Thomas Candella did a great job identifying the source of the mold issue, managing and remediating the mold - this was my first experience with mold and Tom was very patient with all my questions. He was professional at all times - from the first call to Robert Kye, the owner to the last visit, putting up the drywall, painting and providing pictures for submission to the insurance - I highly recommend Certified Mold Removal, Inc for all your mold issues. Mold in the home is not healthy.

Great! The team was very thorough and all work was completed in a timely manner. When we still had an odor issue a week later (after the job was done and paid for), they returned and set up equipment to purge the air for days, and now the odor (and the mold!) is all gone.

They did a good job with the mold removal as far as I know. I was not too happy with the drywall they replaced after the remediation was done. It was not even close to a quality job on that.

Peter inspected and did the tests. He seemed knowledgeable and answered questions easily, told me it was likely stachybotrys (the black mold, the bad one). Does he tell everyone that? I was told I would receive an email but got phone call instead- when I was upset about the $6,800 proposal for remediation (drywall removal, hepa air filtration, wall sealing due to "high mold content in air and surface") Robert blamed my home inspector and talked excessively about what I could have done for prevention of my situation. It was belittling. He also said "what, did you think it would cost $1,000?" How rude! Who would say such a thing? I am extrely suspicious of his "findings." I regret not checking here first. Robert preys on consumer fear and the reviews I'm reading here ring true to my experience. I asked for the findings and the breakdown of costs via email; I will update my report here.
Description of Work: Saw mold on basement wall, called them for testing. Told me it would be $250 or more depending what I needed when they saw it. They charged $1300 total for wall sample, indoor air quality, and outdoor sample (for control group.)

Response from Certified Mold Removal Inc.
I am terribly sorry if you were unhappy with the laboratory test results for the bank foreclosure that you purchased but the report did show heavy Stachybotrys type mold growing on the basement sheetrock as well as in the air in the basement. The Inspector was Eric, not Peter "there has never been an inspector named Peter who has ever worked for our company”. If you recall Eric told you that we would call you to go over the findings and follow that up with a copy of the lab results, an explanation of the findings, and a written estimate for the work. You did receive all of that as 5 years later I just pulled your file and am looking at it now. You see we take our job very seriously and would never bad mouth anyone or speak down to any client. If you recall you told us how unhappy you were that your home inspector did not tell you that you had this severe mold problem in the home you were buying. It was not us badmouthing him! We don't even know this person. We simply agreed with you that such an obvious mold problem should have been in your home inspectors report! Additionally, no one would ever make such a silly comment such as the one you stated about the expected price being $1,000 to tear out an entire basement and perform mold remediation services throughout. My hope is that you ended up consulting with another qualified mold testing expert to confirm just how bad your basement was. I can only assume that you eventually had the problem rectified and would simply ask that if you write a review about another company in the future that you do some legwork first before jumping to any conclusions and correctly recall what was stated.

Upon research, we were told that the fees for samples to be tested by a lab are approximately $20.00 per sample. What thought process does a business have to charge a consumer $350.00? As a result, this company was not even considered to do the remediation. Their estimate to do the remediation was equally overpriced. They are shameless and do business without conscience.
Description of Work: This company was called to come to a residence for a mold remediation in a basement. It was explained that there would be several samples taken from the air and surfaces to assess the extent of the cleanup. I was told the fee could be several hundred dollars for the lab testing and a $250.00 fee for the inspection. A total of eight samples were taken and sent to a lab for analysis; 4 swab samples and 4 air samples. The fee that was charged was $350.00 per sample for a total of $2,800.00, and a grand total of $3,050.00 for the testing alone. The amount charged for the lab testing was completely unethical and exorbitant. This company took advantage of an absentee owner who was hospitalized when the testing was done. The owner of the company was outraged, yelling at me over the phone when questioned about the fees. He is dishonest, unprofessional and disrespectful in his business practice.

Response from Certified Mold Removal Inc.
He hired us to perform a mold inspection and testing at his home on May 22, 2013. I spoke with him over the phone first and explained to him that the cost for the inspection was $250.00 and that mold testing fees were $350.00 per sample. The appointment was scheduled for between 12:00pm and 3:00pm on the 22nd. When I arrived at 3:20pm he began yelling at me that I was late, and after diffusing the situation he invited me into his home to perform the inspection. He complained that he had two problems, mold in his attic and mold in his crawl space. After performing a detailed inspection, I then recommended the appropriate sampling for the situation. A physical sample of the attic sheathing and under the crawl space ceiling rafters. Additionally, an air sample to be taken in the attic, one in the living quarters of the home, another in the crawl space and an outdoor control to use as a balance. After much discussion about the purpose of each test as well as the cost, they told me to not perform the outdoor sample but to proceed with the remainder of the samples. I then told him that I would call him in approximately one week with the results. When I called him five days later, I explained to him that we had some very good news. The crawl space tested negative for the physical presence of mold and the air was also normal as well throughout the remainder of the home. I went on to explain to him the 13 step protocol which needed to take place to remove the physical mold contamination from the attic of his home. This protocol included 1. Removing and disposing of all contaminated insulation throughout the attic, 2. HEPA vacuuming all attic surfaces, 3. Cleaning all attic surfaces with a heavy duty detergent, 4. Re-HEPA vacuuming all surfaces, 5. Heavily wetting all attic ceiling surfaces with an EPA registered fungicide, 6. Encapsulating all attic ceiling surfaces with a specialized anti-microbial sealant to prevent the mold from returning. Then we would need to remove and dispose of the contaminated section of sheetrocked wall in the finished side of the attic by the window., HEPA vacuum all newly exposed services, clean all newly exposed surfaces with a heavy duty detergent, Re-HEPA vacuum all services, heavily we all newly exposed surfaces with an EPA registered fungicide, encapsulate all surfaces with a specialized anti-microbial sealant to prevent the mold from returning. Then re-sheetrock, tape, spackle, sand and paint. Now with all due respect to him, NO ONE…could perform the work to these specifications for the cost of $950.00 My cost alone to perform this service would be near $2,000.00 and my quote to perform this work was only $3,000.00 not $5,000.00. the cost of the inspection, testing and diagnosis has nothing to do with the cost of remediation. I am assuming that he is combining the cost of the two services. With all of this said, I suggest that he hire an IEP (independent environmental professional) to verify the work that he states was done in his home to assure that it was performed correctly and completely. My suspicion is that the above protocol was not followed and mold still exists in his home. Having stated the facts, there is no reason any refund should be provided to him as we performed the services that he hired us to do precisely as requested.

