . My central air was only blowing hot air to my dismay. Upon calling Duct Mate I was told that Saturday was a busy day but that they would not leave me stranded on a brutally hot day with no air conditioning. True to their word, Joe Tasca took the time to fit me into his busy schedule and showed up. After checking the compressor, he explained to me that the reversing valve was in heat mode and that a new relay switch would have to be ordered. He made some adjustments to the compressor so that I did finally get cool air. He did tell me that the adjustment would only allow for cool air( no heat) but that his priority was for me to have air conditioning on such a hot day. He said he would have to call the manufacturer (York) to order a new part to permanently correct the problem.

Dan also came out as a courtesy when someone in my household shut off the main switch by accident.. I would definitely use this company again..

+ -1 moreI solicited 3 bids before selecting Duct Mate. In terms of product, all 3 made similar recommendations. In terms of pricing, Duct Mate was slightly higer but had a better warranty on labor ( 2 years where most are 1). The estimate was the most straightforward: no attempt to "hard-sell" or dazzle me with a slick presentation.They arrived on-time and competed the work when promised.They took care of the paperwork for the permits and rebates,providing me with a complete folder containing copies of everything when done. The couple of times I called about issues they responded quickly. My home was left spotless with no extra clean-up on my part. After the first winter with the system I don't know if I am saving tons of money like one hears about with the new systems, but my home is definitely more comfortable in terms of temperature and I would definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreI agreed and they called back, said they had found lesser expensive parts that were good quality and we could do it for $400. I agreed, they did the work and all is OK. Note that they could have put in the cheaper parts and still charged me the $600 and I would not have known the difference so this testifies to their honesty and professionalism. Very pleased.
Description of Work: My heat stopped working so I called Duct Mate. Quickly responded, came to the house within an hour. Diagnosed the problem and gave a quote of $600.

+ -1 moreMr. Tasca was very professional from the intial visit and on to resolving any inspection issues towards the end. They did a good clean up job which included proper removal of the old furnace. The brand they recommended is of good quality suitable to my existing steam radiators. It's been about six months and I'm happy with the performance of the furnace to date.
Description of Work: We converted to using gas and had to replace our oil furnace. We checked around 5 contractors and selected Duct Mate to replace our furnace with a gas-powered steam furnace. We went with Duct Mate for its good balance of price, quality, and professionalism.

I called on a Saturday outside of office hours and received a call back that day to discuss the scope of work I was interested in. Joe was over to the house a couple of days later to survey the job, and Brian emailed me a detailed quote thereafter for two separate units (lower price, standard efficiency vs. higher-priced, high-efficiency) along with itemized options (e.g. humidifier, new thermostat, etc.). I spoke with Brian and he reviewed the quote with me in detail explaining the differences between the units listed along with the information concerning currently available tax credits for the higher-efficiency models. Brian and Pat also explained the payment options available, such as a financing option through Rheem/GE Capital. My budget didn't allow me to go with the options I would have liked, but the Duct Mate team was very receptive and really worked with me on the budget. Once I inked the contract, Joe and his installers set up three visits (first to remove the old unit, second to install the furnace/heat, and third to install the AC and finalize the job) and were punctual, clean, and focused throughout. I truly feel that Duct Mate provided the value they promised and in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend the Duct Mate team.

Dan arrived on a timely basis and promptly started to check the unit on the outside of the house and then did the same inside. As I stated above, Dan did a thorough and complete job and I will definitely use Duct Mate to service our air conditioning unit in the future.
Description of Work: Dan from Duct Mate thoroughly checked the central air-conditioning system inside the house and the unit outside. Luxair A/C unit is 30 years old. He flushed the condensate line. Air handler-inspected blower wheel & 24 volt wiring. He checked the air temperatures at the supply ducts. At the outside condensor, he replaced the 24 volt contactor, checked refrigerant levels, the amp draw at compressor and blower motors, and checked line voltage. He cleaned the outside unit thoroughly.

