Background info: Brought several lamps to shop for repair 4/30/19 & owner (Bryan) wanted to be paid in full for $2500 that day. At same time, picked out 1 lampshade (already pre-made, NOT custom for me), 2 finials, total $230. Said he had to close early so was in a hurry. Didn't know if he was overcharging &felt rushed but I paid him. Said work would take 8-10 wks b/c he had 'so much work ahead of mine he had to finish 1st." The next morning I called explaining I needed to retrieve 2 of the lamps b/c it was more than what I could afford & didn't have enough time the previous day to think before purchase, so was on my way(he knew would take 45 mins to get there). He stated, "oh, I already started working on those 2 lamps & in fact, I got here 6 AM just to get started on them." So, I get to his shop & lying on the floor before me are my 2lamps all spread out in pieces w/ some small polish marks to show something had been started. So, would I have to pay him for the 2lamps I didn't want worked on? So convenient for him to justify I now owe him money for 'already fixing' my lamps, right? He actually had enough time,45 min to make it look like he started the work, right? So I began to question him why he started working on them since he 'had so many other customer lamps to work on that it would take mine 10-13wks to complete.' After arguing w/ me he said he would give me $630 back (already charged @$900 to fix). I didn't think this fair but he became hostile & yelled for me to go & not call him as he would call me when they were ready. I left & was afraid to take rest of my lamps home & didn't want to jeopardize remaining lamps needing repair thinking he might do a poor job. FACTS: Merchant lied to my credit card company that I took home merchandise(1 lampshade, 2 finials, total $207) which I NEVER did! He knows these items were kept at his shop until I picked up my repaired lamps (BTW which were over 5wks past the time he said they would be ready). What really happened is that on the day I picked up my lamps, he tried to put the lamp shade/2 finials in my car but I immediately followed behind him taking the items back to his shop. I said "I don't want these b/c I feel like your business practices are dishonest but didn't want to let you know until I picked up my lamps. I tried to give him my credit card to refund my card but he raised his hand & yelled: "just get out of my shop!" Was afraid of his anger, left and phoned credit card company to tell them he refused to give back my money & filed the dispute for the refund (along w/ another $200 refund for an estimate of the under-refunded amt. of money he kept in the beginning when he gave me only $630 for the 2 lamps I didn't want worked on. Again, owner wrote credit card company stating I actually took home the 1 lampshade & 2 finials ($207) which I DID NOT. Update Jan 20, 2020: Dispute I made w/ credit card company decided merchant would keep the money ONLY b/c I did not meet the deadline for faxing my response back in time (they gave me 10 days). I believe owner committed FRAUD w/ my credit card! Even though merchant got away w/ stealing my hard-earned $407, I am pursuing further options to rectify this situation in order to retrieve my money. It's the principle of the matter rather than the amt. of money involved. Thus, besides suing him in small claims court in a few weeks, I'm also filing complaints with the following: 1) Consumer Protection Agency 2) Better Business Bureau 3) Consumer Federal Trade Commission 4) The Fair Credit Billing Act 5) The Local Attorney General's Office If anyone else feels Shades of Soho has also been dishonest and taken your money, you might want to utilize these agencies. I was advised by my attorney friend. I'm confident that whatever response he writes to my comment will be for the purpose of making me look at fault or lying, but I KNOW what really happened. So, any future customers..........BEWARE, AND TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Nobody deserves to be treated fraudently AND hostility--ever. LASTEST UPDATE: Owner (Bryan) responded to the review of his company on google and continued to lie stating that I lost the case b/c "I lied to the credit card company" and therefore he was awarded the money. Again, this is pure dishonesty and continued false statements and I am currently pursuing getting my money back. ATTENTION ANY FUTURE CUSTOMERS: TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE & DON'T DEAL W/ THIS BUSINESS. SAVE YOURSELF THE ANGUISH OF HIS HOSTILITY I EXPERIENCED AND DISHONESTY.