This business should be called "Absolutely Scam You". Phil charged $250 for the inspection and $350 for each mold test sample. He took 8 samples, for fees adding up to $2800. We have since learned of a reputable lab that charges $25 to process a sample. That makes for a pretty extraordinary profit. The customer - a senior citizen - was led to believe Phil would return in a week or two with a readout of the test results. But when it was made clear to Phil that relatives of the customer would be present at the readout, suddenly he said he wasn't going to come back but only give a readout over the phone. That's a pretty slim return for $3050 in fees. We have since learned from a reputable mold business that it takes samples, sends them to a lab, gives the lab report to the customer and prepares a remediation plan that can be taken out for bid, all for $395. Phil offered no lab report and no remediation plan - and charged an extraordinary amount of money to not do any of that. Sensing something wasn't right and, BTW, seeing (alas, too late) the poor feedback on Angie's List for this business, relatives advised the customer to seek other advice re: the mold. A second inspection was made - except this contractor performs inspections for free. When this new contractor learned what happened with Phil, he went ballistic and let the customer - and Phil - know in straight language that Phil was ripping-off a senior citizen. In hindsight, it is hard to argue with that assessment. Finally, making certain a belief that Providence does at times intervene to help stop the truly egregious, ABC News just the other day ran a TV special on scams in the mold inspection business. You can see Phil at http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2013/05/4-tips-to-protect-yourself-from-mold-inspection/ as he beats a hasty retreat rather than answer questions about an assessment and recommendation he made at a house that had no mold. In this case, the undercover team used outside experts to verify no mold was present, yet Phil's $1100+ testing regimen - surprise! - did find mold, for which he recommended a $5500 remediation. ABC News captures on camera what this customer experienced live and in person: a rip-off.

Not well, $350.00 per mold test. Told us we needed at least 3, then charged $225.00 for an estimate
Description of Work: Made us believe that we needed mold testing to prove that we had mold so it would be paid for by the flood insurance. Duh!!!! Sure we had mold like everyone else in NJ that had floodwater in their house. Should have known that this company was a scam when he charged $225.00 for the estimate. The estimate was $11,700 to remove the wet insulation and to remediate the mold in our crawl space. What a rip off.

Absolutely Spotless sub contracts everything. Phil, the man in charge is rude and unpleasant. We never got the results of the airlift swabs and yet they charged us for it. They came in and assessed the situation and then they did the work. They ripped out all the paneling. They left a real mess - they had pulled wood out of the cinderblocks and left pieces behind. Then they painted over it! The job wasn't finished properly. I had to get a carpenter in to sort it out. The channel isn't properly attached to the house under the windows. All the water from the side of the house and the driveway is coming in the basement and the mold is dreadful.
Description of Work: Absolutely Spotless came in and tested with airlift swabs and visually for mold. They removed and disposed of all contaminated sheetrock and paneling. They manually cleaned and sanitised all exposed beams and rafters. They dug a channel down the side of the house and lined it with plastic.

They sent their inspector, Carl to my house who did the inspection. I thought it was quite thorough at the time. He also did an air lift swab, or an air quality test. I was told I would received those results by email the following week. Instead, Phil, the owner called me with the results. He gave me a quote of $1800 for the remediation. There were no details about the inspection Carl did as to where the mold was located, type of mold, etc. The report that I received was for an indoor air sample. No outdoor control sample was taken. Ergo, there is no basis for comparison that any mold in my house is high. This report is un-useable.

We set up a date and they came out. The guy walked around with me. He looked at everything, and I kept reiterating that we needed a written report. I paid him $120 plus tax. The guy left and said that we should hear from him by the end of the week. We didn't hear from them, so we called and spoke to Philip. We never got an estimate. They wanted an additional $350 for a written estimate, even though they had never indicated that it would cost more. Their website advertises a free estimate, but we didn't know that originally. This guy just blew the whole thing off.
Description of Work: We wanted to get a written estimate for mold remediation from them.