I made a great choice by becoming an angies list member. all the reviews on duct mate were truthful. thanks to everyone i will enjoy a comfortable summer in my home. I would recommend this company to anyone who who is experiencing any type of problem with their air conditioning system. you will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: I have two central air units,one for each side of our ranch home.Both units are about 10 years old but I have them serviced each year. My initial installer had left the area and for the past three years I have been having trouble with the proper airflow on one of the systems. i chose another local service provider and when he came I would explain my problem to him and he would make the motions of checking the machine on the outside of the house but he claimed that everthing was working properly and there was no need to go into the attic. he changed the inside filter and said that he cleaned the machine and $300.00 later we had no satisfaction. this year I decided to try angies list. I joined and they walked me through and expained the companies that offered discounts but most of all I was to read the reviews. I found a company,duct mate. I read the reviews and i was impressed so I called last thursday. I spoke to the receptionist, pat, and I explained my dilemma. she asked some simple questions to clarify the problem and immediately made an appointment for the followig wednesday. I asked them to come early. the serviceman arrived at 8:30 a.m. patty had explained the airflow problem to him. the serviceman went to the outside machine, checked inside the machine and then climbed into the attic. Within 10 minutes this man had diagnosed a problem in the machine and was not surprised to find the machine in the attic frozen like a block of ice. He turned the fan on to melt the ice because it could not continue until the ice was melted on the machine in the attic. It took some time,possibly one hour or more but then he began the repair and the testing of all the parts. freon was also needed. A major component had rusted completely shut preventing the machine from working properly and causing the machine in my attic to freeze up and prevent the flow of air through the ducts. the service man feels that ,considering the rust that was on the effected parts, this situation did not just come about this season.My machine was running constantly ,but not cooling.I was wasting electricity because the machine was unable to do it's job due to the faulty patrs that apparently went undetected for such a long time. Unfortunately ,you do not always get what you pay for and I am the proof of that phrase.

+ 0 moreThe work went well the second time. There was a slight problem with the end result since we didn?t like the job that the technician had done. It looked floppy. The owner came out himself and agreed with us that it wasn?t done correctly. So he came the next day to fix the problem and the work went well. It was a minor job, but we had to hold up the work until it got resolved. However, the owner took care of it himself. They were a little pricey. Their punctuality was fine and I didn?t have any problems with it.
Description of Work: We first used the services of Duct Mate in August since our air conditioner system broke down. We used their services again in November for some duct work when we were having renovation work done.

Duct Mate suggested a split-level system with a medium sized furnace in the basement and small furnace in the attic, eliminating the cost and construction of sending ducts through the middle of the house. My formerly drafty house is now nice and cozy. Great work.

+ -1 moreThe guy who did the balancing was very nice. Very professional, on time and he hustled to get all of the vents to output the correct amount of air. We discovered that there was a missing piece to our duct work that was rather important so he took some info with him so they could fabricate the piece for us. A few weeks later, nothing. We called a couple of times trying to schedule the installation and finally got a date. The repairman was very, very late and no phone call. Personally, I don't like calling the company when they are late and don't contact us to tell us about it. I simply stop doing business with them. He finally called a few hours after he was supposed to be here and he said that he was on his way. In the end, I decided that I we really needed the piece installed so I sucked it up and let him come. He installed the piece quickly and hustled out without turning the system on and checking that everything worked ok and that the piece was doing its job. Overall, I would call it "a tale of two visits". Had we stopped at the first visit, all things would be great but the second one soured our experience. Overall, it was not bad enough to not use them in the future. After all, things happen. However, I think if we do use them again, we will be on full guard for a situation like this arising again.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience was excellent from start to finish.When i placed my initial call, i got hold of Brian right away and was given the choice of when they could come in at my convenience. On the day of the appointment, Brian called to reconfirm and told me that Dan, one of his specialist would be on his way shortly. Moments later, Dan called to say he was on his way. Dan's initial diagnosis about the root cause of the problem was right on target. He pointed out that the blower was the problem. Instead of replacing it completely, he unmounted it from unit, fix it and reattached it again. He was very technical and was able to explain to me how the unit is supposed to function. He really knows his craft! He then proceeded to do the maintenance on the three units and gave me advise on how to clean the filters on the unit. I would definetely recommend these guys - their punctuality and professionalism are spotless.
Description of Work: Called for a service on one of my heating unit's burner/igniter(we have three zones) which was non-functioning. Also inquired about routine checkup on the three heating zones.
