Horrible service by Anthony Shupenko! He is unprofessional, arrogant and egoistic. He cancelled the inspection literally 2 days before the set date for NO valid reason. His prices were too high too but i was ready to pay them coz I thought I'll get quality service but he was a disaster to work with! He confused me with someone else and conveniently forgot the phone conversations. Even basic checks are excluded from his inspection so I wonder what is he charging so highly for. His good reviews are either FAKE or really old coz the service I received was horrible!

We regret that you feel this way - below is a copy of the email respectfully sent to you withdrawing from consideration to provide you with these services: "At this point, we must respectively withdraw from consideration on providing this service since we do not appear to be the best fit to meet your needs and expectations. The recommendation is for you to retain the services of another home inspection company so that you can get the services we do not offer, such as a Level 2 chimney assessment, mold, fungus and lead inspections/tests, cost estimates to repair items considered defective and review of common area elements. Thank you for considering us and we wish you the best in your new home. "

I should have done this review long ago. Tony is the best at inspecting houses and I used his services twice. I wish he had been available when the third house I bid on and purchased was inspected. He would have saved me a lot of trouble and headaches unlike the fraudulent House Masters. Please do yourself a favor and contract an engineer such as Tony. You will thank yourself for it down the line. I recommend their services 100%.

Tony is a PE (Professional Engineer) / Structural Engineer with enormous expertise about all things related to a home and he is NOT your "average Joe" home inspector. Tony is the BEST! Scheduling was a breeze - I was able to schedule the inspection over email. Tony is very prompt in email responses. He arrived on time and took the time (never rushed) and inspected every part of the house multiple times from multiple viewpoints to ensure he didn't miss anything. Tony is the poster child for going over the whole place with a fine-tooth comb. After the inspection, I received the home inspection report within 48 hours. The report was very detailed and easy to understand. There were many references in the report for standards & guidelines that need to be followed for any deficiences and also for anything safety related. Tony responded to all my follow-up questions about the report really quickly via email. On the surface level, Tony's service fee may feel like a little expensive but his services are worth every penny. Price is what you pay; value is what you get. If you want the BEST home inspector look farther than Tony!! P.S. I already referred Tony to my friend, who also hired him. I will be referring him to many more.

Tony was responsive, on-time, professional. He saved us $45,000 in repairs. We are very grateful for his expertise.
Description of Work: We were interested in purchasing a home built in the 1930's. The owners' disclosure was very spotty. We hired Tony to do the inspection. He uncovered serious problems with plumbing, the fireplace, electric, termite damage, and structural issues with the roof. There were high levels of radon as well.

Needed someone who could review an older home. Tony was wonderful. He pointed out the issues and explained why they were an issue. His report was detailed and on the mark. In fact, when he was there he told us that he was smelling gas. He found the gas leak and we call PSE&G who repaired the leak in less than an hour. Our hero.

Tony was very thorough and professional. The inspection was for an older home, and the fact that Tony is a structural engineer really added to his competence in this area. There were two prior inspections of the same home in the recent past, and neither had detected the issues brought forth by Tony. He pointed out some significant structural defects, which would have been a considerable strain on us to fix. Tony was really meticulous and his inspection report did a fantastic job of detailing all the issues. Ultimately we passed on this particular house, but are going to be sure to hire Tony's services for our next purchase.

I chose Shupenko Engineering Inc because they only performed engineering services and no remediation. There was no conflict of interest. Mr. Shupenko arrived on time at 9:00 AM on 4/22/15. The analysis took approximately 26 minutes. He walked around the house looking at the cracks in the concrete foundation. He then proceeded inside to review the cracks in the walls and he also asked to see the attic. He indicated that he would provide a detailed report of his analysis within three days. He said that his services would cost between $350.00 - $400.00, depending on how long he was there. Actually, I thought it would be less, since he was only there 26 minutes. However, he went through the house and looked at all the areas of concern. He put me at ease by indicating that I did not have structural damage. The winter of 2015 was very severe in the North East. A lot of the problems I was seeing (cracks in wall, 1/8 inch) were normal due to expansion and contraction due to ice damning. The openings would close once the weather got warmer....and they have. One of the main concerns that I had was water coming into my living room window during the winter freeze. No water comes in when it rains. It only came in during the winter during the freezing. I wanted to know why and a solution so as not to deal with this again. Mr. Shupenko indicated he would send me a bill and the report. I received the report on 5/1/15. It was very detailed with pictures, analysis, and recommendations/suggestions. I was very pleased with the report. Thanks to Mr. Shupenko for a good job!

We contacted Mr. Shupenko to inspect our homes foundation and floor system because a portion of the home's foundation and a portion of our dining room floor was inexplicably and rapidly sinking right be fore our very eyes. Also, there was a large surface depression on a portion of the grounds near the home. Although Mr. Shupenko could not come out immediately, he gave us the name and number of another engineer whom he thought might be available sooner than he would be. Because Mr. shupenko came so highly recommended by Angieslist members, we did not want to take a chance and we told him that we would wait until he was available. I am so glad that we waited for Mr. Shupenko. He came out two weeks later on June 19th and spent approximately two hours inspecting the property and speaking with my husband and I. He took pictures, asked many questions and before leaving provided us with helpful but serious comments about the condition of the foundation. The next day he called and then followed-up with an an e-mail advising us that our foundation posed severe problems and that we should begin to make other living arrangements. The e-mail briefly summarized the problems, the possible cause and a warning that we should vacate the premises until temporary supports could be designed and installed. We received a detailed report two days later. The news was ominous, but his analysis was fully supported. The report detailed the problem and the possible cause. He also recommended the approach we should take to begin resolving the situation. He indicated that his company did not have the expertise to perform certain work that needed to be done, but he provided three referrels. The report also recommended that we obtain an attorney due to the high potential cost to remedy the situation. I cannot say enough great things about Mr. Shupenko. The most important of which is he is a caring, very knowledgeable professional and one whom you can trust.

I would definitely recommend Tony to all! ,
Description of Work: We asked Tony to conduct a home inspection for a property we were thinking of buying. It was an old house and we wanted to be sure it was sound structurally. Tony showed up before time. He went through every nook and corner of the house in a very systematic way. Pointed out the structural strengths and defects and when visual inspection was not enough to ascertain the situation, told us what needs to be done to have an accurate assessment of the strength of the house. Since the heating system was very old and the owner of the house was not very sure when it was installed, Tony used his observation power, reasoning and experience to come up with the age of the furnace and the owner of the house agreed with his conclusion. The water heater was not vented properly and he made his point by showing us the melted plastic around the vent! He was amazing! And the report he sent! We had a tight schedule for getting our inspection done. We got his 37 page report with tons of pictures and diagrams explaining every point in detail, in less than 24 hours! Even our attorney mentioned he had never come across such a detailed report! The owner had declared there was no oil tank on the property. Tony observed that the spout of an old oil tank was still present and asked us to verify the town's record to make sure the tank was removed. Town had no record of removal! Tony saved us from getting into a big mess! We had to wait to get Tony to do the inspection but it was worth it!

I was considering purchasing the house in question and as it was an old home (built 1927) I wanted as thorough an inspection as possible by someone with structural engineering experience. Shupenko Engineering came recommended from Angie?s List. He arrived at the property early and did a thorough inspection of the home, garage, and grounds over roughly three hours, including radon testing. While on site he was friendly and professional, answered any questions that I asked, and was willing to perform additional checks if I asked and it was feasible to do so. Two days later I received a 31 page inspection report, including major concerns about the electrical, the deck, and the roof. (It is never good to see the phrase ?fire hazards? as it relates to the electrical panel.) The radon test arrived about a week after the initial inspection. He answered any email inquiries about the report patiently and promptly. Thanks to the inspection I was able to obtain concessions from the seller for repairs and ultimately bought the house. Before moving in I had the electrical repairs performed. The electricians confirmed all the issues on the inspection report and found even more issues that could only be detected when the panel was being removed for replacement. The peace of mind is priceless. I also had the deck repaired and the carpenter confirmed the inspection report issues as well. He costs more but you get your money?s worth. NOTE: The terminate inspection was performed by a separate vendor that Shupenko selected. It was an additional fee not included in his fee.

I am very pleased we brought Tony to our home. As a result of the extreme cold, snow and ice we had this winter, my home has had a significant amount of drywall cracking. We brought Tony in to inspect our roof to ensure no structural damage had occurred. Tony was prompt, professional and took the time to answer all of our questions. I would highly recommend his services.

Tony was fantastic. Prompt, professional, knowledgeable and extremely thorough. The property he inspected had 3 units and the entire inspection lasted almost 5 hours! He encouraged questions from us and answered anything that we had concerns about. Even the seller's realtor was asking what company he worked for because he was so thorough. The inspection report was so detailed and totaled almost 40 pages, and he had this to us within 2 business days. I am so glad that we spent the extra money in hiring Mr. Shupenko it is nerve wracking enough buying home but an old home such as this one (turn of the century) had us stressed out. But we feel a lot better going into this transaction with the wealth of knowledge this inspection uncovered!

We had a home inspection at a house we were considering buying, and inspector was concerned about wall bowing and chimney leaning on inside of house. The homeowner had a Mason come and say the home just needed patching. So now it was time for the expert opinion. I called several home inspectors, and all seemed nice and responded but Tony not only tried to discuss the problem over the phone, but also made himself available with literally a 2 hour notice. Also, he was available via text message which makes organizing SO much easier. (But he probably doesn't want his phone flooded with texts, so I'd recommend to try calling first!) Once there, Tony did his thing with his old school tool and gathered us all for the outcome. He carefully explained what was and was not an issue (and eased our minds) and though he couldn't give exact quotes, he let us know what type of project we'd be getting into. He also is careful not to be contracted for the work because then his opinion would be tainted for 'Trying to fish for work' so to speak. We had many questions, and he was so understanding. Also when trying to explain to current owners what type of work we'd be looking for, Tony was quick with an analogy to help me explain myself! (He loves analogies!) Overall, Tony was great and if I was building a house or in any capacity would use him again! There's a reason why there's so many reviews here, so if possible, hold out for Tony because he's worth it!
Description of Work: Inspect the foundation of a home and chimney to confirm it is stable, when having given diverse opinions from original Home Inspector and Mason. Cost was based on per hour and similar to others.

I will definitely use Tony for my full inspection either on this house or another if this one does not pan out.
Description of Work: I needed a structural engineer to evaluate a house I wanted to purchase. The house was sagging in the middle and before putting an offer on the house I wanted to be sure that it wasn't a hopeless cause and that it could be remedied. I called Tony and made an appointment. He was on time and very thorough. I received the report by email the same day and I was able to use his findings to come up with an appropriate offer.

We are first time home buyers and the home we were interested in buying was a 1950s ranch from the original owners. It was an outdated home (style-wise), but we loved the layout and saw great potential. We knew we needed a very knowledgeable and thorough home inspector who is willing to explain what he finds in detail to us (we have a lot to learn). We found Tony Shupenko on Angie's List and was impressed with his background in structural engineering and very good reviews. On inspection day, we arrived to the house to find Tony already there. Tony was VERY thorough and was professional at every step. His thoroughness was evident immediately as he went up onto the roof and into crawl spaces looking for potential issues (and boy did he find them). He was also incredibly knowledgeable. He was off the next day (July 4th) and said we would have the report the next day--I believe we received the report early that next day. He provided an amazingly thorough report, with color pictures and descriptions. We had radon testing done and when he went back to pick up the canisters, he tried to find access to another crawlspace he suspected was there when he was writing up the report and realized he didn't get to inspect it. He wrote us a follow up letter to let us know he was unable to access it and wanted to advise us on the potential problems that could be there. Based on his assessment of the home and discovery of some MAJOR structural damage, it was more than what we had wanted to take on. We had decided to "dodge the bullet" and back out of the sale. We would definitely recommend Tony to anyone interested in buying a home. We plan to call him again to inspect our next potential home. We definitely think his quality of work is well worth the price and our peace of mind in the home we buy.

Tony was prompt and professional from start to finish; he returned my phone call immediately and explained his background and services completely. He arrived early for our appointment, spent the whole session actively looking in all the nooks and crannies of my old house, and alerted me to urgent issues. He answered all my questions honestly and without condescension (not all my questions were very smart). My husband and I knew that we had issues to resolve with our house before we put it up for sale, but we were ignorant of some critical concerns (live wire, gas leak) and had exaggerated others in our own assessment (turns out the house isn't falling over, it's just old and out of level) - that alone was worth the money and time spent with Shupenko Engineering.

Mr. Shupenko VERY thoroughly inspected a home we wanted to buy. Because we were intertested in buying an older home, his background in structural enginieering was a major plus for us. He was professional at every step. He provided an amazingly thorough report, with color pictures and descriptions, extremely quickly--I believe the very day after he inspected the home. He was also incredibly knowledgable. He wouldn't give us an "off the record" state of the house, but he did answer, in detail, the questions we had about what results meant. (We were going from a 4th floor apartment to a home and I had questions about radon, which he explained it to me when I called him about the results for example.) I would definitely recommend him to inspect any home you are interested in buying. I plan to call him just to periodically inspect whatever home I live in! I think his quality of work is well worth the price --and the peace of mind :)
